Name: Felix Devito
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 173 lbs
Age: 26
Birthday: November 16th
Home Town: Olivine City - Johto Region
Personality: Felix usually comes across as well-mannered, polite, and slightly cheerful to most people that he speaks with. He'll occasionally try to crack a joke or two with people he gets along with, although the quality is usually hit or miss, and he tends to provide encouragement - for lack of a better word - and advice if he notices that someone he appreciates the company of seems to be romantically interested in someone else. If he's annoyed at a situation, he can come across as a bit sarcastic or even snarky, although he rarely means anything by it. When he does, it's usually because the target of the comments is the one causing his annoyance. When he has some time to himself and isn't keeping an eye on his Pokemon, Felix enjoys looking over some of the textbooks he has, or any book, really. He does not get discouraged easily, but when he does, he falls into a sort of slump that can take anywhere from days to weeks to get out of. Of course, he can also fall into these slumps under other circumstances, sometimes triggered by a minor issue, other times seemingly at random.
During these slumps, Felix can easily be described in one word: Bitter. He is likely to seek solitude during these times, if only to avoid constantly snapping at the people around him. The only ones he'll allow to stay near him when he's in a slump are his Pokemon, and even then only a select few of them. People that insist on sticking around quickly find that the man fluctuates between lashing out at people, regret for his actions, and sheer hopelessness. How long any of the three states last is mostly random, although certain things are apt to trigger a shift in state. Even with this gloom hanging over him, though, he is able to let out soft chuckles if he hears a funny joke, force a small smile when paid a compliment, and enjoy whatever moments of relief he can scrounge up.
No matter what emotional state he's in, though, there is one thing about Felix he'd rather not showcase, and that is the cruel streak he has developed. He's not exactly sure how or why it has happened, but the man has noticed that he has gotten quite a bit nastier over the years when it comes to his methods of stealing from people. For the most part, he would like to only use as little force as necessary, or none at all if he could manage it. He has been resorting to more harmful methods with a higher frequency, though, and most times without reason. He has found that he's far more apt to turn to such methods when in his slumps than when he is feeling like himself, which gives him one more reason to keep people away from himself. Beyond this, he's about as apt to leave a target with a few broken limbs as he is to have them stuck to a tree under normal circumstances. He tends to have the moves for either option, too, as he's found himself using various status ailments fairly often lately, although he always keeps at least one heavy hitter on his team if he can.
History: At one time, Felix would have been simply another quirky kid starting on his Pokemon journey. His parents had heavily emphasized education over adventure, but he still felt that he should travel around while he was still young. So, after giving him a pack filled with travel supplies that were only supposed to last a few weeks and various textbooks for him to study while on his journey, his mother and father had brought him over to New Bark Town to talk with Professor Elm. The chat hadn't taken too long for the boy, as he already knew the basics of battling, capturing, and caring for Pokemon from watching the trainers that had come into Olivine, and he already knew just what type of Pokemon he wanted to start with.
After the short meeting, the boy, barely twelve at this point, had set out to travel around the region with his newly-acquired Cyndaquil. And travel they did, picking up several Pokemon along their way as they worked their way though Johto's league. Within less than a year the boy was back in his home city, but instead of stopping his nonsense as his parents hoped, he was simply there to see how the weather was doing and find out if it would be save to travel to Cianwood for his next badge. He had already managed to collect four different badges, and showed no sign of slowing down his journey. Well, except for the fact that a storm was rolling in, and he wasn't stupid enough to try and get to Cianwood on the back of one of his Pokemon when they'd likely end up getting caught in a storm.
Felix had first tried seeking shelter in his parent's home, but the boy was quickly shooed away by his parents. Apparently they hadn't been as thrilled as he originally thought about his choice to become a trainer. He had, however, caught that the storm was expected to last at least a few days, and so decided on an alternate course of action. So, the young trainer went back towards the east until he hit what was currently a roadblock for him, Mount Mortar. The boy's plan was to wait out the storm inside the cave, and use the time he was stuck on the mainland to train up his Pokemon so they would stand a better chance against Chuck.
The first day had gone about as well as the boy had thought it would, and he had managed to get some good training in during the day. The second day of the storm had gone about as well, although by this point the boy's Pokemon were starting to get rather tired. The rain was pouring down rather heavily, though, so the boy figured it'd be safest to stay in the cave for the time being. He sprayed some pretty strong repels around his campsite that night, knowing that he didn't want to mess with whatever wild Pokemon might want to pick a fight with his team in the evening. The boy planned on making his way back to Ecruteak in the morning so that he could get his team healed up, and then get back to Mount Mortar to keep training.
