It had been some time since he let the comforts of Althalus' family herd, while it had taken some time for his heart to get used to the idea of a reset....it had to be done. He couldn't hole himself up beside his best of friend for the rest of his life (despite how easy it would be, he was his best friend afterall), they were adults, and Alth had his life and his family. Aiolos had his own family, while not one by his own creation he too needed to set off once more. He'd bid goodbye with a promise to come back and visit as soon as he returned to those familiar lands, and with that returned to the untraveled path.

He'd paid a quick visit to those he could easily find, Zevach who never strayed far from his training grounds near the home him and Zari made for themselves, and of course Twilight. He'd asked about his sisters, but it seemed they'd been out for a while. Perhaps he'd catch them next time he was around. It had been nice talking to the aging stallion, his mental state so much healthier than it had ever been growing up. It had been Twilight who inspired his youngest son to head off once more into the unknown, that fresh wonders beyond his prior reaches could refresh his mind and his heart.

So....that's exactly what he did.

He'd headed off towards the west, with promises of new lands beyond the pass. Most of his life had been spent in the east, heading north to the mountains where his father had headed...and past to the desert. However Twilight had mentioned he'd never been further east, something he'd one day like to accomplish if he could convince Cosette. Perfect opportunity for someone who didn't have obligations for family, young enough to make it there in no time at all.

Someone like Aiolos.

Already a days walk from the pass itself, Aiolos had settled for a rather secluded and magical stream in the morning. He'd slept not far away, and as he looked around between drinks from the crisp spring the aging stallion could not believe the splendor around him. From the heavy moss which crawled from the bases of trees onto the rocks; the trickling stream, spring flowers and of course the sun shining down from amidst the canopy of leaves above....it was breath taking. "I missed this..." He breathed to himself, it had been so long since he'd traveled, without a set destination. His soul called to the proverbial road, and although he was getting a little too old for running and sprinting he did constantly in his youth.

Yet that didn't mean he wasn't old enough, and prime enough to take a trip at a more comfortable and casual place. At least now, he could stop and smell the flowers he never was able to slow down to observe before.

Shamsiel could smell water on the air. Amid the pollen of new flowers and the earthy scent of the moss and trees around her, there was a sweet scent of cool water which tickled Shamsiel's nose. The mare was not terribly far from where her family resided, but the land was not familiar to her. She had never been a particularly adventurous mare, but recently, with spring on the air, she had taken to roaming. She never went further than a few hours out from the borders, but it made her feel braver, made her feel bolder, and right now, she needed to feel that.

Lately, the blond maned mare had found herself restless and unsure about her place in the world. She came from a very extensive family, and many within it had known reputations. Some were great warriors, others guardians; some had large families, while others roamed without worry or fear. In her immediate family, her sister Terentia was a valiant warrior. Her white coated, black eyed sister was known to go out in to the world to slay evil, and do good. Terentia seemed absolutely fearless to Shamsiel, and the grey mare couldn't help but admire her sister. Sometimes she was envious at her sister's accomplishments; though they didn't often cross paths, the story that Terentia brought with her were amazing. Shamsiel couldn't help but sometimes feel envious at how easy her sister made everthing to be . . . She was, in the grey mare's views, perfect.

Terentia had it all -- she was as beautiful as she was strong. She had no fear, and even though she had lost her lifemate, nothing seemed to bring her down. It was always onwards and upwards with the mare, where Shamsiel felt as if her life was stagnant. Unlike Terentia, and others in her family, her life was . . . simple. Quiet. She had no friends, she was not strong, she was not pretty, and she was not brave. So, with spring in the air, Shamsiel had told herself that she would try to make a change. Even if that change was nothing more than taking a few steps outside of her family's lands, or her comfort zone, she wanted to try to be stronger, braver, or a little more knowledgeable.

Today was no exception. She had gone farther out than she had ever before, but she was feeling a little braver. This area was relatively safe, and Terentia's last visit had ensured that no stone had been left unturned So it was, lured over to the stream by promise of good drink, Shamsiel could not know that Aiolos was near. Unaware of the navy blue stallion, the mare gave her wings a good stretch, before lowering her head to drink.

