She wanted to find something productive to do. Sure there was sparring and things, but she wanted to do more. There had to be something more she could do.
And it turned out there was. While poking around and getting herself some much needed string, she heard of a task that she could undertake. So, she walked right up to that guild master and asked to be given a task.
She'd been given a map, a sack of supplies, and a suggestion to not go alone. It being her first quest, Sherry thought that rather sound advice.
As luck would have it, she was not the only person who had decided to see the guild master at that point in time.
"Hello. My name is Sherry and I'm on a quest to find the [ Greater Leggings of the Orion Knight ]. Would you like to join me? He says it's a dangerous quest, and requires more than one person." Okay. He hadn't said that, but he had suggested taking another person. Sherry just...interpreted it differently.

Being an apprentice, there was little he could actually do besides spar and run errands. As it was, it seemed there was already a small party at the courtyard, and Jake didn't feel like associating with othe knights-in-training, so running an errand it was. However, he had not expected that the task he'd be given was to find a pair of pants with fancy stars on it, and merely gave the guild master a deadpan look that seemed to say "Are you sure the king really wants a fancy pair of tights". The guild master's shrug answered nothing at all, except perhaps confirm that the king was likely a tad strange. Though, considering he had never actually MET the guy, Jake couldn't make assumptions. Yet.
He had planned to do the quest by himself, but it seemed another was given the same quest, and he only frowned at the request. He should say no. He should just turn her down and be on his way. ... ...... "Fine."

[Part 1]
"Excellent."
Sherry more than happily led the way to horses, eager as she was to get this started. This quest would make her stronger, and she'd be a better knight for it.
The terrain was rocky, and the path they followed was steep. Her companion hadn't quite seemed the talkative type, and Sherry had been content to travel in silence, for the most part. But with each step the ponies took, she grew more and more curious.
And so, as the path narrowed so that they had sheer rock walls going up on their left, and a cliff leading down into the some abyss on their right, Sherry finally asked, "So. What's your name?"
She shouldn't have said anything. Her horse, apparently spooked by the sound, skipped, his hoof coming down on the rock in a very precarious manner. He teetered, Sherry tottered, and she had the sickening sensation of fear rise as the cliff was suddenly far too close.
She didn't fall. But some of the stuff in her pack did.

"No, no, no!" Sherry reeled back, away from the cliff, one hand pushing her bags closed.
"That was close," she huffed, looking at her companion.

[ Step 1 ]
Oh, right. It hadn't occurred to him that he didn't introduce himself yet. It wasn't something important. "Jake." Perhaps he shouldn't have spoken either because suddenly Sherry almost died. He merely stared at the food that fell out of her pack as she clambered away from the edge. Maybe he should be holding onto the food instead. He regretted going along with this clumsy woman.
But maybe he spoke too soon because not long after, he was attacked by a wolf, barely fending it off with his sword.

[Step 2]
Sherry might have screamed a little when the wolf attacked. She'd deny it if asked, of course. Knights shouldn't be afraid of little things like wolves. Jake clearly wasn't. He fought the darn thing off. "Nice work," Sherry said. "Are you hurt?"
She was glad to be off that darn mountain pass. Though she was worried this forest would have more wolves. She hoped not. Sherry found she was really glad she'd brought someone with her.
"So," she said, reaching into her pack and pulling out an apple. "Do you think there will be more wolves in this forest?" She was still not happy about that wolf.
Her eyes stayed on Jake while she waited for an answer. Which meant she didn't see the spider until it was on her. Right out of the trees and onto her shoulder. Sherry screamed and flailed, brushing at the giant thing.
The apple may or may not have gone in Jake's direction.

[ Step 2 ]
It was a good thing for Sherry then because he didn't notice. Mostly because he was too busy with not dying. "No." he huffed, putting the saber away. If he couldn't handle a measly wolf, he couldn't call himself a knight. Well, he technically wasn't a knight YET, but... eventually.
Sherry's meaningful questions did nothing but grate on his nerves. "I don't KNOW, stop asking-" The shriek caught him off guard, and he pulled out his sword, thinking the woman was getting mauled. Something flew his way, and Jake swung his sword, slicing the apple in half. "WHAT THE HELL STOP WASTING FOOD."
Ugh, that outburst drained him. If Sherry got to stuff her face, then he should be able to grab a bite too. It wasn't fair she was wasting everything with her clumsy antics. Apparently the giant spider that assaulted Sherry was quite attracted to food, and hopped onto Jake's shoulder. Jake threw the bread at it after cursing loudly.

[Step 3]
Sherry was huffing and puffing, trying to get her breath back after that. "Who," she said between breaths, "is wasting food now?" She said it with a smile.
A little while later (and yes, Sherry would try to make pleasant conversation with Jake, though...really there was not much to talk about), they came to a fork in the forest.
"I think it's this way," she said, looking at the map. "Should be some mountain pass not too far ahead." Which, pleasantly, would mean no more spiders.
And there was indeed some kind of mountain in their way. A path...that didn't look very safe, in Sherry's mind. Nor her horse's, it seemed. For the beast reared, bucked, and sent Sherry flying onto the hard ground, her pack landing on top of her.
Her horse fled. "Um."

"You." That bread thing never happened. Nope. Never.
Jake made it a point that he was IGNORING her for most of the journey, but sadly she didn't take the hint. And now here she was thinking she knew the right way. Obviously she was going to get the both of them killed.
It seemed even the horse understood this, and fled. "...Good job."
Well, considering she didn't have a horse now, she was only going to slow him down. So Jake went ahead, and accidentally triggered a trap. There were arrows. Much blood. Many deaths. ... one death.

[Step 4]
The arrows. So many arrows. "No!" Sherry screamed. But Jake was wounded. Out even. Sherry sat for a time, unsure of what to do. According to the map, they were close. His wounds didn't seem too life threatening, in her unprofessional opinion as she did her best to dress them. She had never dealt with arrow wounds, but she hoped she'd done alright.
As she finished, she made a decision. "I'm going to go see how close we are. If we can complete the quest and return safely, all the better, right?" Jake seemed very knightly, after all. Knights finished what they set out to do. "Wait here."
So, Sherry started down the path again, finding a mountain top to climb.
It was deceptive. It took her at least twice as long to climb as she had thought it would. She almost gave up and went back. Jake might be needing her. But no. Their first quest. They were going to complete it.
So close, just a little further. A little bit more...and there. She was at the top. There was some more huffing and puffing. That was some work. Some serious- "Wow."
The Leggings were gorgeous. Dark in color, with little pin-pricks of light that were star-like. "That has to be it." Relief washed over her. The quest was finished.
Sherry scooped up the leggings, only to find she was not alone on the mountain. An old man was there with her. He spoke quite quickly, something about being a wizard, and gave her some food.
"Thanks," Sherry said, eyes wide. "Thank you very much. And now, I should be going." She asked the man if he needed help getting off the mountain, but he declined. So, Sherry set off back down the hill.
Jake was right where she'd left him. "Here, I have them! We did it! And I even have extra food for you." Luckily, his horse was still around. Which was good, because she planned to use that horse to carry Jake back.
They had enough food to make the journey, she was sure.
