A long stare on the screen of his phone was finally broken. Cain moved over to his dresser and sat the thing down, a turn and then he turned back. After a dramatic sigh into the empty room a tanned finger pressed the send button, delivering this message to one Gretchen Howard;

< If you're up for it today, I'm in B41. - Cain. >

It was short and sweet and yet had taken nearly two and a half hours of his morning to think of and then send. Why? Not because he was nervous, he didn't get nervous, but he was getting slightly stir crazy having absolutely no acquaintances he could stand to talk to here. Gretchen, if a handicap, was fairly tolerable so far, maybe that was why he taken special care in trying to sound inviting. Or maybe it was because his nerves were still a little rattled from meeting Ever.

Once the deed was done he glanced around the still mostly bare room. Then moved to arrange his drawings on his dresser to keep busy, filing them away in three stacks and setting his art case in the center. A step back and his ocd was satisfied at least until he turned around to look at the plush purple comforter on his bed. A fix of the sheets, a fluff of the pillows that held strawberries on them with rilakkuma bear, the same bear he had two cases of figurines of under his bed and he nodded. Everything was in place.

Though, he stared at the bear and glanced to the door. "Hm.." A second later and the pillow cases were folded and neatly hidden away under the bed Cain now set on. Instead of violet eyes today Cain was wearing slender square yellow glasses and with them his true eye color of light blue grey revealed.

Gretch wasn't sure if the invitation had taken longer than expected, or sooner. Either way it was amusing. She grinned down at her phone for a moment before rolling up to sit on the edge of her bed. Her prosthetic fit like a glove, and with practiced ease she secured it. Months on the island, and the poor thing was showing the abuse. Dings and scratches decorated the post, but she'd hide them behind the purple lattice work of one of her fairings.

A pause at the mirror so she could pull long hair back into a ponytail, then she was heading out and down the hall. Cain's room wasn't far. She watched the number plates on the wall as she walked until she reached 41, then stopped and offered a quick knock.

Since her leg was the topic of interest today she'd kept her shorts from early and paired them with a soft sandy brown hoodie. Despite the weather on the island, the basemebt could get a little chilly at times.

A moment after the knock and he was pulling the door open, tanned hands smoothing down the crisp white button up he was wearing. A push at the center of his glasses and he invited her inside with a wave, "uh, come in." Though it was clearly a stress if tone gave him away, he was trying though. A look around the room and he shut the door after she entered, moving to sit on the only chair in the room by his small desk. "..So." His eyes traveled to the leg much more interested in it than making small talk, "have you always been a handicap?"

Gretch took a seat on the edge of Cain's bed, since the Life himself had taken the only available chair. He was very direct. A little small talk have been expected, but Cain dove right in. "Not wastin' any time, eh?" She couldn't decide being referred to as a handicap was insulting or just accurate, so she let it go for now.

"No. I was born with all my limbs very much in tact." Chuckling, she lay her hands on the bed beside her thighs, feet kicking gently back and forth. "When I was younger I got in a car accident with my mom. Always wear your seat belt," she cautioned, laughing lightly under her breath.

At the comment he grinned a little moving a hand through his hair with a shrug. "Why beat around the bush, we both knew what this was for." And they did, so why waste time. That was the problem these days, everyone wasted time on small talk and pleasantries when they could have things done twice as fast without it. Besides she obviously wasn't dead, and ask of health otherwise didn't really concern Cain nor what she had been up to. It simply wasn't his businesses.

"It must have been hard to adjust then, if you were born with both legs." He commented thoughtfully as she chuckled the reply. Wondering soon after is she ever still had ghost sensations of the limb or if that had gone away with time, she did say it happened young. The back and forth motion was noted, it looked fluid oddly enough he had expected it not to be. But legs were still none the more attractive to him.

Standing up he moved closer to the bed and rose a brow, "can I touch it?" Blue/grey eyes flickered up to the girls curious.

"You make this all seem so nefarious," she mused, watching him curiously as he ran fingers through his hair. Unless she was very much mistaken--which could be, they had been under attack at the time--his eyes had not been that color when she'd first met him. Noting the glasses, she assumed the violet color was probably contact lenses.

The idle little kicks continued, a soft smile playing on her lips. "It was. There was a long recovery period before I could even start therapy, and then that whole thing. Took years for it to feel natural again, walking." She did get the odd phantom sensations. Even this long after, it was still weird, but she was pretty used to them by now.

Besides, there wasn't anything she could do about them.

When he stood up she looked up at him, brows arched until he asked the question she'd seen on his face since she'd arrived. "Yeah, I don't mind."

An amused snort sounded, nefarious huh. Maybe. A roll of eyes and Cain moved to sit on the bed. Not bothering to be at a distance at first, nope, he was right in her space. And after permission was given a hand reached out to pull the leg up. "Alright." Gently taking the foot and pulling it to his lap the inspection began. Though much to his own surprise the actual make of the foot wasn't the first to be looked over, instead he focused on the drawing.

