Generally when Gideon went on a delivery run, he was alone. There was nobody interested in helping and really he didn't mind. It was his work, his fare, it made sense that he should heft it himself. This time, though, he had a little girl shuffling along beside him.

Talia had been having issues acclimating to life on land. The busyness of the city versus the busyness ocean wasn't so bad, but she had all new limbs and an entirely new world to explore. Everything was new and usually frightening at first, but the man with the beard was always willing to help. For that reason, she had demanded she be able to help him rather than just serve as company not only while he harvested, but while he delivered too. While he rolled the hand truck stacked with crates, she carried a small basket half-full of berries and walked beside him. every time he smiled to her she would smile back. She liked him.

The walk to the bakery was fair, though, and Gideon worried that the child, previously unaccustomed to arms and legs, might grow tired. There must have been some strength in her limbs though as she kept pace well into town. If worst came to worse, a piggy back ride would not be denied. For now, though, they simply walked together. Talia was a but meeker, almost hiding behind his legs when the streets got busy or they had to cross traffic, but he didn't mind. Come to find out, a young Lileep was rather good company.

On his walks to town after seeing his favorite steel, Brenny reflected that he normally didn't see two baskets of berries pass him by. Plump, rich, juicy berries. Probably picked on just the right day. Had these people found them in his forest? No, they were coming from the opposite direction. He decided to follow.

Despite warnings of strangers, the celebi boy tended to want to meet them. Strangers weren't scary, at least most of them weren't, and this one had a kid with him. That put him in the category of Nice. Brenny closed the gap between them, standing on tiptoe to see exactly what type of berry was in Gideon's basket.

"Where'd you get these?" he asked. "Can I have one?"

It wasn't unusual for pokemon to seem interested in what he carried. Gideon wasn't even aware they were being followed until Talia turned and shuffled even closer to him. He peered over his shoulder to see a rather brightly-colored boy following, and stopped just in time for the boy to round the corner and try to peek in the crates. At least he hadn't dove in with his hands.

Talia meanwhile smiled softly to the boy. Obviously he was like her, look at those colors! She hadn't known that people-pokemon existed all the way under the ocean but they were everywhere up here! Not all of them had tentacles or yellow eyes, but most had arms and legs just like humans, and so they were sort of the same. She was too shy to initiate conversation, though, and just stood there with her basket hanging from both hands.

"I grow them," Gideon told the child and half-smiled. "Sure, you can have one." One berry itself wasn't going to put him out of business. A handful wouldn't either, of the more common types. Kids could get out of hand pretty fast, though. "What's your favorite? Talia here likes the pecha berries." He wanted t get the girl to meet other kids, to socialize a little. It seemed like she was stuck with him, so why not start now? Talia nodded and smiled to Gideon, then back to the little boy.

Brenny was quick to return Talia's smile. She seemed nice, a bit quiet. "You grow them?" he asked, wide eyed as he turned his attention back to Gideon. "I like the blue ones," he said. Well, to be far, his favorites were: the blue ones, the red ones, the pink ones, the orange ones and the yellow ones, in no particular order. "I live in an apartment now so we can't grow anything, but I have a forest. I guess I help them grow." he did like to check on them every so often. Once a day, at least. And while it seemed that nothing changed in the course of a day, Brenny was always happy to be there.

"Pecha berries are good," he said, looking towards Talia again. "I like all sorts. Connie and I don't eat meat, so we eat lots of berries and salad and stuff." He paused, and momentarily forgetting the promised berry said, "Hey, let's be friends! My name's Brenny. Want to play?"

"We do," Gideon nodded. He reached in and plucked a blue berry from the top of the pile and offered it to the child. "Brenny," apparently. He wondered what this particular poke-kid's life was like.

Talia looked to Gideon questioningly, and the man made a face that said he was thinking, and the children might not like what he had to say.

"Well, we have to make this delivery first, but you can come with us if you want! Once we drop it off, then you can play, okay? The bakery's not far from here. Just two blocks." He knew for a fact the owner welcomed children and pokemon alike, so he didn't imagine it being an issue.

"I'm Talia," the Lileep said with a nod, even if Gideon had already said it. "The berries taste real good, right?" She turned to Gideon again. "Can I have one?"

"Of course, hon, go ahead. Just one, though."

Talia plucked a sweet berry from the pile and popped it in her mouth. He allowed it because his weight count wouldn't be off simply at the loss of two berries.

