World Prompt 2
Fight in the Marketplace!
Prompt 2

Solo or RP Format
Can be used toward Battle req (or RP req only if done with a friend)
Solo word minimum is 500, RP post minimum is 7

The people of Tendaji seem to be settling in - and some in places far from their homeland. The tensions are high, and with the whispers of the Alkidike planning an offensive… well, some have been on edge and ready for a fight. Were the outsiders going to help their people when the time came to fight the extremist Alkidike? Most of the natives to the area had their doubts.

An argument had broken out in the market, verbal at first, but it wasn’t long before it became a physical confrontation.

This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the instigator, or on the defense.

This battle prompt will be resolved by rolling 1D100.

xxxxxPrentice must roll 70-100 for success.
xxxxxStage 2 must roll 60-100 for success.
xxxxxStage 3 must roll 50-100 for success.
xxxxxStage 4 must roll 40-100 for success.

|| Success will result in 50exp in addition to the versatile point
|| Failure will only allow for the versatile point credit.

Kdal suppressed a flinch as Dakri shifted on her shoulder, claws digging into her soft skin. She knew that he didn't mean to hurt her, and it was her own fault for not wearing shoulder guards or even a shirt for him to cling to. But no faint metallic scent reached her nose and she didn't feel the stickiness that came with an open wound, so she counted herself lucky, for now. Dakri's wings were folded in an odd way as he clung to her, one draped across her back, the other folded tightly against the back of her neck. His head was nudged up along the column of her throat, the crest that ran along the top of his head and down his neck tickled her as she walked. His tail, curled as it was along her torso, felt much like the arm of a lover, welcomed and sun warmed. It helped that the frill on the end of it was fanned open across her chest, as if it were mimicking some sort odd ornament.

Reaching up Kdal scratched under his jaw, listening to the pleased rumble the motion garnered. Her dark eyes scanned the varied booths at the market, searching listlessly for some item that she might vaguely want. With a sigh the young shifter stepped off the side market path she'd been treading and onto a larger, more crowded one. This was the main market, filled with colorful booths and vendors happily hawking their wares. People from her tribe were off the beaten path, where it was a little quieter. The Sail Scales they sold might be used to noise, but nothing ever prepared them for the sheer bustle of a true market.

But something was off today. Yes it was noisy, but it seemed, well, louder for some reason, and there was a tension in the air. The closer she got to the center of the market, the more tangible it seemed to get.

"Oi! You! Yes you! Who do you think you are, running into V'rea like that. Get back here and apologize for dirtying her clothing. Properly! Trash like you should grateful that she's even acknowledging you."

The words were loud and seemed to cut through the usual din, leaving a startled momentary silence in its wake. Several heartbeats later a low murmur started up again, as people moved on, conversations restarted and speculation on what had just happened were traded. Kdal frowned and continued on, not knowing that she was headed right towards the problem.

In front of her was a knot of people, a veritable blend of the races. To one side was a group of Alkidikes, sneering at a young hybrid who was sprawled out on the ground, looking stunned. As she approached an older shifter entered and helped the hybrid up, hands deftly brushing away clots of dirt that clung to the others yellow-green skin and white hair.

"What's this, trash got itself a lover? Going to pollute the bloodline even more? Scum like you shouldn't be allowed to breed." The speaker was an Alkidike with loose short hair and a slim figure. The sheer disdain that twisted her expression made the markings on her face look like warpaint. The crowd shifted, murmuring in displeasure at the abuse. The shifters grip visibly tightened on the hybrids arm before they let go, stalking forward to hiss something quietly to Warpaint.

Whatever it was Warpaint didn't appreciate it at all, and responded by slugging the shifter, lips pulled back from her teeth and her black eyes narrowed. It was as if all the tension that had been building just snapped at the moment, and the two started to fight for real, with weapons and fists instead of words.

Kdal swallowed and took a step back, but wasn't quick enough to get out of range. A hand shot out and grabbed her, pulling her into the brawl. With a cry Dakri launched himself off of her, and few out of range of the mob.

