It had rained for the past few days and it seemed that almost everything was damp. The sun had played hard to get but the clouds had now rolled away and given way to warm rays. The harpy found herself out of the cover of the trees, if only to dry her plumage. The jewelry she wore began to radiate a small amount of heat and she preened her feathers almost obsessively in order to straighten them as they dried.

It hadn’t been fit for mare nor beast out there!

But, after a few hours of work, she was dry despite being grumpy about it. She hated being out in the open, despite hanging near the edge of the forest. The clearing was just too exposed. You never knew who you’d run in to, and it seemed anyone and everyone found themselves in this area from time to time.

The grass squished beneath her claws as mud oozed slightly. She hated the way the ground felt. It wasn’t that she was a prude, or overly girly- it really was more of a texture thing.

The mare lifted her front foot and wiggled her toes as bits of mud loosened from her talons.

She felt disgusted.

The grass, however, had never been more crisp. Since fruit wasn’t quite in season yet, it was the sweetest thing she had at her disposal, and she took a tentative mouthful, raising her head quickly, scanning her surroundings.

Now that she was dry she seriously contemplated leaving.

My apologies for the terribly long wait babe! D8

User ImageArland stretched his wings as he stepped out of the outcropping he had held up in. The rain had come on rather suddenly, or so he felt. The storm clouds rolling in making him instantly seek cover so as not to drown his wings in water. He didn’t wish to have to preen them all back into place later, it made flying terribly difficult when they were ruffed up. As the stallion stepped from his hiding spot he spread his tail feathers, letting them fan out in pleasure. The sun had peaked back out and despite the softness of the ground he felt lively and fine.

Though the grass tore easily under his talons he didn’t mind. Arland lowered his nose to nuzzle the grass pulling a few patches free to munch on before spreading his wings out again and fanning them once. He tested the wind, the way they felt, and how much they would hold. They seemed alright, still strong and agile, he took a little bit of a test gallop before bounding up and taking flight into the tree tops. From here he cooed happily before breaking free of the forest and soaring to new heights.

He cloud soared for a little while, talons occasionally breaking up the puffy white forms. His wings almost brushing the sun he was so high, or so it felt. Eventually he grew tired, his wings grew sore and he slowly circled downwards for a landing. He glided for awhile until he found a clearing slowly coming in for a landing. It wasn’t until he was nearly on top of her that he noticed the mare.

“Ah, my apologies.” He spoke, his voice deep and polite as he inclined his head. “I did not mean to interrupt your meal.”

Not a problem at all! Real life supersedes Gaia time. I completely understand! smile

The mare jerked herself away from the stallion, head popping up sharply, as both her feathers and ears flattened by the rather abrupt appearance. Her eyes narrowed and a scowl slipped firmly in to place. She’d never met a flighted stallion who seemed to have such poor control when airborne- or so, this was the conclusion that she had come to.

“You could have killed someone.” She replied darkly, taking a brief moment to actually look at the Soquili in front of her. “What’s the matter, don’t you fly very much?”

As much as she hated to admit it, as a filly she’d been jealous of those who could fly. While her wings moved and could flap, they just weren’t in the right position, or large enough, for flight.

While she waited for a response, she sized him up. Front talons, long easily grabbed feathered tail, large wings. He was a good share larger than her as well, though his bones were thinner than hers, she imagined, seeing as he needed less bulk to fly.

She noticed that as a slight advantage, if need be.

Over all he was a rather good-looking stallion. She wasn’t sure if he was truly polite, or putting on airs. To say that the harpy was suspicious was a gross understatement.

Needless to say, any interest she had had in the grass was long forgotten.

Thank you. <3 This new job has me running all over. It's a lot of hours this week cause I'm training but it should settle out after that. <3

Arland’s head jerked back and his brow rose in scandalized amusement. Well what a feisty mare he had managed to find this time around. She was a harpy that was sure, and her nature only brought to mind the general consensus of her breed. Arland had found many didn’t think to highly of the winged femmes. Though if truth be told she was probably startled, he had dropped in on her rather suddenly.

If truth be told he hadn’t even noticed her, and hadn’t intended on anyone being here at all. He lowered his head, inclining it in an apologetic manner. He really hadn’t meant to startle her at all. It was just how it had turned out in the end.

He gave her a good natured smile before extending a wing, it was sore in the joint indicating he had used it for far too long and would have to rest it the next couple of days or chance an injury.

“Ah, well, I certainly do not wish to hurt anyone. I shall take more care next time.” Arland’s voice was soft, gentle, as he took a few steps back to allow the lady her space. He wasn’t aiming for a fight, not at all.

“I fly quite often, unfortunately I am prone to flying too long and tend to push the limits of what my wings can handle. As such my landing was a bit faulty, due to the stress it was placing on my wings. I apologize again my lady, I did not mean to startle you.” He once more inclined his head, eyeing the female through his mane before he lifted his head once more.

“If there is anything I can do to help soothe your ruffled feathers, simply say the words.”

And now I get to apologize. LOL.

Medical testing and such consumed my life.

Lady? She hadn’t been called a lady since…well, ever really.

Who did he think he was bestowing titles without knowing merit?

Though, it did have a pleasant ring to it.

Her feathers relaxed slightly, but not completely by a long shot. Now that he had landed and taken a few paces backward she could really get a good look at him. His markings were striking, his plumage bright and full of contrast.

He seemed to know his place- more so than some she had met.

“Do you have a name?” The words were simple, and blunt, but not hostile.

His claws intrigued her. The mare hadn’t yet met anyone with one set of talons. Golden eyes glanced to the gem on his chest as he moved, before flipping back up to him. She was bird-like in that respect.

No worries darlin!

I hope you're okay though! Medical testing never sounds like fun.

Arland tilted his head slightly confused at the female before he shifted slightly. He took note of the way she was appraising him and he did hope he met her standards. Though he wasn’t sure what that even amounted to really, but it was always better to meet someone’s standards than not to.

He flicked his ears slightly as she… asked… for his name. She seemed the demanding sort, aware of what she wanted and willing to go after it. Her words seemed harsh but he supposed that was just the nature of this one.

“Arland, m’lady.” Arland stated shifting his feathers slightly to a more comfortable position. He didn’t wish to spook her again so he moved slowly. He got the feeling this one was a bit dangerous, a bit like a rose person. Pretty to look at but beware the thorns that hid beneath.

“May I know your name?” He asked as he shifted backwards to look at her once more.
