It wasn't often that he was given leave to explore the forests around his temporary home. But he had Tweet and some of the others from the household were with him, though he'd long since lost them in the undergrowth. Humming to himself the young matori squatted to watch a trail of ants as they marched along single file up the side of a tree. His bright eyes followed the trail up, and then down until he could no longer make out where they can from or where they were going. He thought the ants were strong, able to carry things that were larger than they were and most likely also heavier.
He laughed, thinking about what it would look like if he were able to do something like that. Of a tiny matori toting around a Radaku or an adult Oban! He started to laugh harder at the mental image, knowing that most of the male Oban's he'd met were very very overweight.
It took him a while to calm down, to wipe away the tears from his face, cheeks hurting from smiling so much. He hadn't felt that happy in a while, he realized, busy as he'd been helping out his parents. He hadn't even had much time to play with his new friends and he wondered what they had been getting up to in his absence.
Humming a little made up tune Virain stood and brushed off his knees, picked a direction and headed off; not knowing that he was heading deeper into the forest without much of anything to protect himself with, should he run into trouble.

Since her mother had yet to make it to the mainland V'demhe was left to look around Jauhar on her own. It was up to her to find a decent place for them to settle in. Though she wasn't exactly sure where her elderly mother would be more comfortable. So she had decided to look around the whole of Jauhar. Now she was in the southern area, her adolescent radaku trotting along beside her. His blue color caught the glow of the mushrooms and made him look ethereal, something Dem seemed to love. With one hand she reached out and gently stroked down his back. "Such a good boy, Maha." Her tone was affectionate when she spoke to him. The beast was pleased with the acknowledgment and started to strut rather than trot and it made the alkidike laugh. Her laughter seemed to die down as she noticed that Maha was sniffing the air as if he had caught wind of something strange. As he moved to track it down, Dem followed. There was no way she would let her familiar get into anything on his own, he had yet to make it to adulthood. The two crashed through the forest until finally the radaku stopped and stared. He had found... a child. V'demhe paused and looked at the matori child oddly before she turned her head this way and that looking for someone else that would be watching them. She saw no one. "Strange."

He urged Tweet to go hide in the trees, his little yellow and green body doing an abysmal job at hiding in the leaves. Virain didn't have a chance to scold him when the crashing sounds, distant at first, became louder and louder until the creature burst through the foliage to stand far too close to the youngling for his comfort. His heart was lodged in his throat as he stared wide eyed at the radaku.
It was smaller than the adults he'd seen, but it wasn't small enough to be a puppy. It didn't look wild, but he'd also never seen a wild one before. He felt frozen in place, wanting to go and hide but knowing that moving would only make it pounce. He didn't want to get eaten but he couldn't just move and-
More movement as a tall figure broke through, only a few moments behind the radaku. It was a woman, young, with light yellow skin that faded to a light green at her hands and her eyes.... They were a solid black. He gulped, A-Alkidike? He knew only people who were Alkidikes had those funny things on their heads, or were hybrids with their blood in them. He shook silently in place, breath coming out in tiny hitches, too afraid to even wrap his arms around himself.

She took note of how the youngling acted. He was afraid. It took her a solid moment of staring at him before she realized why. With a twitch of her antennae she took a step closer to the child then knelt down so that she wasn't quiet so tall. "Are you alright? It's not safe for little ones out here." Ironic that she was saying such a thing when she, too, had gone exploring the forests when she was his age. The thought made her smile. When she thought about something else she looked back at Maha and gave a small whistling noise. He reacted by sitting down and tilting his head to the side innocently. Giving the child her attention once again Dem would motion toward the radaku. "He gets hyper sometimes, but he's a big goof. His name is Maha and he won't hurt you." Hopefully that would put the youngling at ease.

"M-Maha..." Virain stuttered, shaking a bit harder as the radaku settled down, sitting with an ease that told Virain of how much easier it would be for the creature to jump back up. He licked his lips and tilted his head back to look at her. Even kneeling down she was still taller than he was, though thankfully not as much as she had been standing. "M-my pap-papas name is Taha." He said, voice breaking a bit and he cringed, waiting for something to happen but not knowing what.
Above them Tweet fluffed up his feathers and jumped, wings snapping out to slow his fall. He landed on the radaku and immediately launching into full scolding mode complete with irritated wing flapping that did nothing to disguise the fact that the tiny kinfa was really just trying to not slide right off the horned creatures back.