Teiluj had just recently returned to the village after having washed herself in the river a brisk hours walk from Ast. She was feeling a little better after taking the time to relax and collect her thoughts. Her home lay on the opposite end from where she had entered. Walking swiftly through the village Teiluj took note of the way it seemed to be rather dead compared to usual. Normally shifters occupied a vast majority of the streets. Now however, there was no one.

Slowing her pace Teiluj approached the center cautiously swallowing as she heard shouts from a large crowd of people. She could see the antenna of several Alkidikes looming above the shifters. Her body trembled as she glanced about, searching for a quick way to get home without having to come in contact with the horde of people not far from her.

Turning Teiluj let out a scream as someone's hand took hold of her wrist. An Alkidike had been hiding away from the group and she hadn't heard her approach. Trying to pull her hand away the woman only seemed to hold on before dragging her towards the group Teiluj was trying to find a way to avoid.

"Look sisters. I've found this little one scampering about on the edges."

Kdal struggled against the grip on her arm, eventually tearing free after a bit of flailing. She tried to push her way out of the mob with little success as too many bodies were scrapping. The tip of a blade grazed against her side, the sharp point easily parting skin. The cut was shallow enough that she didn't feel it, but someone else had as a pained cry sounded beside her. Biting her lip the young shifter doubled her efforts of getting free.

This attack was a little too convenient for her liking. No honorable person pulled a weapon on someone defenseless.

Just as she broke free another hybrid was thrown into the melee, landing on her. The girl was pale of skin with the same green markings as the Alkidikes had, but crystals dotted her skin. Another pureblood stood just behind her, smirking in a malicious sort of way.

Kdal's arms came up to grab the hybrid, one hand on her shoulder the other her waist. "Easy." She muttered, taking a step back as the Alkidike took one forward.

Teiluj's eyes were trembling with fear. The large crowd seemed to be fighting each other with several Alkidikes in the center, most of them pleased that the fighting had erupted so brilliantly. She couldn't help but wonder if the fight had been their intent. The feeling of getting thrust forward towards the fight, forced a yelp from the mixed blooded girl. She had seen a couple heads turn her way, one she had recognized from before. Color drained from her face as someone tried to steady her. Looking forward Teiluj stared at what she assumed to be a male shifter. There didn't seem to be any mix in him.

Trembling Teiluj tried to look away. Cringing at the blows she expected to come from the shifter. She knew how little the pure bloods thought of her. And how often they had wanted to take it out on those they didn't deem pure. Teiluj had been lucky in avoiding it so far. Her mother had moved her from a heavily populated Alkidike community to Ast when she was a youngling to protect her. And while the shifter community was more tolerant of the 'others' like her. That didn't mean there were still those who held them in a pathetic light.

Swearing under her breath Kdal tried to coax the hybrid to stand behind her, so that she could take any of the blows aimed at her. She'd felt the tremors in the other and saw the fear in her eyes when their gazes had met briefly. Her heart lurched and lodged painfully in her throat. No one should have that look to them. Lips pressed into a thin line Kdal suddenly jerked to one side, hissing as the butt of a spear connected with her shoulder and slid off, leaving a rapidly coloring line behind.

"s**t, we're getting out of here." She said, gripping the hybrids wrist and pulling her against her side. She could feel more stray blows landing against her back and Kdal knew that there was no way she'd be able to protect herself, let alone someone else from within a mob. Not when she was untrained and unarmed.

Confused by the male shifters actions Teiluj lifelessly allowed her body to be pulled towards him. Her wrist was once again take this time by the earthling. Unsure of what she had said among all the other sounds and vibrations. She almost wanted to dig her heals in and resist the man. No, she didn't want to be hurt anymore!

"Oi Oi, look at this sister. A hybrid and her cyrstal crawler are trying to escape the fight in the confusion of it all. Weakling children." Warpaint was hissing as she moved deftly through the crowd. Spreading her fingers the Alkidike grabbed hold of Teiluj's hair.

"Haven't we already tried to off that one before? Bring the crystal crawler who was trying to help her. He could prove some enjoyment. We can even make an example out of them."

