Convallaria might be heading south from her homeland, but finally, finally! she was headed downward with an end in sight. It had been months of finding her way through passes and sometimes over the sides of mountains, making her way carefully, oh so carefully, through the shaky, spiky, and unsteady ground. But, at long last, it wasn't more shaky, spiky, or unsteady ground that she saw before her - it was green.

She had never seen anything like it in her life.

The expanse of green was huge, vivid; even if the snow had melted enough in the North to afford such a sight, it certainly wouldn't have been so enormous and so completely free of snow and ice. And to eyes sore and sick of white snow, grey stone, black rock, and rivers frigid as the glaciers they ran from, green was a lovely sight to behold indeed.

Sighing, Val turned her eyes back to her feet again. As she descended, she noticed that plant life was growing more dense than she had seen it since she had been in the last low pass. There were plants she had never seen before and some that she recognized, but she had never bothered to learn their names; she had her horn to heal those worthy of her ministrations. It was her pride, an heirloom of the exotic and beautiful blood that ran in her family, brought from the South with her mother.

Her mother had been killed in the rebellion that Lynnea had started, and Convallaria was out for the blood that the ridiculously flashy mare had shed. She claimed to be liberating the mares from being possessions, from being bound by duty instead of love, from being defined by what they were told to be, and not who they were. Val, though, knew who she was, and so had her mother. They had been admired, respected. And now they had nothing left to them but the cold rock of a cairn and the cold rock of a mountain.

Val was going to find Lynnea. She was going to find her, tow her home by her stupid pink hair, and make her answer for the crimes she had committed. But first, she had to get out of these damned mountains.

Lumen Anor had left a few days ago on his journey to find some yarrow for his father. He had seen it many times but his father never failed to tell him exactly what it looked like--as though he could have forgotten. Milfoil. It could run tall, feathery almost like a fern with white fluffy stuff at the top. You could almost smell it before you saw it.

Yarrow was something that they did not need as often as other herbs--but when it was needed, they could go through large quantities fast. It helped to treat open wounds, to make an almost balm to close them and ease the sting.

It always took three days journey to reach the valley where it grew plentiful, then a day of picking and then three more home. A lot of walking for something so small, but yeah substantial.

He hadn't been paying attention to anything but his search for milfoil when he saw a mare standing nearby with windblown hair. "Pardon me," he said a bit shocked.

Convallaria was standing in the green grass of the valley, eyes closed and breathing in the sweet scent of it, when she heard the stallion's voice. Her eyes snapped open, and she spotted him standing downwind, where she had not heard his approach.

Quickly, her eyes flicked over his body. His snappy coloring - that flaming orange hair - identified him as one of her own, as did the rest of his coloring. The only thing he was missing were antlers, the pride of the Cerynei of the North, and the most important part of being a stallion.

He was a stallion, and he was missing antlers. Not only that, but he had some little useless-looking winglets peeking up from the grass around his back legs. "Is this how they breed Cerynei in the South?" she said critically, tilting her head critically. "Where are your antlers? Do you shed them, like common deer? Or does your mate protect you?" Whether she was simply frustrated from her long journey, unable to comprehend the differences between her breed and him, or judging him harshly, Val did not care to differentiate any of the three from each other. If this stallion did not have antlers, he would be useless as either a protector or a mate, and those were the only use she had for males in the South. She would return home before long, she was certain. Unless... Val gave him a once-over once more, noting his coloration. That green is the same as her chest and belly markings, his hair bright enough that it could be hers.

Striding up to him, Val pointed her horn savagely at her neck, clearly a threat. "Name your mother and her appearance," she growled.

Lumen Anor blushed rosily, "My affairs nor my horns or lack thereof are your bussiness. You seem a stranger to this land, it is not polite to speak like that to someone you know much less someone you don't know." He eyed her warily as she lowered her horn threateningly at her.

"My mother is an angeni, though I have no idea why you should care when you see me so...disdainfully?" He raised an orange eyebrow. His manners came into effect again though he wanted badly to turn around and ignore her. "You barely know me, I don't think any stallions could stand up to so harsh a standard on first sight." He ducked his head in a nod and turned back to his gathering.

Val shook her head, not caring or internalizing any of the words that he spoke that did not matter to her. His mother is an angeni? She didn't even know what an angeni was, but unless Lynnea had begun calling herself that - something she highly doubted, considering that the mare refused to be anything other than what she was - Val doubted that it had anything to do with the North. "Courtesy is something I forgot with the destruction of my homeland," spat Convallaria, following the male. Why was he without horns? What purpose did the wings serve? Surely he could not fly away on them. "Are you a crossbreed?" she asked, intrusive. She was one, herself, although she didn't see what use his parents' combination had provided him.

