Born to two slaves, Kani has never had a life of privilege. Her father was a hard working laborer while her mother was kept as a pretty house servant for an Oban noble. Despite being slaves to their fiery oppressors, they all lived a relatively happy life. Unfortunately for them, the good things didn't last. The noble of the house her mother had been working for had taken an interest in her, much to their displeasure. Her mother refused the noble's advances, and in return was killed for her retaliation. Now that the three of them are free, they've made their way slowly back to Matori, her and her father taking care of her younger brother as they went. Though young Kani wishes to explore and see things better beyond Oba and Matori, she knows that it is her duty to stay with her father and help raise her brother since her mother is gone. So for now she stays in the village, helping all those she can while raising her younger brother and practicing her magical abilities.

Dutiful: Forever doing what people ask of her, Kani never turns down a person in need of help in her village. She will always put others before herself, even if it means she misses out on an opportunity.
Cynical: While she is willing to help anyone in need, she is very distrustful of all and feels everyone has an ulterior motive of some sort. Everyone is out to get something, and though she feels it is her duty to assist she doesn't trust anyone outside of her family.
