In the end it had been inevitable… L'lhynd new that at some point he needed to leave his tiny, over-crowded hut. For all the boxes of fabric clippings and drawers of different colored threads, the matorian couldn't find the colors to match. He couldn't decide if it was more or less lucky that he was missing both the fabric and the thread. The garment was nothing fancy, the mending was minimal… but L'lhynd had mistakenly said he could have it ready by tomorrow. Work was not steady, and it certainly wasn't plenty. He sighed as he desperately went through his drawers again, this time shutting them harder than necessary. He eyed his food stocks before he began to dress, growing more and more annoyed at the fact he had to go to the marketplace today. The more he thought about it, the less he wanted to do it. He piled on his layers and grabbed his satchel but when he got to his door he just stood there. Maybe he could just run out tomorrow morning… and do everything early? Ah… but what if they were out of the color he needed it? But it wasn't as if it was a very rare color in these parts… he groaned and leaned his head against the door, shutting his eyes. He didn't want to go outside today.

Eventually he'd forced himself out. Life, he'd come to realize, was about doing a great number of things you simply didn't want to do. Events had come and gone in the past where he'd almost rather be dead than actually doing what needed to be done… and he'd gotten through them. He told himself over and over that later he could sleep, later he wouldn't leave his home for a week at least. Maybe two.

He'd pulled his hood up once he'd gotten closer to the marketplace, the walk was pleasantly sparse in company. Even from a distance he could see that the same could not be said of the marketplace. He could hear it from here… loud. Vendors and customers alike shouting out, trying to find what they needed. Maybe some yelling after any earthlings with sticky fingers… small children screaming both in joy and whatever frustrations their undeveloped mind had come up with. L'lhynd didn't like children very much… but he did relate to them a little, he thought. He was sure a number of the cries he heard from young earthlings were caused from the very same reason he was feeling uneasy: they simply didn't want to be here.

He avoided the eyes of others when he finally got into the thick of earthlings milling about, shopping for what they needed and often things they didn't need at all. He didn't like catching others watching him, didn't like the way he was sometimes stared at. He had yet to realize it was, in all likelihood, the amount of clothing he had on even though it was very hot and very humid. L'lhynd had long grown used to this sort of weather. He slid through the crowds with relative ease, used to dodging the fast walkers and slipping past earthlings who walked with a slowness that almost killed him when he was trapped behind them. The faster he got to the vendor he needed the faster he could buy what he needed and the faster he could go home… Though he needed to stop for a few other things as well. Maybe his food would last though… maybe he could skip doing that…

Kani had been sent to the market yet again. She absolutely hated going, but it was her duty to her family to go and pick up what they all needed. It was a muggy sort of day and it seemed that her silky skirt and top had decided to stick to her today. An annoyance to say the least, especially since others would see just how bad her outfit was sticking if they paid any attention to her. She just wanted to be back inside her hut reading a book or studying more magic, but that wasn't allowed today. Her father had specifically asked her to go to the market to get new thread so she could fix Arthanon's clothing. He asked this, thinking she knew how to do such a thing. While she was good at quite a few things, sewing was definitely not one of those things. She was terrible at it, but her father was too busy with work to do it himself. She would just have to do her best and hope it was enough. Wandering over to the stall where she assumed sewing supplies would be, Kani was overwhelmed with all the different fabrics and items. Which one was it? Did it matter what she got? Why was there so much cloth??

"Maybe someone around here will know," she muttered to herself, glancing around in hopes of finding someone to ask.

L'lhynd thought it would be nice when his errands were all finished and he had something to work on. Sewing was the best medicine for his nerves, he'd found. Not that the projects he had waiting for him were much of a challenge… which was pretty annoying. It's because he needed to get better, needed to set out on his journey. The more he knew meant the more he could do… and the more he could do meant the more people would come to him. Well, if he could keep up the appearance of a helpful and kind tailor. Right now he was feeling like that probably wouldn't ever happen, mostly because he felt like smacking someone with his open palm if they bumped into him even accidentally.

"Trys, I didn't think I'd see your stall for a long time yet." L'lhynd had thought the matorian had been traveling, looking for rarer clothes and fabrics to sell. He'd seen the matorian female in the front of the booth but he'd ignored that fact that she might have been in the middle of being helped. She looked about as lost as he felt inside. "But it's good that you're back. Rhoda and Lintik's wares get shoddier and shoddier each week." He normally would have managed a laugh here, but he just couldn't muster it today.

