It had been a while since Shaun had made his way to town, and it was about time to develop his film and restock his supplies. But neither was really urgent yet, so he took the scenic route and made his way to the nearby coast, planning to relax there a bit before heading to Katarina.

Salvo trudged down to the shore, his feet crunching on the grasses as they gave way to sand. The Tropius took a few steps more, until he reached a patch of sand that felt thick and soft, then collapsed into it with a sigh. He never minded walking around carrying Shaun, but it was always nice to rest when he could. And the sand here was very warm from soaking in the sun's rays, very comfortable and relaxing.

Shaun slipped off his pokemon's back without complaint. He liked a good nap now and then, he would hardly begrudge his hard-working pokemon from wanting one as well. In contrast, his other pokemon didn't get to stretch their legs (so to speak) nearly as much. May as well give them a chance to relax.

He pulled two pokeballs out of a vest pocket, then walked up to the edge of the surf and tossed one of them into the water. It burst open to release a Gyarados, who fell into the water with a splash. Shaun tossed the other pokeball over his shoulder onto the sand farther from the water. This one released a Marowak, which looked around, bone club clutched tightly.

"Nobody here for you to fight, Scrapper," Shaun told his smallest pokemon. "Just you, me, Fleet and Salvo. I figured now was a good chance for you all to relax a bit."

Scrapper sized up the two larger pokemon, but he always decided against trying to pick a fight with them. They had a very bad elemental advantage, after all. So he just snorted and wandered down the beach, hoping to find a stray wild pokemon to bother.

"Stay close! We'll be here for a little while, but I want to be able to find you when we leave." Scrapper just waved his club in acknowledgement and continued on. Shaun shrugged and turned towards Fleet. "I don't let you out enough, do I? We don't seem to run into many large bodies of water. So enjoy yourself! We'll be here a while to let you swim around as much as you like."

"Gyaaar," Fleet growled at him, about the nicest sound she could make. Then she turned and dove into the water, arching through it to splash around.

Shaun opted to head back to Salvo. He sat down in the sand, leaned against his pokemon, and joined him in soaking in the sun.

Mako but he has white hair, and his clothes are different coloured.
Emile
Flua
Fontanne

Work had been simply, absolutely, terribly, awful! Not only had he burnt at least eight loaves of fresh bread, and singed the edges of numerous pastries, but he also got an earful from a customer who wasn't satisfied with their immaculately made Leppa pie! Mako had used all his restraint-- which wasn't much-- to bite his tongue and keep from snapping and lashing out at the ungrateful twit, resulting in his performance faltering with his distracted mind. His manager let him leave a little early so as to not continue destroying anymore of the precious baked goods. Storming out, the petite trainer grumbled to himself, wasting no time in summoning Emile from his ball. The Emolga glid to curl himself around Mako's neck, and shoulder, looking up at him with a curious expression... but able to notice the steamed mood. And so, as usual with Mako, Emile rubbed against the youths jaw, and cheeks to smother with affections, instantly earning him some petting and strokes in praise. Emile always knew how to calm the hot-headed Mako...

Deciding to skip even going home right away, he headed straight for the entrance of town to leave it. Some time by the beach would help him cool off. Honestly though, he wasn't sure how he'd made it through this current job, so far. It was a miracle... maybe because his boss was such a lenient, and laidback guy. Which... wasn't always a good thing, perhaps. But still. Mako had a job, and was able to pay for he and his Pokemon's necessities.

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out another Poke Ball, pressing the center to enlarge it, and called forth his Absol, Fontanne. The canine shook himself out, and gave a rather smoldering grin to his trainer, cheek smoothing against the boy's leg. Small hand reaching down to stroke along the Dark types head, Mako already felt himself starting to calm down the further away they got from the hustling and bustling loud city.

As he got closer and closer to the coast though, he... noticed something in the water. Something... large. His steps slowed a little, his small booties scuffing slightly from the change of pace, blinking and then squinting behind his glasses as though to make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. Yep. That was definitely a Pokemon. A large Water type, at that! a little tingle of excitement tickled his stomach, making him walk more hurried in order to get a better look, soon enough his little shoes were sinking into sand with his eager steps.
Gazing at the Gyrados, his features seemed to light up, a smile brimming on his face. "Wow..." he murmured in faint awe... oblivious to the presence of another nearby. But Fontanne noticed the stranger, and looked right at him, wearing his usual cocky grin and seemingly unphased by the mans presence.

Emile, on the other hand, started letting sparks start to fly from his cheeks, which alerted Mako right away. Following the rodents line of sight, he stared at the large Tropius, and gentleman resting with it.

Oh............ his mood instantly dimmed, and his usual displeased expression returned.

