Snow felt colder in the city, though he could not figure why.

The flakes fell in great quarter-sized discs, lighting on the ground where they resisted melting so defiantly that they built a thick blanket over the ground. What was once street now filled over with new snow, only to suffer compacting at the hands of the traffic brazen enough to cross white roads. Most stayed indoors, with only a few stragglers well bundled up to plant their footsteps across the sidewalks. Most wandered for grocery stores or other needful places, and fewer still preferred trips out solely for hot chocolate at the local coffee shops. However, with the snow already thick and building further, most were loathe to remain outside for longer hours than necessary.

Ever a hunter, Umber found the footprints far too easy for tracking purposes. He considered it a refresher course mostly, with following the same distinct set of footprints to find the individual it belonged to. It kept his mind from the cold if he kept moving, and if lucky, he would discover the owner of such tracks entirely alone.

He secured more than one energy orb in that fashion.

Currently Umber came to a halt at the edge of a parapet, knocking off a thin sheet of snow onto the ground below, and took the pause to survey the stretch of city before him. Now white-topped and dusted, the buildings stretched and sprawled with less differentiation than before. Both sides parted for the bridge further out, caged in by fencing to prevent unnecessary suicides, and further out the next branch of metropolis to claim the earth. It was here that he remained several breaths longer, enjoying the biting cold that spread in his lungs.

A sense of unfamiliarity took him, and Umber opened his eyes to the greyed skies and rooftops peppered with snow. Behind him lay nothing more than the endless streets he already traversed, their power lines, the various ventilations present on the roofs, and other oddities endemic to a city. He had not yet spotted any man or creature lurking under the guise of enemy.

Come then, visitor. It's too cold to stand idle. If you would seek me for my actions, then be of the mind to make something of your offenses.

Its not the best sorry about that. and Kao helped out alot today heart

Havasu cursed his desire to become a better fighter. If he hadn't decided that patrolling in the snow would be good practice he would have been snuggled under blankets, watching Netflix, munching on popcorn, all as the frozen white stuff fell peaceful outside of his loft windows. Instead he had get it in his thick head that patrolling in all kinds of weather was good practice to determine the limitations and advantages that Mother Nature provided. And he has found that snow hides holes, is deeper than it appears, and didn't provided the greatest traction since he had a few moments where Havasu swore it was like he was auditioning for the Ice Cascades.

The page was carefully making his way through an alley when he sensed something, his skills with distinguishing auras was getting better with his near constant practice but it still took him longer to pinpoint the feel of chaos then he would have liked. A negaverser was out in this 'winter wonderland' as well, and was pretty close too if Havasu was correct in what he sensed. The page paused in the shadows, the snow falling around him peacefully, trying to pinpoint the location of the wrongness he knew was near. His cowboy boots churned up the slush as he shuffled slightly in place trying to keep warm, even with the extra jacket that he donned after powering up. He held on to his hat to keep it in place as he looked up at the roof tops wondering if the ‘disturbance in the force’ was coming from there. He didn’t see anyone and Havasu was quickly distracted by the dance of the falling snow. One could imagine that they were flying through space at warp speed since the light was catching the white flakes as they were falling into the shadows of the alley.

The lieutenant paced the parapet slowly. His gaze peered down the glittering stretches of snow in the few rays of sun that managed to penetrate otherwise seamless clouds. A breeze stirred, sending the flurries cascading around in whimsical spirals. Umber frowned; the addition of such movements ruined his ability to perceive actions in his peripherals. It is a matter of spotting them against the snow. I am no stranger to this game. Their uniforms are lacking for simplicity and camouflage - it will not be difficult.

With the city awash in neutrals and buried beneath white, pacing the length of the building produced no obvious signs of enemies. Yet in peering down another alley, his gaze crawling far to its mouth, he discovered a man dressed in western attire with his gaze locked on the skies. The sight offered far too much opportunity to the hunter, and he dropped down in a series of descents before he hit the ground in a soft crunch.

His approach started slow, deliberate in order to avoid too much noise, before he finally broke into a sprint as he neared his opponent. Briefly he stooped toward the ground where he scooped enough snow to launch into his opponent's face, should he not possess the attentiveness to dodge.

Havasu was contemplating giving up his sudo-training for the night when something made him turn enough to catch a movement out of his corner of his eye. Something was coming right at him and he ducked. He was fast but not quite fast enough, his hat was smacked off with a splatter of snow right on the brim. The spray of the breaking ball scattered across half his face as the leather hat fell in the powder at his feet allowing new flakes to start coating his sandy blond hair.

The surprise of the attack and he slick alley had him falling from his on his backside into the wall. "What the..." He faded off as he saw a shadow further down in the alley. He wasn't alone anymore and his 'training' was about to change to a battle. He couldn't make out the figure but the general feel was a negaverser, same level as him which made things a bit better. Havasu decided to return the favor with a snowball of his own hoping to give him enough time get back on his feet. He didn't think it would land but if his luck held it would give him the time he needed.

