Ever since her visit to Ink's tattoo place and the stallion giving her his old drawing tablet, Caramell had not put the thing down. For the next few days after that she was absorbed into it, hardly even paused to eat or drink. All she wanted to do was to get better at drawing on this tablet and not accidentally erase her drawing in the process.
Little by little she felt she was getting the hang of it. Weeks passed and she had felt she mastered how to sketch and line. She figured out how to change brush sizes, how to open new layers, add layer masks and effects, fill in colors, add highlights and shadows! Couple months after and she was able to make beautifully colored pieces.....though not as good as some others she found online. But that only served to push her further.
Today she was on her bed working on a stylized comic of Paws and Rev, her siblings, in a sort of fantasy-esque setting, each donned in personality fitting armor ready to take on the boss via some epic dance scene (because why not?! It made mamma giggle!). But something was off.....and the pink filly just couldn't figure out what. Everything she did today she didn't like. It wasn't pleasing her at all or it wasn't coming out how she imagined in her head. It was just one of those days where no matter how hard she tried she just was't feeling it.
Grunting, Caramell rolled over on her bed onto her back, legs wiggling furiously in the air in frustration. She did this for about ten seconds before going rigid and grunting one last time through the pen in her mouth before flopping back over on her side. "Uuhhgbleeh." she groaned to herself, eyeing her tv. The anime dvd she had left playing in the background had finished its second play through of all seven episodes and was back on the menu screen, looping the same silly song and same silly dance.
'Would be awesome if mine could just move...maybe then I wouldn't have to fight so hard over this damn hand.' she hissed inwardly, rolling back onto her back and staring at the ceiling. Caramell took a deep breath and attempted to close her eyes for a break.....but her gaze kept flickering back towards the TV, mindlessly tapping one foot in air to the beat of the music. And then it hit her.
What if she could anime things?
What if her pictures and silly comics could actually move just like that?!
Flipping back onto her belly, the little filly slid off her bed and scrambled over to her laptop, nosing the top up and starting to peck away furiously at the keys. She searched topics on animation, how to begin and what would be needed. It seemed like a lot at first, would require programs she didn't have and a whole lot of patience.....but then in a way so did drawing. Look how long it took her to get making still pictures down on the tablet? And even then she knew she still had a ways to go.... so why not animation? It was worth a shot wasn't it?
Before she knew it, almost two hours had gone by as she lost herself to the mighty inter-web of animation. She almost didn't hear her mother all her down to dinner as her ear flicked backwards but a huge smile spread across her face. "Coming!!!!" she shouted, closing her laptop and darting to her bed to save the progress on her current piece before moving the tablet to her desk.
"MOM! MOM MOM!" she shouted as she scrambled downstairs and skidded to a halt in the kitchen, big red eyes wide and sparkling. "MOM! I know what I want to do! It's going to take a while, lots of learning and saving to get what I need but...but... I just.... I JUST GOTTA!" she beamed happily, rushing over to her mother and dancing a circle around the mare, all the while spewing her goals and ideas of becoming an animator, what she'd animate, even how she might get a job to earn money to get what she needed! OH MAYBE INK WOULD HELP....if she gave him tons of drawings to use....
The ideas just kept coming and coming until the little filly had settled her heart on the matter. "Maybe I could even animate dance lessons for you to use at your studio Mom!" she grinned proudly, shoving a slice of bread into her mouth, still rambling on as she chewed.
