Jake recognized the knight from a previous battle, and decided to help.
It was only fair.
At least it wasn't another grotesque shadow creature this time, and Jake had no problem swinging his sword at it... without shuddering. Now that he noticed, the other knight seemed to still be an apprentice. Wasn't a creature like this a little out of her league?

Kari knew she was out of her league, but she still felt compelled to fight. "Even if I am out of my league, a good knight will never retreat from a battle. If there's an enemy before me, leaving it be will only bring more harm", Kari called as she laid into it with an attack her fellow knight would probably find familiar. The Siren hissed as Kari's attack landed on a weak spot on her head, causing a bright spark of green. Her reply earned a smirk. Spoken just like a real knight.
"I suppose that's true."
He was surprised to see her mimic his attack, but it was a pleasant surprise. The battle seemed to be going smoothly. And he supposed even though there were many shadows, there were just as many knights. Strength in numbers.
He attacked the shadow siren again. True, part of her did it because it was the right thing to do... but a bigger part of her did it because she wanted to change. She'd always been overly cautious, but that had just lead to a life of low risk and missed opportunities. More than anything, she wanted to prove to herself that she could take a risk and come out on top. Kari was surprised to see that at the same time that she managed a glancing blow against the creature, the knight who'd aided her had managed to land a critical blow. They'd beaten the odds, and Kari felt great. Kari slowly walked over to the fallen Siren, tired but happy, and surveyed the remains... A soft smile crossed her face as she spied a tiny black paper hidden within its mouth. Fishing the paper out, she gave a respectful nod to her ally. "Thank you for your assistance, I probably wouldn't have come anywhere close to beating the enemy without your aid."