Shaun only vaguely registered the sound of footsteps on the sand. He was enjoying the warm sun too much, and staring up at the clouds with half-lidded eyes. That cloud looked kind of like a Pidgey, didn't it? Or maybe more of s Spearow...

But the sound of sparking was unusual enough to make him come alert and look over. "Hmm?" he hummed idly when he spotted someone nearby. Then he smiled and gave a little wave. "Hey there. Don't mind us, we're just soaking in the sun." A particularly loud splash from out in the water made Shaun glance out into the ocean. "And waiting for her to get tired of swimming," he added, gesturing towards the Gyarados.

He looked back towards the person, only now noticing the Emolga draped around his shoulders, and the Absol by his side. "Oh hey, you have pokemon," he noted. "Very handsome, they have striking markings." And they didn't have the standard coloration, either. It was fascinating how many pokemon in this region had nonstandard colorations.

Dang... the guy noticed him. But that wasn't too surprising, considering. Still, Mako had somehow hoped he'd get away with minding his own business. With a silent little huff of a sigh, he acknowledged the wave with only a ever so subtle nod of his head. That was more than enough. Glancing back at the majestic Gyrados, he was a bit disappointed to find out this man was its trainer. Any matter... maybe Flua would at least enjoy having another companion join him in the water.

Pulling out the Milotic's Poke Ball, he released the leviathan from its container, who gave a blissful little cry in song, as it spilled into the water. He swam below for awhile, enjoying the water rushing over his sleek form, before popping back up to spy the other lanky creature that was with him in the sea. He gave a friendly little song of greeting to the Gyrados, swimming over to circle around her in a curious and playful manner.

There was enough sand, and sea for the two trainers to share. Though the realization on the strangers part was cause enough for Mako to roll his eyes. "Of course I do." he replied shortly, lightly scratching under Emile's chin to soothe the irritated rodent. "Yeah, they are." he confirmed in a less annoyed tone, though... Fontanne seemed to visibly puff up at the compliments, strolling around in a fashion to show off his shiny, sleek coat, and beautifully coloured face markings.

Fleet was surprised when another large pokemon tumbled into the water nearby. She stopped short and coiled around herself, watching curiously as the other serpentine pokemon circled around her. But after a moment she realized the Milotic seemed to be friendly, and she waved the fin on the end of her tail in greeting.

Shaun grinned when he saw the Absol strutting his stuff. "And it looks like that gorgeous fellow likes showing off." Still reclining, he patted his vest pockets, pulled a digital camera out of one of them, and held it up. "Mind if I take a few photos?" The questions was addressed to both trainer and pokemon, since it seemed rude to photograph a pokemon without their trainer's permission. "I'm a Watcher, and I'm looking to get pictures of the various pokemon found in this region, trained and wild alike."

Flua sang to the Gyrados some more, curling his own tail around to wave his end fin too, before doing a few more playful swirls in place, like a ribbon dancing about with how fluid and graceful he moved. It was so rare for him to come across someone his own size! It was quite exciting.

Emile was displeased that Flua was making a fool of himself, the Emolga pouting more as he pressed against Mako's neck to try and hide himself further. Not to mention Fontanna strutting around like he was! So embarrassing... why did he have to be the only one who had some sense?
Mako watched the other man carefully, narrowing his eyes as the camera was produced. He wanted to take pictures of Fontanne...? Glancing down at his proud Absol, he couldn't say he was too surprised. The canine was gorgeous, and tended to draw as much attention as Emile. Arms tightening over his chest as he crossed them, the petite trainer gave a small huff through his nose with annoyance, "Sure." he finally replied begrudgingly.

Fontanne seemed thrilled by the idea, boldly trotting over to Shaun to inspect the other, sniffing lightly at him, and holding his head high afterwards. He spared a look towards the large Tropius, eyeing those leaf wings... before looking at the dangling fruit on its throat. They looked quite tasty...

Fleet was not nearly as graceful as the Milotic, but she tried to follow the other pokemon's example. She uncurled and tried to swirl about, but came out feeling jerky and awkward, so she paused. Well, she may not be graceful, but as her named implied, she was fast. So she switched to swimming rapid, wide rings around her companion instead.

"Thanks!" Shaun told the young man brightly. He didn't seem too pleased with the idea, and neither did his Emolga, for that matter. Probably shouldn't ask for pictures of the electric, type, then. He sat up as the Absol came over to him, then offered the flat of his hand for the pokemon to sniff. That tended to be good etiquette when meeting canines. He noticed the Dark-type looking Salvo over, especially his fruit. "You want one? They're ripe now, and Salvo never minds," he offered to the pokemon. He glanced up at the other trainer and Emolga and added, "You can have one too, if you want."

Coming out of a somersault, Flua blinked curiously and with surprise as the Gyrados started to race around him with impressive speed, pausing to watch in awe. While he too was fast, he wasn't that fast! He sang a joyful little song of praise, as though applauding Fleet, for her magnificent feat!