Umber took off again when he saw his attack land, and thick sprays of snow shot up from the backs of his heels in pursuit. It was a gamble, he knew, to reach speed when pursuing a moving creature - the snow prevented quick stops should the strange and unfamiliar aura move out of the way. However, it balled up enough sluice to hurl at him, which prompted Umber to slide to a halt to defend his face. Instead, the snowball struck him squarely in the shoulder. It provoked a backward lean, but the damage was already done in that his pursuit was halted needlessly.

With only a dozen feet between them, Umber approached once more at a clip. The man already found the time to rise, which meant the lieutenant had a clear shot toward his abdomen and the viscera that lay unprotected by bone and tougher sources. No other creature is daring enough to show delicate weak spots at a constant rate. What are we but possessed by hubris in the animal world. But there are no tools between us now.

Upon reaching his target, Umber swung an uppercut toward the man's stomach and prepared to follow up the attack with a knee to the groin if the potentially slippery creature did not evade him. He expected as much - some of the other creatures like this page have possessed lightning speed and great inclination to use it. He knew only one advantage was needed to win a fight of roughly equal persons, and he hoped that advantage lay on his side.

Doesnt help that he isnt the best fighter.... that or i just get too much of a kick in making him fall down XD

Havasu had scrambled to his feet and was mighty pleased that his snowball had struck true. He was rather surprised however as his opponent hesitated only slightly before forging ahead with more sure footedness then Havasu would have thought possible. He spread his feet further apart, stabilizing himself in the snow, and bracing himself for the fight that was coming right for him in the form of the negaverser barreling down the alley at him.

Holding himself ready he reacted with speed that he rarely was able to show when his opponent finally was within reach. The strange looking fellow had swung first but Havasu was expecting such a move and dodged to the left, away from the alley wall, his own hand striking out to latch onto the offending wrist. He was hoping to propel his opponent further towards the end of the alley but Havasu forgot a few important facts. One, it was snowing; two, they were in a alley and it was covered with hidden obstacles; and three, his shoes did not act well with fast movements. As he stepped to the side to dodge his boot landed on a snow hidden bottle and skidded out from under him, throwing the knight off balance. His outstretched hand clawing for a purchase of some sort on his enemy as gravity pulled him to the slushy ground. A curse bursting from his lips as he fell.

While he managed some training with Cinnabar, Umber never achieved much excellence with correcting course when the enemy dodged his attack. It left him at an awkward, stilted angle afterward that he was trying to avoid, but the page he fought took care of that.

Umber realized the page wasn't the embodiment of total ineptitude when the man caught his wrist, but the sudden tumble he took discredited that notion. The move sent Umber lurching backwards and fighting for his own balance, which only ended poorly when the snow refused to pack underfoot - he, too, went down with a grunt. Once the initial shock of the landing wore off, Umber tried to kick at his foe's hand to free his own. Either it worked, or the wetness afforded by the snow left them both slippery enough to condemn sure grips.

The snow clung to him desperately, leaving wide tracks of white on his shoulders, back, and thighs that threatened to soak through the thin uniform. If he's going to keep at this, I'll end up with hypothermia. A poor tradeoff for fighting a foe. With gaze still focused on the page, Umber tried to brush away as much of the snow as he could, but its frigidity already bit through his uniform to leave him shaken with cold. It's a better idea for both of us to just leave. I have more important duties to spend my time on.

Umber sank into a defensive position against the brick wall, and waited for his opponent to strike.

Havasu's grip wasn't tight and he lost it completely when the negaverser shook him off. Like his opponent, not that he realized it, the cold snow was soaking through his uniform belatedly reminding him that he should have grab a jacket. He fended off the kicks and scrambled out of range and climbed to his feet where he promptly started to shimmy and dance around. "Snow down the shirt! Snow down the shirt!" It left a icy trail down his spine as he desperately tried to remove the clump of snow. For the love of god! What was with this weather that made Havasu's life a living hell? He so couldn't wait until spring.

When the snow finally dropped from the back of his shirt, or melted, Havasu was fully chilled and quite annoyed. In a fit of childishness he scooped up a fresh ball of snow and tossed it towards his cold opponent. “Who the hell attacks in a freaking snow storm anyway?” It was a half hearted throw and he really didn't think it would land. With luck both fighters would be sufficiently cold and wet enough to just let it go but Havasu wouldn't walk away unless he did.

The sudden break into the Dance of the Creeping Snow disrupted Umber's focus enough that he no longer found want or reason to fight the man. As interested as he might be in collecting a starseed, the amount of trouble in this instance marked it a frivolous endeavor - he was already cold and partially damp from the weather, and securing a starseed entailed a higher chance of hypothermia than he felt comfortable with. Finally umber shifted into a crouch with both hands hanging loosely, his leather gloves threatening to brush the compacted snow near his feet.

"Those who have penchant for duty," he answered back, gaze still lighted on the thoroughly frustrated man. Hunger does not cease in icy conditions, nor sleep. Why should the hunt find any pause. But there are times we must lay down our weapons, else we freeze alongside Napoleon's army in Russia.

