Skullkandy was just sort of there. But not really over there. More like there. And maybe but not really he was not really there or anywhere at all. But did that mean that nothing was actually everything and everything was actually nothing. And that the very existence he was standing in, which in reality was just his cave of infinite wonders, was all a lie? How could that be? If nothing truly did exist then wouldn’t that make neutrality nothing but a farse? Or…. No, neutrality couldn’t be a farce. If it was a farse then death would not exist. And if death did not exist than the infinite cosmos would surely collapse… right?

Skull shook his head and mumbled to himself incoherently. No no, too many questions and too many possible answers and non-answers. No, there had to be something, anything that could prove the neutrality hypothesis was real or not. Real or not real? Skull clicked his teeth together. No no, no games. Not today. Today was going to be his ability to find someone to answer this question for him! No if ands or buts about it!

He kicked some dirt onto his flame where he kept a basin of boiling water going. What he was making exactly wasn’t known, nor did he really care. The only thing he cared about was getting out of this cave and finding his new intellectual partner! The dirt would keep his flame of life going while he was gone. Yes, yes. Keep his cave from burning down. So, when he was satisfied with his flame’s largeness, or lack thereof, he set out on his quest.

Find the answer to his neutrality hypothesis had begun! And to any other soquili coming near him, he probably looked high as a kite... oh well. It helped him think, come up with new ideas.

Freyja stood with her wings aloft in meditation. She was imagining herself as one with the earth and air. She was connected to it not separate. Her spirit hoovered, lingered on the edge of a different type of consciousness. She could feel the pull of nature, the beauty in the design of it. Her whole life force ebbed with oceans and the moons. She felt as though she was apart of a different life for a moment only.

Her eyes flickered below her eyelids and then opened. She felt something strange in the atmosphere around her, a disturbance. She looked about and heard someone coming. She could feel the ground radiating the impact of his hooves and when he came into sight he could almost hear the wheels of his mind turning.

She did not speak but inclined her head to him in greeting.

The mumbling continued deep within his mind, never wavering, only getting stronger and stronger the further from his cave he became. His mind became clearer, his ideas became less mutated, more concise, precise actually. However he wasn’t exactly sure why. Not that he was complaining. An answer meant he could go onto other hypothesis’, other reasons to find out the truth of the infinite cosmos.

But first, he had to find out the answer to his neutrality. It was he desire, his eternal wish, to know the truth of what neutrality was. What it meant. What it entailed. Did it exist. Did it not exist. No, no. His thoughts were jumbling again. Not good, not good. He had to find his answer! Today perhaps? And if not today, at least an answer to come to him soon? Please? That’d be nice. It’d put his mind at ease.

At least, at ease for a little while.

In his mumblings he hadn’t intended on actually coming upon anyone so fast. Most stayed clear of his area of living. The wind said it was because he was now considered crazy? No, it couldn’t be crazy. He wasn’t crazy. He was just… different. He wanted answers to the world. There was nothing wrong with that, right?

So, back to the actual present, he hadn’t intended on almost running into someone. Normally he was of clear mind and clear of body. But today, not so much. He’d have to cut back on his potions..

“Sorry, sorry,” he apologized, still halfway in his cloudy haze, “I have been lost in my thoughts today. I shall leave you be.”

Freyja watched the stallion mumble to himself as though lost to the world. It wa as though his mind was free of his body. His eyes were darting back and forth making him seem half mad. But was he mad?

She knew how often intelligence and paranoia fought inside one's mind. She knew how a mind so keen to figure out the universe could also be eaten up by some unexplained darkness in them. Was there darkness in him like that? It seemed so.

"You're not bothering me. Do you want to talk?" Sometimes kindness was all you needed and sometimes it wasn't. But perhaps that was all this stallion did.

Does he want to talk? What does SkullKandy want? What doesn’t he want? But is wanting the same thing as needing? And if needing was the same thing then wanting would be perfectly fine to assume that it’s okay to want and stay neutral. Right? Maybe? No? Yes? It was all so confusing and convoluted. Would he be going against the very principles that he was starting to hold so dear in order to want something?

SkullKandy gave pause for a moment, his brain ticking a mile a minute, or micro-minute, or whatever the universe deemed as the right amount of time to look and make a decision on whether or not to respond. But alas, if he didn’t respond that would go against the societal norm of being polite. So, he could only assume and come to the conclusion that in order to continue to be in the neutral category he had to respond to the mare. And who knows, maybe she could and would offer him insight. She had technically already offered.

“Talking… thinking… they’re all the same thing. To think is to talk in one’s head. To talk is to think about ones words and eventual actions…” he rambled to her, “would it not be safe to assume then that they are two parts of the same whole? And if those same two things within the same hole were truth and the universe deemed it to be consistent with neutrality and neither being alive nor dead, would that be the basis of the principle of existence?”