Mako was torn between watching Flua playing so adorably in the water, and keeping an eye on this mystery man... but since Fontanne seemed so keen to introducing himself to the stranger, Mako decided it best to stick with him. After a moment of hesitation and pondering, the stubborn boy walked over slowly to join his Absol, eyeing the towering Tropius as well. He hadn't seen one of these in a long time... they weren't the most common of Pokemon he'd seen people have, either. Emile didn't seem all that pleased getting closer to the colossal creature, a few more sparks starting to spit and pop from his cheeks.

"Ehm-uh..." the tiny rodent seemed to groan in distaste, shifting his placement to rest his body against the nape of Mako's neck, hiding under that thick, long ponytail.

Fontanne perked up as the fruit was offered, lighting up and looking to the fruit-bearing Pokemon with excitement. He even gave a small bow of gratitude, as well, quite delighted at the prospected treat. Mako was surprised, himself, crooking a brow slowly, "You eat them...?" he asked slowly, pressing his lips as his nose scrunched a little at the thought... but... he gave another little 'hmph', and gave a subtle nod in response. He was curious to see how it tasted....

Fleet slowed and growled a bit bashfully, not used to such praise. She continued circling, because she wasn't sure what else to do, but at a more moderate pace.

Shaun grinned and snapped a photo of the Absol's bow. Such a fun pose, that was. Then he tucked the camera back in his pocket for the moment.

"Yup!" Shaun assured the other trainer as he reached for the fruit. "They're delicious and nutritious, a popular tropical treat." He plucked off two of the banana-like fruit, to little reaction from Salvo. The Tropius, who was fully reclined and blissfully dozing, barely opened an eye when the fruit was removed, then closed it and resumed his nap.

Shaun pulled half the peel off one fruit, and laid the rest of it peel-down on the sand for the Absol. Then he stood up and offered the other fruit to the other trainer. He didn't get any closer though, out or respect for the clearly displeased Emolga. "You eat them just like a banana, but the flavor's a bit different," he informed the young man.

Mako could hear the two gigantic water dwellers having fun underneath the beautiful blue, due to how vocal Flua was when expressing his excitement. Well... it was good he was having some fun.

Back on the other trainer, his golden eyes watched every move those hands made in reaching for the fruit, nearly convinced the grass type would suddenly take a bite on the intrusive gesture. But... the Tropius was so calm, and chill about it. Even so, Emile wasn't convinced, still eyeing the poor thing as though it were up to no good!

Fontanne waited patiently for his portion to be plucked, lowering his neck slowly to gently sniff at the strange fruit. With some means of approval about it, he let his tongue unfurl from his lips to pull the treat into his mouth and chomp on it contently. His head lifted, tail giving the faintest of twitches in what would resemble a wag, a very pleased expression on his face. Licking his chops, he hummed his thanks, with a 'Solll~' stepping closer to provide a few licks to Shaun's hand that'd gifted him the fruit to begin with.

When Mako was offered his half, there was some hesitance, as he eyed the fruit, Fontanne's reaction, and then Shaun, pressing his lips stubbornly... before finally relenting and slowly accepting it, "Thank.. you.." he murmured in reply. Turning the plucked fruit a few times in his hand, checking all angles, and sniffing it lightly himself, he carefully broke off a tiny piece with his fingers. Holding the small chunk on a finger tip, he slowly drew it down to where the Emolga hid, the rodent recoiling at first, before sniffing fervently at it... then looking to Mako for confirmation. Understanding, Mako did indeed take a bite of the food, eyes closing as though mulling over how he felt about it. "Pretty good." he finally confirmed, to which Emile daintily picked up his piece and chewed it in his little cheek. Perking up, he seemed to relax some, bright eyes sparkling a little with delight.

'Em-uh...' there was softness and wonderment in his tone, a tiny paw reaching towards the rest of Mako's gifted fruit for more, which was obliged by another piece broken off.

"Is there some sort of trick to getting these to grow?" he finally asked after a long time of silence and patience with his Emolga.

Shaun tucked his hands in his pockets, smiling as he watched the trainer and pokemon trying the fruit. The Absol was certainly more eager about it, but it seemed they all enjoyed it in their own way. He chuckled when the Absol licked his hand. "You're welcome," he told the pokemon, then asked "Do you mind being petted?" He half-lifted one hand, glancing between the pokemon and trainer for permission.

To the other youn man's question he answered,"Nope, no trick to it. Folklore says that Tropius as a species started to grow fruit in the first place because they ate so much of it, and it's true that fruit is Salvo's favorite food. But you don't need to feed them anything specific to make the fruit grow. Though as with any plant, they need to be healthy to produce healthy fruit, so they have to get sufficient nutrition, water and sunlight. So any trainer taking proper care of their Tropius will be rewarded with the fruit, which ripens twice a year. Though naturally, a lifestyle with a greater amount of nutrients, sun and water will tend to produce fruit that is larger in size or quantity." He paused, then grinned. "Well, that got a bit wordy. Can you tell I used to hang out with a pokemon professor?"

