Lockes

It had been quite some time since Lockes had put it in her mind to travel such a long distance. She never had the habit of staying in one place and traveled often, but just a small distance every day. Walking for too long or through a terrain that one wasn't used to could cause sweating and while healthy, sweat was not a perfect accessory when you wanted to look at least clean for the public eye.

However, today was different. Today, yesterday and the day before too, where different because she had been informed by a mare of the most relaxing place in the entire Western Region. She couldn't recall what had happened to the zealous mare she'd come across, but it was through her that she'd learned of the Hot Springs that were located in the Western Mountains.

While it was fortunate that Lockes had been in the Western Plains as the news had drifted to her, she had realized upon the second day of her travel, that the mountains were so far away. Much to her growing despair, she found that the mountain trails themselves were full of loose rocks and dust, which stuck to her sweaty coat and made her pale coat look brown. Why, she was practically a dark bay! How humiliating!

It was this realization that had fueled her to almost running the rest of the way to the hot springs and much to her grand relief, it appeared to be a very empty area, today at least. She trotted over to the closest pool she could find and dabbed her hoof at its surface in a dainty fashion. She let it sink in ankle deep and when she decided that it was hot a scalding temperature, she climbed in the rest of the way, sinking all the way up to her head and letting her fur and fabric become entirely heavy with hot water.

"Ohhhh...." Sighed the mare. This certainly was relaxing. She was practically purring with how good everything felt when she heard hoofsteps coming up the main road. She perked her ears in slight alarm. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! What would she ever do if someone saw her like this? While it was true that the dust had washed off from her fur and hair and fabric, she was sure that she looked positively ridiculous damp.

The only thing to do, she supposed, was to be polite. Tilting her head back a bit, she cleared her throat and called out in as welcoming a tone as she could manage,
"You needn't be shy, my dear. We're the only ones here, it seems and the water is absolutely, lovely." Said she, hoping that the one that had approached would be at least as friendly as she was trying to be.

This was positively enough. Though there were times where the journey was worth it, he did NOT believe that this would be one of those times. Hideaki had been traveling most of the week to reach these hot springs. Having been to them before, he knew that they were wonderful to relax in, especially this time of the year. But with how long the Winter had stretched, it was difficult for a smaller stallion, such as himself, to make their way here fast enough! Sometimes being part flutter had it's drawbacks. Not enough to make him sad about his gloriously beautiful wings, mind you, simply sad about the small stature that came with it. He sometimes wondered if Unicorns were also small... Thus adding to his... well... subtracting from his height in this case. Never having met a pure unicorn, but having met plenty of pure flutters, he was sure this wasn't the case. The pure flutters he met all seemed shorter than himself. Of course, he's also only met pure mare flutters. As he thought about this some more, he shook his head, deciding that he really needed to get out more or something. Clearly there were far too many Soquili who had never had the pleasure to be graced with his far more beautiful presence. He smiled to himself as he thought of this.

With the big grin still plastered onto his face, Hideaki tripped on a rather large stone. Certainly what he deserved for not paying attention to the road in front of him, but he didn't have time to form that thought as the ground came up to meet him. Getting up slowly, he shook himself off. When he looked down, he noticed that it didn't help in the slightest to get any of the dust and mud off of his beautifully colored coat. If anything, shaking himself out seemed to have spread it all out further! How terribly humiliating for someone as beautiful as himself to be covered in something as... well... as dirty as dirt to be quite frank! It was certainly a good thing that he was headed to the hot springs already. If he hadn't been, who knows how long it would be before he would be able to wash out all the filth! Looking himself up and down again he discovered one thing he was pleased about with the fall. He hadn't skinned his knees or bruised his legs! These would have been much larger tragedies indeed! After all, you can't wash scrapes and bruises away in water. Though you can at least wash the blood out... But that wasn't the point! He had escaped that terrible fate! It made him especially happy since the weather was getting warmer and he would have to hide away for at least a week if something so terrible had happened to his beauty!

Pleased with himself and having a far more positive outlook on the whole spill, he started to make his way over the hill, the hot springs just over beyond it! Just as he was sighing in relief, he heard a noise. It was the sound of someone speaking to him. Great... Just what he needed after his spill... Someone to see how dirty he was.

Speaking in a big, but friendly voice, he called back out as he made it over the hill, "As long as you are sure we are the only ones, I will certainly try to be bold! But you must promise not to laugh..."

Lockes

Lockes let out a sound somewhere between a sigh and a giggle of relief when the other Soquili replied sounding about as nervous as she had been upon hearing their approach. Shaking her head slightly, she replied in what she hoped were soothing tones.

"Darling, I promise not to laugh, so long as you do me the same curtesy." She informed them, for she was certain she was looking quite ridiculously wet. The volume of her mane and tail dissolved as soon as she had walked into the water, now falling in smooth, flat waves. If she were to get out so soon, a halo of frizz would appear between her ears.

Beautiful as she often looked, she was not naturally so perfect and had to work for her perfection. Between cracking nuts for their oils to make her hooves shine, cutting split ends with her blade, and holding her curls together with the stickiness of tree sap (a trick she would die with, for she would surely die if anyone found out about it.)

Beauty tips aside, her eyes were now on the figure that was coming towards her. At first, she thought it was a mare, for it was small in statue and had a very curly mane. Upon closer inspection however, she found that it was a stallion coming towards her, and a dirty one at that. Something in her stirred, but the steam of the springs soothed her mind and didn't lead her to dwell on it.

"I dare say I was in a similar state coming up here." She said to him, with a look of sympathy, "The water does wonders for the dirt, I assure you. Come in, come in. No one should have to stand in such agony while others bathe." She insisted, moving slowly to an edge of the pool, so the stallion would have more room, however small he was. When she had settled in again, she sighed contentedly and looked back to the bright-coated stallion, "My name is Lockes, by the way. Who do I have the pleasure of addressing?"

