Good practice,’ they had said. ‘You might even learn something.

Malikai fidgeted, shifting his weight uncertainly from foot to ‘foot’ and back, passing his blade from hand to hand before exhaling firmly, frowning, and setting her away. Loyal as she was, the task ahead was not one for the Lady. His imprinted weapon was no child’s toy, after all, and from what little he did know of the arrangement before him, the boy he would be working with was no master.

Fit for even you, pumpkin spice,’ his friend had teased. ‘If you’re to teach him a trick or two, he can’t yet know much.

Malik pursed his lips and stretched his arms behind his head, shifting and loosening stiff, over-worked muscles there out before moving off to the side, towards a rack of blades. He removed his primary weapon belt, where he carried his imprinted blade, and reached instead for one of the practice swords. Though he still practiced with them often enough in training, the smaller ones felt oddly light, now, with him being used to pushing on the heavier end of things, and he moved through several training sets with it, batting up against a mechanical dummy to get a feel for the balance of the lighter weapon.

What he did know — according to the officer who had instructed him, at least — was that he was to meet with a boy, some four to six years younger, Malik was not precisely sure, who was a novice to weapons and in need of a practical training hand. Though Malik was far from considering himself an expert, he had now at least seven years of training under his belt and was a solid enough shot at it that he wasn’t particularly concerned.

He just hoped that he did not disappoint.

It took a good fifteen minutes before he finally managed to convince his father not to come. He said it was in order to make sure he got there safely and to thank the Orderite who would be training him. Alionse was quick to counter his father by stating he only was interested in coming so he could see him get knocked down again. His father denied it while laughing heartily, proving Alionse's point. So in the end, after his father finally stopped laughing enough to breath, he agreed to let Alionse go alone. He was grateful, especially since his father hadn't known if it would just be Alionse or if there would be others there as well. It would be sort of embarrassing if his father came with him. Still, he wasn't sure how he felt about others being there. People, while he could deal with them, always made him feel awkward until he got to know them, and sometimes even after that.

He pushed thoughts of that away. Awkward or not, he wouldn't let anything or anyone stop him from becoming a warrior. For him, it was more than wanting to be a warrior, it was a need. He knew his father probably didn't understand that, but he didn't have to. He put those thoughts firmly away as he reached the designated spot. He could hear the bang of metal and as he got closer he saw a man with light orange hair and soft green skin, swinging a sword at a mechanical dummy.

Alionse didn't hurry forward. Instead he stood back and watched instead. Observing the man as he fought, Alionse couldn't help a wave of excitement go through him. All of a sudden everything seemed real. Before, he felt like he was struggling to makes his wish materialize, like it was just a child's fantasy, but this, right here, was solid proof. He had a teacher, a real teacher. Suddenly Alionse was moving. He walked quickly towards the man, but stayed just outside of his range, not wanting to interrupt him. Closer, he seemed younger than Alionse expected, but as long as the man could teach him to fight, then he didn't care.

Just loud enough to be heard, Alionse called out. "Hello."

A trip to Eowyn proved too strenuous for the Orderites and their Khehora companion, and they were so incredibly happy to be back on Serenian sands. A few Kiandri and even a Firani later, they found their way back to Serenia within a few days. Odette was the only one with the passion to continue on. Alduin and Evesi were tired and weak.

The sun beat down on the three from overhead as they made their way into the Valley of Andrah. The light breeze blew between them all as they walked down the beaten path towards the forests of Aurinead. That was where they originally wanted to go, anyway. That was, until Odette noticed a couple of Orderites in the distance. With squinted eyes, she realized she recognized the larger of the two. Maybe from her classes in the Citadel? Perhaps from walking through the streets of Ashen City? Either way, she felt as though she had at least seen the boy before.

Nevertheless, the three continued on towards the others. "I wonder what those two are doing? Training, maybe?" she asked the others.

Evesi gazed on towards the two Orderites. "Doesn't look like much of anything, Dette. I'm really rather tired. Let the two be."

Odette shook her head in response to her friend's wishes. She loved the aspect of training, of becoming better, of increasing her skills. However, her group would have to pass the other Orderites at some point if they wished to get to their desired destination.