The mare kept at him in an imposing manner that caused him to back up again. "You're very rude. I don't like your questions." He was a small built stallion and he really didn't know how to fight, but he was tired of being bossed around in this abrasive manner. "Why don't you go find someone else to talk with that suits you more? I'm obviously not good company for you." Likely no one was really, but anything that would make her go away would be great.

Thought if it really came down to it, he supposed he could poison in her in self-defense. A terrible thought, he scolded himself. He was to heal not to harm. He sighed and tried to keep his attention on the mare in case she charged or somethign.

for the first time in her tirade, Val paused. She was rude, wasn't she? If she wanted to be kind of comfortable here while she looked for the stupid mare who had ruined everything, wouldn't she have to make friends of some kind? She didn't have a guardian here, after all. If she upset someone, and they wanted to fight, no one would step in for her. And healing herself was an exhausting process. "sorry," she said. "I've not meet anyone else, and I didn't expect this place to be so different in customs and appearances..."

Her next words flabberghasted Lumen, he felt his mouth drop open for a moment. This mare really knew how to turn on her hooves. She was wiley, adapting to get what she wanted. "New to the area?" He didn't say anything more inappropriate, like new to manners...though he could have. "What are you looking for? Are you a traveling healer?" It was possible that she was looking for his father...though not likely. He closed his bag of herbs and studied her for a moment. "It's okay. I'm sorry I was harsh to you. Have you eaten recently? Have you come far?" He pulled the bag back up over his neck and waited to see if she would answer. If she would still be polite.

Nodding at his question, Val looked back up at the mountains she had just come down from. The only evidence that there was a whole range behind the first peak was the widening sides of the foothills behind it. Then she shook her head. "I am no healer." She looked him up and down for a moment, a cursory glance. "Not to strangers, anyway. My father disdained poor folk, as well, and he is the one who tells me where to point my horn." It makes no matter that they killed him. Her father had been lost in the mares' rebellion, along with so many others. Lynnea had even killed her own father, and that had started it all. Her mouth set, expression grim. "I came over the mountains, all the way from the northern tundra. I've eaten mostly mountain scrub recently." After a moment, she looked down at the bright green, lush grass brushing around her knees. "Do you think this would cause a belly ache after so far a journey?" she murmured, halfway between asking him and herself - even if her dismay at his strange traits remained, she didn't want to show it. He had turned just as quickly as she had back to some kind of civility, and that was promising. Still, asking his advice might be a bit too far.

Something she said or the way she said it made an odd feeling creep down his neck. He couldn't place the feeling or what caused it, but something had. He had long been taught to pay attention to instinct. "That's a long ways," Lumen Anor replies easily while looking at the far mountains. He'd often yearned to travel far away and see what was out there. But after the lose of his sibling, none of them had dared to travel far. He had seen the haunted look in his father's eyes when he gazed off into nothing. As a foal, he had not understood but as an adult, he could not fathom the pain. He had lost a brother or sister he'd never known, but for his father it had been real.

"I don't really know much about that. My father is the healer, not me." He disliked the way she spoke of lessers. His father had often not accepted payment for his services. It was a gift to use, not a trait to prosper from. "You could just try it? I really don't know, sorry. Are you looking for something or someone in particular?"

Val rolled a shoulder, shrugging off his limited knowledge. Where she had come from, the grass had never been so thick, so green - it looked sweeter than anything she had ever imagined. Leaning down, she tore up a mouthful and chewed.

At his next question, a growl rose in her throat, and Val leveled icy eyes at the male. The sugary grass became tasteless in her mouth. She swallowed. "I came here only to find someone, and then I will be leaving again. The North requires me." So justice can be served and our lives rebuilt. "The mare I'm looking for would probably be rather distinctive here. She has a coat like a field of clover, hair that's a mix of emerald and fuchsia." Half the things she used to describe Lynnea she'd never seen - they were the words that had been used to describe the unfortunately-colored mare since she'd emerged from her basket, though. "She has small antlers and her name is Lynnea, though she may call herself something else here." After a moment, she nodded toward the male. "She is why I approached you so rudely. I thought she might have been your mother. You look like her in many ways."

Lumen saw her reaction and it made him take a step back. "What has this mare done to you to cause you to hate her so much?" There was no mistaking the hate in her eyes, the pure anger there was undiluted.

"And so you attacked me verbally on the off-chance she was my mother?" He narrowed his eyes slightly at her. "My mother is Nokomis, an Angeni of Nature. And my hair is in no way fuschia, it's orange cream at the most." He paused tilting his head at her, "And what do you plan to do with her if you find her?"
