Frost stared down at the iced over pond with a deep frown. The normally quiet mare was so focused on the image reflected back at her that she was unaware of the world around her. There was a time when she would have never stared so intently at anything, nor allowed herself to forget her surroundings. However, time with Jayhk had given her a thread of confidence, and a hint of security. Even without the hints of a spine, she would have ended up gazing intently at the ice. There, in her reflection, she thought she had seen something. But surely she was mistaken. She had been hoping for so long... they both had been trying for years, but without success... surely it was just wishful thinking... And yet...
She shifted just a little closer to the icy pond and turned a little to get a better view of her reflection.

Jyahk came up before his mate, nuzzling her neck lightly. "You alright?" he murmured into her mane. He was ready to try again, if they had to, to reach their goal. He had a feeling that they would one day have baskets, and if there was one thing his life had taught him... it was that perseverance pays off. Every time.
That was how they met, after all. He had a good feeling that if he went to that spot and waited something wonderful would happen. And something wonderful had. So he would keep trying, and keep believing as long as it took.

"Mmm..." she murmured. Her voice was still soft, but not the nearly impossible to hear that it had been before she had given in to Jayhk's charms. Of course, then she asked the questions that all male mates feared to hear. "Jayhk," she said, softly, tilting her head slightly as if the different angle would make things clearer, "Do I look fat?" Her appetite had spiked recently. Maybe she was just putting on weight... but... there was definitely a little bulge in her belly. Not very big... just barely noticeable. Unless she was imaging it.

"You, my dear one, look wonderful," he said softly, nuzzling her ear. "As you did yesterday, as you will forever." He kissed her neck gently, nibbling at her.
"Let's get something to eat, then we can try again," he said softly to her. He was just happy to be trying, to be with her, to be her mate.

She leaned against him, unable to shake her disappointment. She took his compliment as a confirmation that what she saw was merely wishful thinking. She had long since gotten used to his stubbornly rose colored impression of her, and while she loved him for seeing her in such a light, she knew better than to put much stock in it. As for trying again... she wasn't opposed to it, but it was starting to feel like work. What if they never had children?
"What if I CAN'T have children?" she asked, softly, sadly. "What if I'm barren?" This was her secret fear. After so many years of trying to start a family without success, she could only conclude that she was the problem.

"Nothing is impossible," he said, nuzzling her. "We just keep trying. Patience, all good things to those who wait and work my love. We can just keep trying."
He moved so she would have to look at him. "I stayed steady to what I knew to be true, and I met you. I stayed true to what I knew to be true, and got you to see I love you. I am staying true to what I know. We will have all we ever wanted, will ever want."
"I love you. And you now believe this, yes?"

"I do," Frost agreed, quietly, though she still had her doubts about that as well.
Glaze chose that moment to scurry out of the bushes. He heard what had been said and screwed up his face in disgust. Some days Jayhk was just too mushy. Shaking his head slightly, he offered, "You could ask the Angeni."

"We could ask... what Angeni?" Jayhk asked, still nuzzling his mate's neck softly. They would have baskets one day, he knew it. They just needed to have patience and wait. It was a tried and true method, and it had never failed him before. For anything.

"I heard of an angeni passing through these parts," Glaze explained, firmly. "Angeni are supposed to have special powers. I bet she could give a blessing or something to help things along."
Frost hesitated, considering that. The idea of seeking out a stranger terrified her. But what if this angeni could help them? She needed to know... "I... I want to see her," she said, softly.