Just finishing his umpteenth time admiring the scenery around him the stallion lowered his head for a much needed drink, tasting the crisp waters once more traveling down his throat. In his mind he slowly replayed the path he was going to take, through the pass, across the western meadow and forest, he'd heard something of a hotspring that was a local commodity. While he'd jumped off various cliffs into deep waters in his youth, even splashed around in the ocean...he can say he'd never seen bubbling hot water before. It was worth a look at any rate. Then a swamp, much like the one to the east but not riddled with the fears of that cursed graveyard - home of the birth of walkers. Then of course, what he had been most excited to hear from his conversaion with another traveler...promise of a jungle.

Aiolos had never been to a jungle before, and although the traveler had not been there personally it was on the list. It would be at any rate a much better trip than the one back to their first home; way up in the mountains where snow and ice stung at his pelt. Spring was slowly weaning into summer and so the trip would hold promise of warmth and well - relaxation.

A true vacation from his troubles and worries.

Yet....maybe some worries would still remain as his ears flicked to a sound not too far off, lifting and turning his head as he peered around a bush slightly blocking his view of the bank father up.

And his breath caught.

He couldn't quite believe what he was seeing, he'd remembered painfully the face of a demon; the kalona mare who held the horn of a unicorn. The one responsible for an ugly looking scar on his hip and memories he tried to forget about the fear...the fear he'd broken a leg trying to get away from her. Thankfully luck was on his side that day to spare him his life and his legs, but still...He'd never seen an angel before. Thanks to his brother he'd seen Wind's before....but nothing like this. Two sets of grand and heavenly feathers...was one of them translucent or was he seeing things? No matter, he felt himself swallow hard, instantly wanting to speak to the maiden from the heavens but he'd probably be bothering her to no end. With a sigh he went to walk another direction away incase he scared her....but then felt a nagging in his head.

This whole trip was supposed to take him out of his ordinary, take chances, see new things. Well - there was one right in front of him and he was walking away?

Ah, damn. He groaned in resolution, turning around and walking past the bush he'd been hidden behind. Hopefully he wasn't interrupting her.

"Excuse me?" He called out, keeping his distance out of politeness. "I'm sorry, you probably hear this all the time....are you an Angel?" Aiolos smiled slightly. "I've never seen someone as pretty - Ah!" He choked, feeling heat on his face. "No. I mean, your wings and being an angel...I'd imagine angels are pretty in general...n-not that you aren't! I've met demons but I've never seen angels before....." Aio sighed deeply, his ears pinned back as he hung his head slightly. "I swear I'm not a creep I'm just....bad with girls apparently. Very sorry to bother you like this."

The mare had not expected company this far out, but she also wasn't terribly surprised. She was near water, after all, and such a place often brought those who were parched of throat or in need of cleansing. One didn't stay near the waters edge when they wanted to be alone, after all. Still, the stallion had come out of the thicker brush a way down, but he didn't seem aggressive at all! There were no horns, no kalona features, no pelt . . . While one could never judge a book by its cover, at the very least, this blue coated stallion didn't cause Shamsiel too much alarm.

Whoever he was he seemed kind. Just one look at his rich blue colors, and the curved markings along his back confirmed that this was no neighbor, nor of her family. No, whoever this was, he was quite indeed a stranger. Unfortunately, if she had expected any sort of greeting, it was not the one he gave! Her? An angel? More surprising than that: pretty? Was he truly speaking to her!?

Shamsiel felt her head wings flare in her surprise, and she felt the tip of her nose flush pink. Thankfully, the stallion seemed just as surprised -- or at least flustered -- over his own words, so she hoped he wouldn't notice her uncertainty. "No, no," she quickly tried to assure. "It's okay, it's all right. I just . . . have never been called that before." She'd leave it to him to decide what surprised her most, and quickly carried on. "I mean, I'm not really an angel, not . . . not really. My mother is close to being one, but my father is an alicorn." She'd leave off the fact he sported the most unusual set of head wings she'd ever seen. "I'm . . . Well, I'm not nearly that important, I'm afraid!" She gave a warm laugh to dismiss her self-deprecating words, and quickly tried to take the conversation away from her, or her looks.

If this stranger thought she pretty, or an angel, then it was clear he'd never met others in her family. Her sisters Neria and Roxanne were far more delicate, and Terentia had always been known to be a great beauty. Shamsiel was . . . . just Shamsiel. Heavy of bone and plain of face, with hair akin (in her opinion) to straw. Surely, the allure of her dual wings would soon fade.

