This was someplace Veraç had never been before... It was an interesting place to be sure. Full of various plant life and lots of... water? It was more like mud than anything else. Some places were sticky and others were kinda... mucky? He really couldn't get down what it was about this place. He liked it though! It was rather cool and it was shady all over the place. The plants were delightful to look at. They were all kinds of sizes and colors. It was really impossible to see them all.

Shaking his wings out and stretching them, he basked in the bit of sun there was coming through the trees. This place even smelled nice baked in the warm sun. He really couldn't believe he had never been to a place like this before. Maybe his father knew what it was. He had done a lot more traveling than himself after all. His father was a wise Kalona, certainly someone to look up to and try to be! It was very important to be just as world wise as his own!

As he continued further into this place, he came upon a rather... large pool of mud. It looked like it was both thick and sticky, so he decided that it would probably be best to walk around it than through it. His wings would have been his first choice, but with all the low hanging vines, he wouldn't be able to get high enough off the ground to safely hop over it. So around it was!

She was growing more and more bored as time passed. The mare had no idea what her life was doing; what her soul was doing. All she could do was breath out a sigh and continue onward. And it was upsetting. No matter what she did, Yiska was getting bored. She played pranks on people, but no one ever seemed to react to them like she wanted. They were just so... mundane. Boring. Oh so boring. Her ears pinned back as she moved through the swampy terrain, her eyes falling half lidded. The eel like tail that was attached to her flank dragged slightly in the mud, creating a small trail behind her. The shadowy figure of a cat seemed to dance and prance around her legs as she walked, letting out small hissing noises every now and then. Yiska glanced down toward the creature, before breathing out a sigh and nodding her head in agreement. "I know, I know, Shadowcat. This is... boring." She murmured lowly, her flank giving a small quiver as she moved.

And then she saw something. Something was moving in the corner of her eye, and it took all she had not to let out a slight shriek of surprise. No one ever traveled this deep into the mucky swamp. After all, it was dirty and sticky and... well... a swamp. And with her species, she easily was able to move in both the land, water, and mud. Her head tilted slowly to the side, much like a dog, as she tilted some to be able to see what was moving easier. Her light green eyes flickered along the form of a stallion, watching as he seemed to move with amusement through the swamp. He had large wings, which was startling in of itself. No winged creature came this deep in! It was unheard of. She glanced down toward Shadowcat with a surprised look. The creature looked up at her with what seemed to be mischief before scuttling away. Yiska grinned lightly, her tail giving a small flick behind her. Yes, this would be intriguing.

Moving steadily, Yiska got to one side of the tree lined path. Shadowcat rested on the other. They passed a vine to one another, and laid as flat to the ground as they could. When the stallion started to meander toward them, Yiska pulled the vine slightly tighter, and Shadowcat did the same. She waited with baited breath, watching as the stallion moved closer and closer. The goal was to have him stumble over the vine and fall into the mucky water mixed with thick mud. Just trip. Shadowcat, the more rough and tumble of the two, decided it was better to get even more fun in. At the last moment, the creature pulled the vine more taunt, hoping to possibly hurt the stallion as well.

Verac was not watching closely to where his feet where bringing him. Which he should have been doing. His father had often told him that it was important to pay attention to everything in his surroundings. Which meant watching where your feet were going to land. Even if it was an after thought of some kind, it was just smart considering how many different lands the herd moved about to. Though the herd, and his father, were no where to be seen this day. Which meant that Verac's mind was not on the usual paying attention or battle ready notion that it was on when he was around his father and helping to protect the herd. So, naturally, Verac never saw the vine that had been laid down in front of him. Or even the shadowy creatures that were holding onto it on either side. This when, at his full attention, never would have escaped him. No matter how careful and quiet they were.

As he came upon the vine, he was busy staring up at the sky. It was interesting to see how the trees broke in so few areas to let any light in. It made it seem like he was perpetually relaxing under a nice tree. Though the vague idea of how so many plants could possibly live in a place such as this only had a second to even cross his mind before it happened.

The fall to the ground seemed like it too forever. He flared out his wings as he tried to catch himself, but to no avail. As his chest hit the ground, he saw something he couldn't believe... A shadow seeming to move out of the corner of his eye. There was no way! This thought didn't have time to fully form before he hit. And he hit hard. His front legs were under him, his rump in the air like some colt just learning how to walk and trip for the first time. His wings were flared out as long as they could go, subsequently lying flat in the mud on either side of him. Chest first he had landed in the warm sticky mud, his face following soon after. The pain of hitting the Earth, even just the mud, so hard was terrible! He honestly had no idea that anything so soft looking could hurt so much!