Laughing at her sisters words Warpaint grabbed hold of Kdal's upper arm dragging her out of the crowed with Teiluj in her other hand. The hybrid whimpered as she was brought forward her eyes never rose to meet those of their assailants. Teiluj could feel the pressure on the back of her head as she was thrown towards the ground. Something hard connected with her middle forcing a cough out of her as air rushed from her lungs. Her body curled into a fetal position.

"You see this," one of the alkidikes shouted as she pointed towards Teiluj on the ground. "This is what happens to mixed bloods who carry Alkdike in them. Abominations." The woman spat on Teiluj as another blow his her arm.

Warpaint moved to focus more on Kdal sweeping her feet under the Prentice and knocking her to the ground. Knocking back an arrow from her quiver she slowly pulled it out with a grin growing on her face. "And this is what happens when you try to help them." The metal connected with the skin on Kdals ear, sliding over it but not separating her ear.

Kdal choked on an outcry as a fist made its way into her side, her tormentor casually using her distraction to shove her to the ground. Still reeling Kdal could only watch as the hybrid she'd tried to help was beaten. A warning? For what? For being born the way you were? She bared her teeth at the Alkidikes until a green hand snapped out, the gleam of metal all but declaring her death. But it wasn't meant to be, apparently instead of burying the arrow into her chest, it was instead dragged over the side of her face. Flinching saved her from possibly getting more of her ear cut up, or perhaps, off.

Drawing a breath Kdal rolled backwards, knocking into and over one of her would-be tormentors. It was easy to flip back onto her feet, a move she'd practiced a time or two when no one could see her failure. Secretly she was glad she was able to pull it off smoothly, and not fall back on her arse like she did more often than not.

Lashing out she was able to snatch the arm of the Alkidike she'd knocked off balance, and threw her into her sisters. "Run for it!" She called, elbowing another in the throat. Lines of fire burned against her arms as more sharp edges creations made themselves known. But she wasn't going to back down without a real fight.

Another few blows before a scuffle broke out, it seemed the man who had been dragged along beside her was now trying to escape. Another blow, Teiluj had resisted screaming until now but something seemed to have shifted painfully when the last blow connected with her ribcage. Forcing the girl to cry out in pain. Her hand reaching out towards the shifter knowing it was a futile action. He was likely to be scared off now, knowing that leaving her there was for his own good. Another blow to her arm and Teiluj felt her head reeling from the pain. She was hurting. Trying to pull herself forward she could feel herself being lifted up by her hair. She refused to beg for them to let her go. There would be no point. It would only be seen as a weakness to them. And she wanted to be considered strong.

"What you hoping he would stop for you?" The alkidike mocked as she watched the shifter run. Holding Teiluj's face so she was forced to watch.

It didn't take long before Kdal realized that she was being herded around, and that her feeble attempts at fighting were being allowed. She snarled and ducked under an outstretched arm, dropping to her knees she scrambled around the multitude of legs until she popped up on the other side of them. She wasn't anyones plaything, nor example or whipping boy!

The hybrid was still there, and already bruises were starting to form on her pale skin. The Alkidike that held her there seemed to have a solid grip on her hair. With a hoarse scream Kdal threw herself at the tall woman, who just, moved out of the way, her grip on Teiluj's hair momentarily released.

The shifter collided with Teiluj, and grunted at the pain that blossomed from their impact, but it allowed her to stand between her and the group. "Get a grip! Get out of here while you can!" She snarled, "It's not me that they want to hurt!"

The hybrid girl cringed as the shifter collided with her. Her body ached as she stumbled forward. Free of the alkidikes grip. What was he thinking doing something so stupid. That could lead them to be caught. Looking off into the forest Teiluj made a soft grunting noise as she looked back at the shifter. Wounds covered his body too, the least she could do was help him escape into the forest right?

Without a word Teiluj reached forward, intent on grabbing the shifters wrist but took his hand instead. Giving a soft tug, Teiluj tried to beckon the shifter to follow her. She knew the forest like the back of her hand. She could tell when something was out of place, it was her home. She had grown up here, which also made it so she could easily slip away into the thickening treelines.

