Chris was being a stupid b*****d again. After learning that the guy had somehow snuck out of the infirmary early--in spite of Dawson's excellent caregiving skills thank you--he just growled and let it go. He was already worried about his own things, the last thing he needed was his moonbro going around pretending he was fine when he damn well wasn't. But hey, Chel was there, right? Hell she probably endorsed his escape.

Snorting, he swung at the target and ignored the growing ache in his arms. He had been doing too much for too long the past week, and with his general anxiety over both Chris and Horace's individual situations as well as his own meeting with Maebe, as well as his sleepless nights for the past week, he hadn't been doing too hot himself. But work was what he knew helped: it kept him busy and it dulled his thinking beyond the task at hand. He was eating back every pound he ought to be losing anyway, and if Chris clearly thought exercising his way into madness was the way to go, well, nobody ought to blame Dawson for trying it himself. But after a while it felt pointless to try with something that wasn't moving and so, after guzzling a water bottle, he pulled out his phone.

Text to Abbi:
hey u free? lookn for spars, out on field if u want
PostPosted: Tue Feb 10, 2015 7:44 pm

Loud noises that emitted from Room #174 were not frequent, but certainly not an uncommon thing, and today was no different.
A half garbled shriek could be heard in the hallway, and careful observers would have noticed a jingly sort of text tone that rang prior to the scream, but everything was (mostly) quiet after that.

Before the musical tone and the scream Abbi had been dozing on the open face of a medical text, one she had been studying for a while and was rereading in hopes of clarifying a difficult passage. No help came from the thorough investigation and, in want of a nap from a late night shift, the teen let her nose touch the page. This didn't help her learn anything either, only that she had left her phone's volume on and when it went off she reacted as a skittish young woman usually did: With loud, heartfelt screeching.
A moment of clattering and deep breathing brought the phone into view and there wasn't much deliberation before the text was sent off.

Text to Shaggy
Sure thing! OvO/// I'll be there in 10!

In the event that Dawson had been counting it was only eight minutes before Abbi arrived, dressed in shorts, thigh high stockings and a racerback. A peal of greeting reached the man before she did, but she was just as enthusiastic as she hopped to a stop in front of him.
"Howdy partner!" Abbi laughed at her own joke and rocked back on her heels. "How's it goin'?"

He had small sweat rings forming under his pits by the time Abbi arrived and was tempted to dump the last quarter of his water over his head when she called out. He turned with a tired but bright grin and hastily wiped at his brow with his arm. "Heh, howdy, lil' missy," he greeted her with a feigned thicker accent than usual, tipping his cap before reverting to his usual voice. "It, uh....goes, I guess."

He looked obviously ready to talk.

"Y'don't mind if we multitask?" Dawson raised his shield, trying not to wince as his shoulder protested the motion. "Got a few things t'ask you 'bout dating n' stuff if y'don't mind. I, uh....wasn't sure who else t'turn to."

Again she laughed, appreciating that he understood her joke and played it back, going so far as to step into a clumsy curtsey just for further fun.
But the joking manner slipped from Dawson quickly, enough that Abbi picked it up and lost her own smile. She'd always pegged her country friend as someone very open in their expressions but equally chipper in most regards. To see him so clearly worried was not good!

Abbi nodded eagerly at the mention of multitasking, her hands reaching up into the air and pulling down her scythe, but she nearly dropped it a second later. Her expression fell even further, hovering somewhere between sarcastic and incredulous.
"I-D-K probably literally anyone else on the Island?" Sweet Dawson, too pure for this world. Abbi sighed and set the end of the pole-arm against the ground and stuck her arms, and the scythe, out in front of her in gesture of part stretch, part idleness.
"Dunno what you thought about me, but uh... I've never actually dated anyone. Not really. There was one guy, but it never really... It didn't actually..." For a moment she puckers her mouth to collect her thoughts and settles on another shrug.

"I'll do my best, cause I'm not like... Blind or whatever, but if I can't really help... Now you know why." Great way to start the fight, admitting her loserdom to her Moon Kouhai.
She wasn't even deserving of the Moon Sempai title.

This was a week where he was going to get a faceful of scythe, wasn't it. He'd forgotten that was Abbi's weapon as well, though it was larger than Ace's and a tad more intimidating despite who wielded it.

"Oh." Dawson blinked owlishly; he'd honestly figured everyone had gotten with someone at this point, judging from what people on Twitter had been like...well, then again, that was probably his problem right here. "Sawry," he apologized with a sympathetic look. "Won't nudge ya about that then. Guess I'd just like a look inta how a girl's mind works if ya don't mind?"

"S'all good." Said the currently pouting teenager about her lack, and failure, of a love life. And with Valentine's Day coming up she was feeling a little extra sensitive, but at least she had the wherewithal to push herself past the selfish portion of her pout and force it into a lopsided smile. Perhaps it lacked her usual enthusiasm, but chances were he wouldn't notice.