Verac groaned as he moved onto his side. Certainly a better way to lay that flat on his chest with the wind knocked out of his lungs. Carefully and slowly, he took deep breaths, trying to take everything in and form what had happened in his mind. It was difficult since he hadn't been paying attention. Closing his eyes, he concentrated on his breathing. Mud was caked on almost every part of his body. The only place that didn't have even a splatter of mud was on his left flank. It was the only place that probably wouldn't smell later when he could find someplace to actually wash off the terrible mud. He sighed a bit, eyes still closed, still concentrating on his breathing.

Yiska waited patiently, very excited to see the stallion stumble. Stumble. Not face plant into the mud. As soon as she felt how tight the vine was, she panicked. She tried to think of what to do, but it was too late. She was jerked forward slightly from the way his hoof caught and pulled forward, and she dropped the rope almost immediately. Her ears pinned back for a moment, before she glanced over toward where Shadowcat was. The creature seemed to snicker, before disappearing into the dark. Yiska glared toward where the creature vanished, before breathing out a sigh. So much for being helped with the clean up and apology. Even if it wasn't fully her fault. Her tail skimmed the ground, and after a moment, she slowly stood up from the brush, and took a small step forward, as if rather timid and uncertain. Yea. She was nervous. He could probably hurt her. He was a Kalona, after all.

"O-Oh no... I... I'm s-sorry." She murmured, voice a soft, uncertain tone. She moved forward carefully before dipping her head down toward where he was. She glanced around for the shadow creature that fled the scene, before looking back at the Kalona. She hadn't meant to hurt him! or have him get hurt... or have him get coated in mud. She just wanted him to stumble and look around all confused. Not... Not this. Her ears pinned back, and the fin on her back seemed to almost deflate as she watched him try to steady his breathing. What if she had seriously hurt him? What if he was really, really angry? Her ears pinned back slightly, and she dipped her head down, letting her hoof graze along the ground as she swung her front leg back and forth. 'A... Are you o-okay...?" She murmured uncertainly, her eyes flickering up toward him. Hopefully he wasn't too angry....

Verac calmly steadied his breathing, eyes still closed. He seriously couldn't believe that he had never even seen that vine coming. It had to of been the easiest thing in the world to see. Certainly he wouldn't be telling his father this story later. It would be far too embarrassing. And his father would be far too disappointed in him for not paying attention to the world around him, especially in a strange place he knew nothing about. This was going to be difficult indeed.

As his thoughts continued on a bit more, he heard a small voice talk to him. He was pretty sure it was to him anyway. Cause although the world had stopped spinning,, his ears still had a bit of a ring in them. Though who else could they possibly be talking to around here. And it sounded like a sorry, which he certainly hoped would be directed to him since he was the one on the ground. Slowly he opened his eyes to take in what was in front of him. Mostly he saw mud, since he was in a rather large puddle of it, but once he blinked his eyes a couple of times, the rest of it came more into focus. What he saw looked like a green blob to him at first. Then it slowly became clear. It looked like a mare, which was a good start besides the green blob! Then the details of her markings came into focus a bit more, they were rather nice. Nice and striped, reminded him of the very swamp that they were in actually. Then he saw her tail. He imagined it must have been a Kelpie tail. When one took the fins into consideration, it certainly made sense. Made sense even more that she would be in a place like a swamp, or at least someplace with water. He had seen them before while he was traveling with his father. They were interesting creatures to be sure, though not usually so mean.

Slowly he lifted his head to look at the mare. Then, even slower, he righted himself to a laying position, shaking himself lightly. He didn't want a spinning head again after all. Looking at her carefully, he gave the best answer that he could, "I could be better..." He looked at her seriously as he carefully flexed his wings, testing to see if there was any damage. "I don't think there is any permanent damage to anything..." He looked about, trying to decide if the shadow he had seen was real or not. Then to see if there was a proper foot hold or something to stand. As he started to move his front legs, he decided that it was best to simply stay where he was for now. The ground hadn't quite stopped spinning as of yet. And he knows that it would be best to make sure that the world isn't spinning before to bother to try and walk... or stand.

The half-Kelpi shifted uncertainly on her hooves. She could feel the guilt already starting to eat away in her chest. She hadn't meant to hurt him; honestly she hadn't. Had Shadowcat not pulled the rope taunt then he would have been just fine. A small stumble, maybe some mud splashing up against his chest and feathers. It would have been funny; but not dangerous! She never wanted to hurt anyone with her little pranks. They were just supposed to be little, not painful. Her tail flicked behind her, the long green appendage catching the mud at the end. She nibbled her lip slightly as she tried to figure out just what to do. She could apologize profusely, that was always an option. But he seemed to be in such a bad mood that Yiska wasn't certain if he'd accept her apology. Even if it was from the heart. For a moment she pondered running; fleeing would mean she wouldn't have to face his possible anger, which would help her oncoming anxiety. But if she fled it would be rude, right? The mare almost whined as she tried to figure out just which way to go. Stay and take the lashing or flee and never see him again...