His stutter was kind of cute but it made her wonder if he was still scared. She furrowed her brow a bit but didn't seem upset. Instead she turned to smiling once more as he mentioned the name of his father. "That's a nice name. Mine is V'demhe." The alkidike was hoping that if she introduced herself then he would relax a little. It bothered her a little that he could possibly be afraid of her or her familiar. After a small pause she shifted so that she was sitting on the ground, making her even shorter. "Do you know how to whistle?" If he did then she would teach him the pitch needed to get Maha to come to him. Maha gave a snort when the bird landed on him and tried to stay perched. Turning his head he tried to look at the feathery thing, though it looked rather funny to see. The radaku would lose his balance and flop over in a heap of flailing legs.

"V'demhe," Virain echoed, eyebrows drawing together as he sounded it out. It was a nice name. A different name. Something that fit the stranger in front of him. Well, not a stranger anymore since he now knew who she was. "I'm Virain," He replied, relaxing slowly. It was apparent that she wasn't going to try to do anything strange to him, or to steal him away. Slavery wasn't allowed anymore but she wasn't an Oban and he didn't know how she thought, or what her culture was like.
For all he knew her people liked to eat younglings. But that thought was silly as the general thought in the places he'd been in, was that younglings were things to be treasured. Or valued really, as they would be one more working body when they got older.
"I do, I talk to Tweet like that sometimes." He said, voice shy as he lowered his eyes. His Mamae taught him when Tweet was a tiny thing, even smaller than he was now, and covered in soft white fluffy feathers. She taught him how to feed him and take care of him and it would help if he could twitter at the baby like a mama bird would. He didn't realize it when he stopped shaking, only that he no longer felt as scared of her as he had only moment prior.
Tweet, determined though he was to stay up, lost the fight when Maha fell over. Peeping the kinfa struggled to get out from under the others larger mass, and with an exasperated sound, finally managed. He continued to chide the other even as he attempted to straighten out his feathers.

The commotion of her familiar falling over made her look at the radaku with a dead stare. How had she gone so wrong in raising him? With a shake of her head she'd focus her attention back on the youngling. A smile took shape as she learned his name. Her smile broke out into a full blown grin when he said he knew how to whistle. "Good. I'll teach you a call that will make Maha come to you." She made the sound, forcing air past her teeth and lips in a shrill call. While she wasn't that far from the radaku he responded. Maha, who had been trying to sniff at the bird that had used him as a perch, heard his owner call for him and his ears perked up. Again with flailing legs he got to his feet and moved over to Dem so that he was right up against her then sat down and laid his head on her shoulder so that he could stare at her. V'demhe gave a playful roll of her eyes at his behavior then looked Virain. "See. He's a big cuddle butt." When Maha licked her cheek she'd wrinkle her nose and swat at him. "It wasn't a compliment, Maha."

Pursing his lips Virain attempted to mimic the whistle, and fell spectacularly flat for his effort. Tweet though paused his in his chiding to let out a series of warbles that resembled musical scales. He hopped over to the trio to settle on V'damhe's knee, head tilted this way and that as he regarded her. He let out another burst of sound and fell silent again.
Lips pressed thin Virain tried again, only to fall short as he note petered out. "Can you show me again?" He asked, determined to get the sound right. It should be easy to mimic the sound, he had the ear for it, or so his Mamae said. It really shouldn't be too hard to learn, right?

She watched as the youngling tried and failed to make the sound, but what he did make seemed to cause Maha to tilt his head oddly at the boy. Dem gave a small chuckle, expecting the boy to try again, but the next noise she heard from from the kinfa that decided she was a safer perch than the radaku. V'demhe smiled at the bird. "Well hello there." The bird being on Dem's knee made Maha somewhat jealous and he put a paw on her lap as he slowly leaned that way. He was hoping to be sneaky and lay on her before anyone knew what he was doing. As Virain asked her to show him the whistle again she nodded her head and gave a quick shrilling call. Since Maha was already near her he got somewhat confused by the sound. So rather than get up and get closer he lifted his snout right up to her ear and nuzzled in, sniffing and puffing. "Ah, come on Maha, that's my ear." The alkidike pulled away and reached up to wiggle a finger in her ear to help get rid of the wet nose feeling.

