Araie stopped at the turn in the road, throwing up her hands in frustration. She had passed that unusually shaped rock at least an hour ago, and probably several times today. As much as she hated to admit it, she was horrendously lost. Somehow, a great distance ago, she had taken a wrong turn somewhere and now she had no clue where she was going. Oh, this was just wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Chased by beasts, lost in the forest, and she was running fairly low on food supplies. This had not turned out to be the great adventure that she expected it to be.

Araie turned and started walking towards a path she didn't think she had gone down before, hoping that it would lead her to a place that she could get some supplies. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw a Leaf looking Earthling sitting in a small clearing. She couldn't see much about him since she was behind him, but maybe he would know where she was and where she should go now. There was only one way to find out.

"Excuse me?" Araie said as she walked up to the other Earthling, tapping him on the shoulder. "Could you help me out?"

Dezani jerked at the sudden sound of someone behind him. He had sat down near a tree in hopes of cooling off for a bit and looking over his maps. It had been a particularly warm day, so traveling through had been a bit more difficult than normal. Now there was an Ice girl asking him for help! What was he supposed to do? He didn't exactly think he could help her in any way that he knew of. Really he was no help to anyone - not even himself. Pulling out his journal, he scribbled furiously in it before sticking it out to her. No use in trying to pretend he hadn't heard her.

-What do you need help with?-

Araie tilted her head in mild confusion at the journal in front of her. Was there a particular reason the Leaf boy wasn't speaking to her? She had never really met anybody that acted like him before. Think, Araie. If he's easily spooked, you're first reaction of being loud and in people's faces isn't going to help either of you. Think and then act for once in your life. Araie sat down in front of the Earthling, taking a deep breath.

"Hey there. I got lost out here coming from a village several hours away. I was trying to find the closest place for me to resupply due to the fact that I'm all out of water and pretty low on food. I was hoping that you would know where we were more than I did," Araie explained, keeping her voice calm and quieter than normal. It was quite a struggle not to get louder as she spoke. Being quiet was so inconvenient. She smiled at him pleasantly, hoping that it would put his mind at ease. Then again, it might just make the situation worse. She doubted she had a very nice smile. She was sure she looked more angry than anything else. At least that's what most people said about her. She always looked angry or annoyed.

Dezani chewed on his bottom lip, concerned about what he should do. He had his map routes his father had drawn up for him, but other than that he didn't have much of anything he could do to assist her. He couldn't give her the maps. His father would be beyond furious if he did that, but what was he to do? Sighing, he wrote more into his journal before holding it up to the girl once more.

-Where do you need to go? I can point you in the right direction if I know it. Though I am far more familiar with Isd and Sauti area, I'm sure I can lead you on the right road.- He smiled once he finished, holding it up high for the Ice girl to see as he continued to sit in his spot next to the shaded tree.

Araie watched as the other Earthling chewed on his lip and the expressions on his face. He looked really...worried? Yeah, that was the right word. She couldn't help but wander why he was so worried. Was it something she had said? Did he think that she was going to rob him or try to hurt him or something? She knew she shouldn't have tried to smile. It had probably just freaked him out or something. Sighing softly, she stopped forcing a smile and let her more natural resting expression take over.

She quickly read over what the Leaf boy had written and was quiet for a moment. She didn't want to bother him any more than she already had. Still, she couldn't afford to keep walking around totally lost. She was going to have to depend on someone else, even if she hated it.

"If you could just point me in the direction of the closest village, that would be really helpful. I'll try to pay you back with something," Araie said, opening up her pack and digging around in it. There wasn't a lot in there after she had depleted most of her supplies. Mostly crumbs and a spare quill and some parchment. The other Earthling did seem to love his writing. Maybe she could offer that to him?

Dezani nodded, pulling out his map to look over. He was sure his father had marked the villages on it, just in case he happened to get lost. Though he always followed the trails diligently so he wouldn't. The Ice Earthling was very far from home, but he doubted she had wandered all the way from Zera to Tale just by accident.

-There is no need to pay me back. I can lead you to the next town.- He was still unsure of if he should be helping the girl, but there was nothing else he could reasonably do. She needed as much help as she could get, especially with no supplies, and he was the only one capable of helping her out.

"Ah! Thank you very much! You don't have to actually lead me there if you don't want to, of course. I don't think I'm the best traveling company, especially since I'm a little slower than normal after almost breaking my foot earlier," Araie shrugged. She stood up quickly, keeping her weight off her right leg as much as possible. Her leg was still very sore and walking on it still wasn't the easiest thing in the world. It wasn't healing near as fast as she had wanted it to.

She held her hand out to the Leafling, ready to help him up. If he was going to be kind enough to her to help her out of such a bind, the very least she could do for him was help him off the ground.

Dezani shook his head, standing up quickly and neglecting to take her hand. If she was hurt it would be rude to accept her assistance in case he happened to hurt her more. With how much she was favoring her right leg he was surprised she could even stand, let alone be moving. She had to get supplies though, so maybe he could help her along. If she would let him. She may neglect it for all he knew. Shifting closer, he hesitantly slid his arm under hers to help her walk.

"Here."

Araie was momentarily surprised by the Leafling's actions, causing her to stumble a little bit. She wasn't sure why he was being so helpful to her, especially considering her knew nothing about her, not even her name. Still, she was thankful for the extra support and she sunk against his side a bit more, breathing a sigh of relief when she was able to take more weight off of her leg. She was really going to have to be more careful from now. She couldn't keep depending on others like this. One of these days nobody was going to be around to help her.

