FORUMS

Quote users when talking to them. They'll receive a notification and know that you replied.
You quote users by clicking the yellow quote button by their post.
You can also use the code [quote="username"] [/quote]. Just be sure to replace the word 'username' with their username.

Titles under the avatar.
Have you noticed that some users have titles under their avatar (in the forums)? This is from the Achievements feature.
Each achievement usually has a set of words (adjectives and nouns) associated with it. Some achievements are available year round, while others were one-time events. And, therefore, some titles can no longer be obtained.

Formatting
There are some useful codes that you don't see on the posting screen:
Spoiler Tags [spoiler] [/spoiler]
These hide enclosed text under a spoiler tag. This can de-clutter your post/thread. Hide old progress updates in a spoiler tag. Hide completed quests in a spoiler. And hide large images.

List Tags [list] [/list]
List tags are great for making bulleted and numbered lists. They're also great for adding style.
Indenting your whole post can look interesting.
Indent sections under titles.
If using images on the side of your post, indenting text can often help keep text remain consistent.
List tags can be stacked. Using more and more tags will indent your text more and more. Example of how: [list][list][list] [/list][/list][/list]
To make bulleted lists, use a [*] wherever you want a bullet to appear.
To make it numbered, use a [*] wherever you want a bullet to appear. Enclose the list with tags that look like [list=1] [/list]

How to link to the marketplace using the item image:
Here's the easiest way I've found

Go to the marketplace listing of the item:
Right click the image and copy the image URL. (You can choose the main icon of the item or any of the poses.)
In the post a reply box, click the IMG tag and paste (ctrl v) the URL.
You now have the item image.
To make it linkable, return to the marketplace listing and copy (ctrl c) the URL of that page.
Return to the post a reply box. Highlight your image text (including the IMG tags).
Click the URL button. Paste (ctrl v) the URL of the listing. Click okay. The next prompt appears, asking for the webpage title. Your image and tags should already appear there. Click Okay.
Done. c:

In all, the code should look like:
[url=URLofMarketListing][img]URLofImage[/img][/url]
or
[url=http://www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/itemdetail/7095][img]http://s.cdn.gaiaonline.com/images/thumbnails/5e6fb5d61bb7.png[/img][/url]

Tips and Tricks
Post Two: How to Earn Gold

How to Earn Gold
Some quick ideas on how to earn gold plus links to guides.

• • Dailies
These are things you should get into the habit of doing daily. They don't take long to complete.

Dumpster Dive
This feature can be found by Games > Dumpster Dive.
Click "Dive!" once every five minutes to get a free item. These items are donated by other users so the value will vary greatly.

Daily Chance
These are the red carts that you see on the main landing pages: Gaia, My Gaia, GCash, Shops, Forums, World, and Games. If you log in for 6 of 7 days, the carts turn yellow and give out better prizes.
Click the carts to earn rewards.
Pro-tip: A browser extension called BetterGaia allows you to collect all the Daily Chance carts from one page. I'm not saying you need this, but it does make it less of a chore.

Cash Tree
Watch the videos (and/or do offers) to earn Gaia cash from the Cash Tree (found in the header). This is a slow process. Keep at it! You'll have 99gc, 249gc or 499gc before you know it! Use the cash to buy items you like or items to sell.

• • Other Ways to Earn Gold
These are ways that many Gaians make gold. Try them out. See which ones work best for you. For the most part, Gaians find a favorite method of making gold and stick to it. The various forums are filled with little communities of Gaians who are dedicated to these different methods of earning gold.
These methods are listed in no particular order.

Play the Market
It takes money to earn money. This method can be risky as you can lose a lot of gold by making the wrong investments. It can also bring high rewards. This will take some time in order to learn which items are best to buy and sell.

Collect Trash
Collect paper, bugs, flowers and trash on either Towns or Towns 2. Sell the trash. Check the guides to find the most efficient methods.

Fish
Play Gaia Fishing. Sell the fish. This game takes practice to catch the rare fish. The rarer the fish; the more the payout.

