Arrakis was more than eager to get started on this quest he was being sent on. He had debated for quite a while as to if he should wait for a group to head out and join them, or continue on his own, and he eventually opted to continue on his own. It wasn't that he was opposed to others, but he had a powerful sense of urgency and didn't want to wait around.
Taking his food and his horse, he set off out of the city.

He would suppose, later, that maybe he should've taken his time after all. Arrakis was doing alright at first, he really was. But, then, he'd stopped to take a drink from a stream, not thinking much of it. ...He thought very much of it when his body rebelled in a spectacular fashion and he found himself riding home while very, very ill. He was determined; this wasn't going to get him down. He'd try again, he would.
...After he could hold himself together, of course.
As soon as he was well again, Arrakis did indeed resume his attempts. He found a horse, repacked rations for the trip, and set off a second time. This time, no drinking from strange streams. He made sure to bring plenty of his own water.

He had been feeling a bit confident in himself. Perhaps a bit too confident, he supposed, as he moved through the mountains. Arrakis did not, however, truly think he was too confident. Not even when he almost slipped and heard his packs slipping behind him on the horse. Wait, no! He swung his arms around to try and catch as many as he could.

(to see how much food he lost)
Arrakis wasn't able to catch a couple of the bags. He watched them tumble away in dismay. By his estimate... that had to be a full fifth of his food, just about! He turned back around, keeping a tight hold on the reins of his horse. Okay, he was going to be exceedingly careful from now on...

[[ The Winding Forest ]]
He made it into the forest safely enough, as much as his pride still stung from losing so much of his food at once back in the mountains. Arrakis made sure to keep a good eye on his packs and on the surrounding area. Nothing was going to make him drop his food this time, he swore.
...What Arrakis had not been counting on was his horse breaking and running when he stopped for a break to stretch his legs. Chasing after it for a very short distance when it bolted, he paused to mutter unkind words to himself. Well... at least he still had some supplies! ...Even if now he was missing even more food.

[The Dwarven Mountains ]
...Oh. More mountains. Arrakis looked up at them with a heavy sigh. Well, it would have been easier to traverse on horseback, but... He supposed he didn't have much of a choice. He was hardly going to turn back now, after all!
... Even if a labyrinth in the mountains was not... quite his idea of a good time. Alright, he could still do this. Casting a nervous glance at the skeletons around him, Arrakis proceeded deeper into the mountain. He was hoping very fervently that whatever was making that noise wasn't going to be something he had to contend with. With his luck, he'd lose even more food, like the food he was losing now as he had to carry it all himself. He needed better luck.
Arrows were not better! Arrows were not better! Arrakis supposed he was fortunate he had aid supplies in his bags, but he was definitely bleeding spectacularly. Wrapping himself as much as he could, he cast a dour look at the floor where a spot had sunk in upon him stepping there. Traps, no horse, losing his food, injured... could it get worse?

(The Mountain Summit)
There it was! Dragging himself over the last few rocks in his way, Arrakis saw what he had come for. To say he was excited would be an understatement. Here it was! He could get it, go back, and be able to progress! And maybe do something about his minor blood loss!

He did it! He made it up the highest hill, grabbed the artifact--being careful not to tear it since it was a tabard--and tried very hard not to cheer. Arrakis did not want to cause any kind of issues or alert anything to his presence, not when he'd actually made it this time! He gathered the tabard close, packed it carefully in his bag, and turned to leave.
...He about jumped out of his skin, not having noticed the old man there. A wizard, he said? ...Well... He was giving Arrakis food, which he sorely needed after his earlier clumsiness, so he couldn't say he was complaining, really. Thanking the man profusely, Arrakis packed the food away just as safely--realising then how low he'd really gotten--and turned to head back home.
