"Did you need like, tools or anything?"

Gale could have knocked, but didn't, pushing open Otto's door and sticking his head in like it was just a regular occurrence. Considering he lived just across the hall, it wasn't that hard or that difficult to respond to Otto's original request for help.

No questions were asked (yet), just Gale with his brows raised questioningly about the tools.

"Uuuuuuuh..." Otto stood in the chaos of his apartment, from Gale to the walls. "Yeah. Yea tools'd be good." He was accustomed to gale being nearby, and having him just pop in wasn't an issue in the least. Especially since Otto had invited him earlier anyway.

"And maybe some actual knowledge on how to use them." The room was being organized; a pile of things he looked to be tossing, along with things he wanted to keep.

"I wanna like.. paint the walls or somethin'. Maybe get a new rug or two when I got the time." He drawled his ideas, ruffling his hair in thought. "I wanna make this place look new."

Gale thought for a moment, leaning against the doorframe. "I think we have a hammer and nails and a broom and maybe a screwdriver in our place," he said musingly. "From when we knocked down the wall between 221 and 223 to make one big room together and did all of the redecorating, I can grab them."

He peered around at the chaos, wondering but still not asking. "Do you have a color that you were thinking of? Hot pink?" Gale added, just to be obnoxious.

His head rolled to give Gale the biggest most exaggerated eye roll to accompany it. "You're sooo ********' funny. I was thinkin' orange. Or a bright blue. I dunno." He then gestured to the bedroom wall that separated it and the den.

"I wanna take out that wall. That way this room will get all the light that the bedroom has. just make this place one big-a** bachelor."

"Also I wanna take the beds outta here and trade'em in for a smaller bed. Like a double."

"Thank you, I try," said Gale modestly, and then added, "You could do blue for almost all the walls and then just have one orange wall to add color, since I think if you did all the walls in orange, you'd go blind. Or mad. Accent color, I think is what it's called."

He glanced at the wall in question. "I don't think that'll be too much of a problem, we'd just have to get some sledgehammers from the utilities and have at it."

A pause, and then -

"How're you going to get a bed back to Deus?"

"Lookit you mister fancy Interior Design expert." Otto mocked him, but actually considered his advice seriously. He'd likely go with what was suggested.

"The quarter master don't got any? Or I could trade with someone..." He scratched his head. "Or I'll just keep one of the beds and send the other one to the corner." As if Deus had a street corner.

"I feel like knockin' down a wall with a sledgehammer will be the best kind of theropy. I'm game for that."

This time it was Gale's turn to roll his eyes.

"I just redecorated my own room, git," he said pointedly. "And I'm sure that the quartermaster might have some, you can probably just run down there and check."

He gave a little nod. "Right, two sledgehammers it is. Give me a few minutes."

And he disappeared out of the room once more.

Approximately ten minutes later (the utilities room was farther away than he remembered, and the sledgehammers were heavy), Gale returned, lugging the tools behind him. He dropped them unceremoniously into the middle of Otto's room and brushed his hands together.

"There you go," he said, gesturing at them. "Have at it."

"Sweet mercy..." Otto drawled, staggering backward from the unexpected thud the tools made as they dropped. They would do some heavy damage. "Okay... help me clear the way first."

He led Gale to the entertainment unit that sat against the wall in question. Television, stereo, DVD shelf. The works. "Help me move this crap to the other side of the room? Then you get to help me destroy a wall."

He glanced at all of the stuff, and then at Otto.

"Let's start with the smaller stuff, like the DVD shelf," said Gale. "And once we get that, we'll unhook everything and start moving the electronics, so they don't get all tangled and mixed up."

He reached for the shelf in question, gesturing for Otto to grab the other side.

Otto nodded, and got on the other side, helping Gale lift the shelf. "Thanks for comin' over. I couldn't do it by myself. As much as I wanted to."

"No worries," said Gale, as he began stepping carefully backwards, not wanting to trip over anything and drop the shelf. "Happy to help."

And he was, surprisingly. Maybe six months, a year ago, he would have been snarky and scowling, but now there was no resentment, no annoyance. Instead, he felt calm and relaxed around Otto, which was peculiar, but rather nice all the same.

"It's nice to change things up," said Gale, as he reached the other side of the room. "Everyone needs change."

"This'll at least be good change. Everythin' else has been complicated and unpleasant." He grumbled, ambling along as he moved the shelf. "Keep questionin' why I'm doin' what I'm doin, cause I feel like I forget why I'm in this position."

He set it down with Gale's help, huffing a sigh.

"I asked Cami to leave. I don't wanna come home and expect her to be here, so I'm turnin' it into a whole new place that's just mine."

"You're here because who else would I torment if you weren't?" Gale replied with a slight smirk, but he understood the sentiment as he rubbed his hands onto his pant legs, easing the sting of the edges of the shelf against his palms.

His eyebrows rose a little as he went back to the other side and began peering around back of the television set to unplug things.

"Sounds like a good idea," said Gale, voice slightly muffled. "Turning over a new leaf, and all. This is your place for you to be, your place to call your own."

"It's the easiest way I can think of to adjust." He drawled, helping Gale unplug and wrap up electronics. "I think I'm done agonizin' over everythin' I done wrong. It ain't helpin' me be better no more. It's just holdin' me back from moving on."

He nodded, curling a wire around his fingers.

"So now you...move forward," said Gale, picking up another cord. "And I over think everything already, so I know the sentiments well, but I suppose now you can stop over thinking and just go."
