[Try One] Sherry was very eager to be given another quest. She'd done so well with the last one that this next one was sure to go well. Another test, another experience to learn. She did wonder if she should be going alone, but everyone else seemed so busy, and she'd seen no sign of her old partner since their return last time. So, alone it was. There was no doubt in her mind that she could do this. So, with a very certain smile on her face, she packed her bags, saddled her horse, and rode away from the castle seeking adventure and tabards. [Try One] [Step 1] The map had her heading in a new direction, though the terrain around the castle seemed much the same to her as before. Hills and rocks, cliffs and winding paths. A lot of paths, actually. "It's a good thing we have this map," she told her horse. Stan. She'd decided to name him Stan. She probably should have told him to be careful. Because one moment everything was fine, and the next Sherry's heart was in her throat because they'd nearly toppled over the edge of a cliff she hadn't even seen. "Oh, no. Oh, no," she breathed, backing up. Quote: Rolling a 1: You accidentally slip, almost fall to your demise off a mountain cliff, and drop some of the food! Roll 1d6 to see how much food you lost. [Try One] [Step 1.5] Unfortunately, some of her food had not been so lucky. The force of the stop had dislodged it, and Sherry watched as it sailed down into the ravine. Not too much, but she had very much been looking forward to that bread. It had been baked fresh that morning, and she'd intended it to be her lunch. Now it would feed some scavenger. Sherry hoped a cute little mouse would find it and feed his family with it. The idea of that made her happy. [Try One] [Step 2] Sherry was glad when they entered the forest. It was dark and scary, and she knew to watch for spiders, but there no cliffs. She hoped. She really hoped there weren't. The forest seemed huge. It took ages to get through. Large twisting roots jutting out here and there, strange calls in the shadows, scuttling noises every which way. Stan seemed to like the forest less and less. Soon enough he was jumping at every little thing. But still, Sherry pressed forward. They had to continue. It was during a short break that Stan finally gave up. Sherry was sitting down to eat a quick meal and had removed her pack from Stan's back. As she nibbled on some food, a shriek came from some nearby bushes. Stan was having none of it anymore. He simply turned an ran away. Jumping to her feet, Sherry tried to chase after him. But the whole reason people rode horses was because they were faster than human legs. Sherry didn't stand a chance. With a heavy sigh she picked up her pack and continued forward. She'd have a very stern talk with Stan later. Quote: Rolling a 3: Your horse gives up on you, running away. Every turn you take, you must subtract another additional 5 food from the caravan. [Try One] [Step 3] Onward she went, trudging along with her pack. Out of the forest and into what the map called a maze. It was indeed a maze, and there old (and new) corpses littered everywhere. Sherry shuddered and shrank away, but did her very best to pretend they weren't there. She didn't want to think about how they'd died. She didn't want to think about the fact that she might be joining them. "No," she breathed to herself. She would not think about it. She would simply carry on, moving forward, until she was done with this quest. She nearly tripped over the small box. How, she didn't know, for now that she looked at it she could see that it did not fit in here. In fact, it looked like a crate from the castle. Further investigation yielded food. Which Sherry deftly pocketed. Surely whoever left this here would no longer need it. ... Sherry pushed that thought away. [Try One] [Step 4] The maze spit her out in front of an old hill. The climb up the hill was some work, though perhaps a little easier than her last climb. Sherry wasn't sure, but she liked to think it was. Or maybe she had gotten stronger? A familiar old man (or did all old men look the same?) was waiting for her when she reached the top. He pushed some food into her arms and then was off before she could even ask him any questions. Sherry shrugged and kept the food. She still had to make it home, and with no horse every little bit would help. As for what she'd come for... there is was. The tabard she was seeking. A very satisfied grin on her face, Sherry took her prize and started home. Quote: Rolling a 6: An old man claiming to be a wizard hands you some food. Thanks, you guess? +10 food.