Luck didn't seem to be on their side much, but what little help they got from the crowd seemed to pick that time to double. The Sisters didn't get a chance to regroup and go after them right away, which Kdal thanked the moon for. He was already a bloody mess and the last thing he wanted was a spear in the back. He didn't think the Sisters were above backstabbing in the literal sense.

The hybrid girls hand felt odd in her own. It wasn't because her hand was smaller or larger, or rough from work nor was it soft from lack of hard work. It just...was. The shifter couldn't pinpoint what exactly made her feel that way, a tad too preoccupied with fleeing for his life.

The forest was a blur of color, tangled vegetation and towering trees, bushes big enough for someone to hide in. Kdal hoped that he wasn't leaving a blood trail for them to follow, or all this running would be for moot. Eventually he had to tug on the others hand, asking wordlessly for them to stop. His side was burning a bit too much for him to ignore and he was worried that something had gotten into the cut.

Teiluj felt the tug from the shifter and looked back at her. She stared at the shifter a moment, taking note of the many injuries he had sustained. Ear, and side being the major ones. Cringing she wanted to reach out and stop the bleeding. Her eyes glanced back along the forest. A barely noticeable trail followed them. From the wound on his side? Teiluj wondered her antenna twitching as she caught several hurried footsteps growing closer. "By Aisha's bows." Teiluj muttered looking up into the trees.

Growing up around both shifters and Alkidikes, Teiluj was quite adept at climbing trees. She had assumed all shifters were as well. Turning to Kdal Teiluj pointed up into the thick tree. "They are going to find us soon, hurry. Alkidike are ground dwellers, they are clumsy in the trees. We could probably survive better up there. Hurry!" Teiluj pressured grunting before moving towards the tree herself and moving slowly up.

Trees, of course it would be trees. Huffing silently Kdal made his way to the next closest tree and eyed it, before turning his gaze to his hands. No blood on them, nothing to give their ascent away. He'd do his best not to touch too much of the tree with his body, but there was only so much he could do.

Climbing wasn't something he did often, having grown up in an area that wasn't forest. He could climb cliffs and mountains, but he had a feeling that the difference was a bit bigger than most people would claim.

Biting his lip the young shifter groped around for his first hand hold, then his next, and the one after that. He was careful not to make too much noise as he slowly scaled the tree, slipping only occasionally. He'd rather not get speared on...spears...if he fell. His parents would never know he died and he didn't want to worry them.

Finally he made it to the thick branches above, and carefully walked across them to where they tangled together. It was a good spot to hide, at least for a moment or two. The leaves would hide them from quick glances until they moved higher.

Teiluj waited on the branch for the shifter to reach her. Noting briefly that the shifter wasn't as skilled with climbing. Keeping her eyes fixed on the shifter as she peered out into the forest, watching for the direction of the Alkidikes. Her long, thin appendages wiggled every once in a while. She was terrible at focusing on anything in the forest. Even worse when it came to trying to find footsteps. Moaning uselessly Teiluj followed the shifter along the branch. Voices met her ears.

Hissing the mixed blooded girl put a finger to her lips in a hushing motion ducking down into the leaves as she motioned for the shifter to do the same. Desperation in her face, before her gold eye's shifted to watch the female's on the forest floor.

"It ends here..."

"Look harder" Warpaint insisted. Pointing into one direction. "You search over there." Jerking her chin towards a different sister and pointing in the opposite direction. "You check that way. I doubt that shifter would have stopped bleeding. We caught it good if it's been able to bleed this much." Glancing up into the trees Warpaint narrowed her gaze.

Another Alkidike ran ahead another back on the trail so there were only two left. "You don't think they took to the trees? They are shifters."

"A hybrid Alkidike and her shifter boy." She seemed to dwell on that idea a bit. "I don't think I saw any shifter in the tainted blood. Doubt she knows how to climb. Forget the crawler I want the hybrid."
