Prompt Did You Hear? Prompt 1

Word spread fast in a place like Tendaji. Surprising when the people were so spread out, but now that there was more traveling it was a growing rumor mill spreading word as fast as earthlings could move. It was little secret that a group of Alkidike were starting to cause problems in Tendaji. The extremist Alkidike felt that it was high time that Jauhar was taken back from the shifters and the alarming growth of others that were settling into their land.
There were growing accounts of ambushing in the jungles of Jauhar, where shifters and other earthlings were being beaten and sacked for their things before being threatened to leave Jauhar… and there was only so much these poor people could take before they fled the scene and packed their bags. What would happen if the Alkidike decided to spread out further than Jauhar and became a threat to all earthlings?
They were still rumors, and nothing could be proved, but many were beginning to cast a disapproving gaze toward the Alkidike and a weary eye to Jauhar’s borders...
Senja was taking a small vacation from her family; she needed it! Between trying to keep up with her son, keeping her over protective husband from going crazy, working as a composer, and performing at the theater.. she was at her wits end! So she took Ete, her sprite, and Shilea, her mammu, off towards Ast to go shopping. At least that was her excuse; in reality she just wanted to get out, relax, enjoy the silence of the jungle for a bit and see someplace that wasn't Neued at the time. Especially with all the ugly rumors she kept hearing.... She herself had never really had an issue with Alkidikes... but that was because her city was so far away from the Alkdike section of the jungle they tended to be safe. But if what the rumors were true? They'd just finished fixing up the city from the last war! Senja sighed as she lounged on Shilea's back, looking down at the residents of the small town as they meandered in. All the depressing thoughts! She was supposed to be out here enjoying herself! Senja shook off her thoughts and started watching the people of the small town instead. She was enjoying the shocked expressions on many of their faces; what was a mammu doing here? She could practically hear. She chuckled and stretched languidly, a vacation was always good!

After experiencing the treatment in another of the cities Ming'we decided to go to another. She was hoping she would eventually get far enough away that she wouldn't need to worry about the rumors flying about or a fight taking place again. When she was in Ast she slowed her pace to a leisurely one and let her dark blue eyes take everything in. One thing stood out, that was for sure. A huge Mammu and it was decorated nicely to boot. She smiled at the sight and then when she saw that someone was actually on it she had to check it out. Making a bee-line toward the beast she'd make sure to stay well out of the way of it's feet. With a small cough she'd try to get the person's attention before she called up to her. "You have a nice familiar." The alkidike and wind hybrid seemed to be in awe of the creature.

Senja spotted the girl making her way towards Shilea quite fast; she was one of the few actually trying to approach after all! This one, she noticed was one of the hybrid alkidikes that apparently were making the alkidikes get so fussy. That pale yellow skin and antenna doubled with the blonde hair that Senja only saw on Wind members gave her away. She also, much to her disapproval, saw the suspicious looks cast at the girl... "Thank you;" Senja responded with a sweet smile as Shilea stopped and lifted a trunk to sniff at the new girl. "She's called Shilea and I'm Senja." She looked out over at the crowd and sniffed. "Want a ride? We were... sort of heading towards a market.. if this small place has one."

As the Mammu lifted her trunk to sniff at her Ming'we chuckled and held her hand out, palm up, for the creature. While she normally wasn't so bold with other's familiars, she couldn't help herself with this one. It was the first one she'd seen in person, though she knew instantly what it was. As the woman introduced herself and the Mammu she grinned. "I'm Ming'we and--" She paused as she heard a harsh whisper behind her that mentioned her Alkidike half. Apparently the rumors had made it this far inward as well. Not wanting to get hurt again, or get Senja hurt by speaking with her, she took a few steps back. "Uhm.. I'll pass on the ride, but thank you for the offer. I better get going.." Not that she knew where to go. The blonde took a deep breath and looked around as she tried to figure out which way would be best to avoid any conflict.

Senja frowned and glared at the people around. "Nonsense! Shilea.. pick her up." She said with a smile as her mammu's strong trunk wrapped about the other girl's waist. "I'm not about to let other's stupidity and closeminded ways get in my way of making a new friend... If I can live with obans even after what they did to my city than I'm sure I'll have no issue with getting to know you either!" Ete, sitting in Senja's lap, gave a small sigh and chittered at her 'charge' in her sweet bell toned voice. She did not approve of borrowing trouble at all! But there was no way she could tell that to the big folk she'd decided to look after.

When the trunk of the beast wrapped around her waist she lifted her arms and blinked. There was no arguing with a Mammu. Since her hands were free she waved them in mock surrender to Senja. "I'm not as mean as my Alkidike sisters." And that was true. Ming'we liked to see the good in people no matter what. When she was high enough up and she saw the sprite that was sitting in the woman's lap she chuckled. "Oh! How cute." Idly the hybrid wondered if she were hiding any more familiars.