"You should go." Umber summoned up his communications crystal with the thought still weighing on his mind of calling a General-Sovereign. The acquisition tired him somewhat, but not enough to dissuade him. He seems to have trouble with snow navigation - even without being trussed and tied, he will not be able to escape my sight in this weather. On the other hand, he has not demonstrated any appreciable combat value and his personality doesn't speak of enough manipulation tactics to bring anyone into the Negaverse. I could bluff to get him to leave.

"Unless you want to join the Negaverse."

Havasu reluctantly and silently agreed with the negas reason for being out in the snow. After all duty was why he was out as well, granted he was just trying to see how the weather hampered him and not actually looking for a fight. He crossed his arms over his chest to help generate body heat. He dared not turn his back to this guy but Havasu knew that soon the cold would drive him back to his apartment, he would have to venture out another day.... With a jacket hopefully.

He shook his head at the guy, not trusting him further then he could throw him. "You go first. Not about to leave my back open to you twice." He shivered slightly and blew on his hands to help them warm up, his gloves doing little to keep his fingertips warm. The crystal the dude pulled out made him hesitate, that was new.... At Least to him. He eyed it and the figure that was holding it.

At the idea of him joining the negaverse Havasu laughed out loud, the sound oddly muffled in the falling snow. "Not looking to get killed any time soon. Thanks all the same." The very thought of how pissed his friends would be if he willingly went to the dark side made Havasu shake his head vehemently. No way in hell! Once more he eyed the guy, could Havasu make it out of the alley without a confrontation? He angrily muttered internally profanities, peeved that there were too many variables to really make a move but worried that he was about to have his decision ripped from his hands.

"Then walk backward," Umber shot back without budging. The laughter Havasu belted out fell thickly between them, deadened on the snow. Their voices had not carried far, and their tussle found similar results. He wondered if anyone knew where they were - if anyone fostered the curiosity to check between alleys anymore. He surmised that they would find their conclusion without audience to augment the end result. Even with the intercom in his hands, he knew.

"Then leave, and take note that I did not offer you a choice." With his gaze still settled on the Page, Umber held the crystal to his lips. He supplied no energy to power the comm link, but he hoped that a shift in grip might indicate that he turned the device on and that his words would broadcast over a secured channel. "Requesting General-Sovereign assistance in the alley behind Smith & Co on Lowell street. Page is ready for corruption." Afterward he lowered his arm to hang slack at his side, crystal still in palm, and offered Havasu one last nod toward the street. "Your presence is looking like passive acceptance for indoctrination, Knight. Are you so certain on this?"

Umber hoped his attempts to brush away this page might finally take this time. While he knew the man harbored scanty fighting skills, it spoke nothing of his potential interests in taking advantage of blind spots. 'Honor' was a concept invented by men that applied to fights, but men knew no laws as frequently as Nature's. Havasu may not be so interested in honor.

The bottle that Havasu had slipped on only moments ago in the alley way rolled softly over the freshly fallen snow. Where the two enemies feet had trodden during their battle was now a new layer of white crystal ice sparkling in the limited light. Havasu knew the guys suggestion had merit. Just walking backwards would not only get him out of there but would allow him to keep an eye on the nega. The only problem was Havasu wasn't sure if he could keep his footing in the treacherous snow. If he fell or ran into something or god forbid others showed up he would be in deep s**t.... A small part of him liked the idea of getting into trouble since it would cause a rush of adrenalin, something he truly liked. He stood up, his back to the wall and hesitated for only a moment before taking a step away, the cold had to be messing with him because Havasu swore a small part of his mental conscious cried out asking for a fight. Who fights when they are half frozen.

Keeping an eye on the guy Havasu got a few steps away when the nega called for reinforcements, Havasu's heart started to race. "Seriously dude!" It was one thing to maybe pick a fight with one guy but someone who could just sit on Havasu was not someone he wanted to meet. Moving a bit quicker now he took faster steps away, will facing the negaverser. "It's too damn cold out here for this s**t. Have fun with your tea party." He took yet another step and slipped, he was lucky because he landed in a large snow bank. What made it so large wasn't anything he wanted to think about. A glimmer of glass, and something more, shimmered under a covering of snow by his feet.

Tea party? What tea party? Umber wanted to ask, and he would've, but a curious vessel discarded in the snow seized his attention. Initially he only observed it, but when his adversary showed similar interest in it, Umber elected to make his own advance to steal it away.

It might've been nothing more than a beer bottle - and the thought crossed the lieutenant's mind - but should that be the case, then he would hold a more legitimate weapon than the pair of threadbare gloves he wore now. An easy clash with one of the brick walls, and he might be able to do some serious damage with it. And if that did not ward away the page, then he would have to hope that his faked call might.

"If you can't hold your footing in the snow, then what were you doing outside in the first place?" The lieutenant retorted on approached. Knowing that he tread within the page's reach, he leaned over to take a swipe at the curious object that lay near them both.
