It had taken him a while for Briar to head out as Oort after his encounter with Scary Lady on the night that he had gotten a message about some Camelot person needing help, but it wasn't because she had told him to stay at home and it wasn't because he was a 'fraidy cat even if she did have some weird ability to stick hands in places where hands were totally not supposed to go.

Not it was because he had had other things to do - or at least that's what he'd told himself. After all he was a secret super hero, Horatio had told him so, and everyone knew that super heroes didn't get scared - it was part of the super hero code or something.

And even though he hadn't been Oort in a bit, he was being Oort today. Although to be honest Chibi Sailor Oort, aka Chibi Menshi of Keys wasn't exactly doing much.

Instead he was sitting on the top of the roundabout in the children's playground and staring at the sandpit from time to time suspiciously because there had been a monster in the sandpit once and he and the blue-haired girl who had felt kind of friendly and was apparently like him had had to fight it.

This time round however he had a branch that he'd taken from a tree so if a monster did show up in the sandpit then he'd be ready for it... Although said branch was currently sitting under his swinging feet.

Namaka had sought out the playground as a sort of haven. Too many things were happening there were too many whispers and all of it made her more nervous than usual. She'd never asked to be awakened as a magical terrorist. Though, granted, she spent the better part of her own "patrols" looking after a few stray animals and one or two runaways. The mirrorwraiths were at least good for chasing away those who would have harmed the kids she'd found.

Sighing heavily, she made a beeline for the sandbox and flopped down on the rim, slumping her body forward and letting her fingers trail idly through the sand. After a few moments, she became aware of an aura very close by. Tensing slightly, she considered getting up and heading right back the way she'd come. But no. She was tired and frankly, if she was going to be attacked, it would happen whether she moved or not. Besides, this might be someone who would be willing to talk to her. Not that she particularly wanted to talk to anyone, but still.

"You may as well come out, whoever you are," she called softly, making herself look as harmless as possible. "I'm not out to hurt anyone."

The sudden company had been unexpected - because it was kind of later for someone to be coming out to play - a choice that had been deliberate on his part.

The person that entered the playground was a woman rather than another kid - with blue hair streaks and dressed kind of weird.

It wasn't a bad weird he decided as she approached the sandpit where the monster had come from, although the edges of her drapey stuff and the ends of the big and kind of silly bow on the back of the outfit were both super tattered.

She didn't seem to have seen him and so Oort had sat quiet as he watched her hesitating over whether he should warn her over the fact that there had been a monster in the sandpit and where there was one monster then there might be others.

He had his reasons - not least because if she was anything like his Mum then she wouldn't believe him anyway. His main reason for his hesitation however was because unlike the blue haired girl who he'd helped with the monster she didn't feel very friendly in that weird way he couldn't particularly explain and the last person who he'd met who didn't feel very friendly had been Scary Lady who had done things with her hands that no hands should be able to do...

And then she'd called out to him and he couldn't let her words stand because he wasn't hiding - because he was a super hero and super heroes didn't hide. "I wasn't hiding" he called out as he jumped down from his perch atop the roundabout with all the careful dignity of his twelve years of age causing the little ring of keys at his waist to jangle. "I was here first" the words were matter of fact because well he had been in the playground first and it wasn't his fault that she hadn't seen him.

He didn't move any closer, instead remaining a little in front of the roundabout as he looked in her direction his reddish eyes wary because even though she'd said that she wasn't out to hurt anyone she still didn't feel very friendly.

He looked at her suspiciously "Are you going to do the creepy hand thing?"

The appearance of a child startled Namaka more than she was willing to show. And he was clearly a senshi. Oh, this was so many shades of Not Right! Feeling a little queasy at the thought of a little kid fighting against the things she'd heard about (but managed to quite successfully avoid thus far), she watched him carefully. She had a feeling she'd just found another person she'd be keeping an eye out for.

Hiding a slight smile at his assertion of not hiding, she instead nodded gravely, thinking he'd prefer being treated normally and not fussed over.

"So y'were, keiki. But I didn't know you were there at first, so," she shrugged a little. And while the suspicious look he was giving her actually made her feel a little better, she still found herself worrying about what might happen to him if he stayed out. Especially given the blunt question.

