This is a private roleplay between my (belloblossom's) Rosalyn and Thalea's Xochitl Cuahtla. If you are neither myself nor Thalea then please don't post here! Thank you!

Rosalyn
It had been a quiet couple of days in Rosalyn's garden. The mare went about her life as usual, waking with the songbirds and tending to her flowers throughout the day. Along the edges of her garden were wild flowers that simply sprung up on their own and she tended to these as if she'd planted them herself.
Come the afternoon, she would walk from her garden to a steady stream that trickled into the irrigation trenches she'd dug around her gardens. She had constructed a dam that prevented the water from flowing into the garden unless she wanted to and so she would remove the dam and let the water flow into her garden. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get such a construction made up, but now she was certain that it worked and her lively flowers were confirmation.
Further down stream there was a pool, again of Rosalyn's construction, though this was far more simple than her irrigation system had been. This was simple dug out area with rocks lining the bottom and a single large rock acting as the dam. This was her pool for preparing rose water for those who had come to visit. Checking in on it now, Rosalyn saw that the petal's she'd put in yesterday had floated to the bottom and that it was time for new ones.
She hesitated. There was no way of telling whether she would receive any visitors today or not. If anything, it was very likely that today would be like the days passed, where no one came and she continued her life alone. She stared into the clear pool, a clump of fresh rose petals in her lips as she thought it over. After a moment, she dropped them in, watching the pink, yellow and red roses dance along the surface. Anything could happen and she should be ready if fate decided to roll someone in her direction. Meanwhile, she would be patient until it did.

She had not been long out of her basket but she already knew that she loved nature; she was green and green was her world. There was so much to learn about the care of plants that sometimes she felt that her head was going to explode; mother and father were both supportive of her desire to learn and take care of the wood, father even told her that her brother Laureant will teach her the art of growing the family’s signature black roses if she asked him nicely. The idea of learning how to breed black roses made Xo’s wings quiver with excitement, she had loved them ever since she had laid eyes upon the roses her father wore.
In many ways she looked more like her father than her mother, except for the coloration, she was green like her mother, but had her father’s lack of horn or unicorn tail. And her face had the similar cardinal markings although mixed with her mother’s native Nahuatl markings. The little green foal looked around at her surroundings, everything was different, she had been lost in her thoughts that she had not noticed when she had left the lands of her family and wandered into a new area. Sarcasm was her way of coping with stressful situations, but she did not open her mouth to speak. Silently she continued forward and paused at a pool full of… “Rose Petals!” She was shocked by her discovery that she had spoken the word out loud, quickly she looked around her, she was in a garden of some sort, an amazing assortment of flowers surrounded her and Xo stood next to the pool in complete awe inspired silence.

Rosalyn
Rosalyn hadn't heard anyone approach, but when the youthful cry of a young foal reached her ears, she turned slowly for fear of speaking the little one. There she was standing feathered and green, looking between the pool and the garden nearby. Rosalyn couldn't help smiling at the surprise of the young filly and by the looks of things she was quite young. How she had come to her garden, Rosalyn didn't know, but she was more than happy to have her there... But wherever were her parents? Were there others to come?
"You're admiring my pool, I see. Would you care to try some of the water there?" Came the gentle, friendly voice of the brown and pink mare. "You needn't be afraid to do so, young Miss. I'm more than happy to share with visitors." She flicked her ears a bit and then looked off to her garden, wondering if the filly would rather explore... No, she turned back to the golden eyed girl. She would be patient, she had to be, it was rude otherwise. She had just been so lonely, she may've been a bit eager. "My name is Rosalyn, by the way. What's your name?"

