The day was just on the side of warm; the first warm day after a particularly biting winter. The park was full with several people trying to take advantage of the weather, not sure how long it would last. The air was filled with the sound of laughter from the children playing and the songs of birds in trees.
Casey sat on the bench, his legs criss-crossed on the seat with him and his nose in a book. Every time footsteps approached he would lift his eyes just a smidge to see who was heading his way. Each time it was not who he was hoping to see he would turn his gaze back down with a disappointed sigh.
Eventually he grabbed his phone from his pocket to check the time. He still had at least five more minutes to wait. "This is what I get for being so eager," Casey muttered. He unlocked his phone and dived into his messages to double check he had the right day and time.
He smiled to himself as he heard Faelnirv's voice come soothingly from his phone as he played the voicemail his friend had left him the other day. Since Casey had been in the shower he hadn't had a chance to pick it up, but soon after he had called the faerie lord back to let him know he was available today, Saturday, at 2.
Casey quickly calmed his expression to less "love sick" and put his phone away. He could wait patiently for five minutes... Totally.
He could already feel the itch to check the time once again.

"Soooo... What's he like, again?"
Faelnirv resisted the urge to sigh, settling with giving his daughter an exasperated look. She just beamed him and he felt his annoyance fade slightly. "Casey is a very dear friend." he said, eyes scanning their surrounding idly as they made their way through the park. They had entered the park from the east, though Faelnirv was aware that Casey's living quarters proximity to the western entrance would place him there. "I have known him for a good sum of years. He is... refreshingly honest with himself."
Lada huffed a sigh and the High Lord looked at her with a quirked brow. She gave him a disbelieving look. "'A very dear friend', huh? Last I checked, you didn't change outfits five times and ask me if you looked presentable for 'very dear friends'." she said, leveling him with a knowing smirk. Faelnirv did not deign to offer any explanation, sniffing primly and studying a couple of Lycan children kicking a ball around n a nearby field.
"Believe what you will." he intoned dryly, purposefully ignoring Lada's self-congratulatory fist bump to the air. Instead, he preferred to catch sight of the young human sitting cross-legged on a bench, nose in a book. He was pleased to note that cover of said book appeared to be the novel that the High Lord had once recommended to his friend.
Noting her father's slightly more eager pace, Lada too found the human and couldn't stop herself from making a surprised, appreciative noise. "Wow, he's cute!" she muttered, giving her father a quick thumbs up and cheeky grin when he glanced her way.
That Lada had popped in for a visit on her father had been surprisingly fortuitous. At least, that's what he'd thought. Though he'd never truly told Casey (or any of their social circle) of his past, he'd never told them he didn't have a son and daughter with a lovely Faerie named Aphrodite, either. To be fair, Cernnuous and Lada had been a surprise to the both of them - a Fae couple that were separated by social rank decided to release their physical forms and try to be together in their next life, resulting in to souls flitting about the world instead of returning to the Soul Caverns. The souls had bound themselves to Faelnirv and Aphrodite, who were merely taking a walk together, and thus the two were born.
"You look well today, dear Casey." he said as the two of them drew near the sitting young man, dipping his head slightly and offering him a small smile.

Casey startled at the sound of Faelnirv's voice. Surprisingly, the young man had managed to get distracted by his book and had, for a brief moment, forgot why he had been so eager before. Now that his friend was before him, his presence both calmed and excited Casey.
"Faelnirv," Casey cried, his smile an absolute beam of happiness. "Thanks. Same to you. The weather is--" It was then that he noticed the female standing beside the High Lord. "Oh, hello," he said. While Casey had seen her before he had expected her to keep walking. The fact that she stayed where she was made the man realize he should take note of her.
Thanks to being in the presence of fae quite often, Casey knew not to even guess at her age. He did have a sneaky suspicion, though, that she was younger than Faelnirv. It was hard not to see her as beautiful, even more so than most faeries were. She had long hair that seemed to flow effortlessly and a speckling of freckles were adorable on her. Casey wondered if she was holding herself back as she seemed to be eagerly awaiting something.
Though his smile had briefly faltered while he observed the extra member to their party, it came back easily to his face as he continued to address the lady. "I don't think we've met before. My name's Casey Wyman. I'm a friend of Faelnirv's."

Faelnirv's small smile widened at his friend's apparently enthusiasm. He hadn't been lying when he said that Casey was honest with himself - some people would try to restrain their emotions to the point they couldn't even identify what it was that they were feeling at any given moment. Casey, however, had always had strong emotions that flowed freely. This, of course, made him a good companion to the High Lord whose vision clarity depended on those around him's emotions.
Lada brightened even further when the human made note of her and introduced himself. "Ah, I don't believe we have met! I'm certain I'd remember you, Mr. Casey!" she said, smiling warmly at him. "Ada's told me a lot about you, though! Like, how dependable you are, and how patient you've been with teaching him about our modern world!" she paused, giggling and whispering to him conspiratorially "He'd be an old fuddy-duddy without you, I'm sure! Well, more than he already is, anyway!" the Faerie slyly looked over at her father, who simply raised a brow at her.
"My 'fuddy-duddy'ness aside, shouldn't introduce yourself before you continue your rambling?" the High Lord intoned dryly, looking vague amused as Lada blanched and looked at him apologetically. He merely waved a hand at her and she smiled.
"Oh, right, sorry!" she said, turning back to face Casey. "I'm Lada Zahrah Strider! Nana and Cernnie would've loved to meet you, too, I'm sure!" Lada offered the human a sweet smile, practically oozing contented happiness.
Faelnirv made a noise of agreement. "Seeing Aphrodite and Cernnuous would be pleasant, I'm sure. But both of them are busy at the moment, so they could not come." he said, tilting his head when Lada pouted at him. "At any rate - Casey, I'm sure you've managed to figure out by now that Lada was the person whom I wished for you to meet."

