xxxxxxFive years ago they were in love. Both in their second year of college in UCLA, it felt like the love of a lifetime as if nothing could break them apart. The two of them were going steady, being together for two years already. When they first met it was love at first sight. An upper-class boy who and a middle-class girl. His major was business marketing and managing while hers was business finance. They were perfect for one another, having the same interests and mindsets. What they didn't see was what happened next. One drunken night, that's all it took. That night they had sex and had forgotten to use a condom. Three weeks later she showed up at his door steps telling him that she was pregnant with his child. What was he to do? He had his life planned out. He was going to finish college, get his degree, then work to take over his father's company. Having a child was not part of his plan and he could not afford any more distractions. Out of fear and without thinking he told her to get rid of the child, when she refused he broke up with her.

She is still working as a waitress in a diner by night and while her little girl was at school, she worked to finish her degree, while still living with her friend. The love that the two once possessed for each other was still there. One day on a business trip to New York, he stopped by a diner for a midnight snack and there they were. The woman he once loved and a little girl doing her homework. When he saw them it was like he fell in love all over again. From that moment he realized how his actions were mistaken and he wanted to gain a relationship with at least his daughter. Nick was someone who had always been there for her, an unrequited love of some sorts. Along with Nick she had two friends named Stacy and Melissa whom she was quite close to as well. When high school was over Allison was going to head to college in UCLA while her three other friends found their lives in the east coast, NIck majoring in marketing, Stacy majoring in Law, and Melissa majoring in Fashion.

When given the choice to abort the baby or break up, she chose to keep the baby. After finishing her sophomore year she returned home, but her family was disgraced with what had happened and they would not accept her back.
With no where to go Nick took her in. Using the money she had left she flew over to New York to live with him. The first few months were difficult for she was not yet over _____ and she found herself deep in depression. It wasn't until after she had given birth to her baby girl, Emma, did she get herself back together. To be able to pay for herself and her child Allison took countless waitressing jobs. Eventually she ended only working at one diner full time. The people at the diner were kind and sweet, letting her bring her child with her during the days where she could not find a babysitter and Nick had classes or work.
When Emma was three and started pre-school, Emma applied to the city college in order to finish her degree. She hoped that if she was able to get a degree she would get a better job to pay for both her and her child. In the beginning NIck and Allison tried being together, but because she was not over _____, the relationship didn't last. Although their relationship didn't work out they were still great friends, and he continued to insist on her living with him and him helping her out.

Although Allison is always smiling and happy inside she is still very hurt from what had happened five years ago. She used to love going out and partying but now she enjoys a nice night by herself to relax.

The first thing she did after showering and brushing her teeth was make breakfast and lunch for herself, Emma, and Nick, she then went on to make lunch for her and Emma. After feeding the entire household she cleaned the dishes and went to drop Emma off. Allison wore black tights and a cute loose pink sweater and a white scarf. Outside it was freezing, another snowy day in New York, she was trying to save up for a winter coat for herself, but often times she finds herself spending that money on Emma instead. Countless times Nick has offered to help but she didn't want that. Her classes ended at 5 and afterwards she went to pick Emma up from her day care. At that moment Nick called her "s**t... Allison I have a meeting tonight and I can't take care of Emma. I'm so sorry!" he said over the phone. "It's okay... I can take her to the diner... it's a friday night anyways" she said. First she went back home and helped Emma take a shower first for Allison had the late night shift and by the time they would get back Emma would be tired and sleepy. Afterwards she changed into her diner outfit, a usual button dinner dress in pink and an apron, she put on an old hoodie and made her way to the diner. When she got to the diner the entire staff greeted her and Emma. Allison had been working there for four years already and the diner was like a second family to her. The chef made Emma a little dinner and Emma sat at one of the booths to do her homework and play games. Her shift started at 7 and by 9 she was tired. This was one of the best diners and town and everyone who truly knows New York loves to go there. Many of the regulars knew Emma and Allison so while Allison worked some of them went to hang out with Emma. It was almost midnight when he walked in. Jim.... The man she used to love, the father of her child. She moved all the way across America to avoid him, but here he was, in the diner where she worked. She wanted to run, to hide from him, but she needed the money. Miranda, the other waitress was on her break so Allison had no other option than to seat him. Slowly she approached him knowing that she was going to regret this. Many thoughts ran through her head as she did so. Does he even remember me? Another busy day ahead for Jim. After his morning Rum, he got up, took a quick shower in his hotel, and got dressed. He stopped by a local coffee shop in that claimed they were the 'Best in New York" as they all did, and wasn't impressed or disappointed. The meeting went as well as expected for talks of us trying to purchase a competitor's facilities for manufacturing. After a few recesses and proposals, they agreed to sleep on it. Jim had to prepare a good argument for tomorrow, but it was food time right now. Perhaps a local diner would have something good, as diners are the places where the masses congregate and perfect their fast order recipes. It wasn't particularly busy at midnight, but there were still a few people here and there sitting at booths. An attractive young woman approached, looking a bit distracted with her own thoughts, to seat him. Jim was understandably exhausted and hungry at this point, and held up his index finger to her, not really wanting to speak more than he had to.

