Thick shimmering mist draped over the world like a shroud. It was strange and otherworldly, a barrier between him and the landscape he knew was there. As he trotted along, hooves sure and steady, shapes would loom out of the stark whiteness, become clear for a moment before vanishing back into the mist behind him. Grinning he moved into an easy lope, thrilling at the chill of the mist against his body, the slight sting that only seemed to make his blood run hotter and his legs move faster. Soon he was stretching his neck, legs flying, body driving forwards through the non-landscape around him at a reckless speed. Clod and stone scattered as he swung sharply, narrowly avoiding a tree that materialised right in front of his nose. Feeling bark scrape his shoulder as he shot past he let out a ringing call. A call of joy and freedom, a wild spirit in a wild place exulting in being alive.

A shiver ran through the female as the cool mist settled upon her flesh and with it, she felt as if she was protected within a secret world; one that only she ventured through. For days, the mare had enjoyed the serenity that came with traveling alone, it becoming a time to think and more so a time to reflect. Enjoying a leisurely stroll, her hooves touched upon the ground with a gentle step to match her calm pace, her head held high despite her mind was elsewhere for the moment. Of course, such peace would become shattered as the cry of another rippled about her, the mare halting while her ears pinned back in frustration.
Halting for the moment, she turned her head back and forth, her eyes scanning through the cloudy fog for any sign of the stranger though now the mist that she so enjoyed quickly became a barrier. Nostrils flaring, she found herself lightly pawing upon the ground in frustration as she looked for any clue of whom...or what was in the vicinity around her. This concept alone left her uneasy if not a hint of fear itself. There was no way to judge if it was friend or foe and that thought alone unnerved her even more.

Something, some instinct, caught at him. Making him sit back on his haunches, hooves braced as he slithered to a stone-scattering stop. It was the same feeling that guided him across the hills and helped him avoid the few humans he saw every so often. Straighening from his slide he stood, head held high and nostrils flaired as he snorted low, seeking some kind of hint as to what it was that had caught his attention. Stepping forwards now he slowly moved thrugh the thick fog, his silver dapple coat making him near invisable in the whiteness. Following the faint, yet enticing scent he walks quietly, the natural stillness of the fog making him instinctly disguise his steps. Suddenly the fog shifts just enugh for him to make out the dark figure of another several paces away. Ears pricking he tries to recognise the stranger, but he can't see clearly enough to identify them. With a mental shrug he walks silently closer, seeming to simply appear out of the fog as he drew up infront of her, his white coat disguising him until the very last moment. "Greetings."

Slowly her ears swiveled as she listened to the sounds around her. It had stopped? Quickly she searched for the source that now appeared to be gone, and a slight shiver ran through her form once more. Perhaps she merely observed the presence of a spirit that was passing through, much like herself. Taking care to continue her quiet walk, she took a few steps before a scent came upon the wind, nostrils flaring as she looked once more in her confusion. The mist was to thick to peer through, barely able to see further then the end of her nose.
Without warning, the male appeared and so surprised was the mare that she stumbled back in fear! With the cover of the mist and the dappled color of his pelt, he looked much like a phantom and spooked the female who stumbled upon her own legs as he tried to move away from him. The chestnut colored mare was only able to get a few feet away before she perked her ears, studying him intently. "Are...are you a ghost?" The question was perhaps silly in nature, but considering the circumstance, it wasn't quite outlandish to assume so!

Her sudden scramble surprised him. But he probably should have guessed that suddenly appearing like that would be a surprise to anyone. Contrite he tried to make himself appear threatening, though it was hard when he was naturally tall and clearly difficult to see in the whiteness. Taking a slow step forwards and making sure that his hoof clicked on the slightly wet rocks that littered the ground, in order to create a noise to go along with his pressence, he smiled warmly at her. "No ghost. I am flesh and blood just as you are." His voice was low and deep, with a husky, warm timbre to it that was at odds with his icy-white coat. Flicking his tail against his flank he dipped his head in appology. "I am sorry if I startled you. I did not expect anyone to be out here with the fog so bad."