"Well, I guess I can help you there. Yanno, since I am a girl and stuff." She shrugged and twirled the staff, forgetting to fight because talking about romance was very important. At least she could reference all her otome game knowledge! That was super helpful.
"What's got ya all mopey, Shagster?"

He winced reflexively at the movements, but his raised shield wasn't struck this time. He peeked out from behind, looking particularly sheepish. "Oh, that, uh...that's somethin' else..."

Clearing his throat, Dawson pushed himself forward and swung wide. "People makin' me worried s'all," he continued with a frown. "Buddy a'mine, Chris, he got back from a real bad mission n' I was tryin' ta take care've him--y'know like a good moonbro? N' then I come n' find out that asswipe somehow got outta his bed before he was all full well, n' now God knows what he's gonna do. Then my other buddy's got weird love problems've his own I barely know stuff 'bout, n' I'm startin' t'get afraid t'ask."

Surprised by his swing, Abbi tried to sidestep it and found the thick metal stick scraping against her own barrier. Cheese and crackers, he wasn't even trying and could of knocked her down, what would it be like if he actually put some of his girth behind a hit?
Not wanting to really think about it the teen pushed both hands out and clanked the pole against the shield, darting back to put some distance between them.

Or at least, she'd wanted to. Instead she tripped to one side and flailed.
"Chris Axten? The Moon in the Infirm with the janked up face? That Moon Chris?" A hand left her scythe to gesticulate in the general area of the Infirmary. But in a second she'd thought about it too long and lost control of her voice. "WHADDYA MEAN HE SOMEHOW GOT OUT OF HIS BED?! Last I saw him, his friggin' arm was broken!" The wayward hand scrunched up in her bangs because who the heckie was on duty??
"I met him just a few days ago... I mean, like yeah sure we heal quick but... Naw bruh."

Incredulous over that situation Abbi shook her head and tried to focus on the second friend. There weren't any details given so she couldn't really make any rash conclusions. She did know one thing though.
"But neither of them are girls... I totes get why you're worried about them, but you mentioned ladies first."

Her indignant response rekindled and validated his own. "Right? Swear ta God I'ma punch his lights out when I see him," he said with a scowl and a shake of his head. It quickly disappeared when he realized moon princess knew moonbro, however. Maybe he could play a little matchmaking himself...Well, assuming Abbi would still want to go out with the guy after getting at least one shiner.

Dawson ducked his head behind his shield, the scrape of the scythe making an unpleasant screech. His push and subsequent attack was more impulse to make the noise than to try and knock the teen down.

"Sawry. Like I said, just kinda worryin' 'bout...A-Anyway. Uh. I...think I went on a date last week? But m'not really sure 'case it was kinda confusin'." He hesitated, then added in a more hushed tone. "Didn't realize she was askin' fer sex 'til I got there. N' then it kinda, uh...ahah...I wasn't prepped fer any a'that." He was starting to turn pink.

"Well don't punch him too hard." Though she did want to mirror Dawson's irritation, Abbi's expression softened. "Maybe a little punch?" A hand came out to pinch pointer finger and thumb nearly together. "He seemed... Really restless when I saw him. Don't let him off the hook, but... Yanno... Go easy on the guy. He's had it rough." After being confined in the Infirmary a number of times, she couldn't really blame him for the chance to get out regardless of wound severity. Back when she'd hurt her legs she'd gotten out a few days earlier than she really ought to, but she wouldn't have traded those days of freedom for anything.

While Abbi was certain there was no vindictiveness in his push, it still resulted in her loosing her footing and only being able to flail the tiniest of knicks on his shield before she crashed to the floor. A colorful swear that was the PG cousin of its more common call was issued as she hit the ground, quick to sacrifice the cleanliness of her person for a roll and pop back onto her feet.
"You think you went on a date?" Her face scrunched as she hopped into the air, more to regain her balance than for any feat of showmanship.
"Ooooooohhhh. OOOOOOHHHH!!!"

Over a year on Deus, accompanied by a healthy interest in the subject, turned the teen's expression from confused to optimistically curious and the lopsided smile full of honest cheer made its appearance.
"You get laid, Shaggy?"

Dawson looked completely horrified as he knocked Abbi to the ground and immediately backed off. The world spun a little--he should probably attempt a nap after this business, his head was getting a bit light. Her question was pretty effective at deterring an attack as well, judging by the way his face was now transitioning from pink to red.

"Naw," he replied mildly. "N-Not that I wasn't tempted or nuthin', just...nah, s'dumb, nevermind." He coughed and pushed past it. "What m'gettin' at is, uh...well, uh, guess I'd ask yer take on this sorta thing if, uh, if it's not too weird? Like erryone here's all about gettin' sex whenever they can, n' I know ya said ya haven't dated anyone, but like... If ya were, what'd you say 'bout it?"