Maybe it was good that he didn't remember her, it avoided so much heartbreak and drama. This way she got closure, she hated this feeling but throughout the years a little part of her held onto the love they once had, though that part was outweighed by the hatred she held towards him. She went over to get him a cup of ice water, since it was part of what she was supposed to do. She then handed him a menu so that he could order something. "Hello sir... here's your menus and water, would you like to get something else to drink?" she said trying her best to cover her feelings toward him, which she did fairly well. At that moment Emma ran up to her holding a piece of paper "Mommy! Mommy! Look what I drew!" she said. Allison smiled at her child, she loved her so much. "Wow it's beautiful sweetie, but mommy has to work right now... why don't you go back and draw nick something." she said sweetly to her daughter. The little girl nodded and went back to her booth. "Cute kiddo." he said with a smile on his face. He saw on the menu that they had no coke products, so he decided on and R/C and whatever the special was. "I'll have an R/C cola, and whatever you have for the-" He paused, noticing her nametag said 'Allison' "the special..."That name, her looks... It couldn't be the Alli he loved so long ago. She was in a different state. His heart raced, and started to calm down. this happened twice before, and he made an a** out of himself both times. No, he wasn't going to be a d**k. Maybe just a bit of conversation, just for the sake of talking to an Allison, and just in case it was her, a hefty tip.

"So an R/C cola and the special." she repeated to him then she went and put his order in. That day's special was a chicken parmesan sandwich. When the food was done there was ding from the kitchen. Allison then went to give him his food. "Here you go... I'll be over there if you need anything. she said to him before heading over to the counter to clean up. Ten minutes later she came back to his table. "We're going to close up soon so here's your check..." she said to him. After that she went to approach Miranda to tell her that she was going to leave early. She took the tips from the earlier table and went over to get Emma. By that time Emma was sound asleep so she decided to pick the girl up and carry her out. Usually Allison would take the bus home, but being with Emma she wanted to take the taxi. She looked at the amount of money she had and realized that she may not be able to afford a cab, since she was saving up to buy Emma's present that was coming up in a week. Luckily the bus stop was right outside the diner so her co-workers, who were like a family to her, could make sure that she got on the bus okay. The bus usually becomes less frequent at that time so Allison put her thin jacket around Emma to keep her warm. He thanked her for his food, and dug in. He wasn't particularly fond of garlic, but figured he'd give this diner's special a shot. He cut a piece of it off, and took a bite. It was pretty damn good. It was made with real chicken breast and the sauce didn't taste cheap. It was canned, yeah, but it had some spices in it that made it delicious. He went for his wallet to bring out his tip, but Jim noticed that she had left. He waived down the other waitress who's nametag said Miranda and asked to cash out. He gave a standard tip, and could see Allison and her daughter at the bus stop from the register. He'd tip her off the books, so she wouldn't be taxed for it. "Wonder why she ran off..." he thought. "Naw, it couldn't be, she's at the other end of the country and couldn't have had enough cash to fly..." "Hey, Allison" he called out as he approached the bus stop. A cool wind came across and he felt a bit of a chill. He noticed Allison had put her jacket on her daughter. In a quick motion, he put the$1,000 tip he was going to give her in the inner pocket of his coat, and took it off "You didn't even stay for a tip?" He chuckled with a smile on his face and handed her his coat. "You look cold, I left your tip in the inner pocket. You can return the coat to me tomorrow, I'll stop by after my meeting for some dinner, or hopefully lunch if all goes well. "Jim pulled his keys to his Audi R6 rental and unlocked the doors "Unless you and the little one wanted a ride." he said, gesturing to the car.

"I don't need your charity or a ride... so you can take your money and coat back." she said coldly as she took a step away from the car and looked the other way. She then took out her wallet to count how much money she had. The bus no longer seemed an option so she decided to take the taxi. I'll just take a couple of more shifts she thought to herself as she looked for a taxi to come.