As they continued to near the two, Odette smirked. Finally, they were within hearing distance and Odette took it upon herself to "Hey there!" she called out to them. "What're you two doing?" she continued.

"Odette, no!" Evesi called in a hushed, yet snappy tone, followed by a sigh of disappointment.

Alduin's feet drug heavily along the ground, and with a shake of his head and quiet tongue, he followed behind the two Orderites in hopes that they wouldn't cause any other trouble for him or themselves.

Malikai was not always the most observant of persons, particularly when he was focusing. He did focus well, and once on that track, he tended not to be aware of much outside of that. So it was that, as he practiced himself, he lost some degree of touch with everything else going on about him, and it wasn’t until a voice cut into his routine that he startled, jerking out of it and stumbling to an abrupt stop. Flush-faced, but half from abashment at having not even noticed his ‘trainee’s arrival, Malikai dipped into a shallow bow.

“Evenin’,” he greeted, offering up a sheepish grin as he did so and lowering his blade to run a spare hand through the mop of his hair. “I, ah…well.” He cleared his throat and stepped over towards the weapon rack, setting his practice sword aside for the moment at least, and dusting off his hands on a towel before approaching the other and holding out a hand. “‘Pologies for not seein’ you right off the swing. I’m Malikai, an’ they haven’t told me a great lot about you, but…I take it you’re lookin’ to learn to use a blade? Did you…” He eyed the other, “…bring one o’ your own or will you be needin’ one o’ ours? We got plenty for trainin’ with, obviously, an’…”

Malikai got some ways into his introductions, but not fully so when another voice interrupted. An uncertain flush climbed towards his eartips as he turned and squinted, eyeing the new, unexpected company. Had they told two different persons to come train with him but not warned him? Or was this girl in the wrong location? Or…?

Malikai’s thoughts quickly trailed off, distracted by a good many of other things not at all related to what he ought to have been dwelling on. Like by the goddess she was pretty, and had a nice gait to her, clearly at least somewhat versed in fighting. Fit.

Beautiful.

By the time she was in proper speaking distance of him, Malikai had largely forgotten what his name was, let alone where events were supposed to be heading or what she had asked of him. “Er…” he said aloud, intelligently. “Yeah. You look…sunshine. Beautiful. Like…” He cleared his throat, shaking his head and flushing hotter. “Tha’ is. Malikai. I’m Malikai, are you s’posed t’ be here…? Not tha’ y’ can’t be, m’sure you can if you…” His eyes flicked down her, and then darted away, abashed, “…wanna…ah.” His attention landed on Alionse, and immediately looked guilty. “Sorry. This is, ah…this is……I dunno his name either.”

When the trainer when into his introduction he seemed hesitant and unsure of himself. Maybe it should made it wary, butt was clear from his practice that he could fight. If he could fight than he could teach, hopefully. All the anxiousness did was confirm that the Orderite fighter was just as nervous as him. It relaxed Alionse. Maybe there wasn’t a reason to be nervous after all. Then the Orderite brought up swords. Alionse’s eyes brightened. His father hadn’t given him a sword, insisting the knife was good enough. Alionse had tried to point out that going to sword practice meant having a sword was necessary. So the sight of the practice sword sent a thrill of excitement. He couldn’t want to have one in his hand.

He was just about to say he definitely would like to use one of the practice swords when a voice cut in. He turned away from the instructor to see two Orderite girls and what looked like a dragon, though he was pretty sure it was a Khehora now. He felt sort of proud of himself for being able to know the difference now. His turned his green eyes back to the girls, one short with long pink hair, though darker than his own, and the other even shorter with long plantium blond hair and a tired look on her face. Alionse wondered if they too were here from training, but by the surprised look on his instructor’s face he guessed probably not.

Scratch that. His instructor – Malikal – wasn’t just surprised it seemed. He seemed completely stunned by the girls presence. His fumbling words and the way he called her sunshine and beautiful. He didn’t understand it. The girls were definitely pretty, but he was … Malikai turned to him with a guilty look just as the word came to the tip of his tongue.

“Awkward,” he said softly with a nod.

