Moon shadows danced upon the land as the bright orb rose higher in the star filled sky. Constellations known and known told their stories to those who took the time to look and listen. But it was not one of those nights for the four winged filly, she had a dream and had to figure out how to make it a reality. Her mother and sister had little spirits who talked to them and were their constant companions, Ker wished for that type of relationship. What would it take to get a Spirit? Mother did not know or if she did, she was not willing to tell the young foal. Ker was stubborn; she would get the answer one way or another. Perhaps there was someone walking the night that knew the beginning of the path she sought.
Her feathered ears listed intently to the sounds of the night. Someone walked beneath the canopy of trees. Her wings fluttered in excitement, whoever it was might not have the answer to her question, but it would still be interesting to meet a soquili who was not related.

L'inglesou walked the night, his mind lost in thought to the loa. He had been to a ceremony this night, away from Nessie. He had been there as a soul passed over. Death walked in the night, he could feel it's nearness as he walked home. It did not scare him though. He had prayed and made offerings, his life would be what it was and no more. His faith was simple.
He heard the flutter of wings like paper and turned to see a small filly with many wings standing there. She was luminous in the dark, shades of pinks and blues. She had an unearthly blue glow to her and large blue eyes that shined up.
"What brings you out in the dark 'chile?" The soft rattle of his beads stopped as he did.

Was he a Day Walker or a Night Walker? He was curious looking, he had a long tail that ended in a fin and he had more fins on his front two legs. Was he a water creature? She had never seen one before, she had never been near a large body of water either, so that probably explained the first. Ker Enyo cocked her head to the side and studied him, “I live in the dark, why are you in the dark? Is Night your Day or is day your Day and night your Night? Night is my Day, I wake up with Dusk and go to bed at Dawn.” Ker had not intended to ask that many questions, but if it will allow her to ask him what she really wished to know, then she will open up to this stranger.

L'inglesou laughed softly at her questions. "I am what I want to be and no more. Sometimes I rise with the dusk and som'time the morn. I do what whateva' I need to. But you, you walk the night little dark one." He tilted his head at her to take in her strange appearance. She was alive like a spirit in the night, her eyes like candles with blue flames. He could sense and see the darkness in this girl.
"I come from da graveyard a few miles away, where an old acquaintance was laid to rest this night. I am journeying home. But why are you out in this dark night wandering during the midnight hour where the ghouls might be?" He smiled broader at that. "Are you looking for da ghouls?"

He was quite the interesting stallion and had such a strange accent. She was not sure how to respond to his words about being who he was and that was all he was going to be, she had not asked that question but she guessed that it made sense that it was in answer to her question about either he was a Daywalker or a Nightwalker. He never really did answer the question; instead it seemed that he answered in riddles. She liked him, he was entertaining.
Ker’s feathered ears perked at his mention of graveyards and ghouls, “Yes I am, I am looking for a spirit,” the rest of his words finally made sense, and she bowed her head, “I am sorry for your loss.” Was that the right phrase for a situation like this? She really wanted to get away from the pleasantries and asking about how to get a ghost companion.

"You do not lose da dead dear one. They linger on in memories, in moments, in an object or a place foreva." He closed his eyes for a moment. "What spirit do you look for 'chile? Don't you know there is danger in looking for the dead? They do not like to be disturbed."
The winds wafted around him and he wondered if his friend was trying to make his opinion known. He had always been an opinionated one. "Why do you want to talk to the spirits? And are you prepared to pay the toll? There's always a toll for da crossing little night walker."

“You don’t lose the ones you love… they stay with you in memories. Is that why some heroes are put up in the stars so everyone can remember them, so no matter how many nights pass, they are still remembered?” It was an interesting thought and it almost distracted her away from her goal, quickly she shook her head to rid the thoughts of memories and stars, “Yes, I want a spirit companion like my mother and sister have. They are always with them and talk to them, I can’t understand what they are saying and it makes me wish to have one as well.” Again she did not listen to his words and had to backtrack when the meaning came through, “Danger? What danger? Aren’t spirits nice? It doesn’t matter, I want a spirit like mommy and Kat.” She was beginning to pout, it was quite ridiculous and she knew better but she really wanted to be like Mommy and Kat. “What is the price?”

L'ingleous listened to her question about stars and he looked up into the heavens. "I have not met a star, but it could be so." She asked for a spirit to be her familiar. "To trap a spirit and bind it to you. It is not done. The spirits can guide us, but they cannot stay. To bind them to you permanently would be a great evil. It would require too much of your soul little dark one. You can commune wid dem, but you cannot hold them forever. It is too dangerous. A Hougnan or Bokor or Mambo can summon a Loa to commune wid. But they cannot stay, they will grant us small services. The Ghede though, they always try to find a way to stay longer. To let one walk the earth too long...No. You cannot risk it 'chile. I do not have that power, nor would I attempt it. You could become the ghost." But he knew she would not let it go. There was a stubborness about her, a dark need that pulled her on this course. No, no.
"If you tread dis path, you cannot come back. Is it worth that much to you?"
