After the excitement of the somewhat aborted Cave of Dragons and the healing (and subsequent departure) of his friend, Keke had returned to his clan for a much needed break. He hadn't expected to see her again, certainly not so soon, and he was therefore surprised when a beast arrived, carrying a message in it's ornery talons. He had received it during class, and it had derailed the class into various discussions of vildean anatomy, care, and feeding, which had annoyed it into flight. Fortunately, he was able to capture it long enough to send it back with a reply.

Of course he would meet her.

Keke waited on the stones by the place that they had camped, just after he had brought her to the settlement to be healed. They were an interesting formation of stones – spires that spoke of caverns, not the open sky above them. They were, he thought, likely the result of magic, though their composition (of a strictly igneous nature) meant that they could as easily be of Firani make as of Gaili make.
Perhaps, he thought, they were the result of a battle between two dragons of those clans... Or, better yet, Between dovaa or khehora. If so, that would be a fascinating bit of history and magic, and Keke had to restrain himself from taking samples to investigate (or hoarde amidst all his other samples). He could take some later. For now, these thoughts were mere amusements as he awaited Xenosa's arrival...

“M’dius behave yourself.” Xenosa narrowed her gave at her Vlidean he was currently hunting below her as she flew. He liked to stalk some of the fast little lizards of the area and he’d taken a liking to the hunt. But as colorful as he was he was quite visible and Xenosa like to stay as invisible as possible. The Vlidean chirped at her but settled down and flew by her side. She’d sent M’dius with a message but she didn’t know if Keke was going to be joining her. It would be nice to have some real company after the Aiskala fights.

A message had also been sent to her so called husband to make sure he knew she was well and alive. Xenosa was sure the man wouldn’t care but she also didn’t want him sending anyone to find her. She’d return home when she wanted to. He’d sent back word to her but she’d left the message at the end of her bag and hadn’t bothered reading it. Sighing softly, Xenosa increased her speed until she saw where she was headed. It was still odd for her to seek out friendships with Khehora but they seemed so much better than Magesciens sometimes.

M’dius flew ahead of her and spotted Keke for her before returning and showing here where Keke was. Xen spotted him soon after and landed softly next to him. Her pack dropped heavily to the ground and the Orderite rolled her shoulders to get the aches and twists out of them. “Hello Keke.” It felt like she hadn’t seen him in a while and the last time hadn’t exactly been under some good circumstances. Thankfully, Xenosa no longer had a death wish so this expedition should go smoothly as it could. Hunting Gali could never go smoothly, but she planned on collecting some orbs. “I hope you weren’t waiting long.”

Kekeovonnai had gotten distracted... again... and was busy nosing around the spires for some hint (and maybe, in a classic show of his lacking self restraint) a few samples of the strange rock.

He looked up abruptly, an amusing gesture for one with such a long neck. “Hmm?” he smiled sheepishly and stretched before padding over to join her. “Oh, not at all. Not waiting long at all.” his tail waved gently as he sniffed her from a respectful and friendly distance. She seemed healthy from her scent, which was very good considering the last time he had seen her, but otherwise he could glean nothing too substantial from her scent...

Which was why the gods had given them speech.

“How are you?” he asked, “I must say, it's been a while!”

“I’m alright, spent some time in Aisko recovering and hunting.” And avoiding my husband because I hate him. The thought flashed across her mind and she shut it down. “It indeed has been a while. Should we set up camp before the sun falls any lower?”

They’d need to get a fire going as well to get some food going. Then perhaps if it wasn’t too dark hunting a Gali could get interesting. Though Xenosa did not plan on hunting any dragons at night, only the foolish did so.

“What about you? What have you been doing? Keeping the children busy I hope?”

“Aisko?! That's so far away! And such a fascinating land!” he said enthusiastically. He wanted to go there some day, some how. And who knew? Maybe one day he would. “Someday, you must tell me of your fascinating adventures there!” and everywhere.

