"R-Raphana! You don't have to do this!"

"Ooooddiiii!"

The Oddish puttered about on both of her feet for a moment before dashing out in the direction of the Mightyena with enough thrust to send her temporarily airbourne. However, the pent-up Frustration attack was for naught; she loved Magnolia too much, so the canine easily punted the Grass-type aside with an exaggerated flick of its paw. Raphana was thrown off like a weed plucked from an unruly garden; landing as a with a bedraggled pant on the Pilkiras Plains.

"Raphana!" Magnolia cried. "Oh Arceus, are you–"

Before she had a chance to say more, the Mightyena turned its leering yellow eyes to her; lips drawn back to reveal the sharp fangs prepared to snap at her if she took another step into its territory. Already heavily frightened of it from her first encounter when in Zatao, Magnolia chose the smart option and ran. She scooped up Raphana in her hands and turned heel toward the direction of where civilization resided. However, her brow knitted together in desperation. Her Oddish wasn't in the best of cases and she wasn't sure if she'd survive the long haul from the wilderness to a center before fainting.

"H-hang in there, Raphana!" Magnolia said, looking down to her bosom where the Grass-type resided, heaving long, desperate breaths. "You'll be all right! I promise! Just please hang in there!"

"Okay, Tulip. Ready?" Hatch threw a water balloon into the air. "Vine whip!"

"Bell!" Tulip, a young bellsprout, snapped out her vines to grab the balloon without breaking it.

"Great job, Tu- ..lip.." His grin faded into an exasperated smirk as Tulip instantly pulled the water balloon back and into her blossom. "You're worse than a toddler," he murmured. That was when he heard the cries. His head snapped around to seek the source. "Come on, Tulip!" he called as he darted toward the sounds. He'd come to the woods with Tulip to train her to have more control over her abilities. Now he was chasing a scream...

As he ran, he saw a flicker of light violet, making him skid to a halt. "Hey!" He turned and ran for the flash of color. "Hey! Are you okay?"

Tulip was running alongside Hatch, balloon still tucked into her mouth.

Magnolia skidded to a halt as well; her feet crackling like sparks against the dried grass her heels dug into. Up to her raced a male about her age, and though her first instance at any time was to make friends, she was pent-up with too much panic to instantly form a hello. Instead, she shot at him in desperation, holding out Raphana.

"S-she's hurt terribly!" the young trainer stammered. "She tried to protect me from a Mightyena, but she wasn't strong enough! P-please, if you have any Potions or berries – anything – please spare one so I can heal Raphana!"

The Oddish twitched in her pale hands, her panting growing more ragged now. She barely opened eyes to the other, trying to see him through the blur.

He took in her harried state, and then the state of the oddish. Hatch instantly whipped his pack around to dig into it even as he stumbled to a stop. "What about you? Are you okay?" he asked, pulling out a small potion. One arm reached out to cradle the oddish while his other hand popped the cork on the bottle. "Here you go. This will help."

Tulip toddled in circles around the pair, watching them both curiously.

Magnolia drew her breath as if she were witnessing the results of an extensive operation on her Oddish. She hugged hands to her bosom and nodded her head. "I-I'm fine," she said. "Raphana made sure no harm came to me. The most I am is... just a little... shaken up, is all." She let out a breath, dropping her eyes to a blade of grass upon the plains. "I should've been more careful." She felt her shoulders shake. "She wouldn't be in this state if I was."

Raphana felt something cold pressed to her lips and slowly drew her eyes open again to make out what was being offered. Upon the first drop of liquid to enter her from the bottle, the Oddish lapped at the Potion slowly; each swallow renewing her vigor slowly and thoroughly.

Magnolia made eyes to the Bellsprout, concentrating on it to take her mind off her quelling panic. "Hello there," she said to Tulip. "What's your name?"

Hatch glanced over at the girl a couple times as he poured the potion carefully into the oddish. "You'll be okay," he murmured encouragingly to the little pokemon. Looking back over at the girl, he smiled lightly. "Her name is Tulip."

Tulip cocked her head, leaves fluttering excitedly at the attention. A muffled noise was made before she had to spit out the water balloon she was still holding. "Bellsprout!" she chirped out, leaves and roots wiggling.

Emptying the bottle, Hatch knelt to set the little pokemon down to look her over. He pulled out a small roll of bandages to wrap a couple spots to secure her for the trip. "This will be enough to get her to town and a pokecenter to make sure there's nothing serious."

Magnolia's lips creased into a smile as she bent at the waist to get a better look at the Pokemon. "It's nice to meet you, Tulip," she said. "I have a flower name too – my name is Magnolia." She giggled lightly at the Bellsprout fluttering her leaves in excitement; nudging knuckles to her lips to hide her chuckles. "I have a Victreebel named Aruma I would love for you to meet, but it he's a little... unruly. He still needs a little more training, aha. Maybe next time?"

Raphana let out a heavy sigh at her current state while she was patched up. "Oddi..." When she was exchanged between hands again, Magnolia cradling her gently to her chest again, she shut her eyes for rest.