Fingers glided over the thick rubbery plastic like surface, tracing the flower with a critical eye. After a moment he spoke, "did you draw this? " Then a hand moved down to the bottom pushing and watching the man-made joints."Hm.." A lift again and his head tilted to look over the sole of the fake foot. "I bet you could do better designs here...not that anyone would see." A glance to dresser and he thought about the art pens in the large purple case a top it.

It was a little awkward, the angle her leg was in when he pulled it up, so she just turned, flopping down on the bed so he had an easier time moving her fake foot around. Arms folded behind her head, she traced the water stains on the ceiling above get before Cain's question pulled her attention back to him. "No, I'm not that good an artist. A friend did it not long before I came here."

She lifted her head enough to look at them, then hoisted herself up on her elbows. "Did you have somethin' in mind? Cause I don't really mind." She would like to know what he wanted to draw first, before she let him take marker to the foot, but she was pretty flexible with what was it was not acceptable.

"It's nice. Sunflowers are one of the few I can stand, they all attract to many bees though." Cain's nose wrinkles showing the clear distaste for bees his casual tone left out. A glance to the relaxed back woman on his bed and the lifer couldn't help but notice the clear point at which her chest was a little higher but only for a moment and nothing sexual taking place for the linger. With the question of what Cain would put on the foot the mans lips twitched and puckered to the corner in a toughtful manner.

Instead of answering though he stood up abruptly and silently heading for the dresser. Picking up a sketchbook Cain headed back over to the woman, holding it out to her with a soft sort of proud smirk. "Here, " inside the book were several sketches some chains of flowers, some animals but mostly comic book looking characters and a few realistic portraits of his family. They were well made, but then again that's what several years of art school did for mild raw talent.

"They're the best," she corrected mildly, not bothering to move now that she was comfortable. Any lingering glances from Cain went unnoticed.

She did move for the sketchbook though. Taking it, she turned on her side so she could flip through the thing. "Oh wow, Cain. These are really awesome." Flowers, still lifes, illustrations. It looked like he dabbled a bit in everything. "Oh yeah, you are more than welcome to add a doodle to the bottom of my foot, maybe something flowery, so it matches?"

The compliments gained a smug look, clearly they had fed the boys ego. As Gretchen suggested flowers to match Cain nodded, thinking then abruptly standing up. "Alright. Lets do it now. While I'm in the mood." He moved swiftly, picking up the purple art case from the dresser and taking it back to sit on the bed, A look was given to the woman, her only out offered now, "unless you have somewhere better to be fore the next hour, hour and a half?" Slender tanned fingers popped the locks on the art case and opened it. The smell of paints, markers and the like rushing out into the room to which the lifer inhaled sharply to greet. For just a moment Cain smiled, eyes sliding shut as fingers traced the pens in the case.

Gretchen shifted as Cain came to take a seat on the bed, giving him easier access to her fake foot. "Naw, I've got nowhere I'm supposed to be for a bit, have at it." She would lie back and enjoy the down time.

It was a shame she missed how reverently she treated his art case. There might have been a comment or two in order, otherwise.

Gretchen got comfortable and for a moment he moved from the bed, bringing back what looked like a wet wipe. Carefully the teen picked up the fake appendage, wiping it down to be sure it was ready for work. Imperfections wouldn't be tolerated, he hated starting on something only to find out the paper had been dirty before hand, it simply ruined it all. After clean up he dried the foot and violet eyes glanced up to Gretchen. "You should talk." The words were as casual as Cain got, it was offered to give her something besides silence. Not that it mattered to the Lifer to sit in silence and work but she was a girl.

They liked to talk right?

A snort and he started to pull out a black pen from the case, not really one to be overly colorful in his work unless asked. "Flowery right?" He asked, lifting the foot and turning it slightly for a better angle. When the pen hit the foot there was a clear concentration the dark skin boy took on, in fact if looked closely at the tip of his tongue peeked at the side of his mouth.

"Talk? Oh, hmm." Silence didn't bother Gretchen, there was usually some song or melody playing through her mind. Though she supposed laying there and humming to herself might be a smidgen rude. Or awkward. She thought about it as he adjusted her leg, head ripped to one side so she could watch. Then she had a good idea. "Pause for a sec." When he did she sat up, carefully pulling her leg out of his lap.

With practiced ease she removed the whole prosthetic from her leg, then handed it over with a grin. "There, that should be easier." He could angle anyway he wanted now.

Flopping back down, she folded her arms under her head. "So, where'd you come from before here?" He'd said talk. That meant pestering him about his life.

As Gretchen paused him Cain couldn't help but wear a slightly miffed look, but then she pulled the foot out and handed it over to him. It was a much better idea Cain would give that to her. A slight smirk and the man chuckled, "yeah, it'll work alot better. " greyblue eyes went down, they had to natural curiosity to see where the leg connected to her actual flesh was killing him.

As the woman flopped back down Cain shifted to adjust the leg for a better drawing position. Black pen sailing across the prosthetic foot with a graceful ease. Flowers started to slowly come to life across the length of the foot. When a question came Cain briefly looked up, not exactly what he meant but it was his own fault. Back to drawing he answered "..Canada..you?" His accent wasn't thick though, mostly because Cain did well to hide it.