Blinking owlishly and not at all sure that she'd heard properly, she tried to figure out what the hell he was talking about.

"Um. What... creepy hand thing you talking about, keiki?"

The woman was right in that Oort would be prefer to be treated normally rather than fussed over and it was something that he would have told her himself - well at least he would have if mind reading was a thing that he could do.

Mind reading however was not a thing he could do, even with being a super hero and so he stayed where he was.

Her explanation kind of made sense though and she wasn't doing the 'I'm bigger than you so you have to listen to me' thing and so despite himself he found himself nodding in answer to the small shrug of the shoulders, although he wasn't sure what she meant by the 'keiki' thing.

His question about the creepy hand thing was met a blink of the eyes and she used the 'keiki' word again, whatever it was.

"The creepy hand thing" he said. "Like Scary Lady" his eyes watched her warily. "The putting the hand in the chest thing."

Then almost as an afterthought "And what's a keiki?"

Answering almost automatically while her brain was trying to figure out who Scary Lady might be, Namaka said shortly, "Means 'kid' where I come from. Thought you'd rather that than 'little guy'."

After a moment's more puzzling, she finally gave up trying to understand what he was talking about and shrugged helplessly.

"Okay, keiki. Level with me here. Who on earth is Scary Lady and what is the putting the hand in the chest thing? Y'mean like a surgeon? I honestly got no idea what you're talking about."

Purple eyes narrowed as she watched the boy, though that was the only outer sign of her agitation that she allowed to show. For all that she didn't know what he was trying to find out from her, she had a feeling deep in her guts that she wasn't going to like the answer at all once they managed to muddle through his child's way of explaining s**t.

Oort considered it, face scrunched up in thought. "I'm not a kid" he said after a few moments, the wariness slipping out of his eyes for a moment. "But I guess kid is better than little guy because I'm not a little either." He sounded very sure of that last point because he was - after all he was all of twelve. Twelve and going to be thirteen later on this year - a teenager.

The wariness slipped back into his eyes as she asked him about Scary Lady, his voice solemn as he said "Scary Lady is Scary Lady. She has a feather and scroll-y hat with a padlock." He thought about it and then added "Although she wasn't Scary Lady until she did the creepy hand trick."

The woman didn't seem to be getting it though, Oort shaking his head at her doctor question. "No. Not like a doctor" because doctors were supposed to be helpful and save lives and stuff and not put hands in places where hands were not supposed to go.

"Not like a doctor" he repeated. "She did the creepy hand trick - she put her hand in the chest." He touched his own chest for a moment before letting his hand fall away. "It was creepy."

Doing her best to smother a smile as his assertion that he wasn't, in fact, a kid, Namaka felt the very beginnings of a headache creeping up on her. As she listened to his description, she failed to place whomever this Scary Lady might be. Certainly, she didn't sound like anyone Namaka had ever seen before.

"Yes, it must've been," she replied with a tiny snort. "You've told me it was creepy about a billion times now."

The only image she could think of was that, somehow, this person was quite literally shoving her hands into people's chests without recourse to surgical equipment. Which was either some next level Mola Ram s**t going on... or magic. And given that she and this kid were both senshi, she was reluctantly betting on magic. But other than it being creepy, there wasn't a lot of information being given.

"All right. What happened when she put her hand into a chest? Y'gotta give me more to work with here, kei... what's your name, anyway?"

"I used my magic because it made Horatio all not pooped out and stuff and she said that she felt stronger and I wanted to be stronger" Oort said. "But when I used it on me it made me kind of faster instead so I tried to run."

His voice was solemn and matter of fact "I was in the woods and tried to run into them more and I didn't think that it was going to work at first, but when I stopped running Scary Lady wasn't there any more so the magic did work."

He sighed, "But I wish that it made me stronger like it did Horatio" his voice turned enthusiastic "She has a laser beam thing and everything and she's the one that told me that I was a superhero."

Well okay she'd told him that he was a senshi but he was pretty sure that she had also mentioned superheroes which meant - at least where he was concerned - that they were one and the same thing.

