In a futuristic world there are two different mindsets. One is traditional, focusing on the magic created through the individual person's personality and mindset, something that is formed early on. The other is focused on scientific advances, viewing their magic as something only to enhance their ability to work with the new technology. We are in the land of Jetia, a land still recovering from a devastating war that they barely won due to their technological advances as well as the timely explosion of the Florisan army's main lab.

Characters: Name: Gia Mandelas (Originally Hally Gren) Age: 29 Power: Healing Background: Gia was betrayed by her fiancé and nearly killed in the process. The name Hally Gren became famous for the poisonous gases made by her fiancé that devastated the Jeten forces during the war between the Jeten and the Florisan war. Used indiscriminately, it killed thousands of soldiers and civilians. When Gia learned what her fiancé was doing, she tried to stop the experiments he was performing upon her. He forced her to continue. Her reluctance and his desire to push results and earn a promotion caused an explosion. There was a four mile blast zone and an even larger area infected by the poisons he had created. The experiments nearly killed her and the explosion almost finished the job. She barely survived, but as a result her magic changed. She cannot die, her power thrown so out of control it is in overdrive, turning her immortal. Gia wants nothing more than to just die, but until she can figure out a way to end her life she is doing what she can to help the people of Jetia that were affected by the poisons created by her fiancé. Name: Malcom Acistat Age: 29 Power: Storage Background: Due to being unable to express emotions well, the male learned to hide quite a bit of them, though he can feel things quite strongly. being that he contained his emotions, the magics he are good at involve storing things primarily, and containing things secondary. During the war the man stored enough ammunition for the whole army should they run out, but when you're following a certain battalion, you're practically and unlimited ammunition supply. He was thankful the war ended, he saw too many soldiers die of various reasons, elements, possession, explosion. He had been running with one of his friends before hiding in a trench. The men shot and he saw his friend duck down, but when he grabbed him to give him more ammo, it turned out his friend's face had been blown off. When the war ended, he put himself in therapy. The trauma was lessened and dealt with for the most part, but his emotional range, not so much. He wanders around a lot trying to help towns and villages desecrated during the war. He has a lot of things in storage to help them from building materials to water and food and clothes.

Gia stepped off the transporter and looked around. Yet another village that showed the effects of the war. She shook her head, it had been three years since the war ended, and yet the people of Jetia were still struggling to recover thanks to the poison attacks. She pulled her bag higher on her shoulder and head for the nearest inn to find a place to stay while she worked here. As much as she was loathed to use them money earned through her experiments, she felt it was best used helping those hurt the most by them. She smiled at a little boy she passed and waved back as he ran to join his friends in playing. Though you could see the damage from the war, there was still happiness to be found. She walked into the inn and began to rent a room for the next week. she might end up staying longer, it depended on how much help they needed here. After asking for the location of the local hospital, she turned to go to her room and wash. Ever since the explosion, her balance had been off and she turned too fast to stay steady. She automatically tried to correct herself without falling, which resulted in her running into the man who was waiting behind her. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" she said softly, straightening and stepping back, "I'm a bit of a clutz."

The veteran was thankful to finally be in a village. He got transporter sickness so had to ride a shuttle there, or, as far as it could go anyway. He had to walk the rest of the way. It wasn't terribly far, but the thoughts of war had him checking the ground for mines, for people hiding in grass or behind exploded buildings. The village must have been a town at one point, but due to the damage, had been downgraded. Thankfully though they still had an inn. It probably housed more homeless than it did actual customers. He stepped in line behind the woman, bringing out some payment which quickly clattered to the ground as the patron in front ran into him. Well, he thought she was falling so he actually wrapped his arms around her to save her from the wooden floor beneath. She snapped away, the man raising his arms to show he meant no harm. "It's no problem." he said with a polite smile. "The floor does seem a bit uneven, but hopefully I'll be able to fix that. Are you sure you're all right? Will you need help going to your room?" (( wow so polite. look at him. all the polite ))

