Seeing as her last mission had resulted in a half-baked victory, Chel decided that maybe it would be better to risk her own hide than to rely on others so strongly. She had actually begun to like that Noemi girl, which meant it was even harder watching her walk away.
Her horse was a finicky one, and he didn't seem to like her at all. He'd trot left when she wanted right, and he'd be all sorts of restless the moment she approached. He was a beautiful horse, really he was; all shiny black and muscular features. Even Chel couldn't argue that there was a finer horse somewhere else.
Once he was finally reined, she threw her bags over his back side. "Damn horse," she muttered, to which he responded by moving out of her reach. She sighed and patted his rump. "Come on. We have to do this together anyways. Y'might as well try to be nice."
The horse moved further from her reach.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 29 YOUR HP: 30/30

Once again Chel saddled up, having returned back and taken a long nap. Maybe she'd been pushing herself too hard, or maybe she'd eaten one too many of those stale biscuits.
Either way, she felt confident was ready to face the day again.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 25 YOUR HP: 30/30

The cliffsides were sheer, but her horse was sure-footed. Despite how finicky he was in personality, he really was a reliable steed. Perhaps that was more because he didn't want to get himself killed than anything else.
She took the time to admire the scenery as they went down. Earlier she'd been so focused on the mission and Noemi and Chris that she hadn't taken time to appreciate the vastness of the world. What a shame it was then, that she didn't get to admire this view more often. That she couldn't really fully admire the view, because it was obscured by darkness.
"Keep goin'," she told her horse, flicking the reins lightly. "I know it's pretty but we still got a ways to go." She fiddled with the saddlebags, trying to pull herself out a snack, only to spill some of it over the side.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 25 YOUR HP: 30/30

Luckily most of her apples for Tenebrae were safe, as were her personal pies and dried meats, but much of her fruit went over the edge.
"Lousy maggotpie," Chel cursed, leaning over the edge to see where it had fallen and if it could be rescued. Unfortunately it fell on a small precipice that was virtually unreachable by anything short of flight. Her horse whinnied as though to remind her not to lean over too far lest she fall off too.
Chel took the warning and centered herself back on the horse. "We'll go on without it," she told him.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 21 YOUR HP: 30/30

The forest was much, much creepier without company. It hadn't been so bad when she'd had chatter to move things along, but now everything was silent, quiet, waiting. It had an ominous sort of terror to it; shadows where anything could easily jump out of.
That, and Chel's growing paranoia. She'd had much time to contemplate knighthood while alone, and things weren't stacking up.
For example, why couldn't she remember how she'd come to the knighthood? She was sure she'd had a life, but any time she tried to picture it, the image faded into nothingness. There was nothing to grasp at, nothing to hold up to the light and examine with trepidation.
She felt pressure near her hand and rolled her eyes. "I got it, I'm movin'-"
A giant spider at least three times the size of her head loomed beside her making all manner of clicks and hisses between its horrible little mandibles.
In retrospect Chel would have thought it very good, but the shock of something unexpected caused her to drop her food and make a run for it.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 16 YOUR HP: 30/30

The cave opened up before her and Chel dismounted from her horse. She left the fussy animal at the entrance to the cave, tied around the base of a tree to ensure he wouldn't run away (she had learned her lesson from last time).
Stepping into the stone she was surprised to find that it was a strange purple hue. The walls reflected green and blue light, and it reminded Chel quite a bit of a strange night sky.
She didn't have long to admire though as behind her a mighty roar split the surrounding, cracking some of the gemstones in front of her. All the purple stones were alight, dancing in front of her eyes to the point that she feared turning around.
When she did, she found an enormous boar made of flames, a mighty beast with tusks of ember and tiny eyes of liquid magma. She dropped everything and ran, completely abandoning her horse in exchange for her life. There was no time to lose! QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 8 YOUR HP: 30/30

She screamed herself silly until she hit a road block. Her hands pushed against the purple stones until her fist was red and her mind was trapped. There was no way out, the beast was going to get her-
She screamed so loudly, in fact, that the gems (having been shattered to pieces from earlier) gave way and crumbled. It was an insanely lucky occurrence all things considered since the gems cracked and collided. All at once, snow poured in from the mountainside and met with the side of the beast, quite literally pushing him into the wall. The stone and snow melted under his flames, but eventually he was squished into the side in an amorphous, hideous blob.
Chel fell to the ground for a moment or two, relieved and terrified at the same time. It wasn't until she'd caught her breath that she noticed a piece of cloth smashed into the beast's disgusting mouth. She approached cautiously, but eventually procured a long black cloak from in between the boar's tusks and incisors.