Booty Grab
Booty Grab is a game that's free to play and gives gold as a reward. At first, it's hard to figure out how it works. Once you get the hang of it, you'll see that it's very simple.

Sell Art
Art sells for a hefty price on Gaia. Are you a decent, good or great artist? There's a niche for you!

Alchemy
Alchemy is a feature on Gaia that requires formulas, ingredients and gold to craft items. This will take planning. Do it wrong, and you'll lose a lot of gold. Do it correctly and you can make your Gaia living off of this feature.
You'll often find Philosopher's Caches in Dumpster Dive. Instead of selling, trashing or donating the caches, you could craft items to sell.

GoFusion
GoFusion can be found under the GoFusion tab. Charms are "fused" together to create items. Often, the fused items cost more than the individual charms. You can make a profit by buying charms, fusing items and then selling those items.
Watch out. Not all fused items are worth selling. Fuse wisely.
You can get free charms through the Daily Chance. It's possible to could save them up, fuse an item and get more gold than you would had you sold the charms separately.

Marketplace

Users may purchase a marketplace pass 3 days (72 hours) after the creation of their account. ***source

You can sell 10 items at a time. Some users can sell 20 items at a time. How?
This ability is unlocked through the Achievements system. Here's the breakdown of what you need to do (as taken from the I ❤ Achievements Guide).
Member ➔ Statustician ➔ Consumer ➔ Market Browser ➔ Junior Trader, Trader ➔ Wall Street ➔ Profitable, Entrepreneur ➔ Money Never Sleeps ➔ Tycoon

In short, this will require you to:

Register your account. ➔ Update your status. ➔ Buy an item from a Gold Shop. ➔ Search for an item on the MP. ➔ List an item on the MP and have it sell. ➔ Sell more than 10,000 gold worth of items on the MP. ➔ Sell an item for 2% more than the ABP. ➔ Sell more than 1,000,000 gold worth of items on the MP.

What item is someone wearing?
There are a few ways to go about this.

In the drop down menu below the avatar (in forums and profiles) click "View Equipped List." You'll see a listing of all the items that the user has on. Preview each item until you find what you're looking for. (Some users have this turned off.)
Go to their profile. Some users have a section in their profile that shows what they have equipped.
Ask them. Talking on the forums? Just ask. Or~ you can PM them or leave a profile comment. Beware -- some users don't want to be asked about items, don't want PMs and/or don't want profile comments. This will usually be stated on their profile.
Did all else fail? You're in luck. ^ ___^ You can ask users at the What's That Item thread to identify the items! Be sure to save or screen shot the avatar (and upload the image) when you ask. Do not use the url of the avatar itself. If the person changes their avatar, the image you used will also change.

Gaia holds site-wide events throughout the year. Some staples that usually occur each year are centered around: Valentine's Day, Gaia Anniversary (Feb 18th), Summer (uhhh... June ish???), Halloween, Winter Holidays (Often starts 12 days before Dec 25th), New Year.

Some special mentions: St. Patrick's Day, American Independence Day (July) American Thanksgiving (November), Back to School (August),

And other random ones may also appear throughout the year with various themes. Halloween and Xmas are usually the biggest events of the year.

Um, I can't get Gaia to load. XD I'm going to type this up while I wait. And post when Gaia is working.

First of all, I think the best way to go about this is to spend time looking at art shops before you make one. Pay attention to what formats are good and things you should include in your shop (samples, prices, etc). You'll also need to pay attention to how much the art is worth. Try to find art that is comparable to yours to get an idea of what it sells for.

One way to sell art on Gaia is to create your own art shop thread in the Art Shops Forum. Here, users will come to you looking for art. Be sure to keep your thread active so people see it (like you do with your quest thread).

Another thing, be sure to check out the Pricing and Suggestions forum to get an idea of how much art is worth.

Like I said, pay attention to how people run their shops. You'll see whether it's better to have set prices, to ask for tips, to ask for bribes, etc. No matter what, on Gaia, you can only sell art in exchange for gold or items. No cash and no real money.

This is a wonderful guide for making an art shop. It's a long read, but it's awesome.