Existance… what does it mean to exist? He is breathing, his heart is beating, and he is there. But what was there? What was breathing and having a beating heart if it wasn’t neutral in its existence. Was him having these things causing another to have less than him? Was THAT neutrality too? Or was he taking something he shouldn’t have? So many questions and so little answers…

It bothered him greatly.

But would she understand his theory? Would she understand that it is integral that he get these answers before he lost is mind? But it seemed that he may have already lost his mind a long time ago. Bitey didn’t think so. But then again Bitey was one of the most innocent individuals he had ever met. A small smile graced passed his lips when he thought about her. But that was quickly overridden by the fear that by allowing himself to get to close to her that he would forgo his principle of neutrality. And that could not stand. Not one bit. Malach had brought to his attention too much to fail. He would not fail at this.

Oh, wait. She was talking back to him. He should listen to what she was saying…

"I don't think anyone can be completely neutral, no matter how hard they try." She tilted her head slightly while she settled her wings. "Talking and thinking are complimentary when done right. That's where honesty comes from. They complete the circle."

Freyja hesitated unsure of her next words in his fragile state. She didn't want to push him over the edge. He was so delicate, so frail. But she sensed he would want honesty. "To be alive is to exist. To be dead is not to exist, some would say. But that's not quite true. Nothing can ever be completely destroyed, only transformed into a different kind of energy or form. No one can live in neutrality. Each touch, each breath causes a reaction in the soquili, in the world. Butterfly wings and hurricanes," she said softly. "You cannot hope to live a life alone and neutral, because neutrality does not exist. Neutrality is...a lie, an illusion. We are never truly alone. Never truly separate. Does that help?" She hoped she had not hurt him, had not confused him too much.

Her words. They were… they were interesting…. Interesting? Was that even the right word to call it? But if it wasn’t interesting then what could it be? What else could he call it? If anything?

Lies? No. That wasn’t right. Nobody lied in a neutral world. In a neutral world it was all about perspective. Her perspective was just different than his own. But that didn’t mean it was any less valid, any less true. But if that was the case, then her case could be considered correct and his wrong. That neutrality didn’t exist at all. But truthfully he couldn’t fathom the idea that neutrality was non-existant. Malach was a prime example of this. She couldn’t be wrong. She was the harbinger of death incarnate. It wouldn’t make any sense for her to lie. And in truth, she never had. Never will. It wasn’t in her nature. She just simply existed in her own set of rules and desires. He admired her for that.

But once again, it brought the mare’s argument and words to the forefront again. Brining more and more value to her beliefs. Which brought SkullKandy to realize that there was a complete and utter truth in logic that he could not deny. For to deny it would be to biased. And to be biased was directly opposite of neutrality. So he had to acknowledge that the idea of a complete circle was true. It only made sense. Here he was in his own mind going around in circle after circle after circle. Never coming to a full decision or realization.

Yet, that meant the realization in a circular decision was the truth. And in that case, neutrality was merely a state of being. A conscious choice. It wasn’t a part of life or death or the path between. But Skull wanted to walk the path between. It seemed right… right? Was he crazy? His life wasn’t something determined by forces outside of himself…. But what if it was?

The more and more he thought about it Skull realized that this mare and brought something to him that he hadn’t intended. It was a type of freedom he felt that only few could achieve. But what was that freedom? The freedom to choose? The freedom to exist? But yet his existence wasn’t decided upon him or his family. It was decided upon the Gods. But the Gods couldn’t be considered conscious…It didn’t make… wait, yes it did.

The mare said something to him that struck him, the ability to be in a different stage of existence. The Gods could be considered in a different state of existence. But that didn’t mean they weren’t real. And what if he was a God in his own right? The god of his own life?

“There are things that you tell me that bother me,” he answered, “however I cannot deny that you do speak the truth in many ways. And it would be against my nature to deny them and to tell you that they are false. It wouldn’t many any sense to destroy your beliefs as they are in-destroyable. At least, that is what your logic dictates.”

And with that the fog within his mind was clear.

Freyja watched the stallion go through the argument, it was like watching someone work on a puzzle at high speed. His eyes roved back and forth, perhaps his lips might have mumbled. She could almost see the long paths of his thoughts stretching out before her. Here and there he fumbled, argued with himself or counter-argued.

Each part of her statement was studied, then verified or discarded. Her own conclusions gave rise to his own hypotheses. When the new thoughts came to mind, she watched him as he tested them to his own conclusions. It was a beauty to watch him process it, to dissect everything down to the bones. He studied it as though her words were tangible, as though they were flesh that he could prod and diagnose.

Something clicked then, his breathing seemed easier--less frantic. He spoke slowly with a quiet precision.

She waited a moment to say a word. He offered no argument against her. He didn't attempt to prove her wrong. "That's right," she said with a smile. "Nothing is ever truly destroyed. Not even logic."
