Maya had sent word well over a week ago. She had wanted to get in contact with an old friend. Someone she knew well to be a healer. She had been watching her daughter intensely since she had returned home from her trip. And it had worried her the way Teiluj seemed to grow more and more determined to follow an earthling path instead of a powerful one like the Alkidike tribes. After further study she had come to realize the path that her daughter had been teetering towards was magic based. Something that she herself could not teach Teiluj. And while she had kept her close and safe away from the war that didn't mean she could protect her from everything.

Another painful beat of her heart as she looked out over the water. Her favorite swimming place. It was always so peaceful here, breathing she focused on the sweet air. the way the water seemed to purify it. Pacju lay close by, obviously happy to be reunited with Maya once again after the long and audacious journey with Teiluj. It had taken a huge tole on the Radaku to bring both her daughter and some strange Oban back with her. Maya didn't like the obans presence in the house, she didn't like anyone in the house for that matter. But there was a way that Teiluj looked at the oban that made her want to shred him. To tear him to pieces and scatter his parts as food for the predators.

Grinding her teeth irritably Maya tried to cool her head. Even if she had attempted to rid their home of the Oban, Teiluj would never forgive her. So she merely put on her smile as she had done in the past with Neibet and carried on. Hoping that she could nudge her daughter towards a more respected man. A better earthling like a shifter even. Anything but the oban.

Maya picked up a rock from beside her and chucked it impatiently into the water as she waited. Fuming as the thoughts of how to kill the oban swirled in her mind. They were the cause of the war, they enslaved others. Now of all times she was starting to regret keeping her daughter so hidden from it all. What if she became just another pawn to him? What if he was just luring her in to enslave her?

The shifter had been surprised when he had received a letter requesting his aid from someone he hadn't seen in a very long time. The man was worried that something was wrong but given that it was to meet up with Maya a week after he had received the note he tried to still his worries. The world of Jahaur was nothing new or strange to him, it was after all his home, the place he had been born and raised in until he was left to grow up by himself.

His fear of insects had lessened greatly since he was young, but he still found them disturbing and didn't care for them to be on his skin or near him preferably. Still he was calm as he reentered his homeland and hurriedly made his way to the appoint meeting spot. He had brought his satchel containing food, drink and several books, just in case.

Looking around, with the sun bright over head his dark skinned body moved through the tree's with great ease. He couldn't move as quickly as some could but he was still comfortable traveling in this fashion rather than on the ground. And once he spotted the alkidike he slowed his progress, she looked the same and yet different. Time did make things different in ones perspective.

"Greetings Maya," Takoda started as he went to move closer to the ground, noting that she seemed...upset.

Pacju was the first to acknowledge Takoda's approach. Raising her head darting to her feet but remaining in place. She remembered this smell, it was a friendly smell. Her tail swished in an attempt to grab maya's attention without resorting to sound.

Still deep in her brooding It wasn't until Takoda spoke that Maya finally looked up. "Ah! So you did come. I wasn't sure if you would be to busy. I hope everything has been well with you." Looking the shifter over, Maya have a half smile. So much had changed since she had seen him so long ago. He even looked like he had come into his own. No longer the pitiful Spitorog she remembered. "You look well." Maya added watching as Takoda moved towards the forest floor.

Looking back out over the water she motioned for Takoda to come and sit with her. Pacju moved closer to her side with a humming sound before settling down into a close snuggle with Maya earning herself a pat in return.

It was times like this that he wasn't entirely sure, should he offer her a hug? A handshake? He was a friendly fellow but Maya looked on edge and he didn't want to push things with getting too close at the moment. Perhaps a hug when they parted? Sure yes that sounded like a good idea.

"As do you. " He replied to the greeting with a soft smile, moving closer to her he noted Pacju and gave another wistful smile. Some things never changed huh?

"Is everything alright Maya? It looks like I am interrupting you." Takoda mentioned as he went to remove his satchel off his shoulder whilst using one hand to summon a mound of earth to look like a raised table. Placing the item gently on the surface after a quick scan for bugs.

"You're not interrupting, I am the one who sent for you after all." Maya sighed and hung her head. "To be honest things are troubling me. You're the only one I feel confident enough to help with this situation." Maya rubbed of her temples as she thought in silence again.

"I don't know if you knew but I have a daughter. I went to Aisha to plead for her years ago. But what was granted to me was a lost daughter. I don't know what happened to her parents. Needless to say, she's more earthling than Alkidike." Maya continued to run her fingers along Pacju who continued to hum contently. "Her name is Teiluj."

Concerned Takoda shifted to face Maya fully wondering what it could possible be that was bothering the alkidike. When she explained that she had a daughter his expression changed to a smile,

"That is wonderful news Maya.." He began though his words went quiet as she went on to explain how her daughter was...more earthling that alkidike. Blinking he looked to her curiously, when her name was revealed her gave a soft 'oh' with his lips before giving a chuckle.

"You know...I believe I have run into your little one once before. She was quite young, and she was very interested in my magic." Takoda mentioned with a quite laugh. "But how could this be troubling you? She seemed healthy when I met her some time ago. Has something happened since then?"

