A huff came from Ming'we as she reached up with one hand and rubbed at her shoulder. The muscle there was tense and sore. She'd spent half the day practicing her aim so that she could be more accurate when the time came for her to finally choose her class. It was well known that her mother wanted her to follow the Alkidike path, but she was more interested in the earthling classes. Something that would keep her closer to the mother that died. She walked slowly, enjoying the fresh air, and made sure she avoided any particularly mean looking Alkidikes since she was a half breed. Not that it helped much. There were a few who still gave her nasty looks. Ming did what she could to ignore them, repeating in her mind that it was just their upbringing and not their fault. She refused to believe that the race as a whole was mean spirited simply because they wanted to be.

Ilyra was shooting, improving her aim. She had been using the bow since she was a child, but she knew that with practice every skill could become better.
She had gotten berries and made a target on one of the larger trees. Her goal was to hit the middle of it, and although there was a good about of times that she did hit it there were more then she cared for that she didn't.
However as focused as she was her antennae picked up movement. "Who goes there." she said as she released another arrow towards the tree. Thankfully it hit the middle, hopefully scaring whoever it was if they meant her harm.
Heras Box I'm assuming they are in the forests, if not I'll change this.

THUD. Ming'we paused and looked directly in front of her. She wasn't close enough to be hit by the arrow if it had gone off course, but she was still well within shooting range of the person that held the bow. With a "Who goes there" tossed her way she turned her head and looked. What surprised her was the color of the alkidike that she saw. Was she a mix breed as well or was it an abnormality? Ming shuffled so that she was better seen and not hiding behind any foliage, though it made her tremble a bit since she had no weapon to defend herself with it if came to that. "Just passing through.." She brought her hands up to show she had nothing threatening.

Ilyra smiled at seeing the other girl, the sister. She knew at once that either she wasn't the only albino or that this girl was a halfling, but neither one bothered her. "I'm sorry sister, I didn't mean to scare you. You can't be too careful now a days." she laughed and put away the bow, moving to collect her arrows from the tree.
"My name's Ilyra. I don't think we've met before sister?" she asked was she collected the arrows. Although it was possible, she didn't think it very likely that they had met before. She would have remembered someone who looked so much like her.

Sister. That word caught her off guard. No alkidike called her that. At least, she couldn't remember one doing so. Then again the tall female race was scarce in Sauti, where she had grown up. Now that she lived in Jahaur she would have to get used to things. "Name's Ming'we, and no we've never met. I recently moved here from Sauti with my family." Her dark blue eyes watched as Ilyra moved to collect the arrows from the tree. Seeing that there were some that hadn't hit the target she moved to collect them for the alkidike.

"Sauti? Been there once. I was traveling to find my girlfriend and bring her back home. Everyone seemed pretty nice there." she said with a nod of her head. She had gathered the arrows that were in the tree and looked up to see Ming'we helping her collect the rest.
"If I can ask, what brought your family here? Sadly being an alkidike in these parts isn't the best thing at the moment." she frowned slightly, thinking about the fight she had in the marketplace. It could be dangerous, especially for this girl that like her looked different from normal alkidike's but still looked like an alkidike. That meant both sides could possibly turn against her.

She grinned and nodded her head. "People are nice there." Ming'we remembered the fun she'd had as a child running around in Sauti. Even when she and her twin brother had caused trouble, the adults would only shake their heads but laugh and send them home to their mothers. It made her long to go back. When Ilyra asked her what made her family move here she went still. Clutching the small collection of arrows to her chest she looked down at the ground, even her antennae seemed to wilt a bit. "My wind mother passed away." It took a moment for her to return the arrows to the oddly colored alkidike, but she did so and offered a smile. "Don't worry, I've already encountered the troubles that are to be had here."

Ah so this girl was a halfling. She had assumed so when the girl said she had come from Sauti, but she wasn't sure. For all she knew the girls family could have moved there just to get her away from others since she looked different.
"I am sorry for you loss, and for the trouble that you have faced. Sadly those that look like like you and I aren't treated as fairly as we ought to be. Hopefully that will stop sooner rather then later. And thank you." she took the arrows from the other girl.

Ming'we gave a nod of thanks. What else was she supposed to do? Break down and cry all over again or blame this girl for what happened? No. While the wound of losing a mother was still there, she could not let it fester. Deciding a change of subject was in store she pointed to the arrows. "I see you shoot. Are you taking a traditional path or an earthiling one?" Ming would be lieing if she said she wasn't curious. The blonde wanted to know if there was someone else like her that wasn't following the Alkidike traditions.

Ilyra shook her head. "Unlike you I'm not able to pick a bath other then those that are set for us. I have some talent in magic, but I'm no mystic. My mother was an alkidike. I just... I was just born differently. So yes, I've already reached blade as an alkidike. I'm hoping to improve and become a warrior soon." she hoped it was soon, though there was never anyway of knowing.
"And yourself? Having mixed background has the advantage of being able to do whatever you'd like." something she was jealous of sometimes, but over all she loved following the path that others before her had set.

Ah, so she had no choice in the matter. What would she have done if she had been left no choice? Ming'we wasn't so sure. Still, with a nod she acknowledged the words spoken. "I hope you can become a warrior soon, then. It looks like you have good aim." Seeing Ilyra reach her goal would be nice. When she was asked about what she was going to choose she gave a soft laugh and reached up to rub the back of her neck. "I am going to follow an earthling path. I want to become a sniper." Of course it wasn't a popular choice among her family.

"Thank you. My mother always says that practice makes perfect. Plus I've already learned that when you look different you have to work twice as hard to be accepted." she shrugged off the statement, not letting it bother her as much as it once did.
"Sniper." she looked off in the distance for a second, trying to remember if she had ever met a sniper before. "They use a different kind of bow right?" for the life of her she couldn't remember what it was called though. She had seen it only once before, when she was a youngling, and always was mystified with the thing.

Working twice as hard wasn't something she was so used to now. In her old home she had made friends and had been accepted by the people around her. So now she was having to go through the process all over again. She had hope though, hope that she could do it. Smiling at Ilyra, a pair of dimples would show in her cheeks. "Yes. A crossbow. It doesn't require the user to pull back the string and hold it." Though she would have to load the weapon; which did require her to pull the string back. She moved her hands, trying her best to illustrate the way the crossbow worked. "When you put the arrow into place you pull the string back and it catches on a small notch. When you are ready to fire the arrow you press a trigger and it releases the string." She hoped she was making sense. Then again, Ming wasn't all that good at explaining things.

"Ah crossbow! I had it on the tip of my tongue!" she laughed. As she watched Ming'we explain the weapon she saw the appeal in it. "It probably shoots faster, though I feel like reloading it might take a little longer. The speed at which the arrows are shot is fast, I would think. It would also let you save up some strength right? Since pulling the string back is what really takes strength."
She thought about the weapon over in her head, but decided that the traditional bow and arrow was better for her. "Do you have a teacher yet?" she asked curiously. She couldn't help the girl find one since she didn't know any herself, but perhaps she could keep her ears open.

She nodded in agreement. "It takes a bit longer to load." Ming'we could recall the time it took for the crossbow to be reloaded. Of course she'd never held one, she was just a youngling when she'd seen it. "But the power behind the arrow is a bit better." Unless of course the person using a bow was pulling the string back so far that it was about to snap. Then they might have more power. When she was asked if she had a teacher yet she shook her head. "No, not yet. I don't think I am likely to find one here."