Both of her ears perked up as he spoke and upon realizing that he was not a ghost, she visibly relaxed greatly. However, that didn't stop her from now moving slightly closer to the male, expecting him with slight interest. "I appreciate your apology, but I guess I got spooked a bit easier then I want to admit." Unlike him, her voice was soft and a had a gentle lull about it and seemed to fit the female quite well. "I've been out here alone for awhile. In fact you're the only other I've seen in a several days."
"I'm Juniper, what's your name?" She asked with curiosity, her eyes once more moving across his coat. It was unbelievable how well he blended into the mist whereas she stood out like a sore thumb. Perhaps that was why he had snuck up so easily upon her!

Relieved that she didn't seem too upset at him he smiled, watching with amusement as she inspected his coat more closely. Even among his family he was one of the more unusual ones, his stark white was simply too easy to breed darker. Allowing his body to settle and relax from his run, he tipped his head as she studied him, his bright blue eyes returning her appreciative look. "Honestly I'm not too surprised. Few tend to come out here when the visibility is so poor. For precisely the reason we nearly demonstrated." Chuckling he was glad he hadn't simply collided with her which would have been very easy to do in this weather. "I'm Stirling. It is a pleasure to meet you." He couldn't help but return her gaze, admiring her rich, warm, dark colours. So very unlike his own.

As he didn't seem bothered by her inspection of him, she grew bolder as she studied the coat he bore even closer. Never had she seen another with such a unique coloring with a pretty mane of grey. "You remind me of snow, Sterling....or what I imagine it to look like." Finally satisfied with her observation, she shifted her teal colored hues to his own. Despite she had truly enjoyed the moment of silence and solitary, she now found herself intrigued by the male.
Reflecting upon his previous statement, she couldn't help but chuckle as she nodded her head in agreement, causing the ebon strands to fall across her features. "Thankfully I heard you cry out to. That was the biggest giveaway that someone was out with me, or at least something." The idea that he could be a spirit now seemed rather humorous at best and she felt almost embarrassed to even think of the concept!

Her comment caused him to crane his head round in order to look back over himself. Eyeing his pure white coat with its light pattern of spots he chuckled softly. Looking back at her he smiled again. "Well, I was born high up in the mountains. We have plenty of snow up there." Flicking his tail idly he continued. "It is useful, as I am very hard to see in winter." Tilting his head he studied her intently, only just realising what she had said. "You have never seen the snow?" He sounded shocked.

The mare allowed a chuckle to be heard as she caught him off guard, shaking her head in response. The concept of snow was foreign to her; the mare having grown in the warm meadows several days journey from here. That thought caused her to smile and soon she was shifting her full attention upon him. "No, where I come from there are countless meadows and fields to run through and enjoy the sense of freedom...yet I never saw snow before. But you have, haven't you! Oh, tell me about it? Everything? "The question was asked in earnest as she studied him with a sense of excitement, her ears perking upwards as her tail swayed lazily back and forth. In fact, she would be infused with a childlike wonder as she kept her gaze upon him.

It took a moment for him to overcome his shock. The idea of someone never having seen the snow was so strange to hi when he had lived within its cold embrase for most of his life. Suddenly grinning broadly he jumped forwards, whipping round behind her and pressing his shoulder to her flank lightly as he came up on her oppersit side. "There is no way to describe the snow, you have to experience it." Flashing her another grin he pranced forwards, tail high and banner like behind him "Come. I will show you!"