A mare the color of soft earth stood before Xo, a pink rose marque was striking against the brown, drawing the attention of the filly. For a moment she was lost in the spiraling design when she remembered the words of the mare and gave a nod. With careful movements she lowered her head toward the pool of water with the floating rose petals; she took a deep inhale of the delicious sweet aroma before taking a sip of the cool water. The tiny foal took her time sampling the water, for she knew if she drank the water too fast it would cause her tummy to ache and the cool waters would cause her head to freeze. When she was satisfied she looked up at the mare and gave her a bright smile, “That was delicious.” The tiny foal remembered her manners, which mommy and daddy had drilled into her head, and bowed to the mare, “Thank you for the rose water and it is a pleasure to meet you Rosalyn. I am Xochitl Cuahtla, but you can call me Xo.” Her golden gaze looked out at the garden before her; it was a spectacular sight, usually she liked to just listen to the conversations around her instead of interrupting the flow of the world, but she had to know, “Did you do all this? Did you plant all these flowers? It’s amazing… when I grow up I want to have a garden just like this one, but with some black roses growing as well.”

Rosalyn
Rosalyn had never felt quite so peaceful and content as she did when she watched the filly before her. She smiled kindly at the young thing as it stared at her flank and she suspected that the little one was staring most of all at the rose patterns that gave the mare her namesake. Ah, how roses had affected her life since her family gave her such a name. She hoped that wherever her family was that they were happy, even without her beside them.
At the thought of her family, Rosalyn showed a flicker of sadness in her eyes. She didn't like thinking of them, even in such a state of relaxation as she was in now. They had been cruel to her, though she was almost certain that it had never been on purpose. Her mother was more... excitable than most and whenever her mother dealt with stress, it rubbed off on her daughter. Rosalyn's father was a part of her mother's stress, for he had left Rosalyn as a basket at her mother's hooves. If it hadn't been for the pink roses along her shoulder and legs, Rosalyn may've been mistaken as the product of another fling. She did resemble her father most of all.
Now stop that you, She scolded herself, bringing her mind back to the present with a sharp tug, You've got company. This is no time to be thinking of the past--There is no time to think of such things. And so she looked back to the filly again.
She watched as the foal tasted the water and her eyes lit up with pleasure when it was announced that even to a young palette, that the water she produced was delicious. "You're very welcome." Said she to the filly, who possessed a name that she didn't quite understand how to pronounce, until a nickname was given to her. "Xo is a lovely name."
As the filly's eyes shifted from Rosalyn to the garden around her, the mare moved out of her line of sight, so to give her a better viewing of the world around her. She was moved by the interest that someone so young had for her garden and she was happy to share her knowledge with the young foal. Maybe Xo could take away something from today that would shape her, if only a little, into a flower loving mare. Such a thought made Rosalyn very happy indeed and she went on to answering Xo's question.
"I did most of the gardening, but some of the flowers, like these smaller white and purple ones here, are wild. Which is to say, that I didn't plant their seeds by my own hooves." She explained, gesturing with a nod of her head towards the shy violets that crept towards the sun from their bed in the shade.
It was then that an idea struck her and Rosalyn smiled at the little filly beside her. "You know, there are a few seeds that I've been meaning to plant soon, as spring is almost upon us. If you're interested, I'd be happy for the extra pair of hooves in planting them." She suggested.

The vibrancy of the plants’ lives surrounded the green foal; it filled her and caused her wings to ripple in excitement. Her family had a connection to roses, especially the black roses, which one day she would hopefully have the honor of wearing and growing. Xo had closed her eyes as she had breathed in the energy of Rosalyn’s garden and now she looked at the flowers the older mare pointed out. Mixed in with the roses were lovely purple and white flowers, “Do you know what they are called?” She wanted to know everything there was to know about plants and the names of the tiny flowers would be helpful. There was so much she had to learn! The tiny filly’s eyes widened and she could barely contain her enthusiasm, so she spoke a little louder than she intended, “Yes!” She blushed and spoke in a more reasonable volume, “Yes, I am definitely interested in helping you plant the seeds. It would be an honor.”
This would be the first time that she had actually ever planted anything, if she did a good job, perhaps she could show the skill to her father or her brother and they will deem her worthy to learn the art of the family? She fervently hoped that she was worthy. “So what do we have to do? I uh, have never planted seeds before… but I am a quick learner and I will not let you down. Promise!” Xo did not want the mare to send her away because she was inexperienced with plants, she wanted to learn and the best way to do so was to work with the plants.
