Sun dappled the ground through the thick canopy of trees, seeming to glitter as the branches swayed in the breeze. It was a calm afternoon and Sanuye had strayed from the dry canyons to look for elderberry. The purple berries were known to have many beneficial properties, most notably as an anti-inflammatory, and she was always eager to add variety to her medical supplies. As she moved through the wooded area, her eyes were constantly scanning for their target, but a little voice at the back of her mind murmured that she may not be able to find it. Not because it wasn't there, but because she wouldn't be able to recognize it. Perhaps she would confuse it for something else and pass it by?

Frowning to herself, she pressed on, ignoring her self-doubts. She concentrated harder on the task at hand. But with her eyes so focused on the canopy overhead, Sanuye failed to pay attention to potential dangers below. In a single moment, her left forearm became entangled in a mass of catbriar. A sharp inhale of surprise and pain scratched her throat and she stumbled, causing the vines to graze her skin. She sighed with some exasperation, angry at herself for panicking instead of calmly removing her leg before the thorny vines could do damage. She really was no good at anything...

After a moment or two, the mare had freed herself from the tangle and she stepped off into a clear area. Lying beside one of the trees, she proceeded to tend to her slight wounds with a few various items she carried in a bag. But as she stared at these items, doubt filled her head. Did she really know what was best...? Perhaps she should simply let the bits of blood dry and let the wounds alone? They were just grazes...but then, what about infection? A bandage, then. Maybe she should just go find that elderberry first. Or at least--oh, for goodness sake...

Sanuye sighed again and slammed her eyes shut, willing herself to focus. She was once again so consumed by her own thoughts that she didn't notice a presence nearby.

Kheelan had been wandering around the surrounding area away from his family. For some reason he felt the urge to travel a little bit. Not to stay where he and Adelia live with their children. Both hers, his and theirs. Though his Imre travels and doesn't really see him often. His wings flutter as a gentle breeze plays with their thin membranes. His kind eyes look around at the surroundings. It is an interesting day to say the least.

He walks along the thorny bushes and as he draws closer he spots a mare. Stopping he watches as she untangles herself from one of the bushes. He knows that they must hurt a little bit. The mare doesn't notice him and as he moves a little closer he can see the blood and cuts. Nothing that won't heal in time. Yet he can probably help quicker. Clearing his throat he looks at the mare.

"Pardon me. I don't mean to intrude, but can I help you? I can probably heal those cuts of yours if you would like. It's simple enough for me to do. Even with my weak unicorn capabilities. Though any deeper or worse then I wouldn't be able to help. Would you allow me to heal your cuts?"

To say that Sanuye was surprised to suddenly hear a voice in the midst of her inner-turmoil would've been a complete understatement. Adrenaline shocked her like electricity and she nearly tripped backwards. Recovering, she stuttered several times before taking a deep breath and bursting into laughter (maybe awkwardly--she severely hoped not).

She only took a moment to draw in the appearance of the newcomer, noting his traits, most especially his horn. A lump formed in her throat, but she swallowed it down. There was a part of her that possessed breed envy. Unicorns, even half-breeds, were capable of things she would never be able to do. Instead of feeling bitter about it, though, she had learned to make those thoughts push her to work even harder.

Sanuye wondered if she'd stared for too long at his horn and brought her mind back down to earth. He was kind, she could see that.

"Thank you very much," she started almost bashfully, eyes darting to the ground. "I'd feel terrible if you spent time on something like this, though. They're just scratches, I'm sure I can--heal them," she finished, shocked by her own hesitance. Didn't she have confidence that she could heal them herself? Her heart pounded in her head.

Of all the reactions what he hoped not to happen did happen. He startled the mare and she quickly stepped back away from him. Worry and concern flicker in his eyes as he relaxes his posture trying to convey he means no harm. The mare is also nervous. The sound of her laugh makes him slightly uncomfortable and a bit guilty. Should he have been louder approaching? Give her time to hear him? He has no clue. Or maybe this was something that would have happened anyway. He had no idea.

