"My mother was a healer who specialized in muscle deficiency - paralysis, damaged nerve tissue, torn ligaments - she could work miracles.
But often people didn't come to her for miracles. She was at least as famous for being able to knead out as much stress with her knuckles as with her magic.
Of course, if she's a needle, I'm a hammer, but over the years even I learn some things."

- Janatheil

User Image
Character Name: Janatheil Orehian (Jah - nah - thee - uhl | Ore - ee - an)
      Race: Orderite
      Gender: Male ♂
      Class: Barbarian
      Appearance:
          Physical
              - Janatheil is of average height - 5'11" or so - with a sturdy build. As a boy, he's wiry (thanks to hyperactivity) and almost always bruised or scraped in one way or another. He grows into his body with age, though, and his preferred combat and lifestyle gives rise to ample muscle and a durable frame.

He has 'sunshine yellow' blonde hair, lavender skin with highlights of pink and turquoise, and a smattering of multi-colored freckles ranging from purple and pink to turquoise and deeper blues. His eyes are similarly multi-hued, like an orderite version of 'hazel' eyes with flecks of pink, yellow-orange, and (again) turquoise.

As an apprentice, his hair is neat and straight, either loose about his shoulders or styled simply in the way of the orderite upper class. As he grows into his teen years, he begins to manifest his rebellious 'wild' streak in more physical ways, bucking away from what is more expected of one of his social position and letting his hair develop into dreads.

          Dress
              - As a child, Janatheil is dressed in accordance with his family's standards in fine clothes suitable for a decently wealthy bloodline. A mix of angelic noble and steampunk themes would work well for his apprentice stage [will add inspiration examples later].

In his later stages, Janatheil carries his bonded weapon with him at virtually all times as well as a buckler/shield. Specific outfit examples and ideas will be provided to the given artist at the appropriate time, should he come into being.

      Personality:
          Simple
            • brash, forward, adventurous
            • stubborn, arrogant/prideful, vain (in his own way)
            • upbeat, optimistic, determined
            • loyal, honest (blunt), confident
            • thrill-seeking, impatient, easily distracted
            • rebellious, confrontational, loud
            • extroverted, attention seeking, bold
            • verbose, impulsive, crude
            • passionate, reckless, spirited/energetic
            • "colorful" ← arguably a one-word summation of his entire being, both physically and mentally

          Detailed
Janatheil is a mixed bag of marbles. He relishes in company and attention, but tends to keep people at a distance emotionally, actively seeking out relationships but avoiding getting to attached to them. His impatient and impulsive nature can make him come off as flighty, rude, reckless, or even unreliable, but he considers this evidence only of his 'free spirit' and tends to disregard criticism, opting instead to do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants, regardless of how it is viewed by others.

He adores adventure, particularly when (high) risk is involved, talks incessantly and, as a result, has a tendency to dominate conversations. He rarely ever masks his meaning and says things forthrightly. While positive, in the sense that he is honest, this often carries over into being tactlessly blunt, rude, or even openly hurtful and harmful. He cares little, and is of the general opinion that if what he says hurts your 'feelings' you need either grow a thicker skin or depart from his company. The truth isn't your enemy, and if you can't handle it, you have some things to rethink.

Despite his generally upbeat attitude, however, and his tendency to brush off others' potentially negative opinions of him, he can be highly combative and even go out of his way to rile people up. This, usually, takes one of two forms. The first and most common is 'playful' in his mind; he finds it highly entertaining to try to get under other people's skin, testing the limits of their patience and temperament, and enjoys evoking strong emotional reactions of all sorts. The second is when he is genuinely upset. Jana has a fierce temper which, once triggered, tends to dominate his persona entirely until he comes back down from it, and sometimes - when the lapse is especially severe - these 'fits' of anger can leave him with no memory of his behavior during it. This, though, only starts to happen after he has imprinted on his natural weapon. Prior to officially joining the 'barbarian' ranks, Janatheil's worst outbursts are simply childish fits of kicking, screaming, and throwing things.

      Thoughts on the Great Engagement:

Janatheil cares next to nothing about history. He lives in the present and is of the opinion that everyone else ought to do the same. The Great Engagement is an old war fought by previous generations - his ancestors, yes - but it wasn't his war, and until someone makes it about him, or about someone he happens to care about, he couldn't care less. He feels zero sense of responsibility or loyalty to 'his people' purely for the fact that they also have the ability to sprout wings on their backs and enjoy sunrises as much as the next person. His loyalty is earned, not given freely until compromised. Whether or not the Great Engagement is at imminent risk of recommencing should tensions between the races reach a tipping point seems to be up for debate, and until someone brings it to the table as an immediate concern for him specifically, he considers the issue irrelevant.