Maya turned to look at Takoda head on. Wonderful? Of course Aisha granting her a daughter was wonderful but it was more than that... it was a miracle all things considered. Her eyes narrowed on the shifter when he started giggling. A shocked look crossed her face when he reviled that he had met her. What was Teiluj doing all the way out here!? A rather unpleasant thought crossed her mind. That girl. Even as a youngling was pushing boundaries why didn't she notice sooner that the girl had a knack for such things. And even interest in magic as a child! This news made her feel incompetent in a way. Perhaps she had pushed so hard for her daughter to follow in her footsteps she had actually done the opposite and pushed her towards magic.

Grunting Maya stopped petting Pacju and placed her hands in her lap. "No Teiluj is fine, surprising as it is that you had met her. She never mentioned to me she had spoken with you. Not that I've ever told her your name, that is probably my fault. No it's not her health that I need help with. Teiluj has come of age to choose her lifes profession."

Takoda nodded his head and looked about the forest floor a moment before he raised two mounds of earth to act like seats for them to sit on and then went about to do just that. He gestured for Maya to join him as he sat cross legged and taking on a very relaxed mediation looking pose. Though his eyes were open he liked to sit this way as it calmed his nerves a bit. There were bugs in this forest after all..

"I..see, well I am glad she is in good health. She had a healthy curiosity when I met her long ago. " The monk explained as he settled. Though he gave her a curious look when she spoke about Teiluj's life profession. "Surely she is going to choose a way of the alkidikes, like you and your sisters." Takoda stated as he recalled all other hyrbids he had met up until this point had always gone back to traditional weapons and classes.

Maya tilted her head to the side and regarded the earth mounds. She didn't really want to sit on them, not that she had anything against Takoda it was just the way she was sitting now felt like it would be the most comfortable for her to keep a level head. Quietly resisting as she stared at the mound Maya eventually gave in. Raising to her feet Pacju gave a long, hard, loud, whine as she moved to follow Maya towards Takoda.

"I had hoped she would, I had tried to guide her in that direction. Teiluj however, isn't going through with it, or at least she's struggling. I need to have her pick now, before she fully sets in her mind she wants to be a healer! Not that there is anything wrong with healers." Maya's face flushed grinding her teeth as she tried to remain calm as she spoke. "I was sure she was going to follow one of the paths of our people, but recently her mind has changed. She left to explore the world and learn. She was gone for a much shorter time than I anticipated and when she returned it wasn't alone."

Anger was fueling Maya now. "She brought back a blasted earthling. An oban even. I did everything I could to keep her form that war, from those earthlings. And she brings one back!" Maya was shouting unintentionally, realizing what she had said she seemed to withdraw into herself. Pausing for a moment to shift the conversation away from the oban. "I've asked Neibet for help when it comes to the spear, and a few shifters for some of the other more likeable weapons such as the hammer and so on. But I need help from you... I have a puzzle set up for her. One I'm hoping will detour her any further from this healing nonsense she's gotten in her head since that oban came about."

Takoda wasn't offended as Maya stumbeled over her apology, he knew that alkidikes didn't dabble in magic, except..for the highest ranks which was mystics? Weren't they? He wasn't entirely sure he didn't know much about alkidike society and their rules after all. He only knew from experience that they were traditionalist which could be said about any culture.

Listening quietly as he sat in his meditation pose his face reacting if only minimally until she came to the point where she mentioned Teiluj bringing home an 'earthling'. An Oban to be exact. Shivering slightly as the horrors of war flickered before his eyes he shifted slightly before listening more.

"An oban? Well..I suppose the ..war is over. " He trailed off, not having met the oban it was hard to not jump to conclusions about the persons intentions. He didn't want to sound racist and thus concluded with that and allowed Maya to continue with her rant.

The typical weapons were listed and her methods as well he wasn't entirely sure why Maya was against her daughter learning healing magic of all things but he would respect that she probably knew best for her daughter.

"A puzzle?" He inquired thoughtfully, he wondered what she intended to do with setting such a task for Teiluj, he feared she may end up pushing her away...

"It doesn't really feel like the war is over. This Nkole, the way she looks at him. She feels guilty for his injury."

Again Maya was gritting her teeth, waving a hand as Takoda mentioned the puzzle. "Of sorts. Everything will be laid out on a table. She will choose what she wants. Obviously I'll have it easier to follow the trail to Neibet and I. But it will be harder to reach any of the earthling classes. If she wants to be a healer it wont be impossible just hard. That's where I need your help. If she does choose to be a healer I need someone to help train her."

While it pained Maya to see her daughter choosing an earthling class she wasn't going to hold her back from it if she managed to make it to the end. She would need someone to guide her. And if Maya wasn't going to find a proper teacher powerful enough to guide her, Teiluj would seek one out on her own. Probably return with yet another earthling, she had already brought back a youngling who had been found wandering in the forest. A reminder of how she was when she was younger. Maya had gone out of her way once to help Yansa save an earthling infant. She refused to admit that this was anything alike however.