“Oh yes! I've been teaching the little ones about their world. I try to make it interesting...” he churred at the vildean, “He made things very interesting, indeed! I managed to keep him out of their stomachs, which was a little trying, but they ended up learning so much that day...” he chuckled, and frowned... He hadn't realized it was late at all – having keen eyes that could see in dim light helped. “Oh!” he said, a little sheepish, “Up to you! I'm comfortable as is... mmm...”

He looked up at the mountains, observing how they were shadowed by the dimming light. “So, your message was quite vague. What will we be doing?” He was excited for whatever it was, more so for it being secret.

“Far, cold, and quite desolate.” Xenosa certainly did not want to return under any circumstances. “I only went hunting for a few dragons, there wasn’t any real adventure.” Apart from having to deal with an Oblivionite a couple of times and meeting Naita which well that had been interesting. There had also been that very odd Dovaa girl. Though again, Xenosa found none were really good or interesting stories and felt no need to share them. “It is not a place you want to go.” She did not wish anyone’s travels to take them to such a cold place, even her enemies.

While Keke talked, Xenosa prepared the fire. “I am sure he was quite happy about that.” She cast the Vlidean a look and it chirped haughtily. Once the wood had been gathered she dropped it all in their little area and started putting it together. “I’ll make a fire but I will probably sleep under the stars like you.” And with the fire started, Xenosa undid her cape and settled on the ground by the fire. It was going to be nice out tonight she could tell. She was going to use her bag as a pillow for now and hopefully wouldn’t be too sore tomorrow.

“Well, I know that you are Gali and I wanted to go hunting Gali dragons. So I thought you might want to come with me.” And perhaps make my time a little less lonely. But this she did not say aloud and kept for herself. Xenosa watched Keke for his reaction to her news.

“Oh.” His father had travelled throughout the world, and Keke had always wanted to follow his example: Keke seriously doubted that there was anywhere on Magesc that he didn't want to go someday. But perhaps another time, when he was stronger and more able to find the adventure that he was sure was buried beneath the cold desolate place that Xenosa described... oh the animals and plants he could find there! There were creatures there – at least for the dragons to eat, anyway, and he wanted to know what they were, how they survived, why they didn't all just grow fins and wings and migrate away. But for now, it was clear that Xenosa wanted to talk no more about Aisko. Perhaps another day, another adventure.

For now, it seemed, they had a more current adventure to plan. “Ooo! Yes, a fire would be splendid! It's so difficult to make a fire with talons alone, did you know?” he chattered as he watched her start it, “When its very cold, my father helps to start a fire in his cave, and we bring lit branches around to other fires to start them and keep the dens warm. He has hands, you know.” he offered, “He's a khehorian.” Well, both of his father's were, but Oblivion... was long gone. They had sought him and sought him, his sister and he, but it was as if the Diabi had simply... vanished.

He settled in by the fire, letting his dark hide absorb the heat, and let out a low purr of satisfaction. This... was good. This was very good.

As was her idea. “Oh! Yes! What an excellent idea!” he chirped, “Of course I'd like to come! My auntie has been on my case about building my own collection of dragon orbs. Something about showing my power, but honestly, I've told her over and over again that I'm a teacher – I can't just go trying to take on dragons on my own whenever I might have the chance, you know? Otherwise the little ones might not have a teacher to learn from!” he laughed, stretching out to his full length, “But I will be hunting with you... do you know, I haven't hunted for dragons since my sister went with me?” he purred again.
“This will be fun! So I take it that is tomorrow, then!” Keke felt excited and ready to go already, but he forced himself to settle down (though his tail betrayed his eagerness, twitching constantly to release his still-boundless enthusiasm into the world). Xenosa had been travelling and was probably tired. One shouldn't take on dragons when one was tired – that was common sense. “We'll probably find them quickly anyway!” he chattered, “I know there was a family of them around a canyon just north of here... They were carving out a lair, if I observed them correctly. So, they should still be there!”