Brenny was not at all put off by the idea that he would have to wait to play. He was delighted by the invitation. "Really?" He beamed. "Yeah! I wanna come! Who are we taking it to? Are they nice? Do they sell berries?" If they did, he hoped it was for cheaper than what the super market charged for them! They were expensive. He plopped the berry into his mouth, only falling silent long enough to chew and swallow it. He smiled at the taste. They were even better than the ones in the forest! Maybe berries, like people, did better when someone was looking after them.

"Hi Talia!" Even though he'd heard her name before, it was always more fun to hear someone introduce themselves. "Yes! They are! Better than the ones in my forest, even! They're the best ever!" he looked up at Gideon. "Can you come take care of my forest with me? You can be an honorary celebi!"

Oh wow, an invitation to wait was met with quite a bit more exuberance than he'd expected. Gideon smiled and nodded. "Sure. Sometimes it's different people, but the owner's name is Ellie. She's nice, but she doesn't sell berries. She uses them to make poffins and pastries and things. They're very good, actually." There was no rule against people eating poffins, and besides, she made some damn good berry tarts for people.

Talia's smile grew and she giggled at the boy's enthusiasm. Lots of people on the street didn't seem too happy, but this one was! Plus she'd get to play! She didn't really know any games but she'd bet Brenny would teach her.

"Yeah?" she asked.

Gideon chuckled and shook his head. "I'm afraid I don't have the time, really, but I can give you some pointers? What kind grows out by you?" He had actually gotten most of his starter seeds from the forest itself. Rarer types had sometimes needed special ordering.

"She makes Poffins?" Brenny's enthusiasm only seemed to grow. He remembered how much the vanilite he'd met in the woods had enjoyed Poffins. He himself had only had them rarely. They were a treat that cost money, and they were relatively unnecessary. Especially when one was trying to save money for a bigger house. "I have a little money let's all get one!"

"Yeah! I used to live in the forest but then I found Connie and came to the city! I was all alone, but now I've found lots of friends! You're one of them! You and your Daddy are!" He glanced up at Gideon, shaking his head. "All sorts, but not by me exactly. I'm a celebi, so I take care of the whole forest. But my berries don't grow like this." Maybe they got more water where Gideon was. "Do you sing to them? Maybe you have a shaymin in your backyard!"

"She does! Pokepuffs and pastries too." Gideon got a discount himself for being her supplier. She claimed the berries were worth more than the pastries she put out, but that didn't seem right. He only had to tend to them and harvest them. She had to transform them.

Daddy? Talia looked up at Gideon and Gideon looked down to her. They'd been purely on a first-name basis thus far, especially considering the man hadn't known at first if Talia belonged to anyone else. They shared a little smile and in that moment he felt that maybe they'd bonded a little more.

"No, no, let me get it. I get a special discount." Besides, he'd bet he had more money than a little kid. He and Talia could bond over poffins, it'd be nice.

"Oh, no. I can't sing. Maybe, though. I've had a lot of practice."

Oh boy! Poffins and a new friend! Talia was grinning ear-to-ear, absolutely excited about this errand-turned-adventure.

"What's a Celebi?" she asked then. She figured he was like her, but she was no Celebi.

"It's a pokemon, like you," Gideon responded with a smile, "A rare one, actually." He gave Brenny a nod.

"Oooh~" Talia cooed. "I lived in the ocean, but then I couldn't any more. It's okay, though. We live in a house and my bed is real soft! Much softer than a rock. I don't have to wait for food to come to me, either! We eat 'breakfast' and 'lunch' and 'dinner'."

Gideon smiled. A normal meal seemed to be too much for the little girl. Sometimes they skipped lunch. Her species just mustn't be used to eating all that much was all. She'd mentioned trapping things in her 'tentacles' to eat down at the bottom of the ocean and he couldn't imagine an immobile creature was especially prolific.

"Pokepuffs?" Brenny echoed, wistfully. He'd seen them, but certainly never had one before. "Really? You're so nice! Thank you, Talia's Daddy!" He had apparently missed the look between the two. He would have hugged the man had Gideon not been carrying boxes.

"I met a shaymin once. She was looking for a particular flower. But I don't remember what kind of flower it was. She had some in her hair and she was very pretty." He hesitated at Talia's question, only to find Gideon answering it for him. He beamed. "Yeah! And celebi take care of the forest! I've met a couple who lived in the ocean, two of my best friends did. They're seel. They live on the beach with their Mommy and Daddy. I live in an apartment! Its kind of small, but Connie sleeps on the couch and I have a bed! It's better than the log I was staying in. And I'm not alone!"

Gideon nodded. Yes, pokepuffs as well, although they were more expensive and undoubtedly more sugary. He wasn't sure this Connie fellow would like to receive and especially sugared-up Brenny due to a stranger's gift.

