It was cold enough out to crack glass if you tapped it too hard. Abbot thought about just staying home, if only because keeping the shop open in this weather might have been a loss. Who was even going to be out in this weather? In the end it was Amanda digging at her chest that got Abbot up. She always was the more responsible one anyway. So there Abbot was, in a store with cranked heat, straightening and re-straightening books with large extra hot latte in hand and Amanda snoozing in the corner.
The day passed in cycles most of the time. It was that same with this one. It was just that this cycles passed slower than molasses going uphill. Circle through the aisles, check emails, organize front desk and POS, love on Amanda, repeat.
Something had to happen.

Bellatrix was going through a mid life crisis. Clearly that was what was going on. She didn’t power up. She didn’t really…do much of anything but worry about things. Those were the only things that the single mom did now…was work and worry.
She had decided that it was time to go out. Time to go do something. Anything.
Retail therapy seemed like the best choice for her at the moment, so here she was…for some reason in a children’s book store. It was bright and happy, that was for sure.
Maybe the real issue in her life was the fact that her baby was growing up so quickly…maybe she just wanted…to relive her daughter’s childhood…because…she was going into high school next year…and that was just too much. It was always just all too much. Ugh.
The woman walked over to one of the shelves, picking up one of Lenka’s old favorite books. She sighed as she opened it, reading the familiar words. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie…it would never get old. Ever. Seriously.