Gia smiled and shook her head, "That is very kind of you, but I shall be fine. I just turned a little too fast." she carefully bent to pick up his money and handed it back, "fix it?" she looked at the floor, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. "oh, are you a carpenter? that is wonderful to hear! this town certainly needs it." she stepped back after making sure she had given him all of his money, "from what the keeper told me, the hospital is in bad repairs so I'm sure I will see you around there Mr-?" she hadn't gotten his name, but if he were a contractor here to rebuild parts of the village, she would probably want to know his name. ((tots polite. can't decide if i want Gia to be chatty or not, but she is coming across that way and SOMEONE has to talk in this relationship blaugh ))

The man took the coins from her hands, counting them as he did so, "A carpenter of sorts, yes." This was all of his coin. "I'm Malcom. Just Malcom. I suppose after renting a room, I'll have to check out that hospital, hm?" he gave a small chuckle, side stepping her. "She bought the last room." The man looked at the keeper. "Pardon?" "The lass. Took the last free room. Lotsa rooms are for the homeless, lots of sharing going on." A small staring contest went between the two, it clicking finally with the patron. "Well I suppose I'll be sharing with the lass then, won't I?" "Good on ya." he took the payment and turned to the woman with a smile, "You have the key to the room, yes? Miss...?"

Gia stopped when she heard she had the last room. she was about to offer it to Malcom, happy to sleep in at tent if it meant she wasn't bothering someone else, but the man had already decided they were sharing a room. She gave him a quick once over and decided he probably wasn't the type to attack her in her sleep. then again, if he was, who cared? at least her body would offer someone comfort and a bit of pleasure for once, rather than pain and suffering. "I do," she smiled and held it up. "My name is Gia, sorry, I should have offered it when i asked you for yours." she indicated her head towards the stairs, "it's room 34 on the second floor. shall we?" it was unfortunate there was only one key, they would have to figure out how to work things out, but she was sure that she would end up giving him the key and figuring it out for herself. she walked up the stairs and stopped at their room, unlocking the door to let them both in. It was nicer than she had expected, certainly better than many of the places she'd been to before. It was clean with a fairly good sized bed that could fit the two of them with minimal touching and a small dresser. it even had an attached bathroom and she put down her bag to see if the water was working. "Oh good-" she sighed when the water turned on and after a few moments turned hot. "looks like we get hot showers if we want!" of course there was the ever convenient vib showers, but Gia hated how they made her skin tingle while it was getting the dirt and sweat off. "so, do you want the right or the left side?" she asked as she removed her cape and hung it on the coat rack.

"Gia, that's a lovely name." he said, following her up the stairs. "It's quite a large inn considering the town. I wonder if they restored this first." he mused out loud. Give everyone shelter best they could. It was a good idea. Seeing the room though, he gave a low whistle. "They did fix this up first." The bed had enough room to fit them both, there was a small dresser, easy to split up between them. He followed Gia to look at the bathroom. Single sink, working toilet (after a quick flush) and with the shower running, it grew hot after a few seconds. He saw the panel for a Vib shower, thank the lord. If he was going to be helping build things he couldn't take an hour in the shower, though, maybe tonight could be an exception. "Hm? Oh, I'll take whichever side is closest to the door, and you're free to use the dresser." He raised his hands with a chuckle, "I obviously don't have anything. I do, but I don't physically carry it. So feel free to fill it with your things. And you can shower first, so you can have the hot water as well." The man took off his own jacket and things, setting them up on the coat rack besides hers. "I'm sorry for all the demanding sort of things, I'm not quite used to sharing things with a woman before. I'm used to sharing with men."