Hideaki very slowly approached the pool of water. At least this mare had kept her promise and no laugh, not even a small giggle, had escaped her lips at his expense. It certainly would have been something he wouldn't have been able to live down if she had laughed at him... In his state, it wouldn't really work too well for him. He was pretty riled up for a beauty queen type after all. And that wouldn't do well for anyone. As he was close, he could now see her form better. She certainly seemed pretty enough. Even with her hair in the mess that it was. And she even looked like she had her own curls to contend with. Nothing like bonding over hair.

As he came up beside her, he watched her move over. It made him laugh a bit cause he certainly didn't need too much room for a stallion. Being a simple flutter meant that he was pretty small. Small meant he didn't take up a lot of physical space, but his personality certainly took up a lot of room! Flamboyant and pretty full of himself, so he did take up enough space as is he guessed.

Carefully he lowered himself into the water. It was important now that he was so covered in dirt that he try and submerge himself completely. Usually he would be extra careful of his wings, as delicate as they are, but today he wants to be sure that he gets nice and clean. They won't break, he's sure of that. And they needed to be just as clean as the rest of him too. Wiggling around a bit, he made sure to cover himself in the nice warm water. Sighing a bit he perked back up as the mare spoke to him.

"My name is Hideaki. It's nice to meet you Lockes." He smiled widely at her before continuing, "Ive actually been here before! And it's always been a wonderful experience. It's just a good thing that I ended up getting so dirty near the end of my travels... It would have been terrible to end up so dirty at the start of my travels. It took a bit of time to get here after all!" He smiled at her as he moved to face her a bit better. "How long did it take you to get here? Did you come from very far away?" He wiggled a bit with excitement, then realized that he may be being very rude to go ahead and ask her so many things. Bowing a bit, he apologized. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to end up prying into your life so much already!" He blushed a bit. The red being highlighted by the teal color in his face. This was certainly an off day for him. First getting so dirty then not minding his manners. Usually he would at least wait until the other was rude to show colors like that. And it usually wasn't too much fun when he was rude. A smile across his face and sharp words coming from his mouth.

Lockes

Lockes looked politely away when the stallion joined her in the water, not wanting to stare at him. Staring, she found, prompted all sorts of insecurities, which was something that she would loathe to have new new companion go through. No, no, she mustn't stare, it wasn't even an option for her.

She looked instead at the pool of water in front of her, looking back to the Flutter stallion when the waves in the pool had calmed to gentle ripples. At his conversational tone and large grin, she found herself returning the show of friendliness and inclined her head towards the stallion, or rather, to Hideaki.

"It's a delight to meet you as well, Hideaki." She returned before he continued and she found herself listening to him attentively, though she smiled shyly at the bombardment of questions. "Oh, well, um..."

She let out a soft sigh of relief when the smaller Soquili recognized his error and he apologized for prying into her life. Her smile growing a bit, she replied.
"Thank you for your apology. It's... been a while since someone has asked so much about me that I wasn't sure how to react at first." She straightened in the water and cleared her throat. "Now, however, I am ready to answer those questions."

"I was actually in one of the central region's forests when I heard of these Hot Springs. They sounded so lovely and relaxing that I put it in my mind to come straight away, though I must admit, I had forgotten what a long walk it is from the Central Valley to the Western Region. It was quite the adventure, though it may not appear so to some who are always traveling, I suppose." Lockes stopped herself before her reply turned into a monologue. "What of yourself? Where did you journey from?"

Hideaki smiled as the mare seemed to be alright with his questions. It was certainly a change to have someone who was actually so receptive to them! It didn't happen too often. And usually made him quite the grump when it didn't turn out the way that he wants it to. Or at least that they aren't kind enough to tell him their name. That just really makes him mad. It's actually something that's made him rather unhappy to talk to other. Often snuffing his nose at them. So, to most, he comes off as cold. Though this isn't always a bad thing as far as he was concerned. He could flirt with whoever he wanted and then the ones who got his attention could feel special. But this mare didn't need to know about any of that. It would take too much to bother with. And she seemed nice enough anyway. Didn't laugh at him at least, so that was a plus!

"Adventure seems to happen a lot when someone travels places. It happens a lot to me! Or at least it happens a bit more than one would think. I honestly wouldn't think that a flutter would end up going into so many places really..." He thought on it a minute. "I actually come from a small herd of females. They live in nests..." He looked at her for a minute. Not sure if she would actually understand. "But yeah, that's where I come from. But I'm actually traveling around for a while just to find out who I am. Maybe find some friends." He nodded and then smiled at Lockes again. "I know it's probably strange coming from pretty much nowhere, but I travel here at least once a season. It's important to relax I think."

As he thought a bit, he tilted his head a bit to the right. "Did you grow up with your parents? I was left with the mares. They don't usually keep males actually... But they decided that I was important. I'm pretty sure that they just thought I was adorable when I popped out. And they were flutters themselves." Hideaki smiled and popped himself under the warm waters. Wanting to make sure that he got everything clean from the terrible dirt accident. Dirt was a terrible thing indeed. Always getting into places it shouldn't and sticking there. Though the only bad thing was that he would have to wait hours later for his wings to dry out completely. Flutter wings were terrible to have in that way.

Coming back up, he shook himself out a bit, the water flying away from his hair and face as the curly locks he came in with looked terrible now. Matted against his neck and face. Though there wasn't much that he could do about that for now. Since his hair would simply have to dry out in order to curl up again. And that would take just as long as his wings. And he would have to try and brush his hair when it dried too. That was almost the worst part. Though he usually managed it fine in the end.