"But thank you for your kind words, truly. I've never met a demon before,. . not one that I remember, anyway, but my sister goes out of her way to fight them!" Terentia always made a good conversation starter. . . or at least made good conversation, period. Not that Shamsiel minded -- if she lived as epically as her sister, then maybe people would want to talk about her, too.

Aiolos felt himself cringe a bit as he cursed himself, he had been so used to the comfort of familiar faces that he couldn't believe his words had failed him at such a crucial time. He supposed it had something to do with his nervousness around the opposite gender, his heart still tender even after all the years apart. His ruby eyes flicked up as her voice rang out, the angle of his head shifting into a more confident position than dipped near his throat. "You're not?" Aiolos was quick to question, his head tilting a little to the side as he pondered the words he'd heard before. Angels had feathered wings...check. They held a beauty to the world, check. They seemed grand and the fact there were four of them seemed to fit the bill quite perfectly really. "I know those are not wind wings...." Perhaps he was presumptuous on his angel classification, but he really didn't know any other way to describe her breed. "What breed is your mother then, if you don't mind my asking?" Since her mother was almost an angel, her father a wind-uni....she must have gotten her wings from her mother.

He wondered for a moment if his dad had ever seen a dual winged soquili before, but he was sure if he had he would have told him about it.

His thoughts were quick to shift though, while he was usually nothing special with nothing to set him apart from the next stallion; he could see plainly she was. This didn't make him any less important though, and he felt it was such an odd statement to hear it from someone who was. He was reminded, briefly, of Eponine. While the rest of their siblings had been born bold and brave, they seemed to gravitate closer to the calm and reserved spectrum. "I would say you are...importance sometimes is just...more reserved and not as boldly known. So it seems less but it really isn't.." He chuckled, shaking his head at her admittance that she too had a fighting sibling.

"I...know what you speak of very well. My older brother has been brawling, fighting and training since he was just a foal, while I think his evil slaying days are probably well behind him he's in amazing shape...his strength would measure to at least five of me...and trains every day. Its...insane, to say it kindly!" Sure, Aiolos had awe for his brother but he just...couldn't imagine himself in his hooves.

With a small sigh, his eyes adverted for a moment. "I hope you do not. I don't think I would wish the one I ran into on my worst enemy. Kalona...I know not all are bad, but this one was just....crazy. There's no other way to put it really. She had the horn of a unicorn though, strange, strange sight that was." He looked back to Shamsiel, giving a soft smile. "Sorry, where are my manners. I'm Aiolos...sorry to just barge in on you. I hope I'm not keeping you..?"

The angeni mare was glad that the stranger seemed to be of congenial nature. She wasn't necessarily a shy mare, but she did not have her sister's tenacity, nor her other siblings sense of adventure. The grey mare simply lived quietly, and appreciated the fact that Aiolos was neither being rude nor full of himself. While he had caught her off guard, he was not threatening, and she felt herself better able to relax. The spirits surely had blessed her with a spot of choice company.

"My mother is an angeni, though she never inherited a domain. She comes from a long line of them, or at least that's what I've been told." Having never met her mother's side, all she could do was speculate. She knew some names, but all other details were lost. Still, there was no need to tell the stranger all about her families affairs. . . He didn't need to be bored to tears! "My father is of mutant alicorn blood, which . . . makes me a bit of a mix. I know I look like an angeni, but I'm a bit more varied." She had no domain, and doubted she inherited much power. Perhaps if she were cornered she might tap into a bit of holy light, but even so, the mare doubted she'd know how to use it. She was just a dual winged mare -- nothing more, nothing less.

"If I'm not prying, might I inquire as to what runs through your blood? Are you of pure grounded blood, or are there other secrets that remain unseen?" She smiled warmly, hoping that the question wouldn't come off as prying. She felt it only fair though - one could never judge a book by its cover, and as she was no real angel, perhaps this stranger wasn't just a grounded. "We don't get many strangers that pass by this way, so I assure you, your secrets are safe." She added with a small laugh, black eyes brightening with warmth.