“I don’t think I’ve ever met a Khehorian before. I’ve seen them, but never actually spoken to one. They look like more Draconic versions of the Dovaa.” Did that mean that made them Magesciens? Did Magesciens fall in love with Khehora that became Khehorians? Xenosa rolled the thought in her mind as Keke talked away. He certainly talked a lot that one. Turning to look at him, Xenosa wondered what he would look like as a Khehorian. She found herself wanting to know what he looked like, curiosity perhaps but mostly because he was the closes thing she had to a friend.

“When you become a Khehorian I’d like to see.” Quickly she added. “And yes I was hoping that with you my hunting time would be reduced greatly.” Yawning Xenosa resettled herself down and stretched out her limbs. “I don’t think I’ll be able to stay away from home any longer, I’m being summoned and it’s not going to be pretty.” She couldn’t run away forever and she didn’t want to. She wasn’t one to run from problems but this one, this one she did not know how to take on. Xenosa glanced up at the sky and wondered if the Goddess was laughing at her.

“Both look like dragons – scales and horns and such – but there are differences. Like tails.” he explained, his tail swishing inadvertently in demonstration. “My father looks more human than some, but I know one who looks like a dragon on two legs.” Yes, Grrell looked very dragony. And Suluksati... was odd. But perhaps that was because she was an alikhehorian?

“Summoned? You have to go home?” Keke frowned, surprised, “Oh, thats right! You said you had a family, didn't you? A...” he squinted, trying to remember, “Mate, correct?” He knew people who wandered away from their mates, and returned occasionally, but...

“Do you not want to go home?” he asked, curious. It certainly sounded like it, but it was an odd thought.

“I guess in the end it makes no difference to me. Two legs is two legs.” It made them people, it made them Magscien. It was odd considering bonded Khehora didn’t attain such a form and many thought of them as pets. Very odd indeed that it would just so happen that they would first be seen as pets and then actual beings. Ah well, as long as they didn’t cause any disturbances what did she care? The answer to that was quite simple, if they didn’t bother her she didn’t bother them and that was the best way to go about things.

“Summoned isn’t exactly the word. I just have some unfinished business there.” Curse them all. “Not a mate but a husband. Not the same.” Usually it should have been one in the same, but in this instance it was not. Maybe getting a lover would be a good idea, if her husband could have one why couldn’t she? How were they even going to have children if he couldn’t even bare the thought of seeing her naked? Maybe she would find someone who could bare that thought. “In any case, once I am finished here I will return. Not before then.”

“It’s complicated, not something I want to talk about.” It was still a little weird thinking of Keke as something more than a Khehora considering his current form. If anyone would come upon them now they would think they were Bonded. “What about you? Anything new to tell?” She was sure he was full of stories, he liked talking and she could only wonder what kind of trouble that got him in most of the time. Plus, Xenosa didn’t want to be the only one talking here and she’d invited him not to feel lonely so she was going to hear him out.

Two legs was two legs... Keke thought that was an interesting way to look at it. More interesting still was her correction – not a mate, but a husband. But wasn't 'husband' the Magescian term for a ritually-bound male mate? He didn't think he was wrong, but perhaps he was? This required more research.

But research was not done bluntly between friends, not when it was clearly a sore topic, and especially not when she had specifically said that she didn't want to talk about it. Keke was curious, not socially inept, and so he left questions about Magescian family structure for another time and place. One day, he supposed, he'd have to see them for himself.

“New?” he said slowly, thinking, “Well,” he cocked his head from side to side, uncertain, “A few months ago – so not exactly new – I had a very close call with a group of Darvithri! Do you know of them? Fascinating little beasts, like someone crossed a bouken with a magescian and then gave it fire magic!” he chuckled, “They aren't very friendly, and a group moved into an area I like to use for field trips – supervised and educational exploration. It has such lovely rock formations and I've found crystals there, too. Mostly quartz, but still a nice, pretty rock for the little ones to enjoy! But with Darv there, it became far too dangerous to take them, which was sad. Not so much for them – Orakoi can explore anything and enjoy doing it – but for me, because it was such a perfect teaching tool; with great strata, rocks, a few plants, and even an old lava floe...” He babbled on about the virtues of the site, of the nearness of it to his clan, of a really neat stone he found there once, and its properties. Keke loved to talk, and once he got started, it was sometimes hard to stop him – it was this enthusiasm that made him such a good teacher, and he was rarely boring... though he did end up leaving the interesting matter of the darvithri and the issues they caused behind as his 'conversation' went deeper into his favorite subject – nature. If Xenosa fell asleep during his chatter, no one – especially not Keke – would blame her.

