David led Wynter out to his car. Opening her door, he helped her into the car and closed the door behind her. Moving around to his side of the car, he got in and closed the door. Starting the car, he backed out of the parking lot and started the drive to his forge. Along the way, he spoke to Wynter. "My home is small, but it's big enough for the two of us," he said. "It's also where I work. I've got a forge outside the cabin, which is where I spend most of my time when I'm working on an order. If ye'd like, ye're welcome to watch me work sometime, once ye've regained some o' yer strength."
Wynter buckled her seatbelt and looked over at David with a soft smile. "I don't mind a small home. And I would love to watch you work, master," she said softly. She didn't know how long of a drive they had but she was hoping that they could get to know each other a little bit before they reached his home. Gathering her courage, she took a deep breath and shyly began to speak again. "Um, I was wondering if you would tell me a little about yourself, " she asked softly.

David glanced at Wynter and smiled back at her. He shook his head when she called him master. "I only have one rule, Wynter," he said. "Please don't call me master. Call me David." He watched the road as she spoke again, asking if he would tell her about himself. He thought for a moment, then nodded. "Well, my mother died when I was a baby, so I didn't really know her. My father was a sword fighting and karate teacher. He started teaching me karate when I was very young, and sword fighting about four years later. When I was sixteen, my father promoted me to teacher status in his school. I added a few tricks of my own over the years when I was teaching. Truth be told, sometimes I miss teaching. It was one of the things I loved doing." He fell silent for several minutes after speaking, then spoke again. "What about ye, Wynter?" he asked. "Would ye tell me a little about yerself?"
"Well, let's see, before I became a slave, I was a happy child although very lonely. You see, my mother was an elf and my father was a vampire. In both elf and vampire societies, having a relationship and loving a vampire or elf is considered taboo and therefore forbidden. My parents loved each other so much that they chose exile and went into hiding. When I was born, we moved deeper into the forest we lived in and both my parents taught me everything they could about both societies. I was such a wild and reckless child then. Willful too. I remember learning about vampire lores, about battle strategies, swordsmanship, history, hand to hand combat, and anything else my father felt was important enough for me to know. With my mother, I learned how to use a bow, about medicinal herbs and healing, our connection to Mother Earth and how to call upon her for aid, elf history, and anything else my mother felt that I should know. Thinking back on it now, my parents probably knew that something would happen to them. When I was a young teenager, both my parents were murdered right in front of me. First my father and then my mother after she'd been raped for hours on end," she said softly, fighting back tears as she recalled that terrifying, nightmarish night of hell.

David listened as Wynter spoke about her childhood. She had an interesting childhood, indeed. He glanced at her when she stopped speaking to see that she was fighting back tears as she remembered her parents' murders. He didn't know how to comfort her, so he said the only thing he could think of to say. "No one should have to go through what ye went through, Wynter, especially at such a young age," he told her. "Ye're safe now. No harm will come to ye while ye're with me." A short while later, they pulled into his driveway, and David shut the car off, then sat back in his seat. "We're home, Wynter," he said, looking over at her.
"Th-thank you, David. I've never told anyone about my parents before. Not that anyone asked me. And to be perfectly honest, I feel as if I can trust you," she said softly and a little shyly as she turned to look at him. She really wanted to trust David and to have him trust her as well.

David smiled at Wynter, nodding when she thanked him. "Ye're welcome," he said. He got out of the car, then went around and opened Wynter's door and helped her out of the car. Closing her door, he led her inside the cabin he called home. "Would ye like me to give ye a tour?" he asked.
Wynter smiled shyly back at David and let him help her out of the car. "Oh wow! It's so beautiful here, David," she said happily, her face brightening up as she looked around outside. When he brought her inside his home and asked her if she'd like him to give her a tour, she smiled shyly again and nodded. "I would love a tour," she said softly.

David nodded when Wynter said it was beautiful. "Aye, that it is," he said. "Follow me, then." He led her through the small cabin, taking her to each room one at a time. The last room he showed her was the room she would be using. "This will be yer room," he said. "I hope ye like it."
Wynter followed David as he showed her his home. She liked the fact that it was of a modest size. It would be easy for her to keep clean. All thst was missing was a feminine touch. When they reached her bedroom, she stepped inside and looked around for a few moments. It was beautiful and spacious. "I love it, David! Thank you so much, " she said happily, running over to him and hugging him.

David smiled when Wynter said she loved her room, then nodded when she thanked him. He was caught momentarily off guard when she hugged him, but he recovered quickly, returning her hug gently. He moved back a moment later and looked down at her. "I'm glad ye like it," he said. "For now, I want ye to relax and settle in. We can take care of any chores tomorrow. Is that alright with ye, Wynter?"
Wynter was happy that he hugged her back and a part of her liked the feeling of safety she felt when he put his arms around her. "That's fine with me, David. I think I'll try to get some rest first," she said softly, tilting her head back to look up at him. Now that she felt safe and everything, she could feel herself growing tired.

David nodded when Wynter said it was alright with her, then said she would try to get some rest. He could tell that she was getting tired, and he smiled at her. "Alright, go ahead and get some rest," he said. "I'll be in the living room if ye need me, alright?" He waited for her to nod before leaving the room and heading for the living room to watch TV.
Wynter smiled back as she nodded and watched him leave. Once he was gone, she partially closed the door and then went over to the bed. Not bothering to pull the covers down, she climbed on top of the bed and laid down. Rolling onto her back, she rotated her hips so that her knees were facing toward the door and rested an arm across her stomach. She then adjusted her head so that it was at a comfortable angle and turned her face toward the door as well. Comfortable now, she closed her eyes and sighed softly. Within seconds, she was sound asleep.