There was no denying how ecstatic the stallion seemed to be with the concept of taking her back to see the snow. This was only even more confirmed as he pranced around excitedly, let alone his earlier brief touch. The thing was...did she truly wish to go and see this snow? How far was it from here? Shifting lightly from side to side, it was clear that Juniper was debating with herself as she tried to decide what was best for her interest. Not...that she really had any other plans. The mare lifted her face, glancing around at the every thicken mist that surrounded the duo in their own private 'world'. Well, had she not left the meadows in order to explore and truly discover what other worlds laid out there?
"...alright. I will go." Returning her attention fully upon the prancing male, she couldn't help but chuckle softly before a light shiver of excitement grew threw her. Perhaps this was going to be fun! "Do you even know how to get back there through this mist? I can't even see you hardly." Another tease as he was already hard enough to see if he wasn't close to her. Didn't he say something about disappearing in the snow? That thought caused her to frown slightly...hopefully he wouldn't abandon her in the white world that he wished to lead her to. That thought almost caused her to be hesitant in the concept of the adventure.

Pausing he turned back to give her a reasuring smile. She seemed nervous and it puzzled him, until he realised she was likely nervous of him. Hopefully she would give him time to prove that he wasn't someone she needed to be wary around. But he pushed the thought away, unwilling to entertain anything beyond this moment, this day, for the mist created them this special place and nothing should reside with them except this moment. Grinning when she finally agreed he moved back beside her, pressing his shoulder lightly to her own. "Don't worry, nothing could make me loose my way. And I won't loose you either." Taking a step he indicated for her to walk beside him. "Even if you can't see me easily, you can feel me, yes?" Easing into a trot he made sure to stay beside her, careful not to let her go adrift in the indistinct whiteness that surrounded them. It wasn't too far to the snowline, seeing as he had come down from the mountain's lowest peek just an hour ago. And within minutes the air around them grew noticably shill, a freshness to the air that hadn't been there before, making their fur glisten with frost-bits and the air felt bright and crisp in their lungs. Then suddenly they broke through the mist bank and were blinded by the bright flood of sunlight. Warmth washed them and lit the landscape all around. The snow sparkled like diamonds, crisp and pure. Little flurries of shimmering particles lifted all around them, stirred up by their hooves in the deep drifts and caught aloft by the sharp breeze. Behind them the fog bank hung like an indistinct wall of white-grey, forbodding, but before them was the brightness of the moutain in all its glory

It was hard for Juniper to trust a stranger, one whom she had only known for a handful of minutes. To allow him to guide and lead her to an unknown land was intimidating. Yet there was something about the male; an aura or perhaps it was just his presence that began to soothe her doubts. It was a pleasing sensation and soon she felt a wave of eagerness to come across her. An adventure awaited and with him by her side, she was about to see something she had never seen before; snow.
Keeping her shoulder to his own, she easily followed his gait, staying at a steady trot as they ventured up the mountain's side. At first, there was no difference, the white fog surrounding them as they continued their venture but bit by bit things changed for the female. A deep breath caused her to cough softly as the cool and crisp air filled her lungs, stinging them slightly as the new sensation assaulted her. A laugh shortly followed, she now shifting her teal gaze as she looked upon the sky. A few flurries landed upon her muzzle and she felt herself starting to come over ridden with excitement.
The snow, was nothing like what she expected! It was cold, yet soft. In her mind she had expected to feel much like water and perhaps more resistance. When they were met with a white blanket, the fog long behind them he would hear a distinct laughter coming from the mare who marveled at the new world around her. Snow was beautiful! Snow was exciting! Without warning, the female shifted into a quicker canter, running through the snow as she lifted her face back so that she could feel the cool wind move through her mane, whipping it around her features in a wild display.
Juniper never ran far, after all she didn't want to loose her guide! Heavens know she probably wouldn't find her way back. Instead she ran short distances, playing much like a colt would as she kicked up the once serene scene with her heavy hooves. Why didn't they get snow in the valley? She wished they did now!
Panting softly as she slowed down from a canter to a trot and finally an easy walk, she now searched for her companion as she breathed a bit faster. Running was not normally a task upon her body, but with the cold air it did add some new burden upon her lungs. "This is amazing..." She panted, shivering softly as the snow continued to lay softly upon her coat.
