IC

There had been a recent bout of foreigners to the island, which typically stirred the emotions of the alkidikes living there like a hornets nest. Although none of the visitors had been hostile, in fact a majority had come to plea with Aisha for a lotus which had mix feelings from the residents and elders.

Some accepted that this was the changing of the times, whilst others... were not very happy about the recent abundance of hybrids. The hot looks and sneers given whenever they were mentioned were hard to ignore, even amongst their other sisters.

This was such a time when Aselia stumbled across some sisters, overhearing their rather racist conversation involving the good old days and how they should go back to pushing back the other races from the forest.

Aselia managed to grab a trig of fruit juice before she hurried onward to join the rest of the Alkidike sisters in the market. She had just finished all her morning chores of birthing the lotus flowers. So many strong sisters were being brought forward by Aisha and it was making Aselia feel proud of the strong deity they worshiped. Her feet carried her further down Aisha and towards the market. Glancing back towards Aisha Aselia smiled, the view - or the part that wasn't blocked by homes of the other sisters - was awesome: the objects banked the entire panorama.

Aselia had to exert a firm control over an urge to recoil as shapes, directed past her towards another sister, were easily deflected at seemingly the last minute by the warriors twin blades. The split wood clattered effortlessly to the ground. Taking a step back gradually, she slowly melded into the tiny crowd that stood around them. Able to enjoy the spectacle and enjoy it with detachment. Not that anyone seemed to find it as amusing as one sister in particular did. She was clutching her spear in one hand leaning on it to prevent her from entering into the brawl, but she was nearly doubled up in laughter.

Being the tallest sister in the crowd Aselia gave her a look trying to distinguish her name though she couldn't seem to recall it for the moment. "An amazing spectacle. Avisi is this one of the sister's you mentioned earlier who wish to join our cause?"

"What you are seeing is only the start of that blades potential." Avisi replied digging her spear deeper into the ground. Her grin grew wider as she continued to watch eagerly on.

"Comparing the present onslaught with reports made by Kojenek her skills could equal even an elder. It is reasonable to assume that sister will be a powerful asset against the crystal worms."

Crystal worms? Aselia asked her own mind, searching for the meaning of the strange term. Time ticked a several more sounds of metal clashing met her ears. Her eyes followed swing after swing of the masterful movements of the blades. Aselia tried to meld quietly into the crowd. This seemed to be an unusual gathering of sisters. Her interest was peaked by the strange suspicious conversations and actions. Scrunching her brows together it was like a light had been turned on in her mind. Crystals were what covered the earthlings. Was this a slang towards them? She had heard Crystal crawlers, crystal thieves, shattered souls, but never crystal worms.

"But where does her heart lay? Is she as traditional? Or has she been corrupted by Eshe's lax ideals?" Avisi asked the sister beside her.

"She's shown no sign of idly sitting by as some of the crystal crawlers approached Aisha. She was spotted trying to threaten them away. I'm sure she will fit in fine." The sister replied.

"Hmmm," A third sister said, standing to the other side of the very tall sister. "Fascinating! To add more members to our cause we might yet pull this off. Truly astounding. It's a pity Kadriye didn't show as much potential to help. She's soft like Eshe, even if she does seem to highly value tradition. I fear she's been tainted by our current Mystic's lax ideals."

Avisi groaned. "Be calm Kojenek." she said, flicking her hand towards the new recruit and giving a nod to the sister she was fighting.

"Avisi wants her added to the members. Give the slight briefing to that girl, make sure she's willing to follow us." Kojenek interrupted before turning back to Avisi.

"What do we know about Aselia, she's come of age now. Words are that she can tend to the lotus' the Matron Mystic was pleased with her progress." The girl to Avisi's right said thoughtfully as she watched the other sisters sweep in and whisk the fighters away. Waving away some fruit that another sister was passing about the crowd.

Aselia's fists clenched, they were talking about her? What was all this about tradition? Traditions were there for a reason and were supposed to be upheld, it was how their race survived for so long.

"In her current state she might follow along with Kadriye and Eshe." Avisi said.

"But you don't know for sure. She had a falling out with several tainted Crystal crawlers in Ast. They did try to kill her. Attempts were made by Nabhi, Nabole and Lemist." Kojenek motioned towards the blade using the bow with a finger pointed to the air in a strange gesture. She wasn’t as pleased with that sister as she was with the dual blade wielder.

"Before that, shouldn't we make sure the new sister is aware that we are making moves to run the rest of the shifters out of Ast? Jauhar should have been ours. It almost was until Eshe ascended and our Matron stepped down to make room for her." The sister to Avisi’s left spoke taking a bite into some fruit.

"We could send her to the front line?" Kojenek suggested. "There's plenty out there she would assimilate quickly." She pointed to another sister jerking her head towards the circle’s center where the fight seemed to be the thickest. The crowd moving to make way once in a while for an absent minded sister to walk through. “Hey watch your footing!”

There was a significant pause as Avisi stared down long and hard at Kojenek. "You fail to take into account that the crystal crawlers are trying to sit on our shores to Aisha. That they are moving in on US! It's high time we start pushing them back out."