She stares at him and all he can think of is that she is taking in his appearance. He knows he isn't bad looking. Yet he knows he is a mix of many breeds.. Having encountered some other soq he is used to being called a mutt. Though that hasn't been spoken about him for years. Is his appearance making her uncomfortable? Can pink and blue really be intimidating? Not that he has a choice in his coat colors. That's all genetics. Yet he wouldn't put himself as intimidating.

When she speaks he smiles gently. He brushes her words away and notices the hesitation in her voice. He gives a light chuckle."Oh it wouldn't be a bother. I am used to healing scratches and bruises. With having five children I am used to it. A scratch here, bruise there. Wounds from roughhousing among my sons. It's really no problem at all. Please. Allow me. Don't feel bad about it either. I don't mind." He steps closer slowly and leans his head down and focuses his energy into knitting the skin together. After a few minutes the skin looks as though it never opened and he steps back and looks at the mare."There! As good as new."

Watching her with a gentle gaze he thinks on her wording. It was odd the words and tone she used. She didn't seem confident in her knowledge."So your a healer? That is good. It is always good to meet another healer. The world needs them."

Sanuye wasn't the type to let others know what she was thinking or feeling, so there was no way she was going to stand there and explain to this kind stallion how she simply startled easily and that it wasn't his fault. Instead of making conversation about her flaws, she would simply move forward in a situation and hope things smoothed themselves out. It wasn't the best of tactics, but it was all the mare knew how to do at present.

He did seem completely kind, of that she was now certain. Sometimes you could just tell that someone didn't have a bad bone in their body. That's what she felt towards this stallion. And when he mentioned his children, she felt a bit more at ease. She had been learning recently that she felt much more comfortable as the less-than in a situation--that is, the student to a teacher, the younger to an older, and so on. She wasn't quite sure why. Something about taking the edge off expectations, perhaps. It made her feel safer and less...well, culpable, maybe...?

She didn't put up a fight when the male used his magic to heal her. It would've been rude. Besides, it was a rare chance to see the ability in use. Not that she could learn how to use magic just from seeing it multiple times, but it was still interesting just the same.

"Healer?" Sanuye laughed awkwardly, not meeting his eyes. Was she ashamed? "I'm...I've been learning, yes," she explained. "I still have a lot to learn," she stated, giving him an occasional gaze out of respect, though she felt like a filly. To be called "another healer" as if he considered her an equal sent her head reeling. How embarrassing...she was sure she was no where close to the healer he was. But it was because he was kind.

Kheelan smiles a wise smile as he watches her go through her emotions. The most present one he could vaguely pick out was embarrassment. Wanting to reassure her he chuckles softly."We all start somewhere. It's not like we all magically know what to do. It is something each of us are taught. Even I still have things to learn. If I knew everything then it would become boring." Straightening he looks at the mare. Her coat of browns and whites have an interesting pattern to them. He can only guess what she would think of his coat. Blues and pinks. Not the most.. manliest of colors.

Realizing something he is quite astonished by his rudeness. In all this time he had been so worried about helping the mare that he hadn't even remembered to introduce himself. Adelia would be so disappointed in him. Clearing his throat he gives a small bow." My name is Kheelan Iza. My apologies for the rudeness of not introducing myself before. Quite frank, I am quite embarrassed by having not done so beforehand."

The stallion's warm smiles calmed Sanuye considerably, and she found herself gradually relaxing. She mulled over his words as he spoke, taking it in like the sage advice it was. He was right. She was grown up enough to know that much. But for some reason it was difficult to apply that advice to her life. She didn't know why. Maybe she would one day.

Sanuye smiled with amusement when he mentioned life potentially becoming boring. And when he introduced himself, she perked up, still a bit preoccupied with her newly-healed legs.

"N-no, no! Not rude at all, please," she said, attempting to smooth out any rough edges in the atmosphere, "it's my fault since I was injured. I'm Sanuye. It's, um...it's incredible to meet you, and I'm so grateful for your help. And your advice," she said, spitting out the final addition rather hastily. Had "incredible" been too strong of a word? Agh, maybe. But she was always awe-struck in the presence of magic. Drat...
