Another cryptic message, another meeting place, and Keke was so excited about the prospect of seeing his interesting friend again that he decided he couldn't wait and came very early to their meeting place.

Realizing just how early he was, Keke had tried to wait productively. By now, he had done all of his patience exercizes and waiting chores: he had dug out a firepit – with some magic to make sure it was a good firepit. He had collected some wood and carefully – with some messups – built a good fire setup. He had found some traded cloth and had set some of it around the fire for an extra comfortable place to sleep that wasn't dirt or hard stone. He'd smoothed them out and sat there, admiring them, for a few hours. Now all that remained was to actually start the fire in preparation for Xenosa's arrival.

It was very hard to do that with claws. He muttered frustratedly in dragonic as he tried to rub two sticks together in the way he had seen his father do, hoping to produce smoke, or embers, or sparks. No luck. “Oh, feathers.” he grumbled, as the sticks tumbled from his awkward talons. Well, that was fine, right? She could start it herself. When she arrived. Keke made a little whining sound in the back of his throat. It felt rude to have her do that – the mountains were his home, which made her his guest, which – according to what he knew of Magescian manners – made him responsible for taking care of her. Or something. And, despite it making absolutely no sense, he felt a little bad for not managing the fire.

And then, suddenly, it came to him. “Oh!” he exclaimed. It was so obvious, he didn't know why he hadn't thought about it before. “How silly of me!” he tromped into the rocky lands nearby and dug out some flint, cleaning it with his magic. “This was the obvious answer! Why work with wood when I have...” he hit two pieces of flint together experimentally, “sparks?!” He tapped the flint until the tinder beneath his construction caught. “Murr!” he cheered, happily, as the flame grew and grew until it was a full-fledged, crackling beacon, burning merrily in its firepit.

Pleased and expectant, he sat near the fire, and proceeded to wait. She should be here. Soon...

Things still weren`t good back at home, but they were better than they had been when Xenosa had first left. She wasn`t happy with the outcome, but at least now she was a little more free. Her husband has his man at home and she was allowed to see other people. The way they had laid out terms it was like she was living with two housemates than a husband and his lover. It was also quite hate her husband’s lover; he was just so damn nice and was actually useful. The man could cook, which meant they didn`t need someone there.

As long as no one found out their little arrangement, everyone was just fine and dandy.

Xenosa spotted the meeting spot and landed softly, looking at the fire that Keke had made and looking up to check the time.

“Am I late?” She hoped not, she could have sworn she was on time judging by the suns position. Or maybe Keke had simply arrived a lot earlier then her; at least he had saved her from building a fire. “That fire looks really good.” She commented, approaching and closing her wings back to their tattooed form. Not bad indeed.

“No no!” he reassured her, “I was early.” He beamed at her as she inspected and complemented his fire, marveling at how her wings could so easily be unsummoned. He was proud of his efforts to make the fire, and prouder still at her appreciation. “I wanted to see if I could do it...” he tilted a wing invitingly at one of the clothen 'rugs' he'd set out, “But you're...” he checked the sun, “Right on time!”

He was practically vibrating with anticipation – Xenosa was such a fascinating friend, and he looked forward to another adventure with her. “So – are we hunting again, this time?” he asked, excitedly, “Or is it something else?”

“Oh good.” Xenosa dropped her bag and settled herself on the rug he’d laid out. She felt so… Womanly. He didn’t have any traveling companions and no one had ever set up a fire or a rug for her, nor been so welcoming. That’s when she remembered she’d brought something for him, something that would surely please him. Grabbing her bag, Xenosa dragged it over and began to look through it. “I have something for you.” She said as she continued her search. “I thought you’d have much more use for them than me.” Finally her hands found what they were searching for.