The evening of the second day, though, was when everything went wrong. The boy had been woken up by some noise going on around him and, while rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, reached for his flashlight to see what was going on. As soon as the flashlight was turned on, someone gave a command for their Pokemon to use Smokescreen and a cloud of something black engulfed the area that the beam of light should have illuminated, making the device rather useless to the boy. Someone else gave an order to use Vine Whip and, before the kid could even send out one of his Pokemon to defend himself, he ended up tied up by a couple of thin vines.
Obviously, that wasn't the end of the young boy, as Felix was able to convince his attackers to let him go. In exchange, though, he had to leave them his Pokemon, his badges, his money, the codes to access his account so they could pull the rest of his stuff out of storage, and nearly everything else he had. The only things the child was allowed to keep were his backpack, the textbooks inside, his flashlight, and the Pokedex in his pocket. Of course, he had to get out of his vine bindings himself, and the battery for the flashlight died quite a while before he managed that.
Felix eventually got free and quickly made his way towards Ecruteak to report the crime, as well as get things taken care of so that, if he got anything back, the thugs wouldn't be able to just turn around and take it out of his trainer account again. Even with the help of everyone in the city, though, the child could not get back what had been taken from him. The crooks were long gone, possibly even outside of the region, and his Pokemon were gone with them. The boy hadn't even had a chance to fight back, and he had lost everything he had worked so hard to obtain during his journey.
Depressed, the boy mostly hung around the city during the rest of the storm. During that time, some other crooks decided to try and cause a bit of mischief, and a few of them decided to get some assistance in this endeavor. Still a bit dazed from his experience, and not really being asked to anything particularly bad, Felix agreed to quite a few of the things he was asked to do. Mostly, it involved standing or sitting somewhere and keeping an eye out for something, or to go hand something to someone or other. The boy really didn't understand what was significant about what he was asked to do, just that the people asking him to do the stuff were willing to pay him for his trouble, and that even though he was able to stay at the Pokemon center for the time being, he was going to need some money if he expected to start traveling again.
Eventually, the rain cleared up enough for regular travel again, but now Felix faced another problem. While the path up to Ecruteak had been simple enough as a trainer, and the way back west to Olivine wasn't too bad now, he couldn't get back to many of the towns and cities he passed through now that he had no Pokemon. Unsure of where else he should go, the boy went back to his hometown, but made certain to avoid his parent's house. He didn't want to deal with whatever their reaction would be to him getting attacked just a few days after they shooed him off.
With little else he could do and needing a somewhat steady source of income, the boy did as he had done back in Ecruteak and took on odd tasks offered to him by the more shady people within the port city. Again, it was more of the same, at least for a while. Some of the people he worked with actually wanted him to take part in some of their crimes and gave him some more bulky clothes to wear during those times so he wouldn't be so easily recognized. He might have stood out, and there wasn't much they could do about the height, but at least people wouldn't be able to point at him on the street and peg him as the kid causing so much trouble.
So things went for the next several years, with the jobs getting more difficult and involving more action on his part as he got older. The tougher jobs gave him better payment more often than not, too, with a couple of people giving him Pokemon as incentive to keep his mouth shut. Not that he had reason to rat them out at the moment anyway. Sometimes he'd end up stowing away on ships to other regions, although that'd usually be more because someone else decided they wanted to test out a new territory and opted to drag Felix with them. Not that the teen minded too terribly much, as it gave him plenty of time to study. And all the while, the teen got more and more used to the idea of going against the usual rules. He was still bitter about what had happened to him, and over time had decided that if going by the book wasn't going to help him get ahead, then sinking to the level of thugs and crooks would.
Now an adult, Felix has decided that it is time that he upgraded from petty crimes to something big. One of his contacts has pinned down a buyer for some interesting research, but wouldn't trust anyone else to give it to him. Problem was, the contact couldn't get the stuff himself, and apparently most people were a bit too cowardly to try stealing from one of the six major professors. That was where Felix and his Pokemon were supposed to come in. If he succeeded, then it'd definitely attract some attention, and probably get the man back to more stable work. If he messed up, though... He'd attract attention, alright, but by getting his mug plastered on wanted posters throughout the region and having the police hunt him down. With the pressure on, the man knew there was no room for error as he made his way to his target.