Virain muffled his laughter by stuffing his fist between his teeth, though he couldn't hide the way his eyes crinkled up nor the mirth that shone in them when he saw the radaku shove his nose into her ear. Tweet hopped over to Maha's paw and put one foot on top of it, as if saying 'Is this the right way to do it?'
"He really is silly." Virain commented once he got his mirth under control, "Silly silly radaku." Carefully he sat down, not wanting to sit on something sharp or gods help him, an ant hill. It would be painful and embarrassing and he'd rather not have V'demhe see him like that. He didn't even want his Mamae to see him like that! He'd never hear the end of it....
Humming to himself the youngling wet his lips and prepared for another round of whistling. It took him a few more tries before he got it right, each failed attempt having a staccato echo as Tweet chimed in.

Her long ears picked up on the muffled laughter and she eyed the younging a bit. "Oh ho~ You dare to laugh at a great amazon do you?" V'demhe did her best to make her voice dip low so that she could mimic a serious tone. One brow lifted upward and she leaned toward Virain slowly. She made it comical before she reached out with one hand and gently poked the boy in the side. "Feel the wrath of the alkidike." Unable to keep her serious tone she laughed. At least the child was relaxing a bit more now. She didn't like that he had been afraid, though she couldn't blame him. The rumors surrounding her race didn't help either. As Virain made whistling sounds, Maha tilted his head and gave some small chorus of his own. It sounded like a drowning cat, but he did his best. Finally, when he heard the right tone, the radaku did an army crawl to cover the space between him and boy then started to lick at Virain's toes.

He was glad that he'd been able to hold back the squeaks that had threatened to spill from his lips as V'demhe poked at him. There had been a moment where a chill had raced down his spine from her tone, but everything else about her had been playful enough for him to relax and take it as the teasing it was supposed to be. Maybe..maybe everything he'd heard about the Alkidikes had been wrong. He hoped so, he was starting to really like her.
It was amusing to hear Maha join in on the singing, even if his attempts hurt his ears. Tweet had moved back to his previous perch and mimicked the series of whistles that called Maha. Virain was sure that the radaku was too busy trying to melt his toes off with his slobber. "Noooo!" He yelped, doing his best to push away the questing head with it's too long tongue. He curled his toes and attempted to hide them behind his knees, which left his legs open for a slobbery attack.
He couldn't hide the laughter that spilled from his lips, or the way the smile on his face refused to go away.

Seeing the play that Maha did with the boy made her smiled. It was good to know she at least had instilled in the radaku a gentleness. Maha followed the toes as the boy tried to pull them away and once they were hidden he lifted up so that he could try to lick the boy's face. The laughter egged him on. Dem gave a chuckle of her own before she snapped her fingers. "Easy, Maha, he's still little." The familiar trained his ears back toward his owner and rather than continue to lick he laid beside Virain as calmly as he could. V'demhe kept an eye on her pet for a moment before she grinned at the boy. "See, now you know how to call him." She wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing in the long run but she tried not to think about it. Turning her head to look around the surrounding area she had to wonder again why the child was out and about all alone. "Say, Virain.. where are your parents?" Had he wandered off from them?

Still giggling Virain flopped over so that he could curl around Maha's head, hands eagerly stroking the radaku's head and neck, giving gentle scritches around the base of his horns. "Mmm yeah! If I ever see him again I'll call him over for some horn scritches." He commented, "He's very gentle now that I know he wont eat me."
He hummed at her question, glancing up towards the canopy though he couldn't really see the sky. He was sure he had time left before he had to head back. He really hadn't gone too far into the forest...
"Mamae and Papa are in town. I got permission to come into the forest with the adults but, well...they were slow." He looked guilty, " I just wanted to explore a bit and I lost them. I promise I wasn't going to go too far in by myself!" He sat up and looked at her with earnest eyes, his lower lip between his teeth and he worried at it.