“Ah ha!” Xenosa produced a small pouch and undid the strings, pulling the opening wide and extending the pouch towards Keke. Inside lay five dragon orbs. One from each of the weaker dragons. “I have plenty more at home and I know you’re into this kind of stuff so I thought you might want them.” Plus, she’d also gifted the Gali orb from their last hunt. His collection was growing and she was pleased she could help. “And yes we are hunting some more Gali.” She was probably going to be hunting the Gali for a little while longer.

Note to self: Received 5 dragon orbs = Ysali, Ayrala, Kiandri, Aiskala , Firani

And one Gaili orb from a previous hunt

Keke tilted his head, leaning in curiously. A present? For him? What could it be? The excitement alone was present enough, but what was inside...

“You brought me dragon souls!” he exclaimed, nudging the orbs around so he could get a better look. Ysali... Ayrala... Aiskala... Kiandri... Firani... he could feel the vibrant magic swirling around within them, longing to be free. He could taste the different magics, indescribable flavors just beyond the reach of his senses. Reverently, he nudged them back into their pouch and, with careful teeth, pulled the drawstring shut. “Thank you!” he said, picking the pouch up gently – he assumed this was part of the gift – and set it in a safe place in the campsite, where he wouldn't forget it later. He purred, rumbling deeply as he set the pouch down. “That is a spectacular gift... Thank you so much!” He was finally making himself a proper collection of dragon souls, with more to come since they were hunting more dragons.

“I wish...” he paused thoughtfully for a moment, still purring, “That I had something to give you, too.” Oh well, he'd just have to find something later.

“Don’t worry about it.” Xenosa said while rubbing the back of her neck, who else was she going to give them too? And who else would have appreciated them more than he? Her husband didn’t hunt, so she didn’t bother with him. “In any case, you’re not done thanking me yet. I have no need for the gaili orbs we’re about to hunt down so they will also be yours.” Again she felt sheepish, Xenosa didn’t give gifts and didn’t care for presents. It was odd giving them, but Keke was her friend. “Anyway, ready to hunt?” There was still some light out, they could hunt one or two.

Keke grinned, his face twisted into an expression of pure dragonic joy. “Oh my!” he managed, his tail wiggling happily, “You truly are generous, Xenosa.” He wondered if he could be spoiled from all the dragon orbs. They truly were prestigious gifts, and he wondered why she was so willing to give them to him. He wouldn't be surprised if she just had a hoarde of them, and this was a mere fraction. She certainly seemed the type to have slain a lot of dragons.

“Yes!” he said excitedly. He wouldn't have been able to sleep at this rate. Between the gifts and the promise of more to come, he was too energized to rest. “I'm ready! Shall we go?”

“It’s nothing really.” Xenosa looked away embarrassed. She didn’t know how to react to compliments and much less those that came from friends. Xen just felt like he was the most suited person to receive them and that was that… Time to move on now! Xenosa gave herself a quick one over, fingers gliding on her armor and counting the hidden knives as they went. One could never truly have enough knives, never (and if Xen was completely honest she didn’t know half the amount that she carried and hid on herself). All she knew was that it was enough and she sent a smile to Keke.

“Alright then, lead the way my friend!”

“All right! This way!”

Keke was at least as good as a hunting hound as he tracked the feel of the Gaili's magic over the mountains. Better, because he knew the area well and, moreover, he could feel it's changes in the depths of his soul.

But, ultimately, he was just as exuberant, bounding across the stones with enthusiasm, barely managing not to yip in excitement.

He slowed to a trot, and then to a walk. “There's one just above us!” he whispered, looking up at a cantilevered rocky overhang that shaded them from the dragon's prying eyes, “And more on the next ledge – a whole family!” he cocked his head, as if listening. He was listening, but not entirely with his ears.

“With hatchlings too, I think!”

Oh, how exciting! A chance to see dragon hatchlings in their nest...

It was easy to follow Keke as he tracked down the Gaili. This time things would be better and they wouldn`t be in so much danger as last time. Or at least that is what Xenosa was hoping. She didn`t really want to be placed in such a situation again, she actually wanted to kill more than a single Gaili this time. She was itching for a kill after all and she couldn`t just keep throwing that away. As they began to slow down, Xenosa tightened her grip on her daggers and her eyes peeled for an weird looking rock.