"And I'm Oort" he continued at her request for his name. "Horatio said that I was the Chibi Senshi of Keys, but that's kind of a mouthful so just Oort's fine or even Incredible Oort the Key Hero." He spoke the last in perfect seriousness - the sort of seriousness that only a twelve year old could muster.

Feeling a little dizzy from the casual onslaught of information, Namaka did her best to not look too dazed as the kid, Oort, told his story. It didn't quite explain the Scary Lady business and she had absolutely no idea who Horatio might be. But for now, it didn't matter.

Still, she couldn't hide the tiny quirk of a smile as he put out his preferred title with all the seriousness of a priest.

"Let's stick with Oort for now," she said drily. "Well, Oort, my name is Namaka and I'm the Dark Mirror Senshi of Sharks. Which," she added, now grinning slightly, "I think you'd have to agree is almost as much of a mouthful as Chibi Senshi of Keys."

Now she did laugh, though it was clear that her laughter was aimed at herself rather than at him.

"If you're the superhero, I guess that would make me the conflicted anti-hero in this scenario."

She wasn't expecting him to understand what she was saying, it was more for herself. Still, she watched the boy with a sharp interest, wondering how on earth key magic would work.

"It is" Oort agreed. "But Namaka's a pretty neat sounding name."

His voice turned enthusiastic as he continued with a smile of his own "And sharks are so cool." Much cooler than keys in his opinion.

Then again that might have had something to do with the way that he was picturing her magic as having something to do with magical sharks - giant ones.

Then his smile faded to a puzzled look as she called herself an anti-hero "Anti-hero?" The puzzlement was reflected in his voice as he repeated the word, "Like a not-hero?"

Weren't "not-heroes" supposed to be villains?

Because Namaka didn't seem like a villain to him.

"Well thanks, Oort. So far all my sharky powers can be is made a weird magical shark skin on me when I got to hit or kick anyone."

She caught the puzzled look and quickly moved to explain what she'd meant.

"How many comic books d'you read, Oort? There're a lot of anti-heroes in them. In stories, an anti-hero is someone who isn't that brave or good, kind of a rebel in some ways. But they still end up being a good guy of sorts. In comics, it's characters like the Punisher or sometimes Venom and Sabretooth. They aren't always good people, but somehow, they end up being heros anyway because even though they aren't trying to be good guys, they still end up saving someone."

Super simplisitic, but for now, she thought it was enough to at least relieve some of the anxiety she'd caught in Oort's eyes.

"Getting shark skin sounds pretty cool, although it would have been cooler if you could make lots and lots of magic sharks or something."

Because magical sharks would be able to handle any monsters around - at least Oort was pretty sure that they could.

"Your magic sounds a lot cooler than my magic though" because his magic was just a little key.

His reddish eyes looked thoughtful as he considered Namaka's question "I've read a few" he said. "Although not lots and lots, I've watched superhero stuff on the TV though."

He listened as she went on to explain what she'd meant by an anti-hero, the anxiety that he had not been aware that he'd been displaying and would certainly not admit to, fading as he said "So kind of like Mirage," adding in just case Namaka didn't realise who Mirage was "From the Incredibles."

Smiling a little, Namaka couldn't help but like this kid.

"Maybe someday my magic'll do that. Won't know til then, though."

She watched his face as he considered her words and gave a cautious nod at his comparison.

"Sort of like that, yeah. Except I don't work for some crazy stalker dude with an inferiority/superiority complex."

Okay, yeah. She was liking Oort. He was a bright kid and as she felt her protective instinct kick in, she decided it would be worth keeping an eye on him. And making sure that the Negaverse never got a chance to hurt him.

"Okay, kid. Your turn to tell me about yourself. How much you know about self-defense?"

Oort considered Namaka's question "Well I've fought bullies in the past" he said at last, adding "Well more like I've hit them when we got in a fight," because they'd been picking on one of his friends at the time and that just hadn't been cool "We all got in trouble when we got caught though." He'd been at school at the time and the teachers didn't like it when people were fighting...

And worse they'd gone and told his parents and so he'd gotten a long lecture from his Mum and been grounded to boot from everything except school.

He frowned slightly before admitting "I haven't really tried punching the monsters that Horatio told me that I have to look out for and fight that much though - because using a stick seems to work on them better and make them do the dust thing faster."