If it were possible for Abbi to admonish her friend over his worry she would have, given the fact that she was disproportionately in a disadvantage given her much shorter height and general waif-like stature. But she said nothing, much more in favor of chiding him over the subject at hand.
"S'not dumb!" Though never inclined toward any accent other than her light New England pronunciation of things, Abbi did find herself dropping letters, notably 'n's, when she found company with Dawson.
"I mean if she was cute... Why not?" That particular thought stirred something in the girl's mind that she clutched at, unsure how to approach it exactly.

What Dawson asked next was a perfect subject change to the exact thing she was thinking, but a little embarrassed to ask, Abbi charged the man.
With a dramatic twirl she shot to one side and swiped at him with the blade, meaning to hit not only his front but drag the scythe across his side before she unhooked and scurried backwards.
"I really think you're askin' the wrong girl... Cause The Virgin says go for it." Another sigh fell from her and she set her scythe a little off to one side, a sign of attack deferred for the sake of conversation.

"If you're asking me whether you should take up her offer... Whoever she is... I can't answer that. I'm not you. I don't..." A hand waved noncommittally in the air. "I dunno what its like. I dunno if its worth it. You do." A freckled nose scrunched as she tried to piece her thoughts together better. "We're... We're all much more at risk for... Yanno... Bad things to happen to us than most normal people. We fight hard, we should love hard. Even if its only for... A little while, I guess." Maybe that was easy to say for the girl who had no opportunity to act on such a thing. Maybe that was how a naive young woman who had experienced only rejection would react, but it was all Abbi had.
And she had warned Dawson of her lack of knowledge, so it was up to him to make his own sense of what she'd said.

"Oh! Never said, her name's Maebe--"

The rest got eaten up by a fantastic yell as Abbi hook lined and nearly sinkered him completely off his feet. Dawson skidded on the ground and flapped his arms, which only made it worse with the shield in tow. He ended up taking a knee, weapon thumping against the ground as he stopped the rest of himself from tipping over.

"Shi-yet. Got damn, Abbi, ow!" It was both surprised and a cheer for the Moon.

A lot more wary of getting suckered into being the fish on the line again, Dawson hastily found his legs and took a stance behind his shield, trying to ignore the pain.

"Welp. That's what most people're sayin' too, y'know, n' that makes sense. It's just...diff'rent from what m'used to." Dawson sucked his lips in for a second, looking embarrassed as hell before he added in a near mumble, "Doesn't help I, uh...haven't done it yet. Don' tell no-one, mkay?"

Like he wouldn't be projecting that fact on his own in other ways.

"S'just...it doesn't sit right with me, y'know? The whole 'even fer a lil while' bit. It's supposed t'mean somethin', y'know. The whole marriage thing's out the window, sure, but..." He made a soft whining noise that showed he wasn't sure how to articulate himself and hoped Abbi could just read his mind.

Maybe didn't mean anything to Abbi, it wasn't something, or someone, she was familiar with and so passed through her head like air. She instead busied herself with looking sorry, if triumphant, over Dawson's overreaction to her attack. A peal of laughter left her and she danced from side to side, tossing her scythe into the air only to catch it once more as it spun in circles back down.
"C'mon, it didn't hurt that much!" Maybe it had, she was never on the receiving side of her own hits and no one had been honest with her to tell her how badly she hit.

But the fight goes out of her quickly in favor of talk and she shoulders her scythe, practiced with ignoring Viveca, and moves closer.
She could have guessed most everyone on the Island would have agreed with her first approach, noted by how Twitter tended to skew its topics to either being general jerks or boasting about conquests. But she never figured Dawson for the kind that it would matter how others felt.
Granted, she'd never considered him in that particular light, so it was hard to rearrange her view of him to fit what he was saying when he'd never had a shape in the subject at all before now.

After listening to everything he had to say Abbi gave her loudest, most dramatic of sighs, and dropped herself to the ground. Both legs stuck out in front of her so that her lower half loosely formed a triangle, and her scythe clattered down across her thighs.
"I am not the NPC for this convo." She voiced with another long suffering sigh. "I-D-K what you want me to say. I don't... I don't know what'll help. This isn't my area, this isn't... Heck, Dawson, I don't know squat." She was the newbiest of newbs in this regard. She didn't know anything, and a sneaking suspicion indicated she would always be at Point A, just as she was now.
"Maybe it should mean something more. But maybe not everyone feels that way. Maybe... I-D-K... Maybe some people just want something for now." The teen shrugged and let a hand drop to fiddle with the dirt.

A long moment passed before she spoke again, a little more quiet this time.
"I've been... I'm not sure... Thinking of... How do you feel about... Lowered standards?" A+ introduction Abbi.

Dawson's mouth twisted. On the one hand he was guilty for asking things like this when it was clear Abbi was a little torn up about it herself. On the other hand, what she was asking was inconceivable to him.

"Whadaya mean?" he asked, taking this small break to air his shirt out and cool himself off. "Ya got standards fer a reason, right?"