“Hatchlings too?” That was no good; some of the dragons would get much more aggressive if they felt the need to protect their young. She wasn’t here to kill them, but they didn’t know that and that made things a whole lot more complicated for them. “Okay wait here.” Xenosa spread her wings and took flight as soundless as she could manage. In the air the gaily would be unable to detect her and she moved towards the lone dragon. Her daggers slide into the top of its skull with some effort. The dragon let out a single scream of agony before it died and Xenosa tried to kick the orb towards Keke.

The others had awakened however, and they all turned to look at her. “Keke get moving!” The dRagons leaped and so did Xenosa.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 21, 2015 1:03 pm

Keke climbed up the ledge and balanced on a precarious hiding spot behind a rock, crouching in wait as Xenosa moved into position. It was better than waiting on the ledge below – here he could see the situation as it unfolded and react accordingly, and he could easily drop down if he needed to.

As Xenosa killed the dragon with ease and began her flight away, Kekeovonnai dashed out and grabbed the orbs. He skidded, changed direction, and began yet another frantic gallop through the mountains, the dragons hot on his tail. It was close this time, too close, as one of the smaller-bodied specimens followed him despite his twists and turns and canyon dodges. Still, he kept running, even when his muscles burned with exertion and his mouth ached with the orbs's mass. Finally, though, he thought he managed to shake them, running until he finally could stop, gasping, by the edge of the river near the campsite.

He dove behind an outcropping of rock as a shadow suddenly crossed the sky, covering himself with a coating of magicked sand as he hid from the potential dragon...

The shadow was not a dragon but Xenosa herself who landed softly back at camp. “Keke?” She inquired, she didn’t see him. Had he somehow gotten tangled up with the dragons in the fight? No surely not, he would have seen them coming. Undoing her cape and letting it drop to the ground, Xenosa walked around the camp a bit. No he would not have gotten tangled up with them. Perhaps he simply hadn’t made it back to camp yet. Still, the Orderite was prone to fretting over her friends. “Keke?” This time it was said a little louder than before.

Keke hid as quietly as he could, staying as still as possible to avoid detection... until he heard his name. Some of the magicked sand fell off of his smooth scales as he instinctively twitched, responding to his name. He managed, just barely, to not look around at the source – what if it was some kind of trick?

But that was silly. Dragons did not trick, not like that. They would not know his name, and they wouldn't be able to mimic Xenosa's voice, which it very definitely was.

Therefore, Keke did not need to hide. He stepped out from behind the rock, shaking off his cloaking sand with a mighty flourish before trotting over to Xenosa, orbs in mouth. He spat them out onto the ground, pleased.

“There you are!” He nosed at her, briefly, before settling in. He didn't smell blood on her that wasn't dragon blood, and she seemed to be moving all right. He stretched, yawning. “Well, that was fun, wasn't it?!” he commented, looking up at her, his tail wiggling in the dust.

Xenosa had the reflex to pat him when he took a few sniffs at her, she figured he was probably checking for blood and she wanted to reassure him that she had not been injured in the least. “If that is your definition of fun, it is a very scary fun.” Taking a deep breath, Xenosa settled herself on the ground. “We only managed to kill one of them, not the greatest of days.” Though one could have good days and bad days, this was just a bad day out of the many good ones. “But one is always better than none.”

Removing some of her equipment so she could breath, Xenosa regarded Keke. “Perhaps in a weeks’ time I will be back for another hunt, would you want to come along on that one as well?” It was always nice to have company, Xenosa had gotten used to it. Xen felt she was now spoiled for having a partner to rely on, so much so that the thought of hunting alone didn’t appeal to her anymore as it once used to. “You seem to be enjoying yourself so.” She shrugged, trying to make nothing of it, but she really did want him to come.
