Lady in the Golden Wood

Quite frankly, he was not quite sure what he was doing. After becoming a knight apprentice, he had wandered among the other apprentices, but there had seemed to be something vaguely lost about him. Of course Cress had been told that that must have had something to do with sacrificing his memories and all the shaaabam, but yeah...errrr...he didn't really know anyone...Well, no s**t. So in order to feel somewhat useful, at least a little bit because he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing at this---right. So he had gone to the guild master, given a map, gotten the task to retrieve something nifty s**t, and pony'd up. Oh, and he was also given a basic bag of supplies. He looked into his bag at this point. It looked like there was quite a lot of food, which hopefully was a lot more than he needed because if this was going to be the amount of food he was supposed to consume for the quest, it was going to be a long quest.

[Step 1]

Cress probably should have not been thinking about how much food the guild master thought he was going to consume each day and how this could and would reflect on the duration and difficulty of his quest and whether or not he should go back and get some more food because it was always good to be prepared or to go back and give the guild master some food because if this quest was not going to be that long, someone else should really have the food. And at this point, he rode into a bees nest.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." His horse had reared up and Cress fell out of the saddle and landed hard on the ground. He got up groaning. Well, at least the horse was nice enough to leave the caravan behind with all the food. Otherwise, I would be in deep sh-- There were the angry bees. Of course.

A good half an hour later, Cress was back walking on the path, dragging the caravan behind him, nursing seven bee stings, and thanking the guild master that he, at least, did not have to worry about food. It was going to be a long journey.

[Step 2]

It was a long while when Cress reached the winding forest. True to its name, it was very confusing and as he followed the path cautiously, it was not for the first time that he thought how it would have been better if he could have dragged some other poor soul on this quest with him. But in the end, this quest was for the greater good, wasn't it? And from what he had gathered, it was supposed to be pretty routine, wasn't it? Right? Right? Right? Yeah...he had not desire to step off the path at the moment. He had heard things about giant spiders and he wasn't too keen to meet any.

Before long, he saw a weird package on the side of the road. Upon closer inspection, it was a bag of turnips. Weird. Was he supposed to take the bag of turnips...? He looked at his own supply of food. It was dwindling, but he didn't really like turnips...and what if these weren't actually turnips but ended up giving him stomach trouble and cause him to groan in pain for hours on end? He frowned slightly, but picked the bag up. He would eat them last, if necessary. And worse come to the worse, he could use it as artillery and try to knock squirrels out of trees.

[Step 3]

Cress had now reached the Dwarven Mountains, and looking at it, he actually preferred the forest. Sure, the forest had been creepy and all of that, but at least there weren't skeletons and decaying bodies lying around. There also hadn't been the blood curdling howl in the distance.

He continued trudging up the mountain. It really was going to be a long journey.

[Step 4]

Cress stared around. Wow, he had actually made it to the mountain top without any crazy obstacles or being attacked by dwarves, or the owner of the creepy howl, or anything. He pretty dumbstruck by his own luck. He didn't even have to eat any of the sketchy turnips he picked up. He climbed the highest hill and picked up what seemed to be and was hopefully, the artifact. It was the Greater Gauntlet of the Crow. Very intricate design, super fancy, why would it just be on top of a hill like this?

He spun around as he heard a noise. There was an old man who said he was a wizard and then handed Cress a turnips. "Thanks..?" He nodded politely, pocked the artifact, and made the slow journey back to Camelot.
