She was running. Of course she was running. What else did she do anymore? The branches around her whipped at her legs and caught her hair, but Sae-Yae kept going, wincing as hair was pulled from the roots and blood dripped down her knees. She heard them. Heard their hooves and their shouts and their chants. They were behind her, always behind her. Chasing her. She'd never be safe.
She skidded to a halt as she broke the treeline and stopped in a large clearing. There was a path deeper into the forest to her right and a more open, rocky path. Where to go - where to go?! She froze there, eyes darting between the two choices as she steadily grew more and more panicked. Her wings twitched nervously as she gulped in air. Right or left? Left or right? The more open path meant that they would be able to see her more easily. The dark forest path meant more obstacles for her, but maybe she could transform there and hide until morning? Yes, yes that was it, she'd go further into the woods.
She'd spent enough time mulling over the choice, so she wasted no more and started sprinting full force towards the entrance to the wooded path. But her progress was halted when a heavy body rammed into her side and sent her tumbling to the ground. She wheezed, the breath knocked out of her, and looked up to see the horrifyingly familiar mask of the priests staring down at her.
"No no no no," she cried. "Please don't take me back, please!"

He had been on her trail for a while now, following the other clan hunters that had pursued her after the ritual failed. They had lost her scent for a bit, before picking it up on the wind tonight while scouting in the forest. Sae-Yae was fast, but he was faster. He broke from the group without them noticing, his powerful body crashing through the branches as his paws beat a steady rhythm against the soil. He heard her just ahead, saw the beautiful crimson glow of her wings as she stopped and stood in the middle of the clearing. Why had she stopped? He looked around for a threat, but there was nothing but the angry mob behind them. He stepped forward to confront her when she took off out of nowhere. No she wasn't getting away, he had just gotten her into his sights!
He pushed forward, running and knocking into her with perhaps a little more force than was necessary. He stood panting above her as she begged him not to take her back. It was dark, so he'd forgive her for not recognizing him. He flipped his head back and the cloth disguising his face curled up and over his head to lay against his mane.
"Sae-Yae, it's me! Hurry, we must go, they are not far behind," he hissed, looking over his shoulder as the chanting grew closer.

Sae-Yae gaped up at the face of her lover. "Kuro... Kurosawa?" she breathed, heaving herself up onto unsteady hooves. She stumbled into his side and leaned her face up against his chest. Felt his thundering heartbeat. He was real. He was there. "What are you doing here? They'll kill you if they find out you helped me," she hissed, backing away from him. "You need to leave or else we'll both die,"

Kurosawa huffed angrily as she stubbornly backed away from him. "We don't have time for this!" he exclaimed, crowding back into her personal space and giving her his best serious glare. "Transform and get on my back. It'll be faster," He turned towards the entrance to the forest and looked over his shoulder at her with a pointed stare. "Now, Sae-Yae! I'm not leaving you to fend for yourself. We're getting out of here together,"

Sae-Yae's glowing eyes were misting over with tears and her heart seemed to be lodged in her throat. "Kurosawa..." she murmured. Never had she loved someone so much. This stallion was... everything to her. Which was one of the reasons she had denied any involvement with him and ran away. So he would not end up getting killed with her. But instead, he had followed her. She sniffed, shaking away stray tears. "Okay," Gathering up the remaining energy she possessed after the chase, she willed her body to transform. A crimson glow started in her wings and expanded outward, until she was completely covered. Slowly, her form shrank down to the size of a large butterfly. Her large crimson wings fluttered as she drifted up and sat upon her lover's shoulder, tucking herself safely into his hair. "I'm ready,"