Gia laughed softly, "you don't have to worry, i'm used to tents and open air toilets. this is one of the nicest places I've been to in years, there isn't really much you can do to shock or offend me." she had noticed he carried nothing with him and wondered if his magic had something to do with that. though the people here Jetia tended towards technology, many of them abandoning their magic altogether, so maybe he was one of them and had some sort of storage device. she grimaced slightly at the thought, making sure her back was turned to Malcom so he didn't see. She unpacked her bag, only having one spare outfit, a long gown for sleeping and her self-sterilizing work uniform, the rest were medical supplies that she kept in her bag. the uniform had been expensive but worth every penny since it made it so she didn't have to wash between each patient. she finished quickly and put her hair up into a messy bun. she didn't need to wash it since she'd washed it the night before. "i'll be quick in the shower," she promised as she took her gown and stepped into the bathroom with her toiletries. As promised, she didn't take long. For one, she didn't know how much hot water they had and for another, she hated seeing herself naked. The perfectly smooth skin where there should have been angry scars only served as a reminder of all she had lost. her bathing soap was one of her own make, using the sweet scent of apples to add a bit of pleasure to the daily task. she dried off and changed into her sleeping clothes and placed her day's outfit into the shower, turning on the vib to clean them. she would wear them tomorrow. she brushed her hair and braided it back while the shower finished. "Ok, it's all yours, sorry for the wait." she said brightly as she walked out, the scent of apples wafting out around her. The sweet smell followed her across the room as she walked to put the now clean clothes away, "i'm going to bed, it's going to be a long day tomorrow. don't worry about being quiet, though, i'll be reading for a while first." she slipped into the side of the bed furthest from the door and picked up medical journal and a pencil to take notes as she read.

Tents and open air toilets? The man could only stare at her, shocked. Where had she been previously? Had she been a refugee? The man looked her up and down. She couldn't have been. No scars, no signs of stress, no callouses of hard work. A noble on the run? He thought about this, taking a moment to realize she had left to the bathroom. The shower was still running. Malcom focused on the door, listening to the sounds beyond it for a moment. The sound of light shower water, then heavy water, wringing out her hair or it falling off her body at an angle. That was a thought he cut off quickly, turning to her bag. A refugee or a noble? What else was there? A nurse, perhaps? He looked into it, taking out what appeared to be a uniform. A nurse then. It looked like one of the self sterilizing uniforms. Setting it aside, glancing at the door, he continued sifting around. Bottles and boxes of medicine, syringes, gauze, tape, sutures. She had to have been a nurse, or a doctor considering the size of her supplies. A bag of food, the bag itself being a preservation bag. Kept the food inside fresh. It took a moment to realize the water had turned off, moving everything inside the bag as he found it (or best he could, anyways), before moving to his side of the bed, taking off his boots as she walked out. "Oh, that was fast." he commented, placing his boots at the end of the bed, the mattress being weighed down as she moved onto her side. He knew that smell. "Looks like heavy material." he teased lightly as she pulled out the book, going to the bathroom and closing the door behind him. All at once the smell which was light and mild on her hit his nose full force. Apples. When was the last time he actually ate fresh fruit? Suddenly he craved it, undressing and turning on the shower, opening his palm, watching the shapes of light flicker through before grabbing one, light disappearing and showing a bottle of shower wash. It simply had a clean scent, but was much nicer on the skin than the soap the military handed out. Sandpaper would've been nicer on his skin, and his skin was hardly sensitive. Rinsing off, the shower water was turned off and the vib turned on, tossing his clothes in and letting it work on them. The soap was put away, the man pulling out the old military shirt and some slightly nicer pajama pants, the vib finishes and Malcom walking out with the clothes. "Sorry about that. I'd forgotten what hot water felt like." Setting the fabric at the foot of the bed, he got under the blankets, taking off his glasses and putting them under the pillow. "So are you a nurse, Gia? Or a doctor perhaps?"