Still, this Leafling was not really what she had expected. She had expected somebody to maybe give her directions and that was about it. She certainly hadn't expected a person who barely said a word to her, but was still willing to help practically carry her all the way to the next village. This Leafling was quite the person, that was for sure.

"Thank you so much. That is quite a weight lifted off my...well, leg, as it may be. I honestly wasn't sure how much further I was going to make it on this beat up little leg of mine," Araie laughed as she turned to get a better look at him. "My name is Araie, by the way. I figured I might as well introduce myself since you're helping me walk and all."

Dezani smiled at her and nodded, trying to keep a bit of space between them so the girl, no Araie, wouldn't be too uncomfortable. For once he had been a bit too forward in helping her along - something that had surprised even him. Usually he wasn't one to get so up and personal with someone, especially someone he had just met. But she was injured, so perhaps that was why he did it. Besides, he couldn't just let her walk all the way to the next village in the state she was in after all. There would be no way she would make it in the state she was in. No matter how hard she tried.

Noticing that he was trying to put a bit of distance between them, Araie shifted away from him as much as she could. She was mostly walking on her own now, only leaning against him when her leg decided to hurt particularly bad. She forgot that not everybody was as comfortable as she was with physical closeness as she was. She would have to remember to be more careful when it came to that.

"So do you know anything about the village that we're heading to? Have you been there before or do you just know about it?" Araie asked, reaching up to grab her braid and play with it. She wanted to keep talking to him, but she would try to restrict her questions to things he could answer with a shake of his head so he didn't have to talk. Maybe she should just move away and try to walk on her own. It would probably be more comfortable for him than their current position.

Now that she thought about it, she honestly had no idea how the Leaf Earthlings reacted to her people. She knew very little of their culture, as her parents had been mostly focused on teaching her about her own people. She would have to rectify that and ask around to learn some more about the other races. She wanted to ask her current companion, but he didn't seem to like talking very much. She didn't want to make him have to do something he didn't want to out of a sense of politeness.

Dezani frowned, attempting to think of some way to explain that he had indeed been there without actually speaking to her. She had moved away from him already, most likely because he was making her uncomfortable, but now he wasn't sure what to do about the situation he was in. He could stop long enough to write it down explaining it, but that would take a bit of time. He couldn't just not saying anything either though. Sighing, he paused their walk to pull out his journal and write it down.

-I have been there before, but not very long. Just long enough to trade and get paid.- he wrote out quickly, holding it up to her and waiting for her to read what he had done. Once he was sure she had read it all he nodded and slipped his arm back underneath hers, pulling her closer to help her along once more.

Araie nodded as she shifted their position once more, trying to find a good balance between support without having to be too close to him. She was going to have to remember to not ask him multiple questions at once. It was quite difficult to answer with a shake of the head if she was asking questions that could possibly have two different answers. That had been a rather dumb thing to do, now that she thought of it.

"I'm curious to see it. I spent most of my life in a really small settlement in Zena, so this is all new to me. Although I'm sure you can tell that with how easily I got myself. Apparently I'm not too great at following basic instructions," Araie said, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. She hated admitting any sort of weakness to others, even if it was something simple like the fact that she was easily distracted. She always felt like she was revealing some deep dark secret about herself that she should be keeping secret. "You have excellent script, by the way. I meant to mention it earlier, but I was distracted. It's very pretty." Now that she had given him the compliment she had been meaning to say for quite some time, perhaps it would be best if she remained quiet for once in her life. She didn't want to bother him any more than she already had.

The walk to the next village was not hard, but it was a good distance away from where they were. Dezani didn't really know how Araie had gotten lost this far away, but she did seem to be a bit inept at directions. He really hoped she wasn't traveling too far or he would definitely have to draw up a better map for her. Maybe even get her some new supplies and a weapon of some sort to defend herself. With injuries like that she would be easy prey for bandits and creatures alike.

How exactly had she survived being out and about this long?

She seemed to be really intent on traveling so he wouldn't try stopping her, but perhaps he could suggest some easier options for her or better travel paths. At the mention of his handwriting he blushed. He had tried his hardest to get good at writing so others could easily understand him, so hearing that it was paying off was a nice thing.

After what seemed like forever the two of them finally stopped right outside the next village, Dezani plopping down next to a tree and immediately pulling out his journal. Dezani could feel Araie against his back watching him. It was an odd sensation really, and he wasn’t quite sure what the ice girl was doing. He had been taking notes on the area they were in and marking it down on the map in case Araie decided to wander and get lost again, but now he was momentarily distracted by how close she was. He could write something down to ask what she was doing, but he didn’t want to bother her and embarrass her or anything. Especially if she was just curious about what he was writing down. That wasn’t too bad. There was no need to spook her if that was the case.

“So, real quick question,” Araie asked, leaning down further so that she could look at him. Her hair fell onto the pages of his journal, blocking off his sight from anything but her face. “Do you ever go anywhere without your journal? Do you ever think that you’ll not need it? I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but I’m curious if you ever plan on speaking or if you’ll always prefer to write in the notebook.” She really wasn’t trying to disturb him and she hoped he didn’t find her questions intrusive. She was genuinely curious if that journal was more of safety blanket than a crutch.
