It'd only be a matter of time, really. She'd been calmly and patiently biding her time until then. Claude did not reply to the text, even if the thought of being a smart a** did cross her mind. After all, it could have conflicted with a duty, but it didn't. Her no-reply was the indicator she was coming. Within thirty minutes, no sooner and no later, there was a knock on the door.

The knock came and the knot in his stomach tightened as a noose around the hangman's neck. He'd put the phone away after texting Claude, not wanting to log in to Twitter out of habit and become sullen again.
Lex had invited her so they could fix this Twitter mess. Or at least start to build a foundation for it.
He'd made ample coffee for the two of them, but no cake this time. Lex answered the door promptly, offering a half smile to his sister. Formalities weren't necessary, and he ushered her into the small sitting room, standing awkwardly even if she sat.
Words were rarely hard for Lex, but today none came.

There was no smile on Claude's part, and she quietly went along, letting herself be ushered to the sitting room. She did take a seat on Ami's ******** tacky arm chair, since it was Lex's stage right now. Her legs were crossed and her fingers steepled over her lap as she stared at her brother with a lidded gaze, her mouth in a firm line. She then waited, not failing to notice that he was currently at a loss.

Obviously, Lex was going to have to talk first. He had invited her after all, and this was his idea... still, he wasn't thrilled to have the talk. Hands folded behind his back, the tall Lifer sighed and bit his lower lip before beginning to speak.
"Look... I messed up, I was out of line and said things I shouldn't have." He didn't look at her, but the spot next to the armchair that better not get any dirt on it or his head would be put on a pike in the home's garden.
"I'm sorry." He muttered, fingers squeezing one another in a vice.

The silence on Claude's part lingered for quite some time after Lex's mutter, until she finally spoke up, her tone even, but no less cutting. "You did. The patronizing doesn't bother me. I can overlook it." She started, her fingers still steepled as she stared at him. "To nonchalantly throw around the suggestion that you'd disappear again--I can't." There was a pause before she laid into him. "I was a functioning human being before you selfishly disappeared. I laughed more, I smiled more, and I could charm an elevator full of strangers by the time I reached my floor. Then you disappeared without a word, and I had a ******** mental breakdown. I dropped out of school, the time between your disappearance and waking up at Deus is a haze, and the only thing I can recall in painful clarity is the funeral for an empty casket. Now? I don't laugh, I don't smile, and I can't hold a conversation for five minutes without getting tired, and I'd rather drive needles under my nails. I hate making connections with others. It's exhausting. I'd rather be alone. I'm not proud of the person I've crumbled to. I'm clawing my way back up--slowly but surely-- so you don't get to - ever - throw the threat of disappearing again into my face for the sake of your shallow and bruised ego." After that incredibly long winded rail, Claude released a soft breath, and already looked tired. " This is the last time we're talking about it. It's never to come up again. At all. Do you understand?"

Patronizing. Selfish. Pain. Exhausting. Shallow and bruised. Each word bit like an angry hornet and he visibly recoiled when Claude finished giving him a piece of her mind. Lex actually had to sit on the couch, lower lip bit in shame like a scolded child.
He was the worst brother, a terrible human being; using Claude's pain as a stepping stool to make himself look better in some stupid a** twitter argument that would have no bearing on the way things were in the real world. HIs gray gaze bored holes into the pristine carpet whole body silent and still.
Lex did not cry. Crying was for children and the people that were too weak to not show their weakness his mother's voice rang clearly in his head. He couldn't cry, crying just opened him up to more visits from the shadows his father sternly warned him. So Lex hadn't cried, and we wouldn't start - not even for Claudia.
"I'm sorry." He said again, hollow and hoarse. "It won't happen again."

That was for damn sure. She didn't need to say anything else on the matter, and it was done. For good. Never to be brought up again. Claude released another sigh, her postured relaxed as she let herself lean back and get absorbed into the tacky arm chair. Her hands left their steepled position to instead hang off the sides of the arms. "What's wrong, Lex?" She asked.

Lex took his time with his reply, keeping Ami's chastisement in mind. "You can't speak to your sister without patronizing her." She'd told him, a tally on the list of what made him a bad person. He started, leaning forward on the couch and folding his hands in his lap. Lex didn't want to talk to Claude like this; she was forever his baby sister in a dirty, torn frilly dress. "Claudia, it's nothing to concern yourself with." Lex sighed, shaking his head at her. She was such a stubborn little a**, no idea who she got it from. "It's nothing that involves you, sweetie."

She didn't look convinced, and she especially didn't look impressed with Lex's reasoning. Heavy sarcasm on the word reasoning. "I'm not five anymore." Claude drawled. "So drop the sweetie, and you're my brother." Of course it was something to concern herself with

Lex wasn't going to budge any time soon. "Alright, Cinnamon Roll. I'll drop the sweetie." He smirked, winking at her as he said the childhood nickname.
"D'you want a glass of wine? Shot? We don't have beer, we both detest it." Lex got up from the seat, busying himself. Claude didn't need to see him, nor hear him, break down into a puddle of self hate. Not today, not tomorrow.

Ugh. Briefly one corner of her mouth twitched in mild irritation at the nickname, but she said nothing on that matter. Lex may not be budging, but she wasn't going to either. "I deserve an explanation."

Lex rolled his eyes as he poured himself a glass of red wine, and another for his sister. "You deserve to pull that stick out of your own a**, Claudia."