Aselia was shocked with the information a she stood quietly listening to Avisi. She had no idea that there were earthlings encroaching on the sacred land of their home. Bad enough the obans and infiltrated into Jauhar and were refusing to leave. Her hands clenched into fists as she fumed, Eshe's teachings keeping her restricted from the actions she wanted to follow. She wanted to agree, wanted to tell the girl she would join, that she wanted to bring back tradition. Fight for the land that was owed to them. She was completely against having them even close to Chibale.

It wasn't the first time Aselia had been brought to attention that once Eshe had risen to take place of the previous mystic, things had become relaxed. No, relaxed didn't seem like the correct word. Tolerant? Yes that fit better, Alkidikes had become more tolerant of the earthlings. They were scattered as a people now, and that scattering was what Aselia felt, caused confusion in her sisters. Let them to entertain feelings towards the idea’s of mating, of bringing them to Aisha. That had bothered Aselia as she grew but Eshe had insisted that Aisha wouldn’t grant children to anyone who didn’t deserve to have one.

“We need to press on without recruiting. Possibly get a bit more aggressive. We need to gather the sisters into a unity. Otherwise this wont work. Matron does have a secret she’s holding close to her. I have a feeling only a mystic could get close to that secret.” Avisi ground her teeth a she pulled her spear from the ground. Gripping it tightly, thoughtfully she turned on Kojenek folding her arms across her chest. “Has anyone thought to ask that mystic Aselia!?”

There was another very long pause as the shorter sister shifted from one foot to the other. It seemed the answer was a no even though the words never really left the woman's lips. The shorter one couldn’t meet Avisi’s gaze.

“Fools,” Avisi growled, “No wonder no one knows exactly where she stands. No one has bothered to approach her about traditions!”

“She was seen seeking out that hybrid, Rishima, I think that was the name.” Kojenek grumbled waving her hand to dismiss that fighting pair from the circle and pointing to two more.

Avisi seemed to take her time in digesting the information swinging the spear in front of her she was about to say something when Aselia spoke up. Anger was welling deep inside her, she was shaking with how intense the emotions burned inside her. “I don’t want the earthlings on Chibale either, this is our home not theirs!”

“Hooo…” Silence fell over the crowed as the sisters standing beside Aselia jumped from her sudden outburst. Avisi seemed to turn to regard Aselia with a burning interest. Their gaze locked for a long moment before a smile slowly made it’s way into the taller Alkidikes face. “The little mystic stands her own ground! How novel. I like the fire in your eyes Aselia.”

There was so profound a silence that accompanied Aselia that everyone exchanged amused glances. Avisi leaned in closer to Aselia. “And what do you plan to do about it all?” She asked goading Aselia further.

“I want Traditions back! I want to unify our people again. I want to stop us from being a scattered people!” That was what Aselia really wanted deep in her heart. “We are weaker as one, if we want to be strong incase of another earthling-”

Aselia was cut off as Avisi raised her hand to intercept the conversation. Shaking her head from side to side. “Earthlings feared us once, you knew this didn’t you? If you want to lead us, bring us together, you might have to go against Eshe are you ready for that?”

There was a surprised expression on Aselia’s face as she and Avisi continued to lock eyes. “She might not have enough training to command an army.” Kojenek finally spoke up her eyes also turning to Aselia.

Aselia could feel the eyes of so many sisters locked on her. Fire ignited within her body. Pushing her on one sharp nod and a simple word of agreement left her lips. “Yes, if I have to oppose Eshe in order to bring our people back to tradition, to unite us I will.”

Avisi regarded her for a moment without breaking contact with Aselia. Her grin deepening. “Train her up, teach her to lead this army. I want her at the front of it. With a mystic leading the fray, there’s no way we can lose. This will bolster our members! Send word to the Matron, we have a leader at last. She should be pleased to know this one has the passion to push towards her goal.”

Reaching out Avisi placed a hand on Aselia’s shoulder. “We will stand behind you all the way. Come little mystic we have much to discuss. Starting with making this land pure again, driving all who aren’t born of Aisha and pure in blood out.”

Aselia paused. A pain rang in her heart. Did that mean driving out the hybrids? What of Rishima? She glanced back towards Aisha as if asking for guidance. Was this really ok? Was defying what Eshe had instructed, to fight in order to return the alkidikes to the proud people they once were a bad thing? She wanted to protect the precious people she knew. The land she called home. If she could lead them to put fear back into the earthlings perhaps they really could conquer Jauhar after all.

“There will be no more slaughter of our kind by Hybrids! The forest of Aisha’s children will be ours at last. We will push to have Jauhar!” Avisi interjected, her open hand sweeping over the crowd to give thought that any one of them could be killed by the earthlings.

The mystic to be readily agreed. She hadn’t thought it possible that others would be ready to follow a different Mystic. She had been so certain that the sisters would become attached to the one who spoke for Aisha, never seeking out others that could do the same and wanting them instead.

“This is joyus!” Kojenek cheered patting Aselia on the back. Pushing her in the direction they had taken the previous blade they had been so impressed with. There was a loud applause from the crowed that moved with them. Aselia couldn’t help but wonder if they all belonged to this powerful group who seemed to be so intent on recruiting members.