Fontanne didn't really wait for Mako's consent, and went ahead to bump his smooth head up against Shaun's palm to encourage the petting. Rolling his eyes slightly at the Absol's far too carefree attitude, Mako did give an obliging nod of his head, "He.. loves it, as I'm sure you can see." he stated in a not too enthused manner. Far too many a times the Absol had gotten attention drawn to him, and only increased it by putting on a show, and charms...

Absorbing the information provided with actual interest, Mako's mind was churning with ideas of his own. Emile really seemed to like the fruits, the small rodent perking up considerably as it nibbled fervently at the tiny bites provided for it one by one. The Emolga's little lips were messy with tiny particles, making it lick them quickly, and pause the feasting to do a more thorough grooming with paws included. So this guy hung out with a professor, huh? Made sense with all this information he was babbling on about. Sounded like it was pretty useful having a connection like that.

This gave Mako a moment to look at the grand Tropius, staring at the remaining fruit that hung. So... he'd just taken some of the fruit that only ripened twice a year... Staring, his lips began to press, and his lids drew to halfmast, feeling guilt grip at him. He... just made this other trainer waste the prized fruit on him... without having anything to return. His cheeks began to prickle a little with embarrassment, looking away quite suddenly as he began to mull internally. "If the fruit ripens only on such rare occasions, you should have kept it." he grumped to Shaun, in a sort of chiding way, so as to deflect his own sense of guilt. After a moment, he dug into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, flipping through the few yen he had, to hold out to Shaun suddenly, "Here. This is all I have. I know it's not enough, so I'm sorry." his voice was short and snappy.

Shaun chuckled at the eager Absol and obligingly started petting the pokemon's head. The helmet-like portion of the head was a fascinating contrast to the furry rest of the pokemon. He spared a moment to rub a thumb along the scythe-like horn, then knelt down to scratch the Absol around the neck and chin.

He was so engrossed in observing the pokemon that he was sadly oblivious to its trainer's discomfort. Until said trainer spoke up again, then unexpectedly offered him money. His hand stilled as he blinked at it, bewildered. Then he shook his head and made a shooing motion with his free hand. "There's no need for that, no need to feel sorry. I was the one that offered in the first place, after all! I like sharing, and it's hardly rare to me. I can have the fruit any time, but other people rarely get the chance."

He resumed scratching at the Absol with one hand while he pulled out a camera with his other. With a smile for the trainer he held it up and added, "The only payment I'd want is a chance to photograph your pokemon. I'm hoping to put together a photo book of different pokemon I've seen in the region, and I don't have pictures of an Absol or Emolga yet."

Fontanne melted happily into the attention and affection he was given, eyes closing contently, and staying nice and still for the human to admire his lovely pelt amongst other trademark Absol features. When it came to Fontanne, Mako didn't have any reason to worry about him when it came to interactions with others... besides maybe being a bit overzealous in his want for attention. Thankfully Shaun didn't seem to mind.

When his money was declined, those delicate brows furrowed all the more, lips pressing tightly. It felt... weird, not repaying the kind gesture made towards him. And it was a bit unsettling. Feeling anxious now, he stuffed his money back into his wallet, while fiddling around with it as though to find some other means of payment. Living on a tight budget as is didn't leave much in the area of extra... anything. Thankfully Shaun would quell that nervousness, when the camera was produced again, golden eyes shifting to it.

Right, the guy was a watcher. It only made sense. Slowly putting his wallet away, Mako gave a small nod in acceptance. "That's fine." he confirmed, glancing to the Emolga still keeping itself moderately hidden under his long white tresses, against the nape of his neck, "This one might be a little reluctant, though. Doesn't take kindly to strangers, as you can tell." he muttered, using a single finger to lightly rub the center of the tiny rodents head. But the fruit was helping Emile to feel a little less on edge, sniffing at the remaining portion that was still in Mako's possession.

Shaun nodded, watching the Emolga who was still tucked under his trainer's hair (and continuing to scratch the Absol around the neck, of course). "I can see that. Not the most social of fellows, is he?" he commented. "Is there perhaps something he enjoys and would feel more comfortable doing? Battling, showing off contest performances, spending time with other pokemon, or even sleeping? I'd be happy to photograph him doing anything or nothing, so long as I could get a clear shot. Even at a distance; I have a camera with a strong zoom lens." He tucked away the smaller digital camera he kept in his vest, then rummaged in his bag to pull out a bulkier film camera, with a large adjustable lens on the front.
