So one day has passed since he's been knighted. oh, sorry. Apprentice-knighted. Yeah.

Apparently his Great Knight (heck, all of the Great Knights) has tasked all of the apprentices below them to go to a journey to procure some better armor. Well, nobody can blame him for that, since most of the things they wore are either selfmade or looted from nobody knows where.

But that's alright, he can do with it. It's a training in itself.

But seeing how many of his fellow apprentices get carted into the infirmary while leaking from both ends of the body kinda chilled his will.

He walked to the Royal Scriber to ask what artifacts are still left untouched. He also asked for it to be some kind of magical gauntlets, since his' needs replacing badly- he had overgrown it since...
-when?

The scribe gives him a map with a long trail drawn on it...a rather LONG trail. And journey.

So the logical next step is to procure food and water for this so-called journey. He headed to the pantries and...

Given some hard rye bread, vats containing both water and wine, as well as some dried jerky. That's not bad, he thought while giving his thanks to the old cook.

Now his quest will begin.

Step 1: The Trek forwards.

The skies has already blackened when he reached a small hill. He looked back at his own footsteps; the Castle's towers can still be seen at the foot of the horizon as a small spire.

Since they do not have extra horses to match the number of the fledgling knights (and other reasons), they have to trek on foot. While bringing all their needs, including food, in one rather large canvas bag.

Reith silently thanked the pantry chef for giving him only the bare neccesities for this journey---any more of food and he'll just exhaust himself for the extra luggage.

-not to mention food attracts wild beasts.

*sssshts*

"?"

The foot of the hill is a rather lonely grassland with tall, heavy bushes of grass. There's bound to be some animals hiding inside them---

'RRRRRrrrrrrr'

"Wolves!" He spat. Immediately he dropped the large sack into the ground and pulled out his weapon. He haven't lit a torch, so the foodstuff's smell attracted those carnivores almost immediately.

One, two, three, four...

He counted there's at least eight wolves around him. Each slowly revealed their faces with fangs already bared and posture lowered, ready to pounce---

Reith swung the folded weapon open, ready to intercept---

...

As aftermath of the attack, there's some newly formed bite wounds on his arm and legs; yet the foodstuff are fine.

His copper gauntlet cracked after blocking two bites, though.

Step 2: The Winding Forest

One night has passed since the attack by the wolves.
Bandaging the wound after rinsing them thoroughly with wine (which afterwards are drunk; hey, no wasting food!) Reith ate a simple breakfast of watered hard bread and one piece of jerky. Stomping out the campfire he set last night, he packed the remaining food and tent---

After passing the small hill and walking a while, he realized he has walked into a forest.

Not a normal forest, at least. This forest has scent of magic that runs deep and far---

Thunk.

He stumbled on something. A package?
Judging from the sweet aroma coming from inside it---bingo. Two vats of wine and a whole wheel of cheese.

But who dropped this? Maybe another knight? Maybe some traveler?
In the earlier case, he might cross path with them. In the latter case, he should look for them---

But what if this is a trap?

He crouched down and examined the ground closely. There's hooves and greaves's trail leading from the entrance to somewhere deeper in the woods. By the depth of the trail, it seems both the horse and the knight is in full health.

That would mean these foods are dropped by, probably, a knight. So unlucky for them.

"Welp, I'd better reach them before I lost their track." He muttered, adding the bag of food into his' and quickened his walking pace.

Part 3: The Dwarven Mountains

Strange.

Of the weirdest thing, a vision flashed into his mind just after he exited the forest. In that vision he saw himself bloodied and HOLED from all those arrows swarming down after he stepped on a certain floor.

As he continued his journey while pondering the vision, in front of him a large opening in the rocks sprawled. The smell of rust, dust and blood assaults his nose.

Lighting up the torch, he carefully explored the ruins. Judging from the height of the ceiling and the size of the artifacts inside, this must be a Dwarven ruins. Or so it may be, since nobody saw those stout little guys since forever.

Suddenly, the vision comes right back at him as he turned at a corner.
This is it; the place where 'he' died. Even the floor pattern looked the same.

Maybe...it's a precaution vision? The so-called future sight?

...he decided to take the warning seriously. Getting a running start, he jumped over the tile-

Click.

-and activated another trap.

With a loud 'CLANK' sound the roof opened and a large axe comes swinging right to his face. Since the ruins are dwarven-sized, he can't really duck---

So he pressed himself flat to the wall instead. The axe passed without problem---

CLANK CLANK CLANK.

"WOE AM ME!" He yelled, as more axes comes swinging from the walls.

Step 4: The Mountain Summit.

It's over.

All those axes and pitfalls and spikes and boulder and whatever-

His journey has ended.

Exiting from another hole in the wall, Reith found himself standing over the clouds---it seems the dwarves' ruins was not 'ruins' but rather an underground city, built spawning a mountain range.

Somehow, he made it. Somehow.

And at the arms of the statue over there, his spoils. It's probably as shiny as the time it was made---the Gauntlet of Narwhal.

Other than the fact that this pair of gauntlets are inscribed with an intricate carving of a narwhal pair, it seems that from the lore associated with it, the wearer can summon giant spears shaped like narwhal's tusks to stab enemies. Neeeeat.

He should get his name inscribed on it. Just for sake of it.