The mare tried to imagine what Aiolos' sibling might look like. To have the strength of five of him must mean the stallion was immense! The blue and white sir before her certainly looked like he was strong and capable. . . but apparently his brother was much like her sister. "Well, it sounds like your brother is quite impressive. . .and I hope he is happy in his chosen lot of life. I . . I just don't feel like I could ever live that sort of lifestyle, even if it meant I could better help others or defend against the damned. I don't know about you, but with my sister, I almost feel deficient because I don't follow in her hooves." She gave a gentle laugh, trying to make light of the misfortune. "I'm afraid my spirit isn't nearly as brave."

"Oh! Oh it sounds as if you met a unikalona! I . . . I've heard they can be crazed, awful things. Not right in the head, and a force to be reckoned with to be most sure. Did . . did you happen to meet one close to these lands? Or was it elsewhere in the world?" Her ears pricked and her eyes widened some, curious to know. If there was a unikalona close to these lands, she would want to inform her family at once, or at least send word to her sister. Terentia had not yet left, and could certainly aid in running out anything threatening.

"It is truly good to meet you, Aiolos," she greeted back, offering him a formal bow. "I'm Shamsiel . . and you're not too far from my families herd. Just a small flight away by wing, and about an hours walk from the borders. I . . I'm sorry, I should have welcomed you sooner."

"Angeni..." It was a word he had never heard before, although Angeni and Angel had similar roots, he could see how ancestors of her traits were named as such. So, she was a variety of species, then, he had to say he wasn't used to such...blood blending, if you could call it such. While Marius had fallen for a Wind'lona, or something to that effect, and Zevach with Zarimunia - another wind...it seemed their lineage grew to be a little more diverse. Yet nothing of the marvels that she spoke of...certainly more grand, anyways. The only one he could think of was Eponine...but it was a bit of a sore subject when it came to the mysterious stallion known only as Ezriel, or well...a very angry subject if you asked Zevach who constantly threatened to end the stallion if he ever came back around.

Families.

"I see nothing wrong with being varied." Aiolos smiled kindly, "It makes you unique." Not that personality or perhaps even talents couldn't make you stand out among a herd but...certainly having such complimenting and interesting traits only helped the cause. When she pried into his own lineage he gave a short laugh, shaking his head. "Well, I am afraid my own is short and sweet, I am as grounded and normal as can be. Word is I have plenty of family from my siblings who are a little more exotic, with wings, horns and what have you...but I haven't been given the chance to meet most except for a niece of mine, who is a wind." He only wished he had some secrets, but alas, he was but a cover of a book with no interior. He was what could be seen. Aiolos had caught the warmth in her eyes, earning a soft smile of his own. He wasn't sure if he had ever seen someone with so much black in their eyes before, and it made the blue of her iris' pop even more. "If I had secrets to share, I would do so without hesitation." He offered, his gaze turning to the stream once more as it moved past without a care in the world.

"He is. A bit of a foul mouth and temper, but he's good...He must be, or he would have complained a long time ago." Aiolos stifled a laugh by biting his lip, it wasn't like Zevach to have secrets at all, he was one to always let his feelings be known whether it was asked or not. It wasn't long that he felt his muscles flinch, wide and curious eyes drifting back to the mare before him. Truly...it sounded like she was describing him, to a point. He almost wished to ask if she could read minds, because it was simply uncanny. "You do know about me, then. I feel the same. I am the only of my siblings who have yet to...really accomplish anything worthwhile. Not just in grand strength, or dreams, family....even something as simple as finding something in life...all I have ever seemed to do is run." Run with no destination in sight, really. "However, I do believe that some of us need to be more...reserved in life, or else we wouldn't be able to tell which of us were destined for greater things."

Unikalona....he still would call her a demon, for truly, he was positive she was. The likes of Raven was unparalleled in his world, even though he knew bigger monsters lurked among them...he'd never seen something so terrifying. "No....I ran into her some time ago, so much so I couldn't tell you where the scars from her encounter were anymore. Fur had finally grown back to most, but he knew they were there. Their memories lasting much longer than the physical ever would on his being. "Shamsiel....that's a beautiful name. 'Siel...." He pondered a nickname, since so many were prone to calling him Aio. Following suit he bowed his head low, his white hair pooling around his face as he blew the pesky hairs from his eyes. "Your familys herd? Ah....well, I promise I will not intrude. I am not yet so skilled in picking out borders yet....I am merely heading east, running aimlessly as usual..." He gave his own weak chuckle at his own words, yet it was truth...there were no hidden secrets in his agenda about why he was heading east. Just...a hope that he would find something worthwhile out there.