If Xenosa had wanted him to talk before, now she certainly regretted her choice. He spoke for the rest of the evening and she listened through dinner. Though as the sun began to descend and the moon rise, Xenosa resettled herself down on her side propping up her head in her hand as she continued to listen. Once in a while she asked him a question and that seemed to throw him into another tandem of speech. At some point, Xenosa didn`t even know what time it was but she felt her eyes dropping. She never remembered herself falling asleep into a nice fit less sleep.

It was the sun that finally awoke the Orderite and she stretched and yawned. That had been a great sleep but now they needed to get to hunting. Made sure the fire was completely out before getting her supplies and munching on a bit of food. Hopefully Keke would awaken soon too and they could get a move on. She couldn`t hunt without him, so she would wait patiently. She didn`t know what kind of sleeping pattern Khehora had, maybe he`d sleep till mid day. If that happened she was going to have to keep busy.

If she had told him to shut up, he probably would have. For a while anyway. It wouldn't be the first time that someone had told him so, and he had gotten the occasional boff to the face for it. He was observant enough to notice when Xenosa actually fell asleep, her soft not-quite-snores a giveaway even he could not miss. Embarrassed, he made his own trek into sleep near the fire.

Keke was an obnoxiously energetic khehora in the morning, a fact his nocturnal sister would growlingly attest to. He'd stayed up late chatting to his friend, so he woke a little later than usual – that is, when the sun was more than just cresting the horizon – but he still woke with his usual vibrant energy.

He uncurled himself from his sleeping position and stretched. “Good morning!” he said cheerily, “Are we going to hunt now?” At the gruff affirmative, he shook the dirt out of his wings and began to prance happily forth. “Then lets go!”

He knew the way to the canyon, and his sense of smell – and other senses – led them to where the dragons were... and no further. He could feel them nearby, their great magical bulks distinctive signatures against the natural stone, but he and Xenosa were still hidden behind a cloak of stones – an rockfall centuries old that stood like an ancient grave cairn near where, only feet below, the rapids of the mountain river carved their way, still, through the stone.

“What next?” he whispered, staring up at the rock ledges. He could even see one of the massive beasts nesting there... how exciting.

“Yes of course.” Xenosa said with a chuckle, he was almost as enthusiastic as she was for a good hunt! Letting him lead the way, the Orderite followed him like a shadow and she was certainly quiet like one. Her fingers had found their way to her daggers and now she twirled one in each hand. These were her smaller throwing daggers which she preferred, but she kept the longer ones close by hidden from view. Once they’d arrived and Keke seemed to turn to her for their next move, Xenosa smiled and stretched out her wings.

“Now we hunt.” She said with a smile before flying off.

Keke was not a hunter, but she knew he would watch her and try to aid her if he could. Xenosa angled herself towards the dragon that she saw and throw three daggers in quick session, her arms and hands working in perfect union. The daggers all landed along the dragon’s spine and it growled, turning on her and seeing her. Still on the ledge however, Xen knew she had the advantage. Her hands went to her large daggers and like a bird of prey launched herself at the dragon hanging on the cliff side.

In and out she went, swinging her blades and slicing where she could. It roared once and another Gali seemed to awaken from its own slumber. Xenosa paid it no head for now, it was not dangerous just yet and she had significantly weakened this Gali. Of course, she noticed the large shadow cas voer herself and moved just in time as another Gali tried to take her out of the sky. She had to kill the weakest one and then take on the others. The Orderite went in for the final kill and watched the dragon disappear leaving behind its prize.

The Orderite plunged to grab the orb however was cut off as a fourth Gali dragon made it’s appearance an cut her off from retrieving her prize.

“Keke!” Xenosa called so he could grab the orb.