"Thank you so much," Magnolia told the male. "I was lucky to have come across you. Are you a traveler as well?" She tilted her head here. "I rarely come across anyone before out and about in the wilderness unless they're exploring like I am. "

Tulip fluttered her leaves more with delight. "Bell!" It tickled her that the human had a flower name like she did! "Bellsprout!" A victreebel? She wasn't so sure about that. Unruly could really be unruly.

Hatch sighed softly, smiling warmly as Magnolia took the oddish back. "I'm glad I could help." Head cocking, he shook his head and pointed at Tulip. "I was training with her a little. I only got her a while ago. I'm working as a healer, and I'm gonna be a veterinarian, so I want to know all my pokemon will be able to work with me in different ways. ..Come on. Town is back this way."

He turned back the way he'd come. "So, you're a traveler?"

"Oh, wow!" Magnolia cried, her mouth forming into a small O. As she followed after Hatch, she said, "That's admirable! I meet all kinds of people with singular interests. I just seem to be a jack of all trades, but a master of none. My interests vary, but I would love to be a researcher." She dipped her chin to affirm his question. "Yep, I travel all over Zatao hoping to encounter legendary Pokemon. I have an interest in them and Mega Evolution, so I want to learn all I can – especially if they're linked. So far, my studies hasn't taken me far, but I'll keep striving forth."

"What brought about your interest in Pokemon health?" Magnolia asked him. "Is it just a general interest? Family business? Do you have a specialty like modern or herbal medicine? A combination of both?" Realizing she was firing off questions more readily than a gun, she added, "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to push those onto you. Still a little antsy from before."

Hatch's brow rose with surprise at the girl's reaction to his dream. It was.. kinda nice. "That sounds really cool, too. It can be nice to know a bit of everything, and that has to be good for someone traveling all around. I don't know much about legendaries or the megas myself."

The sudden rattling of questions made him laugh lightly. "It's okay. My mom is a veterinarian, and she inspired me to do it as well. I.. guess right now it's just general medicine. I know I still have a long way to go." Smile growing, he turned and stuck out his hand. "By the way, I heard you tell Tulip your name is Magnolia, right? My name's Hatch."

Tulip herself was simply running around like a ball of energy, zipping back and forth and in circles around the pair. When she heard her name and saw Hatch's arm sticking out, she darted over and scaled her trainer to wrap her roots around his upper arm and dangled there with a flutter of her leaves.

"I've gleaned a lot from books," Magnolia said, hefting up Raphana a little higher when her arms began to sag. "There's a lot of information on both, but I think it is better to make first-person studies. I could go off on a tangent about how interesting the correlation between the two is. For example–"

The fourteen year old patted around on her bag with a free hand, attempting to pull out a book she was reading before, she stopped shortly. Before she did indeed go off on a tangent, Magnolia focused her attention instead on the limb extended her way. Clasping her hand with Hatch's, she said, "Nice to meet you, future doctor! Ah–"

She retracted her hand back a bit hastily when Tulip zipped forth and wrapped herself about her trainer's, but her slight halt turned into a small fit of laughter. "She's so excited," Magnolia said.

Raphana shifted a bit up being lifted, peeking out from a flicked open lid, but she closed it again and turned inward toward the warmth of her trainer's chest to sleep deeper.

"Can't beat real experience," he agreed with a little nod.

Future doctor?! The greeting made his heart flutter with delight as she acknowledged his dream, only to yelp a little when Tulip startled the girl. He sighed and shook his head. "She's something..," he mused with affection. He reached to tug her off of his arm, but she clutched stubbornly. After a minute of tug-o-war, he sighed and let his arm drop back to his side with the bellsprout still attached. "We should get going though. I'll feel better when your oddish gets looked at by the clinic. What did you say her name is? Raphie?"

Magnolia tilted her head, watching the odd interaction with a look of amusement, before nodding her head. Getting her Oddish to a clinic should've been their main concentration now. As she hustled her steps, slipping into the desire to run though she kept pace with Hatch, she said, "You're right, we should get her to a clinic and quick. Her name's Raphana, though Raphie is pretty close." The Oddish was softly asleep and, while Magnolia did not want to raise any red flags because she was at rest, she was still concerned over her Pokemon's well-being.

With their focus returned to getting to the clinic, Hatch made sure they were taking the quickest way back to town. "Raphana? Oh, I was close! That's a nice name~" He looked at the exhausted oddish and gave Magnolia an encouraging smile. "Don't worry. We'll get her there, and she'll be back to her old self in no time!"

When they finally broke through the tree line, the town sat right ahead. Good! He could see the roof of the clinic from the edge of town, but it was still a good distance away, and a little head's up was always helpful. "Tulip?" He raised his arm, the bellsprout giving him a curious look. "You run on ahead to the clinic, would you? Let them know we're coming."

"Bell!" Pleased to have a task, Tulip dropped from Hatch's arm and darted on ahead of them, weaving through the crowd with almost no effort.

The lavender-haired girl smiled. "Thanks!" she said. "She came with the nickname!"

Magnolia's eyebrows rose in surprise at the swiftness of the Grass-type's scuttling. "It seems her excitement accounts for something!" the traveler said as she quickened her steps. "Good idea sending her ahead; they'll definitely be expecting us!"

Inside the clinic, a young nurse sighed as she propped her head up while her body sagged down into her chair. It was a slow day. She was wondering why she ever came into work.