"We live right by the beach," Talia said with a nod, "We have lots of neighbors, and some of them are like me. I mean, like us! I've never met a Shaymin." She hadn't met much of anyone, though.

The trio reached the bakery and Talia scurried forward unasked to open the door. Gideon thanked her and entered, spotting a familiar face behind the counter. There was a gated area off to the right where pokemon were welcome to socialize, but at the moment it was empty save a quietly napping Cherrim.

Gideon grinned and raised a hand in greeting to Ellie while he waited for the children to enter.

"Hey!" the young woman chimed, and then smiled down at the children with him, "Who's this?!"

Talia smiled shyly. "Talia."

"Yeah. This is Talia and Brenny," he replied, pointing to each child in turn. Ellie gave him a look that clearly said, are they yours? "Brenny is just a friend of Talia's." Which of course implied that Talia was more than a tagalong.

"Oh!" Ellie chimed, "Hello! It's nice to meet you! Brenny, Talia."

"Do you want me to bring everything back, or...?"

"Oh, sure. Come on back." The tan-skinned woman motioned for Gideon to come and he hefted a box from the stack and offered it down to Talia, who placed her basket thereon. Ellie held open the half-door barring the area behind the counter from the main room and Gideon went in, carrying the heavy crate all on his lonesome.

Talia looked to Brenny and motioned for him to follow to the glass case that held the treats. She had heard about poffins, Gideon had even made her some, and she was excited to try another. "Which one do you want?" The colorful baked goods lined two full shelves, marked by flavor.

"I'll introduce you to Aoife and Niall sometime, then!" Brenny decided. "They're really nice, at least Aoife is. Niall's kind of cranky, but I think he's just that way around me. He thinks I like his sister. Last time I played with them he got kind of cranky because we were playing and I was sitting by her!" The celebi boy made a face. He didn't like arguing, and he didn't like Niall being angry, but Aoife was rather pretty.

"Shaymin are rare like celebi, Brenny explained. "I only met one once, and she was really nice. I like making friends!" He entered the bakery, taking in his surroundings. He was interrupted, however, by Ellie. He looked up and gave the woman a bright smile. "Hi!" he greeted her. "I'm Brenny, and Talia's Daddy invited me to visit you!"

He followed Talia to the glass case, peering inside. "Which one tastes best?" he asked.

Ellie grinned to the little boy and nodded.

"Well, you're certainly welcome here!" That being said she left the kids to it, figuring they couldn't do much damage with everything behind glass cases. Regardless, she did plan to keep half an eye on them, just in case.

"I dunno," Talia admitted, not taking her eyes from the poffins in the case, "What do you like? I like the sweet ones, but I've never seen 'em with sprinkles like that." She was eying the row of pink ones, mostly decorated to discern from one another. The berries were listed on little tabs before the poffins but Talia really wasn't the best at reading yet. She hadn't been on land long!

Meanwhile Gideon returned to take in the other crate, smiling to himself as he spotted the children perusing Ellie's wares. He and the owner shared a glance and he nodded, then heading back to load this crate in as well.

Brenny considered Talia's questoon, after flashing a smile in Ellie's direction. She was really nice, wasn't she? He would have to come back again. Maybe with Connie! "I like the sweet ones too," he said. "I don't like the bitter tasting ones." He made a face at an apparent memory. His brother had brought one home and offered it to him. Blegh! "You have to watch out for those. They look good and tasty, but then You taste them and find out they tricked you!"

He pressed his face against the glass. "You said you like pecha berries?" he asked. "Some of these say what kind of berries they have in them. I bet you'd like this one!" he pointed to one of the Poffins. "The Pokepuffs look good too. Are they made with berries?"

Ah, it was a good thing Gideon had never made her any bitter ones, that didn't sound nice. She wasn't totally sure what 'bitter' tasted like, really, but the face Brenny made told her it wasn't very good. She eyed the poffin the Celebi had pointed out and tilted her head. He probably wasn't trying to trick her, right? He had no reason to. She turned back to him and smiled.

Ellie was nearby and able to pipe up when Brenny asked a question only she or her staff could really answer. "Some of them are," she replied with a nod, "Not all of them."

Talia looked curiously up to the woman and then down at the sweets the next case over. Oh, those looked good. She wasn't able to read the sign that declared their types or what sizes they came in, but they did look good!

Gideon emerged then, wiping his hands on his pants and coming back to the kids.

"Did you pick?" he asked.

Talia thrust her finger against the glass. "That one."

"Okay. Brenny?"