When he finally spoke, Yiska's ears snapped up and she stared down at him with uncertainty. She danced on her hooves for a second, thinking that maybe she could go find something that would make him better, only to stop and drop her head slightly. She stared at him for several seconds, before flicking her tail behind her. After a few moments hesitation, she settled to lay down on the ground near him. It probably was easier for him to talk to her without having to look up. If he was dizzy from the fall... She cringed slightly at the thought of having hurt someone. It was an accident! And as much as she wanted to tell him so, she seemed at a loss for words. Her ears pinned back for a moment, before she glanced back up. Shadowcat lurked quietly in the trees, cocking his head to the side. After a moment he disappeared back into the brush. Yiska would have to find him later.

When the stallion mentioned he didn't think anything permanent was damaged, she breathed a sigh of relief. That was good! She dipped her head down a bit more, tail flicking behind her to where it scattered some mud. She glanced over her shoulder to look before pulling her tail out from the grime and then glanced back at the stallion. He was coated in it... "I... I'm sorry... I... I am glad th-that you aren't... u-um... hurt." She murmured quietly, her eyes flickering down to the mud. "I... I um know of a place... that has clean water. I-If.. If you'd like to freshen up."

The rather muddied Kalona shook himself a bit and took a deep breath before deciding to try and stand again. It would be a decent idea in the least. Since it's really the only way for him to truly see how hurt he really is. Though... If he can try to stand, he certainly can see how he can't be too terribly hurt. Flapping his wings a bit, trying them out. Taking another breath, he gets up to his feet. Still feeling a bit dizzy, he drops his wings down to the ground. He doesn't want to try and lift too terribly much. Looking at himself, he is rather... disgusted with how covered in the gross sticky smelly mud he was. It really wasn't a very good look for him. Even with the spotty pink coat that he was born with, the mud was ugly. It made his coat look ugly.

Verac looked at the mare laying on the ground where he had just been laying himself. Looking at her, he realized that she had actually mentioned something to him. "You will be even happier to hear that I'm really not hut then!" To show her just that, he stamped down his front hooves a bit, "Oh! A place to wash up would be great actually... Since this mud really isn't something that I want to keep on my coat for too terribly long..." He looked at the mare and moved, very slowly, toward a tree to lean against. Though nothing seemed to be out of place or anything, just standing and responding to this mare winded him. He really hoped that the place she had been talking about wasn't too far off from where they were now. Too much of a walk would hurt more than help.

Yiska watched the stallion carefully, her eyes flickering along his form. She panicked some, worried he would be hurt and that he would end up being unable to fully stand. She somewhat danced on her hooves, as if trying to get rid of some anxious energy. But all it did was make her more anxious. She didn’t want him to be permanently wounded. The mare let out a soft breath when he finally got to his feet, and she was able to focus on him and keep herself in check. She smiled gently, but it quickly shifted into something more nervous. She moved carefully forward as if to analyze him, and then took a small step back, her ears perking up, staring at him curiously as he seemed to prove his point.

The stallion stomped his hooves, his wings seeming to beat slightly as well; proving that he was okay. And that was a good thing! It was very, very good that he was okay. She smiled some once more, before dipping her head a little shyly. Yiska’s ears flickered, and she nodded her head, looking over her shoulder. The river wasn’t too far off, it would probably take them half an hour to get there, if they walked slowly. But he was certain that they could get there easily if they started now. Very much so before nightfall. Her long eel like tail flicked behind her, before she turned her attention back to the stallion, staring at him as he seemed to get winded and needed to lean against a tree. The Kelpie blinked and moved forward carefully. She hesitated, before steeling herself and moved forward once more, carefully ducking herself under his wing to help support him. If the Kalona was going to kill her, now would be the time to do it.

Yiska shifted a bit before carefully nudging him forward, and moving forward herself. Her tail flicked again, and she had to get them carefully to the river. She moved slowly, and carefully, stopping whenever she thought he needed a break. Yiska hesitated for a moment, before letting her eyes flicker toward the bushes. She nosed herself forward, and eased through until she could get them past the bushes. The river was clean, and clearly well taken care of. She dipped herself out from his wing, and moved into the water, her hooves pressing against the soft rocks and sand in the river bed. She tilted her head toward the Kalona, smiling shyly once more and nodded for him to come forward and into the water. If he could get into the water, she could help him to get cleaned up. ”Um… This should… should help with the mud. If you can m-manage to get into the water… I can help.. If you need me too.” She said gently, her eyes softening some.