Gia put the journal away on the side table and moved to lay down as well, "A doctor," she confermed as she pulled the blanket up and settled into the pillow. "I've been traveling around, helping where I can. The war was rough on all of us," her voice was soft when she said that, knowing that quite a lot of the pain caused was thanks to her cursed body. she hated what her fiance had done to her, what he had used her for. "unfortunately there is more work than most can handle so I go where I am needed. I'm guessing it's the same for you?" a contractor would be able to help almost as much as a doctor. everyone needed a place to live, and many of their homes had been destroyed in the war.

A doctor. He nodded in agreement. "It has. Friends and families are lost, or worse, friends and families only lose one person. the gap is the same, regardless." he sighed, fluffing his pillow. "My job is hard. Finding help isn't hard, it's putting everything back together. And I'm skin and bones so I don't do the work." he shrugged, "I gather materials and bring them back for a lot of buildings. It's a strain but I've helped quite a few areas out already." he gave her a small smile, "They get houses and libraries back and hospitals. It certainly helps you out. If theirs is destroyed, we could try building that back up first if it makes your job easier."

Gia smiled, "that is incredibly kind of you. I will have to look at it, but it sounds like there is enough of the hospital left for us to be able to work. focus on getting people homes first, that's most important. I'll let you know the state of the hospital tomorrow so you won't have to waste time coming to look." she had been wondering how much use he would be when he was so thin. but sometimes it was the wiry ones that were the strongest. she yawned, hand over her mouth, and started to nod off. "i've an early morning, so i'm going to sleep. goodnight, Malcom." she closed her eyes and was almost instantly asleep, able to sleep whenever she could after years of getting little to no sleep while helping patients.

"More people can be housed in the hospital if they cannot be housed here. At least the injured will be somewhere safe. I prefer large buildings being done first, as cruel as it sounds, they serve more purpose than homes. But if the hospital is in relatively good condition, I'll see if I can go about fixing a few homes first." She tucked herself in, turning away from him. Truthfully, she seemed quite willing on sharing a room. It was strange, incredibly so. Really odd. What sort of woman willingly shares a room with a man? What if he was a murderer, a rapist or a human trafficker? What about all of the above? He rested his head on the pillow, back turned to her. He'd probably have an early morning too. Wander around, see what needed repair. He hadn't really been paying attention on his way in. Somewhere between these thoughts he fell asleep.

Gia slept soundly through the night, her dreams only desterbed by nightmares a few times. she was used to them by now, though. she would wake briefly and was able to go right back to sleep, her only worry was that she would bother Malcom's rest. She knew from others telling her that she didn't toss and turn in her sleep, just softly cry. she would wake up with wet cheeks and know she'd had a rough night, but she was glad that was the only sign of her dreams that ever showed. she woke with the sun, as she normally did, but there was something different this time. there was a weight around her torso and a warmth that didn't come from any blanket. she tried to shift, but was unable to move and finally opened her eyes to find she was looking directly into Malcom's chest. Somehow during the night they had ended up curled around each other, their legs tangled with such ease, it was as if they had been doing it for years. one arm was firmly around her chest while the other pillowed her head and she winced a little knowing that it was most likely asleep. Her own arm was around Malcom's stomach while the other had fisted into his shirt. his chin was resting on top of her head and for a moment she allowed herself to soak in the physical contact. it was something she hadn't really allowed herself in a long, long time. but there was the fact that she was fairly sure Malcom would be horrified by their position should he wake up and she decided it might be best to slip away before he did. it was a great plan in theory, but in practice? not so much. for a man that said he was all skin and bone, he sure was strong. Gia tried to ease away at first, and when that didn't work, she tried to lift his arm off her. Still no luck. she probably spent five minutes trying to get out, but to no avail. not only did Malcom seem to be rather strong, or at least stronger than her, but he was quite the deep sleeper as well. finally Gia gave up. it was embarrassing, but she was starting to feel nature's call in a really urgent way and needed Malcom to wake up! "Malcom," she said, trying to shake him. "Malcom, time to wake up." she sighed when that didn't work, "Mal~com, wakey wakey eggs and bacey."