L'lhynd's eyes cut to the matorian female again. Around his age, maybe. Dressed in the matorian fashion… which was to say, scantily. it wasn't bad or anything, very common here. He still felt uncomfortable as his eyes climbed up the length of her legs. They focused more on the skirt sticking to them and instantly a few fixes came to mind. It didn't matter, it wasn't like his clothes were sticking to him. He looked back to the vendor, pushing a smile onto his face. "I'll have a quarter bolt of the white wine." It was neither white or reminded L'lhynd of wine, so he didn't really know why someone had bothered naming it as such. What he did know was that he hadn't seen it in Rhoda or Lintik's stocks in some time. Maybe today wouldn't be so bad.

"And a quarter of the dry sage, yes the lighter one." That was when he spied the shades of fabrics in rich plum hues. He scowled at them… a color Zuberi wore often and wore well. He cleared his throat. "You must have been visiting Oba, am I right Trys?" There were several shades more prone to being found in Oban territories than here in Matori. L'lhynd didn't know why he was even bothering asking about it. He didn't care. He didn't.

He tore his eyes away from the pretty shades of purple and back to the matorian girl, who still looked amazingly confused. L'lhynd's stomach gave a little growl and again he was reminded he needed to go shopping for sustenance … but more work would benefit that, wouldn't it? "You look like you don't know what you're doing." He'd just stated it outright, not even a smile gracing his features as he spoke. He probably could have put that in a better way, but the appearance of the shades Zuberi was most fond of had thrown him. It'd been a long time since he'd thought of the Oban misery.

"Whatever gave you that idea?" Kani snapped, instantly pausing as she realized just how short she had been with the Matori boy before her. Oh if her father was here he would scold her so badly for being rude to another Matori. It had really just slipped out of her though. Normally she was completely in control of how she acted and never snapped at anyone, but dealing with all the errands constantly and her father making her learn how to sew and such to fix their clothes had been incredibly annoying. Every time she looked at the different cloths it just frustrated her. There were just so many! How did anyone know what was the right one to get? Obviously people did or they wouldn't have clothing made out of different material. Maybe the Matori boy knew what to get for it?

"Sorry about that. It has been a very stressful day. Though that is still no excuse for my rude behavior," she sighed softly, turning more fully to speak to the Matori in front of her. He was around her age, though not in typical Matori garb. His clothes were very heavy and layered, something she'd never expect from one of their own. Perhaps he had lived somewhere previously that required such clothing. She could never be sure about it. It seemed incredibly uncomfortable to say the least, but the guy before her didn't seemed bothered by it at all.

"You are correct in assuming I don't know what I'm doing. My father simply sent me to get cloth to fix and make clothing for my brother. How exactly I'm supposed to do that is beyond me. I've never really done anything like that before." But she would try her hardest to do it somehow in order to help her father and brother. That was her job and she had to succeed at it.

The short Matorian would have raised one eyebrow in an attempt at skepticism but he knew it wouldn't do him any good. He just watched her calmly for a moment before offering a sympathetic smile and turning away, back to what he was doing. He watched as Trys cut the fabric he had requested, his eyes doing another sweep of the colors. "I'll have thread matching as close as possible, Trys." He had trust in the merchant to get him what he needed, he found the man was exceptionally honest.

L'lhynd looked over slowly as the female began speaking to him. Starting out with an apology was exactly what he'd been expecting, though he was no less glad. An annoyed potential customer could hardly be called such… but one eager for help? Very much so. He nodded along at her words, though in truth he was only half listening. He got the basics though, she was supposed to mend some clothing but had never done so before. "Well first of all, you should consider the costs of what you're looking to spend. And the material of what you're mending. You wouldn't patch a wool garment with silk." And if someone did that because they could? Well they were wrong, plain and simple.

"And if you've never actually sewn before it's probably best to find a tailor." He finished paying Trys before turning fully toward her and holding out his hand, working a smile onto his face. "I'm L'lhynd, conveniently a tailor."

"Kani. Definitely not a tailor," she chuckled, shaking his hand gently. "Would you be willing to give me some pointers perhaps? I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to afford your services." It probably wasn't good business to state that outright, but she wanted to be honest with him. While her father worked constantly, they still weren't exactly making much money. It was hard to manage everything, which is why they had to patch up her brother's clothes in the first place. They couldn't afford to just outright buy new clothing, so now she had to learn how to tailor. That wasn't going too well.

"I'm completely lost when it comes to this sort of thing." She hoped she wasn't bothering the poor guy. He never asked to get roped into helping her or anything. Perhaps she would just try to figure it out on her own so he could go about his business.