Casey could practically feel himself being bulled over by the sudden onslaught of words from the female fae. He smiled, though, as he was never one to dampen someone's excitement. There was no doubt that eventually Casey would even be swept into her enthusiasm.
He didn't even initially question the use of one of her words as he was still not fully familiar with all the fae terms. From context Casey could guess that 'Ada' somehow referred to Faelnirv. Though it's familiar and affectionate use caused Casey's heart to squeeze as he wondered about the female's connection with Faelnirv. Especially when she commented on the High Lord's person without so much as batting an eye. Casey let out a scoff of a laugh, unable to join in on her teasing of the lordly fae.
Casey was quick to wave off the lady's apologies when Faelnirv turned the teasing on her. "It's fine," Casey said. Her name caused him to still. Strider? That was Faelnirv's last name. So they were related? Casey couldn't remember if Faelnirv had ever mentioned any of his family before.
The human was left looking between Faelnirv and Lady Lada while the two discussed other fae. Casey's brow was a bit furrowed in confusion while he discerned familial features between them. He slowly smiled to himself as he noted similar noses and a smile on Lada's face that matched the one Faelnirv only occasionally showed.
"I can see it," Casey said aloud. He blanched himself, realizing he had spoken before laughing at himself. "Sorry, I mean, nice to meet you Lady Lada." Casey finally stood and bowed slightly to the lady fae.

Lada was practically vibrating with energy. Faelnirv was vaguely amused by this, but was more-so enamored with how well Casey was taking this first meeting. He hadn’t thought that it would come too much of a shock - but now, in hindsight, he realized that dear Casey could've felt as thought he had purposefully kept the existence of his daughter from him. Which wasn't true in the slightest. But it could've seen like it to a mortal human with only two decades under his belt.
Lada must've sensed her father's quietly surlifying mood as she quickly threaded her arms between the two men and set them up for a leisurely stroll through the park. "So tell me, Mister Casey, what do you like to do for fun? I saw you reading earlier - what sort of books do you like? I personally enjoy books that almost read themselves. Like, I don't care if the plot is cliché and the guy gets the girl - give me something that it easy and lovely and makes you want to curl up in bed or by the fireplace and read it during a rainy day." she paused when she realized she was rambling and not really giving him an opportunity to reply, offering him a sheepish smile.
The High Lord himself made a small noise of agreement to his daughter's book preference, eyeing the human over the top of her shining, golden head. Honestly, she was much too tall. It was his fault, of course. Aphrodite, lovely thing that she was, was fairly short - but both of their children had taken his height. Last they had seen one another. Cernnuous had almost reached his chin. "Dear Casey, I recall that there was once a chilled treat cart on the southern entrance of this park. Is it still there?" he asked in a pause between the other two's chatting.iMoony (Sorry this is sort of choppy - 3 papers this week doesn't lean itself to allowing me to fall into my normal style. -w-;; )

It took Casey a bit by surprise when Lada laced her arms into his and Faelnirv's. She really was very familiar with the High Lord and, despite her very pleasant personality, Casey couldn't help but continue to feel jealous. He was starting to suspect the two were somehow related by blood, so while Casey had no need to be jealous of her, it was the past that she represented. No need to worry about that, Casey admonish himself. Get to know her and find out more about all this before you go souring your mood.
Thankfully Casey had been paying attention enough that he could pick up right where Lada had left him. "I like those ones as well. I also love the occasional adventure where it's more about the character finding their way to their goal and discovering something about themselves along the way. I love... happy endings, basically." He smiled up at Lada. It was an interesting situation to look so high for both of his companions, but Casey had never really been tall. He wondered if others would mistake them as a beautiful couple walking their awkward child through the park. He almost laughed at the odd spectacle they might make at first glance.
Hearing Faelnirv's question, Casey leaned out in front of Lada to see the his face better. "It normally isn't during the winter, but seeing as the weather is really lovely today, I would suspect the cart is out and the guy is hoping to get as many of these kids as customers as possible." Casey beamed, already excited by the idea of an iced treat. Here's hoping his assessment would be right.ChibiWrites Sorry this took soooo long! Lada hummed happily at Casey's answer, her smile bright and warm. She shot her father an approving look, one that he acknowledged with a small smile of his own. The trio had started on their trek and a comfortable silence descended. "Soooo," she drawled, looking curiously at the human to her left, "If it's not too much trouble, how did you and my Ada meet, Mr. Casey?"
Faelnirv huffed at that, shooting daughter an exasperated glance. "I believe I've told you that story a thousand times now, Lada." he said, to which the other fae simply stuck her tongue out at him.
"Yes, but Mr. Casey might remember things differently!" she replied, grinning mischievously, "Something silly you may have done!" Her father scoffed.
"Are you attempting to ferret out memories of my foolishness, Yeldë?" he said, no bite in his words but for a soft affection.
Lada tipped her head back and laughed, a bright sound that split the air and often warmed the hearts of those that heard it. "Always, Ada. Always." she chirped, tiptoeing between steps to press a chaste peck on his cheek before looking back at Casey expectingly.
