Nyiim drew the bow to the gem at his lip and let the blunted arrow fly, initiating a spar with the close-ranged fighter. He was an interesting-looking hybrid, but aside from that he seemed trustworthy enough. Nyiim was curious. Could ranged defeat hand-to-hand one-on-one?

Dodge = 19+4 = NO DAMAGE Focus: +2 next turn ~~~~ Right. Training. Votzhem was sure he was going to be trounced, but that didn't matter to him. Better to be trounced – again – by someone who wasn't going to kill you than by someone when it was life or death.
Eventually, he would be forged into a weapon worthy of his tribe, regardless of whether they considered him to be so or not.
He rolled out of the way of the arrow and observed his opponent carefully – he was trying a wholly new tactic this time, just to see what would come of it.

Retaliate! 16, 1, 5 16+4+2= 22 = NO DAMAGE 16+7= 23/5 =4.6+2 = 6.6 damage dealt! ~~~~ WHOOSH. Votzhem seemed almost to intuit the arrow's arrival, leaping nimbly out of the way and darting in to deal a blow with his weapons: Not his blades, of course. Those were made to hurt and maim, as efficient as their creator. These were training weapons - they would only bruise and - at worst - scrape and splinter. He smirked at his opponent. "Oh look! I got a hit in!" he said, amused.

Votzhem Attacks! 13+7=HIT 6+7= 13/2= 6.5+2= 8.5 damage incoming ~~~~ Or not. Crud, he was sure he would have managed to hit the man at least once... time to focus on doing that. If he managed that, that would be victory enough for Votzhem - he was easy to please. He moved with the other man, letting the muted arrow 'graze' him as he tried to duck under his guard and hit him...

Was he really learning anything this spar? Maybe that he and this hybrid were both good at dodging. His smile had fallen. Maybe they should just take the hits that came to them? He wasn't going to stop trying to survive if Votzheim wasn't, though! That was his name, right? An interesting one for sure.

Nyiim fired off another shot before the young man could move and shook his head. Another miss! He was not so good at close-range attack, it seemed.
"I tried magic for twelve minutes and the mage told me it wasn't for me!" Gentle breeze or not, Nyiim was impressed that magic had come from a blade's hands.

VOTZHEM LOSES ~~~ Votzhem attempted a dodge and found himself basically sprawled on the ground instead, the 'arrow' striking him hard with its dulled edge. ”Oof.” he exclaimed sheepishly, ”Would have killed me there.” he laughed and offered the arrow back. ”My ma is a forester. My other ma is a crafter. I guess I just fell far from the tree...” heh - that was a silly joke. ”If we're playing for wins, I'm pretty sure you just won that round.” he held out a hand, half in respect and half in a request for assistance. ”You're good with that thing!”

Nyiim half-grinned and leaned out, offering his hand to the hybrid to help him up. Two mothers, huh? Interesting.
"My mother was a carpenter. Not so much houses as decorative work, knife handles, things like that." He rose the hybrid to his feet and nodded. "Thank you. You're quite fast, you know. Not many people can dodge an arrow like that, at least not that many times."