User ImageThoughts on the Magescian Races:

Despite the previous opinion, Janatheil does feel a more natural sense of comfort around orderites than any other race. Though he isn't willing to leap into a war that's of no interest to him as part of some internal moral duty to his race, he does recognize a certain sense of unity with them and tends to consider them to be, fairly obviously, the top of the heap. They are the most innovative, intelligent, organized, and 'civilized' as far as he has come to believe; the civility of his people is not necessarily a trait he shares but he still understands it to be a generally understood plus. He also believes orderites are far and away the most moral and well-intentioned of the races. If a single race needed to 'take control' overall, orderites would clearly be the best choice for everyone.

Dovaa are exotic. What are their horns made of? Are they equivalent to an extension of bones outside of the body, or something else? Can they feel them? And what about their scales, what purpose do they serve, since in most cases they provide virtually zero protection compared to the scales of dragon or khehora or any other beast of the world? What is it about their magic that changes the various pigments in their body and why doesn't it ever affect skin, despite affecting scales? Janatheil is fascinated by dovaa, mostly for their appearance and various odd curiosities about the purpose and function of their bodies and various physical traits. He considers them distinctly more animalistic than his people - being more closely related through genetics to dragons - and in that sense primal, wild, and not entirely intelligent. His opinions of them in general fit within the racist scope of the "noble savage" stereotype, tending to imagine them 'close to the earth' by way of their nature-related magics, and 'innocent' in some senses to the ways of the world given that their god hid them away like sheltered children, but because of this also 'simple' mentally and culturally.

Oblivionites are untrustworthy. Unless he was itching for a fight (which happens frequently enough), he would not attack one on sight. But has the assumption that as a people they are by nature deceptive, cruel, manipulative, violent, and a great many other adjectives which fall under the general category of 'bad.' He has an unspoken goal of sleeping with at least one and getting into a significant fight with at least one before he dies (a mental checklist of various "feats of strength"/adventures he wishes to accomplish). Whether or not the battle results in death to either party is irrelevant so long as the encounter is sufficiently entertaining. Those, though, are the extent of any interaction he'd like to ever have with them. For the most part, he presumes them to be a dark and unpleasant people with which he has no vested interest in.

Hybrids are unpredictable. They're lower class citizens, of course, and on the surface, or by way of instinctive behavior, he does tend to treat them as such, particularly those with more muddled bloodlines. On the other hand, Janatheil recognizes the sheer power potential in hybrids: they have the chance, if lucky, to inherit the best traits of three opposing gods. Even khehora blood could mix in messily if said hybrid's parents were particularly frisky - and far be it from Jana to blame anyone for having such impulses, given that he personally wants to make a point to 'sample' every race himself. All factors combined, he keeps hybrids at a greater distance than most and bases many of his initial, 'prejudiced' opinions based on a mixture of his opinions on the races they show signs of openly.

Thoughts on the Dragons and Khehora:

Dragons are exciting to hunt. Khehora make great bondeds. Otherwise they're just slightly more intelligent wild animals? Shrunken dragons? Regardless: dangerous. And, as such, potentially fun to fight one day. Surely a khehorian would make for a promising challenge.

"Some people are born lucky, others are just born."
| History and Early Life |

Janatheil was born under privileged circumstances: pureblood of a respected bloodline with two loving parents, a brilliant older sister, and a stable home environment. His parents were calm, level-headed professionals, both healers, though they specialized in different areas, and his sister was a gem, seemingly born for politics. Genteel. Poised. And gorgeous. Between the three of them, he was well-loved, carefully watched, and nurtured with ample positive examples to look up to and a thorough education to boot. Everything he could want for as a growing boy.

Despite his genes and circumstances, however, Janatheil seemed cut from an entirely different cloth than the rest of his family, and he often felt it. Pointedly. Where they were relaxed and reserved, he was restless and unruly; where they flourished in the city, at social events, parties and elegant get-togethers, Janatheil felt like a tethered bird facing the prospect of having his wings clipped entirely. A difficult child. Undisciplined and wild. 'Different', though for no perceivable reason.

      He acted out.

Seemingly unable to fit into the molded example set by his parents and sibling - and undesirous of doing so, regardless - Janatheil opted for the opposite approach: abandoning early the idea of trying to fit in and instead brazenly bucking against the system. His parents bore with it, trying their utmost to instill in him a sense of propriety and - if not class and gentility - then at least basic manners. Their successes were hit and miss. He was never disciplined severely for his behavior, nor made intentionally to feel second-best; in spite of his behavioral complications, his immediate family always supported and encouraged him as best they could in the areas he did excel.