Verac smiled a bit at the mare. She certainly seemed to be happy that he was okay, which was a good thing. It was a good thing for both of them actually. Her, because she probably wouldn't feel as bad for tripping him up and causing him so much pain. And then he was happy because... well... It's him. It's his body and if it was hurt, it would certainly be a bad thing! Plus it would make his father even more upset if he found out he had been severely hurt cause he wasn't paying attention to his feet. Which would make getting hurt all the worse. Especially if he found out that he was just staring around at mud, trees, and vines. Now that he thought about it... Even he was upset at himself! Getting so caught up in himself that he wasn't paying attention. So caught up that he didn't see it coming.

Shaking his head a bit, he stood up straight again. It was time to see if he could make it to clean up. This mud certainly wasn't getting better smelling the longer it stayed on his coat. As he thought this, the mare came up beside him and tucked herself under his wing. If one was going to support another with wings, this was probably the best way to do it! His wings were sturdy enough to stay put. And it shouldn't put too much strain on the mare either. All good things! Carefully he rested his wing around the mare, attempting to hold onto her and make it a bit easier to travel. If she was going to help him, he would certainly be kind enough to try and help her along to helping him. Though he had no idea that she was thinking he would eat her or something. Of course he wouldn't think that such things cause he wouldn't eat someone... Even if they were kind of being a jerk.

This mare was very considerate when it came to his needs for breaks. Which was certainly a nice thing considering his injuries meant he needed a few of them. Even when it didn't seem like it was going to be too much of a distance to the river she had been talking about. At least he was able to walk thought! That certainly made the journey better in his own mind. And the journey was pretty much the whole battle. Once they got there it should be easy enough to wash up and then rest a bit more.

When they came to the river, Verac watched as the mare slipped out from under his wing and climbed into the water herself. He nodded a bit as she shyly offered to help him, "I think that that would be nice if you could help me. I don't see myself being able to really wash completely enough on my own." He smiled a bit as he slowly moved into the water himself. Carefully dipping his wings in, he watched as some of the mud seemed to simply melt away. Though a lot of it seemed pretty stubborn and immovable. He huffed lightly and looked at the mare, "If you could help to get it off a bit more, that would be nice. It seems to want to stay stuck on me forever, which is certainly not a nice feeling." He frowned as he spoke to her.

It wasn’t very long to the river, but despite all that, Yiska knew it would take longer to get there. He would need breaks, after all, he was hurt. Or.. maybe not hurt, but muddy for sure. The mare would pause every so often, look behind her and watch him, speak words of encouragement. She didn’t want him to fall behind or to be hurt or anything. And as much as she wanted to get there quickly, she knew it was for the best to take it slow. Yiska paused near a big oak, looking around. Her tail flicked behind her, and when he caught up, she moved on again. They’d be there soon; they’d be able to get him cleaned up and then go different ways, and she could scold Shadow Cat later about being that mean to people.

When they got to the river, she was in it in a second. She loved the water; she loved the way it felt on her skin. But Kelpi had different skin than other Soquili; had different chemistry. And the water always made her feel a little more alive. She glanced toward the stallion as he moved into the water, and let a small smile shift onto her features. ”I am glad to help! After all, it’s my fault… that um… that you… fell… oh dear.” Yiska fretted for a second, her ears flipping backwards, and when she was able to push the thoughts away, she focused once more on the stallion. She’d need to help him get clean!

As he dipped his wings in the water, the mare smiled. She turned and pressed herself closer toward him, and lifted her tail to splash some water onto his flank. She moved over toward him, and pressed her nose lightly into the side. She started to scrub away the dirt and mud, to make sure every small bit of him got clean. And she continued to scoop water, helping to get it in hard to reach spots. She moved around him, nosing him and brushing her tail against him to try and get the mud from his fur.

”I think we’re almost done…” She whispered. Yiska moved around to his other side, making sure to clean up a few spots she had missed, and moved to press against his wings and get the thin skin cleaned up instead of caked with mud. She paused around the front of him, blinking for a second before she let out a somewhat shy smile. ”Missed a spot.” She murmured. The small mare took a step forward, and lifted up a bit on her hind legs, to where she could brush her nose against his temple, clean off a small bit of mud just under his mane. ”There. All better.”