Still sitting on the mound of dirt Takoda listened as Maya spoke. It was obvious that this Oban that her daughter brought home bothered her, he could understand her worry for the war although over was still fresh in everyone's minds. Though he had yet to meet this young person he would try not to judge as best he could.

"I am sure your daughter has a good head on her shoulders, I would not worry about her too much." The shifter tried to encourage without sounding as if he was siding with the Oban.

"And if you are letting her choose her path you are being a great parent. I worry at times for my own daughter gets lost quite easily, and I fear that she may get herself really hurt one of these days....but she always came back to us. So I too must have faith." Takoda mentioned with a slow nod of his head.

Reaching around to his satchel he pulled out a book and went to put it on the table before them. "If your daughter really wants to try being a healer have her read through this. It is..very basic and covers more traditional and mundane ways of healing."

A wan smile surfaced on Maya's face. While she was sure Takoda was right about Teiluj having a good head on her shoulders it didn't stop her from worrying about her. Fingers twitched at the mention of Takoda's own daughter. So life really had gotten to them all, and now this once spitorog of a shifter, was now a father. Funny how life changed so easily. Turning her head towards the leaf filled sky Maya eased up on her anger a bit.

Hearing the rustling of Takoda's clothes as he produced a book Maya narrowed her eyes at the object. Giving it a hard look before reaching out to take it into her hands. It looked familiar, the rune on the front was a little different than the one that Teiluj had brought home from the market. "You understand I want to test her resolve towards her path through?" She questioned, opening the book curiously attempting to read the pages. It was clearly another language, she had no interest in learning. Snapping the book closed Maya put it back on the ground heaving a sigh and running her hand along Pacju's back again.

"It will take more than just a book for her. Even though she's been around shifters for most of her life... Teiluj doesn't seem to understand how to call about the earthling magic inside her. And it's not like I can guide her you understand."

Jayoku

Takoda couldn't help but offer a small chuckle at Maya's expression, like the book could possible bite her. Still even as she questioned his motives he gave a slight nod of his head, taking a moment to look about the forest with an expression of nostalgia on his face.
"I do understand your wishes, but perhaps your daughter doesn't know or completely understand the path she wished to tred down. There is much heart ache as well hope in a healers work. If you cannot handle such pains you will not be able to heal others. " Takoda trailed off before looking back to Maya.

"That book...was my starting place, it contains nothing magical about it. It dwells mostly on herbs, medicinal uses as well how to properly set bones and stitch up wounds. Without the aid of magic. Magic although helpful...cannot solve all of lifes problems. " Takoda murmured recalling how the last time his magic was tested he had been forced to fight with it and take lives...it had been before the warin the village of Neued. Where the Dretch were preying on the townspeople by posing as their dead loved ones. Magic in that cause had been the cause of the problems and a violent solution.

"I agree she should be tested...as any magic users path should not be taken lightly."

Maya agreed instantly with Takoda's comments. "Yes, if she doesn't have a strong enough resolve, I fear what will happen to her." There were plenty of things that caused her fear. Looking down at the book again Maya reached out with her big toe to push it closer to Takoda. A look of disgust as she stared down at it. "I appreciate the face that you are telling me about this book, but I personally have no use for it. Could you do me a favor though, write your name in it. With tiny letters. I know it's an odd request." Maya found herself flushed as she struggled to explain. Withdrawing her foot from the books surface, folding her arms across her chest with another 'hmph'

"Would you mind waiting for her here? It's a great distance from Ast, so she wouldn't be able to stumble upon you by accident." Pausing Maya turned to look Takoda over. "You don't seem like the helpless Spitorog I once knew anymore either. How long do you think it will take to train her. I am sorry this might keep you from your daughter for too long."

Takoda gave a slow shake of his head, it didn't bother him to have to travel not if it meant helping someone in need. Besides he was getting use to this idea about teaching others. His nephew had brought a young lass over to learn as well, it had been an interesting development considering Chandra.

"It is alright Maya, my daughter is a young woman now, and she tends to more often than not head off on her own. I worry about her, but she has a radaku now she managed to pick up...and she often helps the lass get back to us." Takoda mentioned with a smile, "As for how long..it really depends on how easily she can tap into magic. If she has troubles it could take awhile. We may discover she has no talent in magic at all...perhaps then she will go a different route in her career." Takoda managed to try and sound somewhat optimistic for Maya's sake.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 09, 2015 9:43 pm

Maya felt a little more relaxed at Takoda's reassurance nodding her head. Or she might not even reach Takoda in the first place. That was also a possibility. Looking down at the book Maya took a deep sigh leaning back on her elbows and propping one of her knees into the air. She stared towards the sky her brows knitted in a furrowed gaze. "Thank you for doing this Takoda. Any chance you're up for supper? It's probably been a long travel to get here."

The shifter gave a small smile and nodded his head at her offer. He was getting hungry and it would be a long trip back if he didn't eat something.

"I will be happy to have dinner with you. I can gather what edible plants I know to make something if you wish?" He inquired, as he wasn't a true vegetarian but he nearly ate like one. He recalled with his mate tried to get him to eat bug once and it had been an awful experience.

"I can get started if you want to get a fire going." Offered the shifter with another of his charming little smiles.