“I’m Alionse Malyrist,” he said to his instruction and turned to the girls to include them as well in his introduction, giving them a nod of greeting before turning back to Malikai. “And yes, I do need a sword,” he said, answering the previous question before the girl’s arrival.

As Odette approached, all she could do was give the two boys a look of curiosity. A raised brow indicated that the girl wasn't sure what to make of this blubbering Orderite, and the other just seemed curious. Her raised brow gave way to a smirk at the boys nervousness and...compliment? With a chuckle, she spoke. "Well, it's nice to meet you two. I'm Odette, this is Evesi and the Khehora's name is Alduin." she stated as the other two began to creep closer. She gestured to both the other Orderite and the Khehora as they came to a halt.

Evesi just gave a smile and quick nod of the head, holding tight her staff. Alduin just bowed his head and looked about the valley's floor to be completely certain the three were out of any danger. "Odette, we must be getting back soon." Alduin's voice rang.

Odette rolled her eyes and turned to face him as she pushed her bangs out of her eyes. "Alduin, please. We're completely safe."

"Dette, you can never be too certain." Evesi finally spoke, as softly as she could.

Odette gave a blank stare at her companion and sighed. She then turned around quickly, still full of energy, her chest puffed out and her bangs flowing back into her face due to the wind. "I'd love it if I could train with you guys." she said, pulling her small, circular blade from it's station at her side. With a quick flick of her wrist, the blade doubled in size as it spun around. She then held it up on her shoulder and gave the two boys yet another smirk, waiting for their response.

“Yes, it’s…great.” Malikai’s eyes moved from the girl over to — goddess — the largest bonded khehora he had ever seen. Was that natural? And which of them was it bonded to? “Odette. Evesi. Al—ah, Alduin.” He nodded, attention moving from their company, back to Alionse. “Right, well ah…I don’ see why not, save for tha’ he’s just learnin’. But ‘m sure we wouldn’ hurt for the company?”

Malik moved, stepping back from the girls a bit and over to the weapons rack where he had initially intended to fetch Alionse a blade. Truthfully, it’d be better if he tested several, but they were just practice blades, and Malik supposed they had time to so — after sparing a glance again in the boy’s direction to guess roughly based on size what a suitable starting weight would be — he selected one, hefting it and testing the balance himself in his grip. Satisfied, he handed it over.

“Take a swing or two, aye? See if you c’n heft it proper and get a feel for it. If it’s too heavy for y’…” Malik’s gaze flit back to the rack. “We c’n try somethin’ narrower, yeah? But give it a shot, an’ ah…” When he looked back towards the girl — Odette — the heat returned to his cheeks and he rubbed at the back of his neck, but managed this time at least not to completely trip over his words. “Iffin’ it was a spar you were lookin’ for…we could ‘ave a go in a pinch? M’ not familiar with ah…” He eyed her weapon, “…those. But if y—”

A deep, booming roll of thunder sounded from the east, and Malikai glanced up, eyeing the building roil of clouds there and frowning as a gust of wind skittered across the training grounds. If it stormed, that would make things more complicated.

Ali looked at the girl, the one called Odette. She wanted to train too. He wondered just how good she was, then again, if she was wearing a blade on her hip then that meant she was good. It was...sort of frustrating to be at the bottom, but he was also curious. Her blade just changed. He stared at it and suddenly was very excited to see just what she could do. None of that showed on his face, instead he nodded in agreement with Malikai.

"I don't mind if you stay," he said, and then his attention was completely distracted when Malikai came back and handed him a sword. Finally! A sword. He held it in his hand. It was...heavier than he had imagined it to be, but not too hard to lift...at least he hoped so. He swung it, making a slicing sound in the air that brought a smile to his lips. He did it again. The sword was heavy, maybe a little too heavy for him, but he wasn't going to say so. He figured if it was a bit heavy then it would just help him grow some muscle, enough muscle to maybe one day fight a dragon on his own and actually win.

The thought made him all the more determined to keep the sword he had. "I'm-" His words were cut off by the sound of thunder. He frowned and looked to the sky, worried. He didn't want his first sword-fighting lesson to be canceled, due to a storm. He gave Malikai a worried look.

"We're still going to practice?" A soft plead in his voice.