Senja smiled; "Oh.. they probably aren't mean.. just stupid or too arrogant." She was a shifter after all.. and even Neued had trouble with the Sisters in the past.... "That is Ete," She said as her sprite fluttered about the new girl, chattering in her sweet tones and sounding like a scolding grandmother. "She decided years ago when we first met that I needed a keeper... and apparently that I still do." Her tone was wry and amused as she eyed the girl up close. The pale greenish yellow tint to the wind skin was interesting. Though it was rather startling to not see the black hair and eyes of an Alkidike... she was so used to how they looked that it was almost shocking to not see their features. Maybe that's why they dislike them, it makes them feel off.... She tapped Shilea with a foot, letting her mammu know she wanted to continue on. "If you feel the need to grab onto something, grab her hair.. just don't pull it too tight... or her necklace." Senja was sprawled on Shilea's hind quarters, letting the girl sit on the more stable shoulders that had longer hair for her to grab on to. Shilea's gait was a slow swaying one, it had taken Senja a while to get used to it, but it wasn't so bad that someone would fall off.. unless she took off at a run!

The sprite had her full attention, her eyes following where she decided to flutter to, but Ming'we did hear what Senja said. It made her wish for her own familiar. Once she was settled on the Mammu she would look back at the shifter and offer a grin. "Thank you, this is amazing." To have an opportunity like this was something. Giving her attention to the beast that she currently was sitting on she stroked the hair in a petting motion. "I also want to thank you for saving me from the harsh rumors." And potentially another fight. One that she would not raise a hand in. Ming just didn't want to admit that people were blinded so easily by fear of half of who she was.

Ete watched the new big person follow her about with eager eyes. So she stopped and slowly looked at the girl before pulling a face and buzzing up to sit on Senja's head. Senja waved a hand nonchalantly; "Oh no worries! Though really you should speak up to those whispering bad things! If you just let them talk then they think that they can walk all over you! Best to talk back and show you have spine and the willingness to defend yourself at least." She sniffed and eyed the people that parted as Shilea meandered down the street. "Show them you're not an easy target and some of the talking will die off simply because bullies like those who cower before them.. not ones who bite back."

She grinned when the sprite made a face. As she listened to Senja say that she needed to talk back Ming'we had to shake her head. "I couldn't. It's not their fault that they were raised in such a way." Or that they left fear of something dictate how they dealt with everything. The blonde looked back at the shifter woman and gave a small laugh. "Who knows, maybe they just want to fit in and go with the pack. You know?" Ming lifted her shoulders slightly.

Senja sniffed in disapproval; "It is their fault! And if you do nothing to try and change their minds, they will continue to harass others like yourself!" She shook her head; this girl was far to nice! Allow others to say nasty things about her just to let them fit in? Now that was stupid. "And what will you do when they think they are in the right and decide it is 'just' to start killing hybrids because no one has ever told them differently?"

She paled a little when she heard Senja say that others might start to kill hybrids simply because no one taught them differently. "They wouldn't go that far... would they?" Ming'we never had to face that kind of hate when she lived in Sauti. It worried her a little. Just how long was she going to be safe in Jauhar?

Senja sighed and laid back on Shilea's back to stare at the dappled patches of sun light that filtered through the thick jungle canopy. "My people have had our issues with the Alkidikes... And coming off of a war that... was not won by strength of arms? Many warriors are itching for more fights, they're all geared up with no one to fight... The Alkidike's are by far the most warrior like of the tribes. Some may just be looking for an excuse while others are riding on the confidence of those warriors... thinking they cna get away with harassing hybrids and hoping to finally halt the use of Aisha by Earthlings." Neued was the farthest of the shifter cities from the Alkidike territories.. but even then they had a large traffic of alkidikes. And with that traffic came gossip, rumors, and information. "Would they?" She sat up and looked at the younger girl. "Yes they would. Of course, I'm a shifter and therefore biases! " She chuckled wryly. There was, in her opinion, too much unresolved anger about the oban war... and the issue with hybrids was much worse due to festering anger.

With every word Senja said she felt a desire to go fleeing back to Sauti. Not that she could just up and leave her family and her mother refused to go back to where her mate had died. Ming'we wasn't even sure what her brother thought about it all. The blonde felt her antennae droop a bit. "I wonder if it can be considered abuse of Aisha if it is an Alkidike that makes the request. After all, hybrids and earthlings were not allowed near the great tree. Still, she could see that Senja held a point. Ming would need to at least defend herself.

Senja shrugged; "Frankly I think they're all idiots. Aisha is a goddess no? Than I'm sure she's got a reason for granting blossoms to an Alkidike with a non Alkidike mate!" She patted the girl's hand sympathetically. "There's a bunch of anger over the oban war and I think that's what is making this so much worse than it was. There's always been growls about hybrids but never this bad! So I think you should be fine if you avoid starting any fights... but do try to defend yourself!" Poor girl looked depressed! She should probably head to her earthlig tribe... I bet it'd be safer there than in here with all the Alkidikes looking for a fight!
